Abstract

Mikromorfologi merupakan salah satu cabang ilmu dalam ilmu tanah. Dalam studi mikromorfologi, contoh tanah terlebih dahulu disiapkan sebagai suatu irisan tipis (dengan berbagai metoda), kemudian fenomena yang ada di dalamnya diperiksa menggunakan mikroskop. Dengan mengetahui susunan,bentuk, orientasi, pol a distribusi, struktur dll, fenomena yang terjadi dapat diinterpretasi, baik mengenai komposisi tanah, hubungan antar komponen maupun dinamika proses yang telah,sedang atau diperkirakan akan terjadi di dalam tanah. Dengan demikian, mikromorfologi dapat dan sangat prospektif pula untuk dikembangkan dan diterapkan bagi berbagai penggunaan diluar bidang ilmu tanah.

Abstract

Chemical and physical characteristic of zeolite are use not only as nutrient absorber to increases fertilizer efficiency, but also as compost mixing for plant growth media or compost humidity regulator. This agriculture advantages specially to increases nitrogen fertilizer efficiency. Many efforts carried out to minimize ammonia lost from nitrogen fertilizer, one of the alternatives is using zeolite through the process of making slow release fertilizer. As a mineral with the high rate of cation exchange capacity, zeolite have the ability to absorb ammonium ion, so it will increases nitrogen fertilizer efficiency by mixing zeolite with fertilizer or spreading zeolite into the fields. Zeolite urea capsules use on paddy plant on several regions on West Java showing production increasing and nitrogen fertilizer efficiency increases. Zeolite use as vegetables plant media showing a quite well result. Furthermore zeolite reduces heavy metal take over from the food chain. With these results zeolite have a big role in increasing agriculture production.

Abstract

Zeolite minerals in the past 20 years have been used n many aspect of agriculture, industry and environmental protection. Application of zeolites commercially depends on one or more of their physical and chemical characteristics. Natural zeolites are obtained as tuff rocks together with other minerals with the variation in their composition. Separation of the mineral is very difficult with any chemical process. In order to guarantee the quality of natural zeolites as a commercial product, we need to establish national standard of zeolites. Properties of zeolite such as particle size, mineral compositions, chemical properties and other properties need to be standardized.

Abstract

Agricultural extensification effort in Indonesia are almost always accompanied by a problem of low productivity land. This problem is caused by physical or chemical properties of the land, such as cation exchange capacity, base, pH, nutrient availability, and low water absorbtion capacity, while Al and Fe saturation are relatively high. Utilization of zeolite mineral is an alternative method besides lime in order to improve land quality, and to increase agricultural production. The aim of this research is to identify characteristics of zeolite from some deposits that have high relation to its uses as a cation - exchange substance or as an absorbent of water and nutrients. Zeolite of Bayah has the highest purity compare with that of Bojong and Gunung Dewi. The best heating - activation result according to X-ray diffractogram and zeolite CEC is the temperature between 150 - 300C, while dealumination-activation with HCI of0.2 - 0.5 N can improve zeolite capability as a cation exchange substance. Fraction coarser than 28 mesh to 60 mesh gives better utilization than that of finer ones. Fraction of 48 mesh with 150 - 300C heat treatment gives the highest absoptive capacity to water.
