Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential use of Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) leaves as an antibacterial agent for Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Noni leaves are processed with four methods i.e., mealing, blending, juicing, and decocting. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The variables measured were phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity through bacterial inhibitory test. Qualitative test was used for phytochemical analysis and quantitative analysis was used for antibacterial of noni leaves. The antibacterial activity of noni leaves with diffusion well method used 4 concentrations i.e., 2.5; 5; 7.5; and 10% and extracted by maceration with 4 solvents i.e., water, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and hexane. The results showed that the processing of Noni leaves produced various active compounds. The noni leaves meal produces a more active type of compound group compared to 3 other treatments. Antibacterial tests against Escherichia coli were not seen in all noni leaves processing, but were seen to positively inhibit Salmonella typhimurium in the extraction process of Noni leaves meal using ethanol and ethyl acetate solvents at 48 hours maceration. The conclusions of the results showed that noni leaves meal extract using ethanol and ethyl acetate macerated for 48 hours was able to inhibit Salmonella typhimurium bacteria.

Abstract

Fat, cholesterol and fatty acid profile of breast and thigh meat of 12 Muscovy ducks (6 drakes) aged 8 weeks from the local farm in Bogor, West Java were analyzed in thus study. In general, Muscovy ducks were fed with rice bran twice a day and free-ranged in the backyard. The nutrition of rice bran is varied in crude protein, crude fiber, fat, and ash content. Muscovy ducks were slaughtered and the percentage of carcass weight, fat, cholesterol and fatty acid profile of the breast and thigh meat were measured and analyzed. The result showed that the breast meat had higher (P<0.05) ω3 total fatty acid EPA (C20:5ω3) but DHA (C22:6ω3) and linolenic acid (C18:3ω3) were not significant compared to that of thigh meat. Concentration of linolenic acid in breast meat ranged from 0.26 to 0.51% of fat and 0.35 to 0.39% of fat in thigh meat. Linoleic acid (C18:2ω6) in breast and thigh meat was 7.64 - 10.73% and 5.17 - 13.93 % fat, respectively. DHA concentration ranged from 0.13-1.31% fat in breast meat and EPA in thigh meat was approximately 0.08-0.32 % fat.  EPA was significantly higher (P<0.05) in breast meat (0.03-0.28 %) than thigh meat (0.05-0.08 %) The study produced ω 6:3 ratio ranged 6.50-24.14 and 8.94-31.64 in breast and thigh meat, respectively.

Abstract

A feeding trial was conducted to determind the effects of incorporating Setaria Gajah (Setaria splendida, Stapf) into the diet of broiler chicks. The Setaria Gajah was added to cornsoybean meal type diets at levels of 3, 6, and 9%.Feed consumption and weight gains were reduced as the level of Setaria Gajah increased. Up to 3% Setaria Gajah was tolerated without adversely affecting performance.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to get some information concerning lysine and methionine requirements for egg production. Five weeks of age of Female Japanese Quail were subjected to 9 treatments. The treatments were 3 levels of lysine (1.39%; 1.18%; 0.92%) and 3 level of methionine (0.55%; 0.45%; 0.35%). The basal diets were isocaloric and isonitrogenous. Egg production was significantly increased by lysine (P&lt;0.05) as well as methionine (P&lt;0.01). The highest production was achieved by a combination of 1.38% lysine and 0.55% methionine. However, the treatments did not influenced feed consumption and feed conversion.

Abstract

This experiments aims to study the effect of feeding duck management with extensive and semi intensive system for feed quality, eggs quality and egg production. This experiments used one hundred ducks (intensive) and one hundred ducks semi intensive (fifty ducks in rice field, fifty ducks in the river) that twelve month old. This experiments was conducted in duck raising in Ciherang Village, Bogor Regency. The variables  measured were content of nutrient ration, eggs production and quality of eggs. Production and quality of eggs were analyzed using Anova. The results showed  that  intensive  system  used  commercial  ration  contained  9.85% moisture, 12.89 % crude protein, 9.94% crude fiber, 2.87% fat, 4.35% Ca, and  0.20% P while semi intensive system of duck used commercial ration plus feed from rice field like grain of rice, grass, and unknown material with contained 9.56% moisture, 12.03% crude protein, 10.66% crude fiber, 2.93% fat, 4.41%, Ca and 0.16% P and feed from the river like snails, small crabs, sand, and small stones which contained  9:99 % moisture, 11.76 % crude protein, 11.81% crude fiber, 3.03 % fat, 4:57% Ca, 0:18% P. The system of duck raising did not significantly different  for  quality of eggs.  Production  and  yolk  colour  score  of  egg  in  semi intensive system (in rice field) higher than intensive system P&lt;0.05).

Abstract

Performance of broilers fed diets containing potassium diformate to replace flavomycinABSTRACT. The aim of this research was to study the effect of potassium-diformate (PD) on broiler performance. One hundred and twenty old chicks of Cobb strain were divided into fifteen groups and feed one of five treatments, namely: P1 (control diet), P2 (P1 + 0,5%PD), P3(P1 + 1%PD), P4 (P1 + 1,5%PD) and P5 (P1 + antibiotic). Data from Completely Randomized Design were analyzed by ANOVA and any significant among them were used contrast orthogonal test. Treatments did not impact on feed consumption, mortality and percentage of viscera, but the groups treated with 1 and 1.5% PD and flavomicyne antibiotic had significant improvement on body weight gain (P<0.169) and feed efficiency (P<0.05). It is concluded that addition of 1-1.5% potassium-diformate in the broiler’s diet could improve feed efficiency and replace flavomycine antibiotic as growth promotors without influencing the performance of viscera.

Abstract

This research was aimed to evaluate the effect of boiled golden snail (Pomacea canaliculata Lamarck) supplementation on duck diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp to duck performance. A total of 80 Mojosari-Peking hybrid ducks 23 days old were reared for 40 days in this study. The treatments diet was as follows: control diet and 3 treatments diet of boiled golden snail supplementation levels of 10%, 15% and 20%. This research used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. All data was analyzed by variance and if there were signi?icantly differences, further analysis applied was a Duncan Multiple Range Test. The variables observed were duck performance (feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio) and carcass percentage. The results showed that supplementation of boiled golden snail on diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp 10%-20% signi?icantly (p<0.05) increased body weight gain, ?inal body weight, percentage of carcass but decreased feed conversion ratio. It can be concluded that 15% of boiled golden snail (Pomacea canilaculata Lamarck) supplementation on diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp can be use as diet of Mojosari-Peking Hybrid duck
