Abstract

The sorption of water on granular polyamide-6 (PA6), granular polypropylene (PP), and powdery high density polyethylene (HDPE) and powdery polyvinyl chloride (PVC) were measured using a gravimetric method in a magnetic suspension balance (MSB). The Flory-Huggins model was successfully applied on the sorption equilibrium curve of all investigated polymers. The influence of temperature is low. The value of Flory-Huggins parameters(c) of PA6, PVC, PP and HDPE were 1.8, 5.8, 6.3, and 8.1, respectively. The water in PA6 is mainly bound moisture, while in PP, HDPE and PVC it is mainly surface moisture.

Abstract

The plastic waste utilization can be addressed toward different valuable products. A promising technology for the utilization is by converting it to fuels. Simultaneous modeling and optimization representing effect of reactor temperature, catalyst calcinations temperature, and plastic/catalyst weight ratio toward performance of liquid fuel production was studied over modified catalyst waste. The optimization was performed to find optimal operating conditions (reactor temperature, catalyst calcination temperature, and plastic/catalyst weight ratio) that maximize the liquid fuel product. A Hybrid Artificial Neural Network-Genetic Algorithm (ANN-GA) method was used for the modeling and optimization, respectively. The variable interaction between the reactor temperature, catalyst calcination temperature, as well as plastic/catalyst ratio is presented in surface plots. From the GC-MS characterization, the liquid fuels product was mainly composed of C4 to C13 hydrocarbons.KONVERSI LIMBAH PLASTIK MENJADI BAHAN BAKAR CAIR DENGAN METODE PERENGKAHAN KATALITIK MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS BEKAS YANG TERMODIFIKASI: PEMODELAN DAN OPTIMASI MENGGUNAKAN GABUNGAN METODE ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK DAN GENETIC ALGORITHM. Pemanfaatan limbah plastik dapat dilakukan untuk menghasilkan produk yang lebih bernilai tinggi. Salah satu teknologi yang menjanjikan adalah dengan mengkonversikannya menjadi bahan bakar. Permodelan, simulasi dan optimisasi simultan yang menggambarkan efek dari suhu reaktor, suhu kalsinasi katalis, dan rasio berat plastik/katalis terhadap kinerja produksi bahan bakar cair telah dipelajari menggunakan katalis bekas termodifikasi Optimisasi ini ditujukan untuk mencari kondisi operasi optimum (suhu reaktor, suhu kalsinasi katalis, dan rasio berat plastik/katalis) yang memaksimalkan produk bahan bakar cair. Metode Hybrid Artificial Neural Network-Genetic Algorithm (ANN-GA) telah digunakan untuk permodelan dan optimisasi simultan tersebut. Inetraksi antar variabel suhu reaktor, suhu kalsinasi katalis, dan rasio berat plastik/katalis digambarkan dalam bentuk plot surface. Berdasarkan karakterisasi GC-MS, produk bahan bakar yang diperoleh terdiri dari komponen-komponen hidrokarbon C4-C13.

Abstract

Formaldehida sebagai senyawa aldehida memiliki keistimewaan yaitu dapat bereaksi dengan hampir semua senyawa organik maupun anorganik sehingga formaldehida amat luas penggunaannya dalam industri yang ada. Reaksi oksidasi metanol menjadi formaldehida banyak dilakukan dalam reaktor anggun tetap. Dalam pengoperasiannya, di dalam reaktor ini sering dijumpai adanya fenomena yang  sangat  komplikatif dan mengganggu jalannya operasi yaitu distribusi aliran tidak merata (flow maldistribution) dan panas terlokalisir (hot spot). Kedua fenomena ini  sangat berbahaya karena dapat mengakibatkan terjadinya reaksi "runaway", yakni terjadinya kenaikan temperatur dan tekanan  reaktor yang sangat hebat secara mendadak. Penelitian ini  bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi temperatur sepanjang reaktor unggun tetap akibat pengaruh variabel operasi serta mempelajari pengaruh sensitivitas parameter operasi tehadap terjadinya reaksi runaway. Penelitian dilakukan dengan percobaan pengamatan distribusi tempeatur pusat reaktor secara aksial dan pemodelan untuk mengetahui kapan terjadinya reaksi runaway. berdasarkan hasil percobaan, pada temperatur umpan mendekati temperatur reaksi, semakin besar laju alir massa umpan total maka suhu yang teramati semakin besar pula. Demikian pula pada pengaruh umpan, semakin besar tempperatur umpan maka temperatur keluaran reaktor juga semakin besar. Hasil penyepakatan secara umum menunjukkan pendekatan yang bagus dengan hasil eksperimen. Reaksi runaway terjadi pada hasil simulasi dimana parameter operasi yang berpengaruh adalah fraksi metanol. dalam penelitian ini direkomendasikan bahwa fraksi methanol dalam umpan tidak boleh lebih dari 0,1.

Application of Mobile Telemedicine System to Support Public Health Service in Remote Areas

Abstract

This article discusses mobile telemedicine system, in order to support public health service in remote area which is held by Puskesmas. Mobile telemedicine system has been developed by Biomedical Engineering Research Group of STEI–ITB in collaboration with RSUDSyamsuddin SH Sukabumi. The system consist of a portable telemedicine unit as patient- bedside unit, and a physician- base unit. Communication and data transmission between both units can be carried out by GSM, CDMA, PSTN, VHF radio network, and/or Internet. Patient information consists of medical and demography data, a text, audio or picture. The system is able to be used for recording, reporting,  teleconsultation, telediagnosis, and teleeducation. Preliminary operational test was held at Sukabumi successfully. The result is very promising for applicating the device widely in Indonesia.Keywords: mobile telemedicine system, portable telemedicine unit, base unit health service.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of work is to study influence of Sr or TiB addition to the microstructure and fluidity of Al-6%Si-0,7%Fe alloys on sand casting process. Al-6%Si-0,7%Fe were melted in crucible furnace at 7300 C and added Sr or TiB. The fluidity of the molten metals were being measured by Birmingham method. The microstructure changes were studied by optical microscope. The results show that the addition of Sr in Al-6%Si-0,7%Fe alloy modify the morphology of the eutectic silicon phase from a coarse platelike structure to fine fibrous structure. The additional of TiB in Al-6%Si-0,7%Fe alloys result fine fibrous structure. The Addition Sr or TiB in Al-6%Si-0.7%Fe alloys decreases fluidity of the molten metals.Keywords: Al-Si; Fluidity; Grain refiner TiB; Modification Sr

Abstract

AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui sifat mekanis dan struktur mikro dari baja karbon menengahpaduan rendah (Low Alloy Medium Carbon Steel) AISI 4140 dengan perbedaan kondisi tempering. Padapenelitian ini, material terlebih dahulu dikeraskan (Hardening) dengan cara pemanasan material sampaitemperatur 900oC dan ditahan selama 3 jam lalu didinginkan dengan cepat (quencing) pada mediapendingin polimer sampai mencapai temperatur kamar. Tempering dilakukan dengan variasi holding time0.5 jam, 1 jam dan 2 jam pada temperatur 600oC.Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sifat mekanis dan struktur mikro sangat dipengaruhi oleh temperatur temperingdan waktu penahanaan. Nilai rata-rata kekerasan as bar meningkat drastis setelah proses quench sebelumdikeraskan (before hardening) 26.6 HRC dan setelah dikeraskan (after hardening) naik 104 % menjadi54.3 HRC. Setelah proses temper pada temperatur 600oC nilai rata-rata kekerasan menurun selamapeningkatan waktu penahanaan pada kondisi temper. Nilai kekerasan turun hingga 44.1% sebesar 30.4HRC, pada penahanan selama 2 jam. Pengamatan mikrostruktur menampakkan bahwa temper martensitlebih seragam dengan pertambahan waktu penahanan ( hold time) pada saat temper.Keywords : AISI 4140, Holding Time, Tempering

Abstract

Automatic Trash Capacity Detection System for Real Estate, there are two parts including: transmitter unit part and receiver unit part by alternating communication. The both of parts working by wireless using Radio Frequency wave. The transmitter unit part there are Infrared Sensors module, Microcontroller module, Modulator of Frequency Shift Keying module, and Transmitter of Frequency Modulation module. While on receiver unit there are Receiver of Frequency Modulation module, Demodulator of Frequency Shift Keying Module, Microcontroller module, Interfacing module, and Personal Computer for monitoring and database view.

Abstract

The prediction of road pavement performance may be facilitated by appropriate models developed by analyzing sets of historical data or data collected from accelerated pavement testing facilities. However, there may be systematic or random errors in these data sets and also the data sets may not be complete or represent the full range of conditions likely to occur in the field. As a result the predictions made by the models may not be fully accurate and include a degree of uncertainty. Therefore, ideally the behavioral modeling of long-term pavement performance should include a procedure for taking into account the uncertainty in the data and quantify it accordingly. This paper presents such a methodology that first defines the reliability of pavement performance predictions and its associated risk using a probabilistic approach. It then demonstrates how the reliability of pavement performance predictions can be estimated by considering the variability of the parameters (such as pavement strength, cumulative equivalent standard axle load and initial pavement roughness) that make up the performance model. A framework is presented that uses the Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate the effect of the model parameters variability on the allowable cumulative equivalent standard axle load applications. The analysis demonstrates that data variability has a significant influence on the reliability of pavement performance prediction.

Adjusting WiMAX for a Dedicated Surveillance Network

Abstract

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) devices have been used widely in the market. WiMAX-based video surveillance products have also been available. The acceptance of WiMAX in the market, as well as the availability of WiMAX products, contributes to the possibility of implementing it for dedicated video surveillance application. However, since WiMAX is designed to accommodate various applications with different quality of service (QoS) requirements, WiMAX–based dedicated surveillance network may not achieve optimum performance, as all SSs generate the same QoS requirements. The scheduler cannot implement traffic type priority; therefore, service classification does not work as expected. This paper proposes WiMAX adjustment to transform a multi-purpose WiMAX network into a network dedicated to video surveillance. NS-2 simulations show that the proposed adjustment is able to deliver low delay and high quality video surveillance

Abstract

This research was conducted to know growth of food commodity, tobacco and vegetable, at the same time determine pre-eminent agriculture commodity in every district in Jember. This research was  done in Jember by using secondary data of Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Jember. Data research cover data agriculture of food commodity, vegetable, and tobacco in all district in Jember. Analyzer the used is supply analysis (trend linear analysis) and Location Quotient ( LQ) analysis. Result of this research indicate that: (1) Crop paddy, cabbage and tobacco of Na Oogst is crop which at most developed by farmers. (2) Crop paddy, eggplant and tobacco of White Burley is pre-eminent crop in Jember. Keyword: commodity, agriculture, pre-eminent
