Abstract

The research objectives were to analyzed the family food security and its factors of the participants in the community empowerment program at rural area. The research design was crossectional study and the data collection technique used a survey method toward 300 families, and their specification were 140 families from the National Program of Community Empowerment (PNPM), 107 families from The Keluarga Harapan Program (PKH), 31 families from the Raksa Desa Program and 22 families from The Business Development Program of Rural Agribusiness (PUAP). The highest percentage (52.0%) of the family categorized into food vulnerable and as many as 37.3 percent was insecure category. It was found 10.7 percent families categorized into secure category. Base on the program, more than a half families of PKH group (50.5%) and PUAP (63.6%) are insecure category. Food vulnerable category is in PNPM group (60.0%) and Raksa Desa group (61.3%). The highest percentage (15.0%) thar categorized into secure category is in PNPM group. The factors which influence significantly toward the family food security are the income per capita, the family size and the asset.Key words: food security, community empowerment program, rural area

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to analyze performance of integrated health service (Posyandu) and nutritional status of children under five. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Padang pariaman, West Sumatera. Thirty Posyandu and 934 children were sampled. The Posyandu’s performance sata were: carde characteristics, knowledge, and participation. The nutritional status of children was measured using anthropometry. Activities of Posyandu Purnama and Mandiri were better compared to Posyandu Pratama and Madya. Nutritional knowledge of cadre was relatively similar among Posyandus, and so was the participation. The nutritional status of children at the three categories Posyandu was not diffrence (p>0,05). Cadre needs improvement of nutrition knowledge and shills.Keywords: children, nutritional status, Posyandu.

Abstract

The regional government policies on vegetables agribusiness development is carried out through agropolitan area development program. The aims of this study are : (1) To get informations on perception of vegetables farmer’s towards the regional government policies in the efforts of vegetables agribusiness development, (2) To get informations on the vegetables farmer’s efforts to increase vegetables agribusiness through agropolitan area development program, and (3) To analyze the correlation of farmer’s perception towards the regional government policies in the efforts of vegetables agribusiness development with the farmer’s efforts to increase vegetables agribusiness. The method of this study is using descriptive correlation. Some important results of this study are : (1) The vegetables farmer’s perception towards the regional government policies in the efforts of vegetables agribusiness development is high, (2) Vegetables farmer’s effort to increase vegetables agribusiness is high, and (3) There is significant correlation between vegetables farmer’s perception and the efforts of the vegetables farmer’s to increase vegetables agribusiness, such as : partnership with the entrepreneurs, on-farm management, and marketing management. The supporting sub-system merit such as : the micro financial institutions, agricultural education and training, agricultural extention, faciliting of regional governments to provide market places at main market in Jakarta should be increased.

Abstract

Although the agriculture activities has been introduced for relatively a long time, the subsistent agriculture of the Arfak Tribal Group has still dominated in their agriculture system. In their agriculture activities, the new innovations has been adopted for a short time. The new innovations to be seen as a disturbance to their conservative norms. But this theory disagreed by Boef et al. (1993:206) as noted that the conservative system is not the cause but the top down agriculture program which contradicted with the local norms. This research are aimed to:(1) Identify the factors influencing the adoption process by the Arfak tribal group.(2)Identify the perceptions of the Arfak people about the agriculture innovations and extension education which they received from the government.(3) Identify the social culture values (norms, traditional system, custom) both the supporting and the obstructing the farm of Arfak people. The research used survey method and participation observation. Data are analized by proportion analysis and Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results of the research showed that:(1) The social capital which supported the innovations adoption process by the Arfak tribe are emphaty ability, cosmopolitant behaviour, creative and innovative ability.(2) There are significant correlation between the Arfak people with their learning needs, social culture, and responsive behavior of extension education launched by the government officials

Abstract

The study was carried out in Bogor in June through September 2005. The objectives of the study were : (1) to identify the external and internal factors of street food peddler, (2) to identify entrepreneurship behavior of the street food peddler, and (3) to analyze the correlation between the internal and the external factors and entrepreneurship behavior of the street food peddler. The study was a descriptive correlational method. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation. The results of the study showed that: (1) The internal and the external factors were significantly correlated with the street food peddler entrepreneurship behavior, (2) The street food peddler entrepreneurship behavior were categorized high and medium.

Abstract

Department of Social affairs implemented several empowerment programs to eradicate poverty. KUBE was one of these poverty eradication programs. KUBE was infended to over-come the group weaknesses through mutual and cooperative efforts. In this relation there were some factors affecting the KUBE dynamic i.e., member characteristics, empowerment patterns, and the KUBE social environment. To optimize the KUBE empowerment, the KUBE productive business activities were classified into three categories, namely daily income, monthly income and annual income earning activities.

Abstract

Farmers living in the near by forest villages fullfilled their living needs mainly through exploiting the forest resources. Controlled forest exploitation created serious forest degradation. The annual forest degradation rate was 2 to 6 million hectares. In this relation the objectives of this study were to asses the relationship of farmer’s characteristics and their competencies in forest conservation. The population of this study was four hundreds farmers living in 12 village near the national forest park. Data was collected from may to october 2005. Data obtained were analized by Kendall W Concordance procedure and SEM. The result pointed out that farmers lacked competencies in both farm and forest conservation.

Abstract

Dalam majalah FORBES ASIA yang terbit tanggal 28 Nopember 2005 terdapat satu halaman artikel menarik yang patut dicermati dan ditulis oleh Ferguson, salah seorang wartawan majalah itu. Ferguson mengangkat beberapa hal penting berasal dari wawancara eksklusif dengan Bapak Presiden Yudhoyono pada tanggal 8 Nopember 2005. Salah satu hal penting yang dikemukakan adalah bahwa dewasa ini terdapat sekitar 20% atau angka tepatnya 42 juta orang yang terlibat di dalam usaha kecil dan menengah (baca: ‘small enterprises) yang berperan sebagai ‘sabuk pengaman’ (safety belt) ekonomi nasional, yakni tatkala beberapa perusahaan besar nyaris atau bangkrut pada akhir tahun 1990, yang dampaknya menam-bah semakin bengkaknya angka pengangguran sebagai akibat pemutusan hubungan kerja.

Abstract

Shifting cultivations (SC) who rely on their livelihood of forest resources are empowerless mainly caused by the low quality of human resources an the pressures of the forest resources utilization which covering the cultivation areas by companies. The study was aimed to formulate a model of the empowerment of SC through extension program. The respondents involved we composed of 36 extension agents and 288 shifting cultivators. Data analysis used the descriptive analysis technique such as Chi Square, Rank Spearman, and Path Analysis. The Study results showed ah: (1) factors related o empowering SC through extension that consisted of 13 variables were low; (2) applications of forestry extension in Kutai Katanegara District, East Kutai District, and West Kutai District were not able to empower the SC to realize sustainable forest; (3) the activities needed by SC are he activities, aimed to solved the SC problem, such as (a) he qualified extension about the permanent cultivation, (b) the availability of infrastructure, (c) the insurance for shifting cultivation activities, (d) the availability of specific local technology, (e) production apparatus, (f) production increase, (g) income increase, (h) market, (i) cooperation, (j) capital credit, (k) business development, (l) new business alternative; and (4) the effectively extension model hat might be able to empower the SC is the extension that became their own program and applies (a) a digging finding, and developing science and technology model, (b) interactive/convergent communication, (c) extension substances based on SC need, (d) adult learning process, and (e) community based forest management.

Abstract

The street children has become an important phenomenon in urban areas. Most of the children spent their time on the street or in other public areas. Government throught Social Welfare Departement developed an transit house program which providing social guidance fo ther street children, but the budget can not cover all of the children. Many of the children are still on the street that cause them to be out of control and easily trapped in juvenile delinquency. The study tried to understand perception of the children on the social guidance of the transit house program, since there are not enough information about the issue. The study used quantitative and qualitative data and analized in non parametric statistic. Bandung was selected as location of the study since the city is one of cities in Indonesia that has street children problems. Population of the study are street children of 6-18 years old. Stratifield random sampling technique was used to get 60 respondents. The data was collected through interview schedule, field observation and desk study. The research fond that the perception of the respondents toward social guidance program is negative in terms of physical, mentality, social and skill. But, the respondent that involved in the program less or equal to 6 months is better than whose that involved 7-12 months and more than 13 months, especially in terms of mental and skill guidance. Based on the finding, a reorientation of the program is needed throught in form of guidance and councelling package that short in time (less than 6 months), relevance with interest and talent of the children, emphasize on developing the children skill, but still concern with physical, mental and social development.
