Abstract

This research aimed were to study the growth and the production of deli tobacco with the additionsome kind of nitrogen fertilizer on 30 days after planted. This research was conducted in the land ofPT. Perkebunan Nusantara II (PTPN II) located in Kebun Klumpang, ±25 meter asl, in September-November 2013. This experiment in factorial based on randomized blok design with two factorsand three replication, consite of nitrogen fertilizer (0, 10 gram/plant Zwavelzure Amonium,15.6 gram/plant Calcium Amonium Nitrat, 5 gram/plant Zwavelzure Amonium + 8 gram/plantCalcium Amonium Nitrat) and double spacing planting distance (100x50x45 cm, 100x50x40 cm,100x50x35 cm). The parameters observed were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves perplant, wet weight of leaf, length of leaf party Z, length of leaf party VA, width of leaf party Z, widthof leaf party VA, thickness of leaf party Z, thickness of leaf party VA. The results showed that thenarrow spacing plant has significant decrease parameters of plant height, stem diameter, the numberof leaf per plant and all production traits. The addition of nitrogen fertilizer significant increase allof the parameters except thickness of leaf party Z and thickness of leaf party VA. Interactionbetween plant spacing and addition of nitrogen fertilizer (100x50x45 cm + 10 gram ZA) showedsignificant effect of the width of leaf party Z on N1J0 (24,46 cm).Keywords: nitrogen fertilizer, deli tobacco, spacing planting distance.

Abstract

This study is intended to find out the types and functions of verbal phrases used in the novel Life of Pi. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research, where the data are not analyzed by using statistical procedure; the data in this research are taken from the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel. To collect the data the writer uses the noting technique. The first step, the writer read and observed carefully to find out the verbal phrases. Then, the writer took notes of the sentences contained verbal phrases in Life of Pi, and then analyzed the data by classifying the verbal phrases and finding the function of verbal phrases. The research finding shows that there are three types of verbal phrases used in the novel Life of Pi, namely, gerund phrase, infinitive phrase, and participial phrase. Each type of verbal phrases has a different function. The researcher finds three functions of verbal phrases, namely noun, adjective, and adverb. Gerund phrase functions as a noun. Infinitive phrase functions as a noun, an adjective, and an adverb. Participial phrase functions as an adjective and as an adverb.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the interaction of speaking activity inside the classroom. The researchers used qualitative research, consisted of 41 students of first year, and were selected to be sample of this research. The observation was taken in three sessions to record the interaction inside the classroom. Then, pattern of classroom interaction analyzed into five characteristics proportion. The lowest interaction characteristic proportion was 22% showed by the teacher control profile. In another result, the lowest interaction characteristic proportion spent 24% of student’s participation. The findings indicated that the interaction of speaking activity inside the classroom was still in teacher’s dominant activity. This study also revealed to realize the importance of the classroom interaction characteristic and to evaluate and develop teachers’ teaching performance. So, the students could make the classroom interaction more effective and the students get experiences in learning new language. The students also will more enjoy taking a part in the teaching-learning of speaking activities to support their environment class the place of teaching-learning process.

Abstract

The presence of sulphur compounds in natural gas can interfere to the quality of natural gas. The decline of combustion gas capacity, metal instrument corrosion in gas piping, and the environmental pollution from gas emission can affect by their presence. Bio-filter is one of the methods  that selected to reduce sulphur content in natural gas. A lab scale study of hydrogen sulphide reduction in natural gas had conducted in oil and gas field using bio-filter method. The bio-filter system (±1 L volume) contains an active carbon and thiosulphide medium as a substrate, Thiobacillus thioparus as a single culture of sulphur bacteria, and Thiobacillus thioparus with sludge as a mixed culture of sulphur bacteria. The study of hydrogen sulphide reduction was conducted with continuous flow line process. The gas flow rate approximately 1.5 L/min with a fluctuate presence of Hydrogen sulphide (approximately 40 - 70 mg/L). The bio-filter system contains active carbon, thiosulphide medium, and single culture of T. thioparus appear as a good filter for hydrogen sulphide reduction. During 24 hours, the hydrogen sulphide reduction obtains 93% to 16%. When  culture media added, the hydrogen sulphide reduction will increase almost 60% and then the reduction decrease to 4% after 20 hours. It is concluded that the bio-filter have potential to develop for sulphur reduction in natural gas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and determine the effect of: (1) economic growth for development inequality between districts / cities in West Sumatra, (2) investment towards development gaps between districts / cities in West Sumatra, (3) labor for development inequality between counties / town in West Sumatra and (4) fund balance to inequality of development between districts / cities in West Sumatra. This type of research is descriptive and associative. While this type of data is data documentary, source of data is secondary data as well as data-shaped panel (combined data time series and cross-section). This research use analysis tool with Ordinary Least Squared (OLS). The study concluded that (1) Economic growth significant and positive impact on the inequality of development of West Sumatra province. (2) Investment inequality affects development of West Sumatra province significantly and positively. (3) Workers not significant impact on the inequality of development of West Sumatra province. (4) The fund balance inequality influence the development of West Sumatra province significantly and positively. Based on these results the policies that can be suggested is to increase government spending on productive expenditure such as construction of a strategic business region in order to increase the amount of capital investment as development. Keyword : development inequality, economic growth, invesment, labor, fund balance

Abstract

Earthquake on July 2, 2013, destroyed several buildings in Aceh Tengah district and Bener Meriah district of Aceh Province. This earthquake gives Aceh government a clue that the seismic hazard map must become the reference in development plan in future. To respond this idea, we conduct the research and try to estimate the amplification factor for developing seismic hazard maps of those districts. This study aims to determine the average shear wave velocity up to the depth of 30 meters (Vs30) and the amplification factor of Aceh Tengah district and Bener Meriah district, to build the seismic hazard map of both districts. In this study, we use the MASW (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves) with 24 geophones in the frequency of 10 Hz at 10 locations to determine the Vs30 beneath the surface. The soil and rock classification from ASCE 2010 and SNI 1726:2012 used to classify the soil/rock based on Vs30 and calculate the predicted amplification factor using the Borcherdt & Eeri equation. The result of this study reveals that the range of Vs30 in the study area is 76 m/s – 308 m/s. The loosest sediment has 76 m/s located at point 2 in Aceh Tengah district. The shear wave velocity of 76 m/s classifies as soft soil (SE). Based on the calculation, the pyroclastic deposit and sediment in the basin of the study area will be amplified the seismic wave in the range of 2.9 to 3.3 times. In the future, we suggest conducting another geophysical survey to determine the correct amplification factor to improve the quality of seismic hazard map.

Abstract

Propolis is one of natural products produced honey bees and has frequently used as a drug or supplements, antiinflammation, therapy disease, accelerated healing cuts and others. In addition, propolis has many benefits one having the nature as an antibacterial. This study aims to establish the nature of bees antibacterial propolis Trigona incisa against bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus. The ektraksi done in a maceration and the antibacterial with the diffusion discs kirby-bauer. The antibacterial activity it uses random design complete (RAL) consisting of 12 treatment and test 3 for every type of bacteria. Variation concentration the treatment is DMSO (control negative), 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100% and kloramfenikol (control positive). Antibacterial test extract propolis bees Trigona incisa against bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus, showed potential as antibacterial. The best to extract propolis construction beehive Trigona incisa in pursuing the growth of bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia is 70 % with broad zone obstruent formed the 11,18 mm (category strong) while bacteria Staphylococcus aureus does not hinder (weak) category. On wrapping bee products Trigona incisa, a weakling now under inhibit bacterial growth Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

This research aims to find out what kind of plants that become the source of nectar for Apis dorsata Fabr. in two different villages, namely Bumi Harapan village and Bukit Raya village, in Sepaku Region, East Borneo, and also to identify the pollen morphology of the nectar found in those plants that contained in honey. Based on the identification results of the nectar found from both villages there are significantly different number in variety of plants between these two samples. In Bumi Harapan, 27 families and 64 species of plants were found as the source of nectar, with 7 dominant families

Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2016 in RSUD dr. Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Balikpapan by using acetolysis method. This aims to determine the pollen morphology and determine the plant species that becomes the pollen source which triggers the ARI also determine the periodic calendar of otolaringology patients in RSUD dr. Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Balikpapan all the time. The pollen analysis results on a sample of ARI mucus patients in RSUD dr. Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Balikpapan, was found there are 4 plant species and 3 families. The plants which expected dominating as the pollen source that triggers ARI are from Cyperaceae family which is Scirpus lacustris, Gramineae family which are Oryza sativa and Saccharum spontaneum also Liliaceae family which is Lilium regale. Based on the pollen morphology (shape, size, ornament and aperture), pollens with monad unit dominate the sample. The pollen shape are various from prolate, oblate spheroidal, subprolate and oblate. Ornament type is psilate. Aperture consists of triporate, pantoporate and inaperture. Therefore, it can be stated that the species of pollen source that triggers ARI has pollen morphology which are simpler and small. Based on ARI patient data in RSUD dr. Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Balikpapan from 2013 to 2015 is known periodically appear at the end of the year to early next year and the ARI interference occurs at the beginning of the dry season (April - May).
