Abstract

AbstrakTujuan penganalisaan ini adalah untuk mengetahui (1) sejauh mananovel tinkers karangan Paul Harding memperlihatkan bentukbentukdefisiensi emosional yang dialami oleh karakter, (2) sejauhmana tokoh, konflik, dan latar mendukung penafsiran tersebut,dengan menggunakan perspektif depersonalization dari Stein danSimeon. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa tokoh utama dalamnovel tersebut mengalami defisiensi emosional yang dapat dilihatdari ketidak mampuannya mengenali emosi. Hal tersebut dapatdilihat dari kesulitan tokoh dalam mengenali dirinya, ceritanya, danorang tuanya. Selanjutnya, tokoh mengalami kesulitan dalammengidentifikasi memori emosional dengan tidak bisa mengontrolingatannya dan tidak bisa membedakan antara kenyataan denganimajinasi.Kata Kunci: defisiensi, depersonalization, emotional deficit,emotional memory

Abstract

AbstrakSkripsi ini merupakan analisa naskah film Fredom Writers (2007) yangditulis oleh Richard LaGravenese. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalamnaskah film ini adalah bagaimana karakter utama, Erin Gruwell yangmemiliki usaha- usaha sebagai seorang guru dalam meningkatkankualitas pendidikan dan sejauh mana karakter, plot (konflik) dan settingmengungkapkan usaha- usaha yang dilakukan oleh karakter utama.Metode yang dilakukan untuk menganalisa naskah film ini adalah textbased approach. Tujuan penganalisaan ini ialah untuk mengetahui sejauhmana naskah film Freedom Writers memperlihatkan usaha untukmeningkatkan kualitas pendidikan. Penganalisaan ini difokuskan padakarakter, plot dan setting yang didasarkan pada teory moral developmentoleh Kholberg. Hasil penganalisaan memperlihatkan bahwa untukmeningkatkan kualitas pendidikan dibutuhkan usaha yang keras danpengorbanan. Hal ini diperlihatkan oleh karakter. Karakter tersebutmelakukan usahanya lewat merubah kebijaksanaan yang ada di sekolahdengan yang lebih baik dan merubah pola hidup siswa- siswanya.Kata kunci: usaha, meningkatkan, kualitas, pendidikan

Abstract

In this paper the writer discusses some of the activities of information sharing (gap information) in learning English at hotel and tourism vocational high school. This paper describes the activity of sharing information in study speaking in the class. This activity is best used as a technique to learn speaking so that, when students learn speaking they feel comfortable, easy to understand and not boring. So that this information sharing activity (gap information) can help students to improve their speaking skills

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the quality of multimedia (PowerPoint and video) used by English teachers at SMAN 01 Kamang Magek and also to find out the problems which faced by the English teachers in constructing multimedia in learning and teaching process. This research was an evaluating research. The subject of this research was all of the English teachers and the document files (softcopy of PowerPoint and video which was used by the teachers). The data was collected through the evaluation checklist which was used in order to know the quality of multimedia (PowerPoint and video) used by the English teachers and the interview and observation was aimed to know the the problems which faced by the English teachers in constructing PowerPoint and video in learning and teaching process. In the evaluation checklist, there were two categories in evaluating the quality of PowerPoint and video; they were the quality in its content and the presentation. Based on the finding of the research, it was found that teh PowerPoint had very good quality in its content and the presentation had good quality. Besides that, the video had very good quality in its content and its presentation. In addition, it was found that the English teachers had lack ability in constructing the PowerPoint and video and also in using the technological devices of multimedia.

Abstract

This paper explains about the use of reward and punishment to increase young learners’ motivation in learning English as foreign language in Indonesia. The writer discusses about procedure and advantages of reward and punishment. Reward is an appreciation given by the teacher to the students who can follow the lesson well and finishing the assignment. Meanwhile, punishment is a bad treatment that is given to the students who do not focus in learning process, do not care of their assignment, and have bad habit during the class. Reward and punishment can be given through verbal and non- verbal form (action). Kinds of reward are mimic, gesture, compliment or positive feedback, point or sticker, and present. Kinds of punishment are warning, memorizing vocabulary, decreasing students’ point, and moving students’ seat. Besides to motivate student, reward and punishment also make the students become more discipline and study harder than before.

Abstract

The increasing of global communication makes the demand to mastering English also increase, including Indonesia. In learning English, understanding vocabulary is considered as an essential thing because without vocabulary, people will not be able to express their ideas and comprehend what other people say, in other words, they are not able to communicate each other. In order to mastering English vocabulary, students from elementary grade are introduced to English vocabulary by using many kinds of interactive media that can help this purpose. One of the media to help students’ vocabulary mastery is called Interactive Word Walls which is used in elementary school. Interactive Word Walls is a vocabulary learning media where the words that have been learned are displayed on the wall. This paper will discuss the procedure in creating this media, the application method, and the use of it.

Abstract

Learning in Primary Schools should be interesting and fun. It is intended that the students have the motivation when learning, so that students are not easily saturated in learning, especially learning reading comprehension. One way to make learning more fun and not monotonous is by using a media. Media can help the  teachers in presenting the material, so that students more easily to understand that material. The great media that can be used the teacher in teaching reading comprehension is by using Big Book. Big Book shaped a great book, it contains a brief story with great writing and the colourful of pictures. This book can be used for elementary school children grades 4, 5 and 6. The author hopes of using this Big Book by the teachers to be more creative in the use of media and improving the quality of student learning, especially the ability to understand the text or story.

Abstract

Analytical exposition text is one of genre text that is learned by english department students of Universitas Negeri Padang. The students must be able to write this genre text. The aim of this study is to analyze the ability of students in writing an analytical exposition text.  It was a descriptive quantitative research conducted for third semester English departments students of Universitas Negeri Padang. This research focused on how is the students’ ability in writing the thesis statement, argumentation, organization and writing, and the use of evidence of analytical exposition text. The population of this research is third semester English department of Unicersitas Negeri Padang, and the sample was from educational class, it was K-3 class which consists of 20 students. the students were asked to write analytical exposition text and then students’ writing were analyzed by using the rubric of analytical exposition text which consists of four aspect, that are thesis statement, argumentation, organization and writing, and the use of evidence. Based on the findings, there are four students who are in excellent level, five students in proficient level, ten students in fair level, and one student in inadequate level. Overall, the ability of third semester English department students of Universitas Negeri Padang is in proficient level.

Abstract

Skripsi ini merupakan analisa novel The Convert (2011) karya Deborah Baker. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam analisa ini adalah sejauh mana novel ini merefleksikan usaha dalam mencapai tujuan menjadi seorang muslim. Tujuan analisa ini adalah (1) mengungkapkan sejauh mana tokoh utama dalam novel merefleksikan Exertion, (2) menunjukkan kontribusi elemen fiksi dalam mengungkap permasalahan Exertion. Analisa ini menerapkan text-based interpretation yang mempertimbangkan elemen-elemen fiksi dan unsur-unsur di dalam teks secara spesifik sehingga memberikan kontribusi dalam pengungkapan makna dan context-based interpretation dengan mengaitkan konsep Personality yang dikemukakan oleh Victor Frankl. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama berhasil melakukan usaha untuk bisa menjadi seorang muslim dan melakukan perubahan dari kehidupan lama dan memasuki kehidupan baru dan menyesuaikan diri dengan kehidupan barunya yang di pengaruhi oleh lingkungan sekitar dengan cara pindah keyakinan, mengubah pola pikir, menyesuaikan diri di kehidupan baru. Keinginan, niat, dan tekat yang kuat dari tokoh untuk berubah ke arah yang lebih baik sangat berperan penting dalam proses usaha menjadi seorang Muslim.

Abstract

In this modern area, many children prefer to play rather than learning, especially in English language which is not understood by the children. Because of that, the teacher should develop how to teach English to the young learners without making the child bored in learning. Therefore, to make the children wants to learn English the teacher can teach them by playing because the children love to play. In writing this paper, the author will discuss about the using of Fun-brain to increase the intelligence of a childs brain to know English. Fun - Brain is games that can be done online by teaching English to the young learners and to get know the English language through play. By playing, the young learners can study harder and memorizing vocabulary that they find in Fun – Brain game. Teachers can teach English to play and to make the children happy in learning English, so that the children can use the English that they learned in their daily life. This paper is expected to provide new insights for teachers or education to improve learning and teaching English for young learners which is usually at an early age, the childs brain formation will begin to form and will continue to grow along with the childs age. With the strategy of Fun - Brain can be used to form the brains of young learners up is not too difficult to recognize a foreign language to him. Also expected to increase the motivation of the young learners to learn by playing.
