Depression may be an emotional disorder often related to cerebrovascular disease. About 25-50% stroke patient will suffer depression after stroke attack. Many studies said that post-stroke depression will raise the percentage of mortality in cerebrovascular patient. Even in younger patients who do not have any previous chronic disease, the mortality is still high in poststroke depression patient. Studies revealed that the location of ischemic or hemorrhagic of the brain has an important role in the prevalence of post-stroke depression. Right hemisphere hemorrhagic is considered a significant location in the prevalence of post-stroke depression. Poststroke depression can also occur as a result of the disability of daily activities. Conditions that make patients psychologically and physically impaired could lead to the feeling of incompetence and depressed. The treatment of post-stoke depression is a combination of psychopharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.Keywords: Post-stroke depression, psychotherapy, SSRI
