Abstract

The purpose of this research was to formulate alternative strategy that can be applied in developing rabbit farming in Soppeng Regency. The research was carried out from January 2011 to February 2011 in Lalabata Sub District, Soppeng Regency.  The experiment was a descriptive study in which samples were taken purposively.  Experimental data were analysed using SWOT analysis. The result research indicated that some strategies that might be developed, including 1) to extent market segment for rabbit, 2) to develop excellence breeding of rabbit, 3) to intensify the extension regarding nutritive value of rabbit meat and a better management for rabbit farming.

Abstract

The research aimed to 1) identify transaction cost in small holder dairy farm operating either under partnership or independent system, 2) analyze the influence of transaction cost for dairy cattle business system, in South Sulawesi. The research was carried out from November 2009 to March 2010 at two different regions based on the farming system practiced, namely for partnership system in Sinjai Regency and for independent system in Enrekang Regency. Descriptive analysis was applied to identify the first aim of study and the logic model was adopted to analyze the second one. For the latter, 30 farmers for each system were deeply interviewed. The results of this research showed that (1) transaction cost of partnership system was lower than that of independent system, (2) transaction cost, particularly transportation cost, had significant influence on partnership system.   Key words: Transaction cost,  Business system, Dairy cattle

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pendapatan pendapatan peternak ayam ras pedaging pada sistem kemitraan berbeda . Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kecamatan Tellusiattinge pada bulan Maret hingga Mei 2013 dengan jenis penelitian adalah deskriptif dan analisis data yang digunakan yaitu Pendapatan= Penerimaan-Biaya. Abstract

This study aimed to identify the characteristics and selling price of livestock as well as characteristics of buffaloes which determine the selling price in Sumbang Village, Curio Sub district, Enrekang District. The type of study was descriptive using the snowball method in determining the number of samples.Descriptive analysis was used to identify the characteristics of buffaloes in relation to their selling price. The results of study indicated  that the characteristics of buffaloes were determined according to the horns, feathers whirl position, skin color, feather color and physical conditions. These characteristics would dictate the selling price of the buffaloes, whichranged between IDR.12,000,000.- and IDR. 53,000,000.-.

Abstract

The advantage of integration of corn and cattle has been promoted through demonstration plot and other extension ways. However, the rate of its adoption is still low and not widely accepted. The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that thwort of farmers from adopting the corn and cattle integration system. Survey method was used in this research and was conducted at Maros (glatinous corn production centre), Gowa district (Sweet corn production centre) and Takalar district (yellow and sweet corn production centre). Data collection were carried out using delphie method with three stages. First stage was to explore the factors that thwort of farmer from adopting the technology using FGD.  FGDs were conducted with key informants such as farmers who plant corn and cattle and extension agents.  Second and third stages were to reduce the factors into five most important factors.  The result showed that the inhibiting factor in adopting utilization of corn stalk for animal feeding in Maros regency was lack of feed storehouse, in Takalar Regency was the lack of knowledge in preserving corn stalk and in Gowa was the availability of many other feed resources.  The barrier to adoption of the use of manure as organic fertilizer was the lack of knowledge in composting (in Gowa and Takalar) and the cost of manure processing (in Maros).

Abstract

Buffaloes is an animal livestock that potentially developed in Sumbang village, district of Curio Enrekang because Enrekang has enough land to be used as an area for grazing and as feed resources as well as the area immediately adjacent to the area of Toraja, a district in which buffaloes are using as a means of ritual in tradition ceremonies. However, the buffaloes livestock business scale is still small-scale farm, i.e. 2-3 buffaloes per household. Buffalo’s livestock business development is influenced by characteristics of the breeder. This research aimed to determine the correlation between characteristics of breeders (age, education, breeding experience, and the number of family) and livestock business scale in Sumbang village, district of Curio, Enrekang regency. The type of this research was an explanatory quantitative, a kind of research that explaining the correlation, examining the correlation between the breeder characteristics and the business scale. Data were collected using questionnaire and were analyzed using statistical software of SPSS 15 for windows. Breeder characteristic that was significantly correlate with buffaloes livestock business scale was breeder experience (P< 0.05) while age, education, and number of family dependent was not significantly correlated.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the work time spent by female rabbit breeders and factors influencing the work time spent to raise rabbits in Soppeng, South Sulawesi. The research used survey method with female rabbit breeders as analysis unit. Population of 356 female rabbit breeders in Soppeng was used and a sample of 78 female rabbit breeders were selected by region. The result of the research showed that average work time of female rabbit breeders was 3.044 hours per day, which was spent cleaning cages and equipment, preparing feedstuffs and feeding on rabbits, assisting bunnies breastfeed to their mother and health care. The F-test results reveal that the most significantly influential factors affecting female rabbit breeders work time was household income, number of dependents, rabbit breeding income, and the level of experience in breeding rabbits.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the contract of broiler partnership farming system in the Province of South Sulawesi in conjunction to the Law No. 5, 1999 regarding prohibition on monopolistic and unfair business competition. This research was carried out from August 2013 till October 2013 in Maros and Gowa Districts of South Sulawesi. All broiler farmers were treated as the population of the study and farmers having contract with any company in the region were taken as the samples giving total number of sample was 50 farmers. The results of study showed that the implementation of partnership was in line with the contract. However, there were some points of the contract which were not well implemented by both parties, such as the late harvest time and the late payment in which these did not comply with the Law No. 5, 1999.
