Abstract

Effect of phospholipids on survival and molting synchronicity of mud crab larvae Scylla serrata were examined using Artemia enriched with five treatments of emulsion oil i.e. treatment with different level of soybean lecithin (SL) together with a level of DHA70G (referred to as DHA-SL0, 20 and 40) and treatment with SL and cuttle fish phospholipids (CPL) at 40 uL/L without DHA70G (referred to as WDHA-SL and WDHA-CPL). Survival rate, intermolt period, carapace width, and molting synchronicity were evaluated. Additionally, lipid classes and fatty acid composition of enriched Artemia were analyzed. Survival rate, intermolt period, and carapace width at the first crab (FC) stage of mud crab larvae fed DHA-SL0 to 40 were similar to that of WDHA-CPL but higher than that of WDHA-SL (P < 0.05). Moreover, mud crab larvae fed DHA-SL20, DHA-SL40, and WDHA-CPL had a significantly higher molting synchronicity index compared to that of larvae fed WDHA-SL and DHA-SL0. It can be concluded that combination of phospholipids and essential fatty acids exhibited an additive effect in improving molting synchronicity of mud crab larvae.

Abstract

The effect of cholesterol on the survival and development of larval mud crab Scylla serrata were examined by feeding larvae with Artemia enriched with different level of cholesterol. Artemia enriched with four stated levels of cholesterol i.e., 0, 5, 10, and 20 ul/l (Chol 0, 5, 10, and 20). All treatments were mixed with DHA70G at 25 ul/l.  All the oil was adjusted to 100 ul/l by adding the oleic acid. Survival rate, intermolt period, and carapace width at the fisrt crab stage of mud crab larvae fed Chol 0, 5, and 10 were higher compared to that of Chol 20 (P < 0.05). We suggest that free sterol contained in Artemia at 1.37% was harmful to the growth performance of mud crab larvae. This study suggests that mud crab larvae required at least 0.61% cholesterol for maintaining good survival and development and therefore no need to enrich Artemia by cholesterol for the practical purpose.

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the quality of rotifer enriched with four  kinds of enrichement materials from the stand point of essensial fatty acids. Rotifer was enriched at 24 - 25oC for 18 hours at a density of 1000 ind/ml.  Rotifers were treated by four kinds of enrichment materials such as oleic acid (R-OA), two different density of Nannochloropsis oculata, (4x107 and 16x107 cell/ml; R-N18 and R-N42) two different levels of eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA) triglyceride type (EPA-TAG) (20 and 40 ml/ml; R-E20, R-E40) and two different level of EPA ethyl ester (EPA-EE) (R-EE25 and R-EE50%) respectively. Rotifers enriched with Nannochloropsis oculata and EPA-EE type have a similar profile of essensial fatty acid especially on n3-HUFA that dominated by EPA, while DHA was in a trace amount or not detected.  In addition Nannochloropsis oculata as an enrichment material showed the highest population density of rotifers during enrichment periods.  Rotifer enriched with EPA-TAG has a more complete of essential fatty acid profile compared to other enrichment materials due to their contained both of EPA and DHA. We conclude that rotifer enriched with EPA-TAG as enrichment material showed the best nutritional quality of rotifers from the stand point of essential fatty acid. Abstract

The aim of this research was evaluating the quality and digestibility of fermented local feedstuff as well as its effect on growth performance of common carp Cyprinus carpio juvenile. The local feedstuffs tested in this experiment were kapok seed, cassava peel, copra, rubber seed, and palm kernel meal. The previously milled feedstuff was fermented with instant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a dose of 0.9% w/w and incubated for 24 hours. Following this, the fermented feedstuffs were dried, mixed with reference diet with a ratio of 3:7 and supplemented with 0.5% Cr2O3 as digestibility test indicator. Common carp juveniles with an initial average body weight of 14,11±1,28 g were cultured for 30 days. Fish feces were collected since the 6th day of culture, and followed by laboratory analyses. The results show that fermentation could increase the crude protein content of feedstuff with a range of 16.85‒31.11%, and decrease crude fiber with a range of 2.45‒31.65% with the exception of copra. Furthermore, fermentation also increased the feed digestibility including protein, energy, and total digestibility by the tested fish, as it is shown that the use of fermented feedstuffs may increase protein digestibility 3.88‒11.73%, 2,21‒10,24%, and 3,63‒72,37%. Finally, it can be concluded that fermentation can increase the digestibility of feed with local ingredients by common carp juvenile.   Keywords: fermentation, digestibility, local materials, common carp

Abstract

ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted to evaluate the level of organic selenium in the diet on the growth performance of red tilapia Oreochromis sp. Four levels of organic selenium namely 0, 1, 2, and 4 g Se/kg diet were used as a treatment, and the selenium content on the diets are 0.12, 0.19, 1.05, and 1.42 mg Se/kg respectively. This experiment were used randomized design with four treatments and two replications. All the diet was formulated to have similar protein and energy. Juvenile red tilapia with average body weight of 9.49±0.94 g were reared in the 80×40×40 cm3 aquarium with density of 10 fish/aquarium. Fish were reared for 40 days and feed four times daily at satiation levels. The result of this study showed that fish fed diet containing 4 g organic Se/kg diet (1,42 mg Se/kg) had the best growth performance. Keywords: organic selenium, growth, red tilapia  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dosis selenium organik pada pakan terhadap kinerja pertumbuhan ikan nila merah Oreochromis sp. Empat macam dosis selenium organik yang digunakan adalah 0, 1, 2, dan 4 g Se/kg pakan. Kandungan selenium pada setiap pakan berturut-turut adalah 0,12; 0,19; 1,05; dan 1,42 mg Se/kg pakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak dengan empat perlakuan dan dua ulangan. Semua pakan diformulasikan memiliki protein dan energi yang sama. Ikan yang digunakan adalah juvenil nila merah dengan bobot rata-rata 9,49±0,95 g yang dipelihara dalam akuarium berukuran 80×40×40 cm3 dengan kepadatan 10 ekor/akuarium. Ikan tersebut dipelihara selama 40 hari dengan frekuensi pemberian pakan empat kali sehari secara at satiation. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ikan yang diberi pakan yang mengandung 4 g Se organik/kg pakan (1,42 mg Se/kg) memperlihatkan kinerja pertumbuhan terbaik. Kata kunci: selenium organik, pertumbuhan, nila merah

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to examine the growth performance and non-specific immune response of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) fed on the diet supplemented with ?-(1,3) glucan (BG) and poly-?-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) as feed additives. Shrimp juvenile at an initial body weight of 2.06±0.03 g was randomly distributed into 12 units of aquaria at a density of 20 shrimps/tank and reared for 42 days. The treatments applied in this study were control (without feed additives), 1.5 g/kg BG, 10 g/kg PHB and 1,5 g/kg BG+10 g/kg PHB. Results showed that shrimp fed on 1.5 /kg BG-supplemented feed had significantly higher growth performance and non-specific immune response. Keywords: growth, shrimp, non-specific immune response, Litopenaeus vannamei  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kinerja pertumbuhan dan respons imun nonspesifik udang vaname Litopenaeus vannamei yang diberi pakan dengan penambahan feed additive berupa ?-(1,3) glukan (BG) dan poli-?-hidroksibutirat (PHB). Juvenil udang 2,06±0,03 g dipelihara pada 12 unit akuarium dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan, serta padat tebar 20 ekor/tank selama 42 hari pemeliharaan. Perlakuan yang diberikan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penambahan BG (1,5 g/kg), PHB (10 g/kg), dan BG (1,5 g/kg)+PHB (10 g/kg), serta kontrol (tanpa penambahan feed additive). Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of different combination of feeding frequency of Tubifex (C) and artificial diet (P) on survival and growth rate of larval yellow tail catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus. Newly hatched larvae (d0) with total length of 0.44±0.04 cm were cultured for 14 days in 30×20×20 cm3 aquarium. Water volume in each aquarium was 9 L. At d5, larvae were fed on five different feeding frequencies either 6C+0PB, 5C+2PB, 3C+3PB, 2C+5PB, dan 0C+6PB. Feeding method used in this research was ad libitum. Results showed that survival and total length of d14 old larvae fed on 0C+6PB was lower than the groups fed on either 6C+0PB or three combinations of C+PB. Lipase activity tend to be increase in line with the increasing amount of artificial feed. On the other hand, larvae fed on 6C+0PB and 0C+6PB had the lowest protease activity. Therefore, larval catfish can be fed by combination of Tubifex and artificial feed. Keywords: artificial diet, lipase activity, protease activity, sludge worm, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini mengevaluasi pengaruh perbedaan frekuensi pemberian pakan harian cacing sutra (C) dan pakan buatan (PB) terhadap sintasan dan pertumbuhan larva ikan patin Pangasianodon hypophthalmus. Larva ikan patin yang baru menetas berukuran 0,44±0,04 cm dipelihara dalam akuarium kaca berukuran 30×20×20 cm3 yang diisi air setinggi 15 cm selama 14 hari. Mulai dh5, larva diberi lima perlakuan frekuensi pemberian pakan, yaitu 6C+0PB, 5C+2PB, 3C+3PB, 2C+5PB, dan 0C+6PB. Pemberian pakan dilakukan secara ad libitum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa larva yang diberi 6C+0PB dan kombinasi C+PB memiliki tingkat kelangsungan hidup dan panjang akhir yang tidak berbeda nyata. Namun larva yang diberi 0C+6PB, menghasilkan tingkat kelangsungan hidup dan panjang akhirnya terendah. Semakin banyak porsi sering frekuensi pemberian PB yang diberikan menunjukkan tren aktivitas lipase yang cenderung meningkat. Tetapi pada aktivitas protease pada pemberian 6C+0PB dan 0C+6PB lebih rendah dari ketiga perlakuan kombinasi C+PB. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted as a preliminary study on utilization of RBO for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) diet by also evaluating its effect on growth the performance. This research used SULTANA strain at average initial body weights of 8.33±0.07 g/ind. Experimental design was set in completely randomized design. Each treatment was done in triplicates. The treatments were various additions of RBO to replace corn oil in the diet, which were 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Feeding rate, feed efficiency, protein retention, fat retention, specific growth rate, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL (high-density lipoprotein), and hematology were used as evaluating parameters. The results showed that the growth performance, blood chemistry and hematology of fish decreased as the increasing of RBO level in the diet. These are caused by feed intake decreased significantly, which were 583.5 g to 145.6 g of treatments 0% to 100% RBO. Blood glucose, haemoglobin and specific growth of fish in the treatment of 0?100% RBO were 48.7?22.2 mg/dL, 7.6?5.4%, and 3.5?0.8%, respectively. The lowest survival was observed in fish fed 100% RBO (66.7%). Fish growth performance of 0% RBO was the best, so RBO could not be utilized yet as a source of fatty acid or corn oil replacement in tilapia diet. Keywords: free radical, HCN, Oreochromis sp., rubber seed oil  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan sebagai studi awal pemanfaatan minyak biji karet (MBK) untuk pakan ikan nila dan mengevaluasi pengaruhnya terhadap pertumbuhan ikan nila. Ikan uji yang digunakan adalah ikan nila strain SULTANA dengan bobot awal rata-rata 8,33±0,07 g/ind. Penelitian didesain dalam rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan lima perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yang diuji berbagai sumbangan MBK untuk mengganti minyak jagung dalam pakan, yaitu 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, dan 100%. Selama pemeliharaan, beberapa parameter yang diukur adalah jumlah konsumsi pakan, efisiensi pakan, retensi protein, retensi lemak, laju pertumbuhan spesifik, glukosa, kolesterol, trigliserida, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), dan gambaran darah. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kinerja pertumbuhan, kimia darah dan gambaran darah ikan semakin menurun seiring dengan penambahan MBK dalam pakan. Hal ini disebabkan semakin menurunnya jumlah konsumsi pakan secara signifikan, yaitu 583,5 g menjadi 145,7 g dari perlakuan 0% ke 100% MBK. Glukosa darah, hemoglobin dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik ikan pada perlakuan 0?100% MBK masing-masing adalah 48,7?22,2 mg/dL, 7,6?5,4% dan 3,5?0,8%. Sintasan ikan terendah terjadi pada perlakuan 100% MBK, yaitu 66,7%. Kinerja pertumbuhan pada perlakuan 0% MBK adalah yang paling baik sehingga MBK belum dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber lemak menggantikan minyak jagung pada pakan ikan nila. Kata kunci: radikal bebas, HCN, Oreochromis sp., minyak biji karet
