Abstract

Sasanti & Yulisman. 2012. Growth and Persistence of Snakehead Fry Treated with Feed from Snail Flour. JLSO 1(2):158-162. An experiment was conducted to observe the effects of feed from snail flour on the growth and survival rate of snakehead fish (Channa striata)fry. There were three treatments, each had three replications, stocked with 20 fry. The three diets treatments were artificial feed A with 35% snail flour, artificial feed B with 40% snail flour and artificial feed C with 45% snail flour. Snail flour was made from Pomacea sp. Survival and growth rate of fry were not significantly different among the three different treatments.

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria were known has a potential for biopreservative and maintaining the safety of food products. The purpose of this research was to obtain lactic acid bacteria that capable to inhibit harmful bacteria in fisheries products. The stages of the methods were isolation of lactic acid bacteria from the digestive tract tilapia and frigate tuna with MRS agar + CaCO3, antibacterial test against Bacillus subtilis, Morganella morganii, and Escherichia coli using agar well diffusion method and test the alleged strengthening  lactic acid bacteria. The results showed that there were two isolates of lactic acid bacteria that have the greatest inhibitory for harmful bacteria tested.Key words: antibacterial, biopreservative, inhibitor harmful bacteria, lactic acid  bacteria

Abstract

Pathogenic Vibrio, especially luminous Vibrio harveyi, could cause mass mortality in tiger shrimp culture. One of the technique to work against luminous Vibrio is, using probiotic bacteria to inhibit the luminous Vibrio growth. This study was carried out to obtain bacteria isolates from coral reef which potentially inhibit V. harveyi growth. A total of 110 isolates were isolated from Acropora sp, Merulina sp, Hystrix sp., Poecillophora sp, Porites sp and Haliophora sp., and have probiotic activity against V. harveyi in in vitro and in vivo test.Of the total 110 isolates, 54 isolates show the inhibiting zone. Two isolates(8A and 1C)were not pathogenic and have the most effective activity in inhibiting growth of V. harveyi and significantly reduced larval mortality in in vitro and in vivo test. Treatment using probiotics candidate have significant different survival rate (83.33%) compared with positive control (61.67%). The growth rate of lenght of larvae treatment with isolate of 8A (5.25%) and 1C (5.06%) show the significant different compared with positive control (3.54%). The growth rate of weight of larvae treatment withisolate of 8A (17.51%) and 1C (17.61%) show significant different compared with negative (15.27%) and positive control (14.69%).Key word: coral reef, probiotic, tiger shrimp, vibriosis, V. harveyi. ABSTRAKVibrio patogen, khususnya Vibrio harveyi berpendar, dapat menyebabkan kematian massal pada budidaya udang windu. Salah satu alternatif untuk menghambat Vibrio harveyi berpendar adalah dengan menggunakan bakteri probiotik yang dapat menekan pertumbuhan Vibrio tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan isolat bakteri dari terumbu karang yang potensial menghambat pertumbuhan V. harveyi. Total 110 isolat diisolasi dari Acropora sp, Merulina sp., Hystrix sp., Poecillophora sp., Porites sp. dan Haliophora sp, dilakukan penapisan untuk melihat aktivitas kemampuannya melawan V. harveyi MR 5339 RfR dalam uji in vitro dan uji in vivo. Sebanyak 54 isolat teridentifikasi mampu menghasilkan zona hambat. Dua isolat (8A dan 1C) terbukti tidak bersifat patogen dan memiliki aktivitas probiotik melawan V. harveyi MR 5339 RfR pada uji in vitro dan in vivo. Tingkat kelangsungan hidup larva pada perlakuan yang diberi kandidat probiotik dari kedua isolat tersebut adalah 83,33%, dan menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda nyata dengan kontrol positif (61,67%). Laju pertumbuhan panjang larva yang diberi isolat 8A (5,25%) dan 1C (5,06%)menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda nyatajika dibandingkan dengan kontrolpositif (3,54%). Laju pertumbuhan bobot yang diberi isolat 8A (17,51%) dan 1C (17,61%) menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda nyata terhadap kontrol negative (15,27%) dan kontrol positif (14,69%).Kata kunci: probiotik, terumbu karang,udang windu, V. harveyi, vibriosis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aims of this research were to study the effects of probiotics on feed conversion, growth rate, survival rate of snakehead fry, bacterial populations in fish snakehead fry and also to measure the best concentrate of probiotics for growth rate, feed conversion, survival of snakehead fry and bacterial populations on fish snakehead’s intestine. This study use  completely randomized design with different levels of probiotic treatments that consisted of six treatments and three replications. The treatments were P0 (without probiotics), P1 (2.5 ml. Kg-1 feed), P2 (5 ml. Kg-1 feed), P3 (7.5 ml. Kg-1 feed), P4 (10 ml. Kg-1 feed) and P5 (12.5 ml. Kg-1 feed).Base on the research of probiotics EM-4 on the fish snakehead fry, the feed conversion value is not significantly affected by giving probiotik. lowest feed conversion value is 1.11 and the highest feed conversion value of 1.55. Growth rate, of the highest growth rate of 3.71 %/day 2.14 %/day is the lowest weight. The highest growth of length is 1.93 %/day and the lowest is 1.74 %/day.  Meanwhile, Highest survival value by 40% and the lowest was 13.3%. In the bacterial population, there were addition of bacterial population Lactobacillus sp. and  decrease the populations of Aeromonas sp. and Pseudomonas sp.   Keywords: probiotics, feed conversion, population bacteria, growth and survival rate

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to determine the chromosomes number of snakehead fish (Channa striata) from floodplain area, highland swamp, and tidal land. The research has done on December 2013 until January 2014 at Laboratorium Pengembangbiakan dan Genetika Ikan, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fishries and Marine Science, Bogor Agricultural Institute, Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan dan Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Study Program of Aquaculture, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya  University and Laboratorium Fisiologis Hewan, Mathematics and Natural Science Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The research was conducted by means of direct observation and analyzed descriptive through making preparations chromosome squash methods. The results showed no difference in diploid (2n) chromosome number of snakehead fish floodplain area as much ranges 40-42, highland swamps ranges 36-40 and tidal land ranges 38-40 and it can be concluded that the chromosomes amount of snakehead fish           between 36-42.   Keywords : Channa striata, Chromosome, Floodplain area, Highland swamp, Tidal Land

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the chemical characteristics and the potential utilization of D.salina and Nannochloropsis sp. The research has been conducted from December 2010 until April 2012 in Technology Of Fishery Product Laboratory, Aquaculture Laboratory, Bioprocess Laboratory University of Sriwijaya and Integrated Laboratory Bogor Agricultural University. The parameters observed were biomass dry weight, proximate (moisture content, ash content,  protein content, fat content, and total carbohydrate content), carotenoid, and amino acids. Proximate composition of Nannochloropsis sp. obtained in this research were 58.00% ash content, moisture content 12.39%, protein content 16.17%, fat content 0.30%, total carbohydrate content 19.08%, total carotenoids 0.27 ppm, and essential amino acids (histidine, threonine, arginine , methionine, phenylalanine, valine, isoleucine, and leucine) and non-essential amino acids (aspartic acid, glutamic acid, serine, glycine, alanine, and tyrosine). As for the sample D.salina were the ash content 58.29%, water content 15.58%, protein content 17.08%, fat content 0.003%, total carbohydrate content 15.07%, total carotenoids 0.19 ppm, and essential amino acids (histidine , threonine, arginine, methionine, phenylalanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, and lysine) and non-essential amino acids (aspartic acid, glutamic acid, serine, glycine, alanine, and tyrosine). From the results of data analysis and chemical characteristics of dry weight D.salina and Nannochloropsis sp. obtained in this study, biomass produced this research has the chemical characteristics of lower quality than the quality requirements of microalgae as an industrial raw material of food, feed, biodiesel and bioethanol.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Silk worm is one of natural feeds for snakehead fry. The availability of silk worm could be a problem for snakehead culture in big scale. One of the solution is trash fish utilization to reduce silk worm. The purpose of this research was to determine the best of feeding period to replace silk worm with trash fish based on growth and feed efficiency of snakehead fry. This research was conducted on July until September 2015 in Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Program Study of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. The research was based on Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatmens and three replications. The treatments are snakehead 21-51 days were fed by silk worm (P1), snakehead 21-41 days were fed by silk worm and 40-51 days by trash fish (P2), snakehead 21-36 days were fed by silk worm and 35-51 days by trash fish (P3), snakehead 21-31 days were fed by silk worm and 30-51 days by trash fish (P4), and snakehead 21-51 days were fed by trash fish (P5). The results showed that feeding period between silk worm and trash fish had no significant different on growth and feed efficiency of snakehead fry. The result indicated that trash fish can be utilized for feeding of snakehead fry age 21 until 51 days (P5). Water quality during the research were temperature 25-290C, ammonia 0.11-0.29 mg.L-1, dissolved oxygen 4.44-6.88 mg.L-1, and pH 5.3-7.2. Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the best immertion duration to increase growth rate of snakehead fish larva. The research was conducted in Fish Breeding unit Batanghari Sembilan Indralaya, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with five treatments (0, 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours of immertion), with three replications. The parameters observed were growth, survival rate and water quality. The results of  this research show that the highest growth rate found in the 24 hours of treatment  with the average value of 0.17 g of weight and increase in length of 1.90 cm. The best survival contained in treatment of immersion for 36 hours with the average value of 71.67%.
