Abstract

Potensi Sawo kecik (Manilkara kauki  L. Dubard) sebagai sumber obat alami untuk diare belum terbukti secara ilmiah.Sawo kecik mengandung flavonoid yakni senyawa yang bersifat sebagai antibakteri, sehingga sawo kecik diasumsikan dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri penyebab diare Escherichia coli. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah: 1) untuk menganalisis pengaruh perbedaan konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun dan kulit batang sawo kecik terhadap penghambatan pertumbuhan Escherichia coli secara in vitro, 2) untuk menentukan kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun dan kulit batang sawo kecik dengan variasi konsentrasi yang paling efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan  Escherichia coli    secara  in vitro. Daya antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun dan kulit batang sawo kecik dalam konsentrasi 0%, 5%, 15%, 25%, 35%, 45%,  55%, 65%, 75%, 85%, 95% dan 100% diuji terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli secara in vitro dengan metode difusi agar dengan cara Kirby Bauer Test. Antibiotik Levofloxacin  digunakan sebagai kontrol positif.  Data yang diperoleh dibandingkan dengan kontrol positif dan  dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian ganda. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) perbedaan konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun dan kulit batang sawo kecik berpengaruh terhadap penghambatan pertumbuhan  Escherichia coli  secara in vitro, 2) ekstrak etanol kulit batang sawo kecik pada konsentrasi  55% merupakan kombinasi yang paling efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan  Escherichia coli  dengan rerata diameter zona hambat yang dihasilkan sebesar 12.3 mm (51% terhadap Levofloxacin). Abstract

Metacognitive skill is an important aspect that must be developed and empowered in learning activities because it helps the development of thinking skills as well as its implications on students’ cognitive abilities. Therefore, the learning process should be designed to empowered metacognitive skills. This is a correlational study which aims to find (1) the relationship of metacognitive skills with cognitive abilities of Biology, and (2) the contribution of metacognitive skills on cognitive abilities of Biology on the application of the GI, TTW and GITTW strategies. The population of this study is Muhammadiyah high school students of grade 10th at Surabaya in the 1st academic year 2014/2015 in the science major. Samples were students of grade 10th which consists of six classes determined by random sampling. Data had been collected by conducting pre-test and posttest during the learning process for one semester. Learning instruments used in this study are syllabus, lesson plan (RPP), and students’ worksheet (LKS). All learning devices are using GI, TTW and GITTW strategies. The forms of instruments used are an essay test and cognitive skills rubrics. Metacognitive skills had been measured by metacognitive rubric integrated with cognitive ability test. Data was analysed by correlation and regression techniques. The results of the study showed that there were a significant correlation between metacognitive skills with cognitive abilities of Biology in GI strategy with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.906, the TTW strategies correlation coefficient (r) of 0.951 and the strategies GITTW correlation coefficient (r) of 0.881. Metacognitive skill level of contribution to the cognitive abilities of Biology at GI strategy is 82%, the TTW strategy is 90.5%, and the GITTW strategy is 77.7%.

Abstract

Scabies is itch human skin disease caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var. Hominis. The prevalence ofscabies in boarding school was relative high. That condition must be solves, because is frequentlyassociated with considerable morbidity, difficulties in concentration can lead to poor performance inschool. Therefore, health education is necessary to increase knowledge student, introduce scabies, andmotivated student behavior healthy that prevent spread and control of scabies in boarding school. The aimof this research: 1) describe prevalence scabies in boarding school Malang Raya,2) describe the student knowledge about scabies, 3) describe health education was done in boardingschool. The type of study is survey epidemiologic scabies. Total population is 4233 students with asample of the study were 410 students. The sampling technique on this research was random samplingmethod. The data were collected using interviews, observation and instrument test. The result of thisresearch: 1) the prevalence scabies in boarding school Malang Raya was 37.32%,2) the student knowledge were low, with average 57.73±16.84. The score minimal is 0, and the scoremaximal is 100. 3) Health education in boarding school not variation, and monotone. There was rulesrelated personal hygiene in boarding school. Counseling to promote knowledge students was done bylecture method, answer and question method. Quality of health education must be increased by somestrategy. There was variation method, using media which interest attention student.

Abstract

Biodegradasi dapat menjadi salah satu teknologi pengolahan air limbah yang aman dan berwawasan lingkungan. Secara alamiah, bakteri yang berpotensi dalam proses biodegradasi dapat diisolasi dari limbah itu sendiri. Bakteri inilah yang disebut sebagai bakteri indigen. Sungai Badheg di kota Malang merupakan salah satu sungai yang tercemar limbah pabrik kulit. Hasil uji kualitas air dari sampel menunjukkan kondisi yang tidak memenuhi baku mutu air, yaitu TSS sebesar 400 ppm, BOD sebesar 331 mg/L, COD sebesar 544 mg/L, DO sebesar 3,6 mg/L dan kadar lemak sebesar 280 mg/L. Limbah pabrik kulit memiliki karakteristik yang berbau tajam, berwarna hitam pekat, dan mengandung lemak dalam jumlah yang besar. Lemak diketahui sebagai salah satu bahan organik yang sulit untuk diuraikan secara alamiah. Peran bakteri indigen akan mengoptimalkan proses biodegradasi lemak yang terjadi. Kegiatan biodegradasi dilakukan dengan cara mengintroduksi bakteri indigen yang telah diseleksi dari proses isolasi dan memiliki potensi pendegradasi paling tinggi, kemudian dikultur dan diinokulasikan kembali pada sampel air, sehingga proses transformasi akan berlangsung lebih optimal. Hasil biodegradasi secara in vitro menggunakan bakteri indigen, menunjukkan perubahan TSS sebesar 293ppm, BOD 117 mg/L, COD sebesar 165 mg/L, DO sebesar 19 mg/L dan kadar lemak sebesar 0,02 mg/L. Biodegradasi merupakan cara yang efektif dalam mendegradasi bahan organik, terutama kadar lemak.

Abstract

Heavy metals have been used in various areas around the world especially in the industrial sector. Heavy metals contamination is very dangerous for ecosystem because of its toxicity for some organisms. Cadmium (Cd) is a dangerous metal pollutant that can cause remarkable diverse of toxic effects, in particular for humans and animals. The use of bacteria as bioremediation agents has been widely studied because more efficient, less cost, and environmentally friendly strategy. This present study aimed to isolate and identify Cd-resistant bacteria from the industrial disposal site. Wastewater samples were collected from disposal site of agar flour industry in Lawang Malang, East Java. The collected wastewater effluent was analyzed for physicochemical properties. Isolation of Cd-resistant bacteria was carried out using serial dilution. Bacterial isolates were observed and tested for their effects on the content of Cd. The content of Cd was tested daily using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) for seven consecutive days. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA (p < 0.05) and Tukey test. Characterization of potential bacterium was performed using bacterial identification kit. Four bacteria isolates have been successfully isolated from the wastewater sample. There was a statistically significant difference between groups as determined by one-way ANOVA (F = 1229.62, p = 0.00). A Tukey post hoc test revealed that all conditions are significantly different from each other. The content of Cd in wastewater sample was statistically significantly lower after taking the A isolate (3.39 mg/L, p = 0.00), B Isolate (1.47 mg/L, p = 0.00), C Isolate (1.15 mg/L, p = 0.00), and D isolate (1.95 mg/L, p = 0.00) compared to the control treatment (5.11 mg/L, p = 0.00). Two of the most potential isolates identified as Pseudomonas flourescens (C isolate) and Enterobacter agglomerans (B isolate).

Abstract

Penggunaan obat tradisional sangat disarankan oleh lembaga kesehatan dunia. Obat tradisional memiliki kegunaan yang efektif, tingkat keamanan yang tinggi, serta memiliki nilai ekonomi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menentukan uji kelayakan simplisia kulit batang salam (Syzygium polyanthum) berdasarkan angka kapang. Kemudian disosialisasikan kepada masyarakat ekonomi rendah di kabupaten Malang, sehingga dapat digunakan untuk menambah pengetahuan tentang potensi kulit batang salam sebagai obat tradisonal. Jenis penelitian merupakan penelitian deskripstif laboratorik dengan rancangan deskriptif  kualitatif. Sampel simplisia dilarutkan dalam 90 ml larutan air pepton 0,1% sehingga diperoleh tingkat pengenceran 10-1. Larutan diencerkan secara bertahap, sehingga diperoleh tingkat pengeneran 10-2, 10-3, 10-4, 10-5, 10-6. kemudian dilakukan inokulasi masing-maisng larutan sampel tersebut sebanyak 0,1 ml pada medim Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA), lalu diinokulasikan pada suhu 250C-270C selama 3 x 24 jam. Perlakuan dilakukan dalam 6 ulangan, selanjutnya dilakukan penentuan koloni angka kapang. Hasil perhitungan koloni angka kapang dirujuk pada ketentuan batas minimal cemaran kapang menurut Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) 2014 ialah ≤ 104 koloni/ gram. Jadi hasil perhitungan pada simplisia kulit batang salam adalah 0,3 x 101 berarti simplisia kulit batang salam memenuhi syarat dari ketetapan BPOM 2014. Selanjutnya dilakukan sosialisasi kepada masyarakat ekonomi rendah di kabupaten Malang.

Abstract

Penelitian dan pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan bahan ajar IPA berbasis inkuiri untuk kelas V SD. Bahan ajar iniberupa bahan ajar siswa dan pegangan guru berbasis inkuiri yang sahih atau valid, efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar dan keterampilan proses sains siswa dan praktis digunakan oleh siswa dan guru. Peneliti mengembangkan bahan ajar menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan modifikasi Borg and Gall (2003). Adapun tahapan yang dilalui terdiri dari 6 langkah, yakni: 1) studi pendahuluan; 2) perencanaan; 3) pengembangan; 4) validasi; 5) uji coba; 6) produk akhir.Hasil validasi ahli bahan ajar IPA berbasis inkuiri mendapatkan perolehan sebesar 97.56% terhadap isi/materi, 92.39% terhadap bahasa, dan 81.25% terhadap desain bahan ajar. Hasil uji coba kelas terbatas menunjukkan perolehan hasil belajar siswa sebesar 88.7 dan 100% siswa telah mencapai KKM, serta persentase keterampilan proses sains siswa sebesar 78.51%. Selain itu persentase kepraktisan yang diperoleh adalah 89.59% bagi siswa dan 92.85% bagi guru. Berdasarkan paparan data tersebut, bahan ajar IPA berbasis inkuiri layak digunakan karena telah dikategorikan sangat valid, efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar dan keterampilan proses siswa, serta praktis digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran IPA pada kelas Vb di SDN 4 Praya. Kata Kunci: bahan ajar, IPA, inkuiri, hasil belajar, keterampilan proses sains

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is known as toxic element in environment. It is produced from processing of Agar Flour industry activities. Enhancement of Pb in the waste water of agar flour is very dangerous for human health. Effect of lead damage some organ e.g. kidney, liver, and hair. Environment standard of lead concentration on waste water based on Governor of East Java Regulation No. 72 of 2013 is 1 mg.L-1, otherwise, initial lead levels of waste water are 3.114 mg.L-1. The aim of the research is reducing the level of lead to be harmless for the environment. One method to decrease a high concentration of lead in waste water is biosorption. Consortia of Bacillus alvei and Bacillus pumilus as indigenous bacteria are used to decrease Pb level in the wastewater. The experiment was carried out with varies of wastewater concentration and bacteria 3 %, 4%, 5%, 6%, and 7%. Consortium of B. alvei dan B. pumilus at 7 % concentration have the highest potency 93.58 % to reduce lead reach 0.2 mg.L-1.Keywords: Bacteria, Consortia, Concentration, Pb, Waste of Agar Flour

Abstract

Mata kuliah evolusi merupakan salah satu mata kuliah yang dianggap sulit oleh mahasiswa, sulitnya pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap konsep evolusi disebabkan oleh beberapa masalah sehingga perlu dilakukan beberapa observasi terhadap komponen-komponen dalam proses pembelajaran Evolusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis Keterampilan Berpikir mahasiswa terhadap Mata Kuliah Evolusi di Universitas Sulawesi Barat Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey dengan cara penyebaran angket dan pemberian tes untuk mengetahui pengetahuan mahasiswa tentang konsep evolusi. Berdasarkan survey yang dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa STKIP Yapim Maros Program Pendidikan Biologi dengan 36 orang responden menunjukkan bahwa Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Mahasiswa STKIP Yapim Maros. Berdasarkan hasil analisis yang didapatkan, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir mahasiswa biologi STKIP Yapim Maros terhadap mata kuliah Evolusi masih rendah. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukanpembenahan dalam penelitian lanjutan.Kata kunci: Berpikir Kritis, Evolusi, Pembelajaran

Abstract

The aims of this study are to describe the learning process in animal structure courses and learning outcomes obtained by students of Biology Education Study Program, Teachers Training and Education Faculty, Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya after attending lectures. The research method used is survey data collection using a questionnaire. As many as 60 students who have attended and graduated in animal structure lectures in the 4th semester of the 2014/2015 academic year were used as research samples. Samples were taken using simple random sampling technique from a population of 90 students. Then the data obtained is processed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study show that students have an interest in animal structure courses, especially in practical activities. The implementation of learning in animal structure courses has not been carried out optimally. The indication is from the non-socialization of the learning model used by lecturers which has an impact on various generic skills that are not maximally trained and developed.
