Abstract

Shallot bulb generally stored for several month before planted in the field. Since explant age is one of important factors in tissue culture development, storage period of shallot bulb might alter the explant growth in vitro. Shoots of shallot formed in the in vitro culture should form bulbs before can be use as seedling, and temperature may affect micro bulb induction. Two experiments had been conducted to evaluate 1) the effect of storage period in the field on the growth of shallot explant in vitro and 2) the effect of culture room temperature in microbulbs induction of shallot. In the first experiment, shallot bulb had been stored for 1, 2, 3 and 4 months before used as explants. Storage period significantly influenced the explant growth in vitro. Bulb with 2 months storage gave the best performance on number of micro shoot, number of leaves and roots, and less of vitrification. Micro shoots on three weeks after planting (WAP) was feasible to use as propagule for shallot micro bulb induction. In the second experiment, shoots from propagation medium was transplanted to bulb induction medium and  grown in growth chamber with different temperatures (day/night) 20/17 oC and 30/27 oC, respectively.  Micro bulb induction was influenced by temperature. Lower temperature showed good results for number of leaves, length of leaves, number of roots, and length of roots. However, temperature of 30/27 oC gave the best result on number of micro bulb, diameter of bulb and bulb width:bulb disk diameter ratio.   Keywords: Allium, explants age, micro bulb,  temperature, 2ip

Abstract

Yard long bean (Vigna unguilata L.) 777 was grown in Ultisols, which typically have low pH and high P-fixation, to determine the best correlation of soil extraction methods for soil P with yields, and to develop soil P response categories.  The research was conducted at SANREM base camp in Hambaro Village, Nanggung, Bogor, Indonesia from April-August 2008. Treatments were arranged in a Split Plot Design with three replications. The main plots were treatments with soil P status of 0X, ¼X, ½X, ¾X and X, where is X = 1,590.5 kg SP-36 ha-1 (36% P2O5) applied once  a month before planting.  The subplots were P application rate of   0, 75, 150, 225 and 300 kg P2O5 ha-1. Yard long beans were planted in double rows per bed, 60 cm between rows and 25 cm within rows, 2 seeds per hole, with plot size of  1.5 m x 5 m. Coefficient correlation (r) of  extraction reagents Olsen, Bray-1, HCl 25%, and Mechlich-1 were 0.772, 0.765, 0.755, and 0.732, respectively.  Based on Olsen soil testing methods, soil response categories of very low, low, medium, and high were (ppm P2O5) ≤ 18.40, 18.40 < P < 117.27, 117.27 < P < 267.04, and ≥ 267.04 extracted-P, respectively. Abstract

Chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)  was grown with polyethylene mulched on Inceptisol soil with low pH (5.5), low organic-C  (1.54%),  very  low total N (0.12%), low K content (0.29 me (100 g)-1), but very high soil P2O5 concentration (19.2 ppm) to evaluate the best crop management practices with starter solution.  Seven starter solution combinations (1 = No Starter Solution + No CM + No SI, 2 = CM + SSVC,  3 = CM + SSG, 4 = SI + SSVC, 5 = SI + SSG,  6 = SI + CM+ SSVC,  and 7 = SI + CM + SSG) were arranged in a randomized completely block design with four replications. Whereas CM = cow manure, SSVC = organic starter solution, SSG = inorganic starter solution, and SI=standard inorganic fertilizer. The results showed that inorganic, as well as organic, starter solution increased chili pepper growth and yield in less fertile soil. The highest marketable yield was obtained with application of standard inorganic (SI) + cow manure (CM) + inorganic starter solution (SSG).  Inorganic starter solution application resulted in a better plant growth than organic starter solution, being evident at 1 week until 7 weeks after transplanting. However,  inorganic starter solution did not significantly increase total marketable yields. Application of cow manure, standard inorganic fertilizer, or addition of organic starter solution reduced total unmarketable yield, improved fruit qualities and increased marketable yield.   Keywords: cow manure,  crop management,  fertilization, liquid fertilizer, vermi-composting

Abstract

Potassium (K) is required in a large amount for plant growth and production of most fruit crops, including pineapple. However, excess application may decrease its growth and production. Therefore, fertilizer application must be site specific, based on soil nutrient status and plant requirements. The aims of the research were (1) to determine the soil K nutritional status of pineapple and (2) to determine the optimum dosage of  K fertilization for pineapple grown in Sawah Baru, Darmaga, Bogor.  The research was conducted using split plot randomized block design with five soil K status as main plots i.e. 0, 70, 140, 210, and 280 kg K2O ha-1 representing status levels of very low, low, moderate, high, and very high, respectively. The sub plot was dosage of  K fertilizer i.e. 0, 200, 400, 600, and 800 kg K2O ha-1. The result of the research showed   that plant growth and production of pineapple were improved by soil K nutrient status and dosage of K application.  The  level  of  soil K  nutrient  availability  was  classified  into  low  (50 ppm K2O). Potassium fertilizer is recommended for the soil with low  soil K status of 634 kg K2O ha-1.    Keywords: Ananas comosus, fertilization, potassium, soil nutrient status

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan mulai Oktober 2014 hingga Februari 2015 di Green House Kebun Percobaan IPB Cikabayan, Dramaga, Bogor. Penelitian ini bertujuan memperoleh ukuran umbi asal TSS dan jarak tanam yang optimal dalam memproduksi umbi benih bawang merah. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dua faktor. Faktor pertama yaitu ukuran umbi yang terdiri dari umbi berukuran sedang (diameter= 1.5-1.8 atau berbobot 5-10 g) dan besar (diameter= &gt;1.8 cm atau berbobot &gt;10 g). Faktor kedua yaitu jarak tanam yang terdiri dari jarak tanam 20x20 cm dan 30x30 cm. Umbi yang digunakan dalam percobaan ini merupakan umbi hasil penanaman dari biji TSS yang telah disimpan selama dua bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan umbi berukuran sedang dan besar tidak memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap produksi bawang merah. Sedangkan jarak tanam memberikan hasil yang berbeda nyata. Penggunaan umbi berukuran sedang pada jarak tanam yang lebih rapat dapat meminimalkan biaya produksi dari segi penyediaan umbi benih..Kata kunci: Bawang merah, jarak tanam, ukuran umbi, umbi benih asal TSS

Abstract

ABSTRACTFertilizer application in elephant foot yams (Amorphophallus paeoniifolius (Dennst.) Nicolson) intercropping system is rare in Indonesia, therefore, NPK fertilizers experiment was conducted under the shade of 10-year-old coffee plantation at Leuwikopo Experimental Farm, Bogor, Indonesia, in order to increase the productivity of elephant foot yam intercropped with coffee trees. Prior to planting, 20 ton ha-1 of goat manure was applied. Four NPK combinations, i.e., N, P2O5, K2O at the rate of 0, 0 and 0; 100, 60 and 80; 125, 60 and 100; and 150, 60 and 120 kg ha-1, were applied. Results showed that there were no significant differences in leaf number per plant, petiole size and rachis length among treatments. Application of NPK decreased photosynthetic rates, while increasing rate of N and K2O had no effect on photosynthetic rates. NPK application at the 100 N, 60 P2O5 and 80 K2O kg ha-1 (N100P60K80 treatment) or larger prolonged growth duration regardless of NPK levels, and there was a close relationship between corm yield and growth duration. As a result, corm fresh mass was higher in the 100:60:80 kg ha-1 treatment than in control. In the N125P60K100 and N150P60K120 kg ha-1 treatments, leaves were damaged by heavy rains and winds, counteracting beneficial effect of NPK on growth duration and corm yield. These results suggested the importance of delay of entering dormancy for an increase in productivity of A. paeoniifolius.Keywords: NPK fertilizers, photosynthesis, productivity, prolong growth, tuber crop

Abstract

ABSTRACTKenikir (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) is an Indonesian indigenous vegetable which is potential to be developed. Exploration conducted in Bogor, Sukabumi, Bandung, Bandung Barat, Subang, Garut, Majalengka, Kuningan, and Tasikmalaya had succesfully collected 20 accessions of Cosmos sp. The objectives of this study were? to observe similarity and estimate the yield of Cosmos accessions from West Java. Clusters analysis grouped 20 Cosmos accessions into three clusters. Cluster I consisted of Pendeuy, Saribakti, Karang agung, Sindangbarang, Langensari, Perbawati, Sudajaya girang, Karang tengah, Argalingga, Warnasari, Sukaresmi, Ciwidey, Jalan cagak, Lebaksiuh, Tugu selatan, Ciwarak, Linggarjati and Babakan accessions. Cluster II and III consisted only one accession each which were Ciaruteun and Dramaga, respectively. Seven accessions from different sub cluster were evaluated to estimate the yield. A significant variability was found among the accessions. Results showed that those accessions were significantly different on plant height, stem girth, numbers of primary branches, number of leaf, leaves width, leaves length, days to flowering and yield. The results showed that Dramaga and Ciaruteun acessions were recomended to be developed because of its high yield. Keywords: characterization, cluster analysis, exploration
