Abstract

The fruits or seeds of Keben (Barringtonia asiatica L. Kurz) were used traditionally for fish poisons, to curvestomach and headeach. The aim of this research was to isolate and identify bioactive compound of n-butanolfraction of active compound against Artemia salina Leach larvae. Isolation and purification of n-butanol fractionwere carried out by column chomatography (SiO2, CHCl3-MeOH) and high pressure liquid chromatography (RP,MeOH). The result of purification was than tested using BSLT methode. The test showed that, BABU-2.4 had thehighest activity with LC 50 value was 30.19 ppm. BABU-2.4 was identified with FT-IR spectrophotometer and NMR(proton and carbon) spectrophotometer as derivate of glicoside.

Abstract

erbal products in powder or capsule forms made of sarang semut plant have been widely distributed in market.This plant is believed to treat several diseases, such as cancer, gout, liver, stroke, heart, hemorrhoid, back pain,allergy, and as tonicum to increase sexual desire. Information on the plants was still limited on plant distribution,ecology, ethnobotany, and taxonomy, without research on toxicity and clinical aspect. Considering that sarangsemut products has been distributed at market and limited scientific publication of the plant, hence acute toxicitytest of sarang semut extract should be conducted. The results showed that dose of 375 mg/kg bw caused liverdegeneration on day-5 and normal on day-19. Whereas dose of 3750 mg/kg bw caused cell necrosis up to day-12,degeneration still apparent on day-26.

Abstract

Antioksidan merupakan topik yang menarik karena kemampuannya dalam meredam radikal bebas dan mencegah kerusakan akibat oksidasi. Kapang endofit adalah salah satu sumber senyawa antioksidan di alam. Rendahnya hasil dalam memperoleh senyawa antioksidan dari kapang membuka peluang untuk mencari komposisi media dan kondisi pertumbuhan yang optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kondisi media yang meliputi sumber karbon dan nitrogen serta pH awal fermentasi yang berbeda terhadap aktivitas antioksidan kapang endofit Bo.Ci.Cl.A3. Metode fermentasi yang digunakan ialah fermentasi goyang dengan kecepatan 120 rpm pada suhu ruang selama 14 hari. Sumber karbon yang digunakan ialah glukosa, sukrosa, dan pati. Sedangkan sumber nitrogen yang digunakan ialah NaNO3, NH4NO3, dan yeast extract. Kondisi pH awal yang digunakan ialah pH 5, 7, dan 9 dengan etil asetat sebagai bahan ekstraksi. Hasil yang didapatkan yaitu kapang endofit mampu menghasilkan senyawa metabolit sekunder antioksidan pada semua variasi media fermentasi yang digunakan. Sumber nitrogen yeast extract dapat meningkatkan aktivitas antioksidan kapang endofit Bo.Ci.Cl.A3, sedangkan sumber nitrogen, sumber karbon, dan pH awal yang berbeda dari media basal yang digunakan tidak memberikan peningkatan aktivitas antioksdian. Sehingga kesimpulannya ialah bahwa penggantian sumber nitrogen berupa yeast extract (3g/L) pada medium basal Czapek Dox’s Broth dapat meningkatkan kemampuan aktivitas antioksidan kapang endofit Bo.Ci.Cl.A3.

Abstract

Malaria is a common disease caused by infection of Plasmodium spp. Based on retrievals in library reference it has been discovered that a number of chemical compounds, isolated from fruit-bearing plants, contain anti-protozoic active substances. These compounds are, among others, found in chemical structures of alkaloide, terpene, quinone, and phenolic. Research on traditional medicinal plants is required to investigate their potential for antimalarial drug. Study on the chemical structure of the bioactive compounds produced by plants is also important to obtain new drugs which may be more useful.

Abstract

Kunyit (Curcuma longa) merupakan tanaman obat tradisional yang biasa digunakan sebagai bumbu masakan dan sebagai bahan obat meliputi antimikroba, antioksidan,antitumor, dan anti inflamasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antimikroba dan antioksidan dari beberapa organ tanaman kunyit meliputi akar, rimpang, batang, dan daun. Semua bagian diekstraksi dengan etanol dan etil asetat. Seluruh ekstrak etanol dan etil asetat diuji aktivitas antimikrobanya menggunakan metode difusi cakram kertas terhadap Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, dan Candida albicans. Kloramfenikol dan nistatin masing-masing digunakan sebagai kontrol positif untuk uji antibakteri dan antijamur, sedangkan masing-masing pelarut untuk ekstraksi juga digunakan sebagai kontrol negatif. Aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan menggunakan metode 1,1-difenil-2pikril hidrazil (DPPH) dan asam askorbat digunakan sebagai standar. Hasil aktivitas antimikroba menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etil asetat dari daun dan batang memiliki aktivitas penghambatan tertinggi terhadap S. aureus, ekstrak etil asetat dari akar dan batang memiliki aktivitas penghambatan tertinggi terhadap E. coli, dan ekstrak etil asetat dari daun memilikiaktivitas penghambatan tertinggi terhadap C. albicans. Ekstrak etil asetat dari rimpangmemiliki aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi diantara ekstrak lainnya.

Abstract

Abstract                Some reports indicated a great variety of pharmacological activities of kunyit, Curcuma longa  L. which exhibit anti-inflamatory, anti virus, anti bacteria, antioxidant, nematocidal activities, etc. Curcuminoids are major compounds in Curcuma longa  L responsible for the biological activity. Abstract

Fermentasi mikroba endofit dari tannaman kina (Cinchona pubescens Vahl.) dalam medium Phoma telah dilakukan. Hasil fermentasi selama 8 hari diekstraksi dengan diklormetan diperoleh asam lemak yaitu asam oleat dalam bentuk cis. Hasil ini dipertegas oleh spectra RMI (proton dan karbon) dan spektramassa (GC-MS).

Abstract

Insecticidal potential of eleven species of Aglaia (Meliaceae) was evaluated in the laboratory against the cabbage cluster caterpillar, Crocidolomia binotalis. The feeding treatment of second-instar larvae C. binotalis for 48 hours with ethanol twig extract of A. odorata at 0.5% caused 98.7% larval mortality; leaf and twig extracts of A. elaeagnoidea caused 17.3% and 6.7% mortality, respectively; twig extracts of A. argentea, A. formosana, and A. latifolia caused only 1.3% mortality each; whereas extracts of the other six Aglaia species were inactive (0% mortality). Further tests with A. odorata showed that twigs gave the most active extract compared to other plant parts (leaves, flowers, and roots), and air-drying of plant materials for 2 weeks markedly decreased the activity of the derived extracts. The active extracts also delayed the development of surviving larvae in similar degree to the level of their lethal effect. LC50 of ethyl acetate fraction of A. odorata twig extract and its main active compound, rocaglamide, against C. binotalis larvae were 310.2 and 31.4 ppm, respectively. This active compound was about 8.7 times less potent than azadirachtin (LC50 3.6 ppm).Key words: Aglaia, botanical insecticides, Crocidolomia binotalis

Abstract

Identification of antibacterial compounds from cendana wood extract against Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, Kleibsiella sp. and Staphylococcus aureus had been conducted. Abstract

In continuing of chemical study research on the parts of the fruits of Mahkota dewa, we have done isolated one antioxidant compound benzophenon glycoside from n-butanol extract. Isolation and purification by column chromatography (SiO2, chloroform-methanol) and determination of chemical structure based on interpretation spectra of ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance 1 dimension (1H & 13C NMR), 2 dimension (1H-1H COSY, 13C-1H COSY, HMBC).
