Abstract

with visual impairment in mathematics teaching learning on a conceptual and procedural knowledge in class IX SMPLB A YKAB Surakarta. This research was a qualitative case study, investigating deeply about the interaction of the teacher and the students in order that the interaction pattern can be described in the mathematics teaching learning. The subjects of this research were a mathematics teacher and all students of class IX SMPLB A YKAB Surakarta. The data in this study were in the form of teacher and students interactions obtained from transcriptions of the teaching learning recordings during twice observations. The transcription results were the teacher and the students’ conversations that are further reduced in order to obtain certain conversation related to the teaching learning of conceptual and procedural knowledge. Furthermore, labeling speech act and speech interaction was conducted in the conversation of conceptual and procedural teaching learning. Based on the labeling, speech interaction were categorized into three, namely: 1) speech interaction that was begun with speech act of giving information (BIn), 2) speech interaction that was begun with speech act of performing information (UIn), and 3) speech interaction that was begun with speech act of stimulating information (TIn). Each of the categories was analyzed so that the subjects that are interacting can be examined. The result of the analysis became the data of teacher and students interaction. The technique used to validate the data was time triangulation done by matching the data of the teacher and the students’ interaction taken from the first observation and the data of the teacher and the students’ interaction taken from the second observation.The results of the matching process were used to describe the interaction pattern. The findings of this research were: 1) the interaction pattern of the teacher and the students with visual impairment in mathematics teaching learning on a conceptual knowledge in class IX SMPLB A YKAB Surakarta was a two-way interaction pattern with inter-students interactions.Two-way interactionwith studentteachersis dominatedby theactivities ofthe teacherto giving information (BIN) and the performing information (TIN) to the students. While theinteractionbetween studentsis dominatedbythe activities ofthe studentsto performanceinformation(UIN). 2) the interaction pattern of the teacher and the students with visual impairment in mathematics teaching learning on a procedural knowledge in class IX SMPLB A YKAB Surakarta was a multiple-way interaction pattern (optimal result). Abstract

Abstract: This research aims at knowing (1) the effectiveness of TPS, MURDER and Direct Instruction model to the students´ achievement on mathematics, (2) which learning model TPS, MURDER and Direct Instruction, having better achievement on mathematics viewed from students’ interest, (3) students’ achievement viewed from students’ interest on each learning model. This research is experimental research using factorial design 3x3. The population is students of SMK on technique program in Karanganyar. Sampling is stratified cluster random sampling. The sample is 300 students, 100 is first experimental class, 100 is second experimental class and 100 is control class. Collecting data has been done through multiple choice test to know students’ achievement and questionnaire to know students interest in learning. Instrument test and questionnaire were tested before it is used to take data. Instrument validities test and questionnaire were carried out by validator, reliability test was tested by formula KR-20 and reliability questionnaire was tested with formula Cronbach Alpha while its data analysis technique uses two-way analysis of variance with unequal cells. From the result was concluded that: (1) Students who are taught using cooperative learning model, MURDER, have better achievement than TPS and Direct Instruction. Those taught by using TPS have better achievement than Direct Instruction. (2) Viewed from students’ interest, high, mid, and low, taught by using learning MURDER have better achievement than TPS and those taught by using TPS have better achievement than Direct Instruction. (3) Viewed from learning model MURDER, TPS, and Direct Instruction, students having high interest have better achievement than those students having mid interest and students having mid interest have better achievement than those students having low interest.Keywords: MURDER, TPS, Interests Learning, Students Achievement on mathematics.

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of research are to find out, in mathematics learning for two-variable linear equation system subject matter: (1) which one providing better achievement, the CTL learning model with STAD, that with NHT or the direct learning model, (2) which one providing better achievement, high, medium or low self-confidence, and (3) in high, medium or low self-confidence, which one providing better achievement, CTL approach with STAD or NHT type or direct learning model.The population of research was the students of Junior High Schools throughout Madiun Regency in the first semester of VIII grade in the school year of 2011/2012. The sampling technique used was stratified cluster random sampling with the students of SMP Negeri 2 Dolopo, SMP Negeri 2 Kebonsari and SMP Negeri 2 Geger as the sample. The instruments used to collect the data included test to obtain the data of mathematic learning achievement and questionnaire for the on of student’s self-confidence. Technique of analyzing data used was 3x3 two-way variance analysis. From the result of analysis, it could be concluded that: (1) The mathematics learning achievement of students using STAD type of cooperative learning model with CTL approach was better than that using NHT type, that using STAD type with CTL approach was better than that using direct learning model, and that using NHT type with CTL approach was better than that using direct learning model. (2) The mathematics learning achievement with high self-confidence was better than that with medium one; that with high self-confidence was better than that with low one; and that with medium self-confidence was better than that with low one. (3) Viewed from self-confidence level, the mathematics learning achievement of the students using STAD type of cooperative learning with CTL approach was better than that using NHT type, that using STAD type of cooperative learning with CTL approach was better than that using direct learning model, and that using NHT type of cooperative learning with CTL approach was better than that using direct learning model.Keywords: Learning model, CTL approach STAD, NHT, , direct learning, self confidence.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of research was to find out: (1) which ones having better achievement, the students using TPS (Think Pair Share) learning with CTL approach or STAD (Students Teams Achievement Divisions) cooperative learning model with CTL approach or direct learning, (2) which ones having better learning achievement, the students with kinesthetic or visual or auditory learning style, (3) in each learning style, which ones having better achievement, the students using TPS (Think Pair Share) learning with CTL approach or STAD (Students Teams Achievement Divisions) cooperative learning model with CTL approach or direct learning, and (4) in each learning model, which ones having better learning achievement, the students with kinesthetic or visual or auditory learning style. The population of research was all VIII graders of Public Junior High schools in Bojonegoro Regency consisting of 55 schools. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling. The sample consisted of 304 students divided into experiment I, experiment II, and control groups. The conclusions of research were: (1) TPS CTL learning provided learning achievement better than STAD CTL and direct, but STAD CTL learning provided learning achievement as same as the direct learning did. (2) The students with kinesthetic learning style had learning achievement better than those with visual and auditory learning styles. But, the students with visual and those with auditory learning styles had equal learning achievement. (3) a. In kinesthetic learning style, all learning models provided the same learning achievement. b. In visual learning style, TPS CTL learning provided learning achievement better than STAD CTL. Meanwhile, direct learning provided the learning achievement as same as the TPS CTL and STAD CTL learning models did. c. In auditory learning style, all learning models provided the same learning achievement. (4) a. In TPS CTL learning model, the students with kinesthetic learning style had better achievement than those with auditory learning style. The students with visual learning style had learning achievement equal to those having kinesthetic and auditory learning styles, b. In STAD CTL learning model, the students with kinesthetic learning style had better achievement than those with visual and auditory learning styles. However, the students with visual learning style had learning achievement equal to those with auditory learning style, c. Abstract

Abstract: This research aimed to find out the thinking process VII Graders of Junior High School in mathematics problem solving in plane geometry. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of research was the VII graders of SMP (Junior High School) Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta consisting of four students. The subject was selected based on gender, mathematics ability and either spoken or written communication fluency. The data collection was conducted using think aloud technique. Data analysis was conducted based think aloud protocol. Then, time triangulation was conducted between the first and the second problems, and then method triangulation was done to obtain valid research subject data.This research finally provide the student’s thinking process as follows. The male students: 1) understand and analyze the problem by mentioning what they know and what asked, the thinking process used is the process of establishing cognition, 2) design and plan solution, used the thinking process of opinion establishment, 3) look for solution to problem solving, used thinking process of decision making and conclusion drawing, 4) examine the solution, could estimate mentally by writing nothing he did, the thinking process in this step was decision making thinking process. Female students: 1) understand the problem using thinking process of establishing cognition, to mention easily and correctly what they know in the problem and to mention what asked, 2) design and plan the solution using thinking process of opinion establishment and cognition establishment. could link the what known and what asked, 3) look for solution to problem using thinking process of decision making and conclusion drawing, 4) examine the solution, it is consistent with the students that can examine and investigate the prepared solution.Keywords: thinking process, mathematics problem solving, gender.

Abstract

Abstract:The aims of the research is to describe the thinking process at senior high school students in solving the application problems of the derivative function viewed from personality type choleric, sanguine, melancholies, and phlegmatic. The research was a descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the research was students of class XII Senior High School 1 Surakarta consist of one student for each personality types. The prosedure of selecting the subjects used purposive sampling. The data of the research was collected by using think aloud method. The validity of the data used was triangulation. Technique analyzing of the data were: (1) classifying the data into three categories: (a) understanding the information, (b) solving the problems, (c) convincing the answer, and then reducing the data, (2) presenting the data, and (3) concluding the data in each categories. The results of the research showed that thinking process for, (1) choleric student: (a) reading and creating an image, understanding information and question, (b) devising solution, connecting the first equation with the planned solution, solving the problem and only using one way solution, (c) substituting the answers into the first equation and determining maximum value of the function, (2) sanguine student: (a) reading and looking, then creating an image, understanding information although having difficulties and understanding question, (b) devising solution, connecting the first equation with the planned solution, solving the problem although having difficulties and using the other solution, (c) substituting the answers into the first equation and adjusting the answers with the problem in question, (3) melancholies student: (a) reading repeatedly, then creating an image, understanding information although having difficulties and understanding question, (b) devising solution, connecting the first equation with the planned solution although having difficulties, solving the problem and using the other solution (c) determining maximum value of the function, (4) phlegmatic student: (a) looking and then creating an image, understanding information and question, (b) devising solution, connecting the first equation with the planned solution although having difficulties, solving the problem and only using one way solution, (c) looking back at the anwers and adjusting with the actual event.Keywords: thinking process, problem solving, personality type Typology Hippocrates-Galenus

Abstract

Abstract: This research aimed to know: (1) which of the NHT modified model, the NHT model or the direct learning model promoted the students? better achievement on mathematics, (2) which one is better, the students with visual learning style, auditorial learning style, or kinesthetics learning style, and (3) in various learning style, which one having better achievement on mathematic, the NHT modified model, the NHT model or the direct learning model. This research was a quasi-experiments research with factorial design 3x3. The population of this research was the eight grade students of State Junior High Schools in Ponorogo. The sample was taken by the use of stratified cluster random sampling technique. The data collecting made use the documentation, questionnaire, and test methods. The documentation method was used to collect the data of the second-semester students? achievement on mathematics in the academic year 2011/2012 as found in their report books. This finding was further applied to check the balance of the students of the two exsperiment classrooms and one control classroom. The questionnaire was used to find the type of learning style mostly owned by the students. Whiles, the test was used to determine the students? achievement on mathematics in the straight line equation topic. Examination of hypothesis used an unbalanced two way analysis of variances at significance levels 5%. The results of the research was as follows: (1) the students? achievement on mathematics due to NHT modified model was equally due to NHT model, while the two models above was better than due to direct learning model, (2) there was no distinction among visual learning style, auditorial learning style, and kinesthetics learning style based on the students? achievement on mathematics, and (3) in various of learning style, the students? achievement on mathematics due to NHT?s modification model was equally due to NHT model, while the two models above was better than due to direct learning model.Keywords: the NHT Modified, the Direct Learning Model, the Learning Style

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project dapat menghasilkan prestasi belajar matematika yang lebih baik daripada model pembelajaran langsung, baik secara umum maupun ditinjau pada masing-masing tingkat kemampuan spasial siswa. Selain itu, untuk mengetahui apakah siswa dengan kemampuan spasial yang lebih tinggi menghasilkan prestasi belajar matematika yang lebih baik daripada siswa dengan kemampuan spasial yang lebih rendah pada materi pokok luas permukaan serta volume prisma dan limas. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental semu dengan desain faktorial 2x3. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kartasura sebanyak 251 siswa. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 71 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah nilai mid semester genap tahun ajaran 2011/2012, tes prestasi belajar matematika, dan tes kemampuan spasial siswa. Uji coba instrumen meliputi validitas isi, tingkat kesukaran, daya beda, dan reliabilitas. Uji prasyarat meliputi uji normalitas menggunakan metode Lilliefors serta uji homogenitas variansi menggunakan metode Bartlett dan uji-F. Uji keseimbangan menggunakan uji-t. Uji hipotesis menggunakan analisis variansi dua jalan dengan sel tak sama. Berdasarkan pengujian hipotesis diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project menghasilkan prestasi belajar matematika yang lebih baik daripada model pembelajaran langsung, baik secara umum maupun ditinjau pada masing-masing tingkat kemampuan spasial serta untuk siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan spasial tinggi menghasilkan prestasi belajar matematika yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan spasial sedang dan rendah sedangkan siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan spasial sedang menghasilkan prestasi belajar matematika yang sama baiknya dengan siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan spasial rendah.   Kata Kunci: Missouri Mathematics Project, Pembelajaran Langsung, Kemampuan Spasial

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of research were to find out: (1) which one providing better mathematics learning achievement, NHT or TPS or conventional learning model, (2) in the student creativity level, which one having better mathematics learning achievement, high or medium or low creativity, (3a) in each learning model (NHT, TPS and Conventional) which one providing better mathematics learning achievement, high or medium or low student learning creativity, (3b) in each student creativity level (high, medium, and low) which one providing better mathematics learning achievement, NHT or TPS or conventional learning model.This study was a quasi-experimental research. The research design used was a 3x3 factorial design. The population of research was all VII graders of Junior High Schools throughout Pacitan Regency in the school year of 2012/2013. Meanwhile the sample was taken using stratified random sampling. The sample consisted of 275 students: 92 students for experiment I class, 92 for experiment II class and 91 for control class. The instruments used to collect the data were learning creativity questionnaire and mathematics learning achievement test. From the result of research, it could be concluded that: (1) NHT learning model provided mathematics learning achievement as good as the TPS learning model did and better than the conventional learning model did, while TPS learning model provided mathematics learning achievement as good as the conventional learning model did. (2) The learning achievement of the students with high creativity was better than that of those with medium creativity, the learning achievement of the students with high creativity was better than that of those with low creativity, and the learning achievement of the students with medium creativity was as good as that of those with low creativity. (3a) On each learning model, the learning achievement of the students with high creativity was better than that of those with medium and low creativity, while the learning achievement of the students with medium creativity was as good as that of those with low creativity. (3b) On each creativity level whether high, medium or low, the mathematics learning achievement of the students taught with NHT learning model was as good as that of those taught with TPS learning model but was better than that of those taught with conventional model. And the learning achievement of the students taught with TPS learning model was as good as that of those taught with conventional model.Keywords: NHT, TPS, Conventional, Learning Creativity.
