Abstract

Gastropoda umum dikenal dengan nama siput atau keong yang dapat hidup di beberapa habitat termasuk di habitat sawah. Gastropoda sawah ada yang merugikan karena dapat merusak tanaman tetapi ada juga yang dapat dimanfaatkan dari keberadaannya tersebut. Keberadaan Gastropoda sawah dipengaruhi oleh faktor lingkungan. Faktor lingkungan tentu berbeda pada ketinggian tempat yang berbeda sehingga kemungkinan berpengaruh terhadap jenis Gastropoda yang ada. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui diversitas Gastropoda yang terdapat di habitat sawah dengan ketinggian berbeda. Sampel Gastropoda diambil pada beberapa persawahan dengan ketinggian tempat berbeda yaitu di bawah 100m dpl, 100 sampai 300m dpl dan di atas 300m sampai pada ketinggian 500m dpl. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan membuat kuadrat 1x1m dan diletakkan pada masing-masing sudut petak sawah dan di bagian tengah sawah. Pengambilan sampel juga dilakukan pada saluran irigasi yang mengairi sawah tersebut. Gastropoda yang ditemukan adalah enam jenis dimana Lymnaea rubiginosa dan Digoniostoma truncatum hanya ditemukan pada petak sawah masing-masing lokasi dan jenis Terebia granifera hanya ditemukan di saluran irigasi. Melanoides tuberculata, Melanoides maculata dan Pomacea canaliculata ditemukan di petak sawah dan saluran irigasi. Lokasi I dan II mempunyai indeks diversitas sedang (1,360 dan 1,408) sedangkan indeks diversitas lokasi III rendah (0,795).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the side effects of high-dose injections of vitamin C in a long term against liver histology. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with different long treatments of vitamin C injection in various doses of P0 (control), P1 (30 days injection), P2 (50 days injection), P3 (70 days injection) and P4 (90 days injection). Parameters measured were plasma levels of SGPT and SGOT, the percentage of hydropic degeneration,  fatty degeneration, pyknotik nuclei, and necrosis of liver cells, and also inflammatory cell infiltration and sinusoid congestion. SGOT levels showed a significant differences (P=0,009) between the treatment and control group by ANOVA test. The Kruskal Wallis test showed that ALT levels were not significantly different (P=0,86), however, the levels of creatinine showed significant differences (P=0,002). The hydropic degeneration were not significantly different (P=0,054) by Kruskal Wallis test, whereas the fatty degeneration were significantly different (P=0,000) between the treatment and control groups by ANOVA test. Pyknotik nuclei and necrotic cells showed significant differences between the control and treatment with the P value of 0,016 and 0,01 respetively. The injected white vitamin C in high doses for long periods decreased the physiological functions of female mice liver.

Abstract

Bali has the potency to grow plantation, particularly cacao plants (Theobroma cacao). The increase of cacao production is supported by the increase of the number of productive cacao plants, but the production rate per hectare per year decreased at some districts. One reason of the decreasing cacao production was due to the attack of Plant Disease Organism. This research aimed to investigate the insect families associated with cacao plantations and the fuctions of the insects on cacao plants, at Bedulu Village, District of Blahbatuh, Gianyar Regency. Samples were collected from January to February 2011 and insect identification was conducted for two months at Animal Taxonomy Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University. Field sample collections were arranged by randomized sampling techniques that the block samples were chosen randomly. Samples were collected with beating technique and trapping with sex pheromone. All insects collected from the field belong to eight groups/types. The highest percentage of insect type collected fuctioned as vector (56.1%) and the lowest was acted as parasites (0.1%). The highest number of two groups insects captured were groups of pests and predators. The insect that function as biological control was the family of Labiduridae, Anthocoridae, Reduviidae, Chrysopidae, Gryllidae and Chalcididae.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to identify diversity of the Psocoptera families collected from Nusa Penida. Samples were collected by beating method. Collected specimens were identified at the Laboratory of Animal Taxonomy, Department of Biology, Udayana University. The results showed that Psocoptera collected from Nusa Penida belongs to 5 families those were: Ectopsocidae, Pachytroctidae, Lepidopsocidae, Pseudocaeciliidae and Hemipsocidae. The genus of Lepidopsocus (Lepidopsocidae) was cosmopolitan, found in all sites: Batu Kandik, Puncak Mundi, Bunga Mekar and Ped.Keywords: insecta, Psocoptera, Nusa Penida.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui diversitas serangga permukaan tanah pada pertanian hortikultura organik di Banjar Titigalar, Desa Bangli, Kecamatan Baturiti, Kabupaten Tabanan-Bali. Penelitian dilaksanakan dari bulan Oktober-Desember 2013. Sampel diambil menggunakan Pitfall Trap. Analisa data dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif yaitu dengan mendeskripsikan serangga yang ditemukan dan kemudian diidentifikasi sampai ke tingkat Genus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, terdapat 3.066 individu serangga yang termasuk ke dalam 20 genus, 17 famili dan 7 ordo.  Keseluruhan Ordo serangga yang ditemukan adalah Hymenoptera, Orthoptera, Collembola, Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Homoptera, dan Diptera. Diversitas serangga tertinggi ditemukan pada bulan Oktober dengan nilai Indeks Diversitas (H?)=1,5821 pada malam hari, dan H?=1,3978 pada siang hari, dibandingkan yang paling rendah terjadi pada bulan Desember dengan indseks diversitas H?= 0,5829 pada malam hari dan H?= 0,9223 pada siang hari.

Abstract

In radiology, X-ray has been used to diagnose disease and therapy. However, behind the technologybenefits provided by the radiation, the negative effects are often debated. The purpose of this study was toinvestigate the effects of repeated radiation on sperm quality mice (Mus musculus L). Thirty- two adultmale mice aged three months were divided into groups P1 (1x 200 rad), P2 (2x200 rad), P3 (3x200 rad) andcontrol irradiated with x-rays according to the experimental design . Spermatozoa quality parametersobserved were : number of spermatozoa, motility, viability and morphology of spermatozoa. The results ofthe Post Hoc LSD tests for significant differences (P>0.05) between the control and treatment showed thatthe X-ray radiation exposure to 1x200 rad, 2x200 rad, and 3x200 rad decreases the motility, viability,normal morphology and number spermatozoa produced compared with controls. This is caused by exposureto X-ray radiation causes the formation of free radicals in the body that damage sperm cells mice. Exposureto X-ray radiation repeatedly lowered the quality of spermatozoa of mice.

Abstract

A macrozoobenthos study was conducted at Bausan River, Pererenan village, Badung regency, Bali between September and December, 2006. Samples of macrozoobenthos were taken on transect methods. Six sampling stations were determined purposively. At each station, five unit of square plots of 40 cm x 40 (in maximum solum depth) samples were taken. The result showed that there were seventeen species of macrozoobenthos were found. There was no protected species found in this study. The macrozoobenthos had a medium level of index diversity of 2.28. This indicated that the ecosystem at this area was in a stable condition with a medium level of macrozoobenthos diversity.

Abstract

Malaria adalah penyakit infeksi yang disebabkan oleh parasit Plasmodium. Masalah yang muncul dalam pengendalian malaria saat ini adalah resistensi parasit terhadap obat antimalaria yang tersedia. Eksplorasi tanaman obat merupakan salah satu strategi penting dalam penemuan obat antimalaria. Morus alba dari suku Moraceae, telah digunakan dalam sistem pengobatan tradisional Indonesia untuk obat demam dan malaria. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi aktivitas antimalaria ekstrak metanol daun M. alba secara in vivo terhadap mencit yang terinfeksi Plasmodium berghei. Uji aktivitas antimalaria dilakukan dengan metode Peter?s Test. Artesunat digunakan sebagai obat standar dan ekstrak diberikan secara oral sekali sehari pada mencit yang terinfeksi P. berghei selama 4 hari. Persentase parasitemia diamati selama tujuh hari dengan membuat hapusan darah yang diwarnai dengan Giemsa. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA satu arah, Tukey dan probit. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanol daun M. alba memiliki aktivitas antimalaria terhadap mencit terinfeksi P. berghei dengan nilai ED50 dari 12,86 mg/kgBB.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman moluska di  Pantai Serangan, Bali. Lokasi penelitian terdiri dari dua lokasi yaitu lokasi pertama berada di depan SMP N 11 Denpasar, sedangkan lokasi kedua berada di Pantai III. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode transek yang dimodifikasi. Penelitian dilaksanakan dari bulan Oktober?Desember 2013. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jumlah spesies moluska yang dijumpai di Pantai Serangan adalah 88 spesies. Tiga spesies diantaranya dijumpai di kedua lokasi penelitian. Pada lokasi di depan SMP N 11 Denpasar, Perna sp. merupakan spesies yang memiliki sebaran terluas dan kepadatan tertinggi. Pada lokasi di Pantai III, Conus planorbis merupakan spesies moluska yang memiliki sebaran terluas dan kepadatan tertinggi. Keanekaragaman moluska di Pantai Serangan khususnya lokasi di depan SMP N 11 Denpasar dan di Pantai III tergolong baik (H>3) dan keseragamannya tergolong baik (E=0,6 dan 0,8).

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine diatom species in Unda River, BadungRiver, Lake Beratan, estuarine and marine waters of Padang Galak, that can be used to indicatedeath scene caused by drowning. Waters collected to 50 liters by using plankton net and carriedin a 25 ml glass bottle. The results of the research found that there were 60 species diatom from26 genera, 23 families, 2 orders, and 1 class. Among the 60 species in this research, can beindicate as 12 species are typical species of Unda River, 5 species are typical species of BadungRiver, 1 species is typical of Lake Beratan, 9 species are typical of Padang Galak Estuary, and 19species are typical to Padang Galak Sea. Among the typical species in every research site, thereare one species that has higher number: Fragilaria sp. 1 in Unda River, Gomphonema sp. 3 inBadung River. Cymbella sp. 3 in Lake Beratan, Cyclotella sp., in Padang Galak Estuarine, andCocconeis sp. 2 in Padang Galak Sea.Keywords: forensic, diatom, river, lake, sea
