Abstract

Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teknik pewarnaan standardan khusus, impregnasi perak Grimelius, untukmenggambarkan morfologi komparasi pankreas kambing dandomba lokal dengan tinjauan khusus pada distribusi danfrekuensi sel-sel penghasil hormon glukagon pada bagianendokrin pankreas. Pankreas domba mempunyai lobulasiyang lebih jelas daripada pankreas kambing ditandai dengansepta interlobaris yang jelas, tetapi batas antara bagianendokrin (pulau Langerhans) dan bagian eksokrin tidak jelaspada domba. Sebaliknya pankreas kambing mempunyaibagian endokrin yang jelas batasnya dengan bagian eksokrin.Pulau Langerhans tersebar diantara eksokrin pankreas,dengan frekuensi terbanyak didapatkan pada pankreas bagiankanan (head), diikuti bagian kiri (tail) dan tengah (body).Pankreas kambing mempunyai bagian endokrin yang lebihbanyak dibanding dengan pankreas domba. Sel-sel penghasilhormon glukagon pada pankreas berbentuk polimorfik, bulat,oval, segitiga atau seperti tetes air dengan butir-butirsitoplasma yang terletak bipolar. Sel-sel ini berdistribusipada bagian perifer dari pulau Langerhans. Jumlah sel-selglukagon berbanding lurus dengan jumlah pulau Langerhanspada pankreas. Perbedaan yang diamati, mencakupperbedaan morfologis, sebaran serta jumlah pulauLangerhans dan sel-sel glukagon, sangat mungkindisebabkan oleh perbedaan dalam jenis dan pola makankedua hewan tersebut.

Abstract

        Medaka fish (Oryzias sp) or also known as "rice fish" are non-consumption fish or ornamental fish that are in great demand by humans. Medaka fish is an animal model that is very well known and has been widely used by researchers in the world for studies in various fields of science, especially biology and medicine, as well as Zebras which have been developed as model animals. Medaka fish also used as animal models for testing Parkinson's disease caused by environmental pollution and genetic factors. Several types of mutant medaka fish have also been made for screening diabetes, cancer and other degenerative diseases.                    From the exploration results, the researchers showed that Sulawesi has a high endemism especially for the family Adrianichthyidae. The high endemism is not only supported by zoogeographic boundaries as islands located on the Weber line and Wellacea lines, but also because of this fish that are traded so that the chance of migrating this fish is small. These facts underlie the statements of several researchers that fish medaka can reveal the mystery of the evolution of aquatic fauna in Sulawesi.                    As an effort to develop Sulawesi Medaka fish (Oryzias celebensis) as a model animal, studies have been conducted with various histology studies with various staining methods in Sulawesi medaka fish so that Hasanuddin University is expected to be a gateway for researchers to obtain information about Medaka fish in the Sulawesi islands and as a center for learning fish medaka.

Abstract

Infertility in cat becomes a serious problem in pet community since many compounds of infertility-caused can be found widely in the environment. One of the compounds causing infertility in mammals is Bisphenol-A (BPA), which is known as an estrogenic compound. The purpose of this research is to observe the changes in testicular histology of male domestic cat (Felis domestica) induced by BPA orally. Sample used in this study were 24 male domestic cats divided into 4 groups, namely the group 1 as control, group 2, 3 and 4 were treated with BPA about 5, 10 and 100 mg/kg bodyweight, respectively for 5 days. The results showed that the estrogenic effect of BPA affects the reproductive system of the cat. The effects of BPA in cat included decrease in the amounts of spermatozoa, vacuolization of seminiferous tubules cells, degeneration of Leydig cells, degeneration of tubular epithelial cells,? irregular forms of the germ, interstitial tissue hemorrhage, debris cell filled the lumen of seminiferous tubules. These results suggested that BPA can be harmful to the reproductive system of the cat

Abstract

This study aims to determinate the effect of combination golden snail powder and fermented coconut cake on quality of duck eggs. We were using experimental feeds combination form golden snail powder and fermented coconut cake as raw material for livestock rearing for duck. This research was conducted in July - September 2018 in Mangkoso Village, Barru Regency and continued with sample testing at the Laboratory Animal Husbandry Faculty of Livestock Product Technology University of Hasanuddin. This study used 16 female duck who are 20 weeks old with four types of treatments consists of four replications of each treatment. The egg quality was carried out using a sample of 16 eggs from Ducks which was maintained and treated with different rations. The data obtained were analyzed using variance analysis with a Completely Randomized test for significant different results. The results of the combination of golden snail powder and fermented coconut cake on egg color, egg white index, egg yolk index, haugh unit (HU) value of egg units. All treatments (P1, P2, P3) gave effect to three parameters, namely eggshell quality, egg yolk index and egg yolk color, while the other three parameters namely egg weight, egg white index and Haugh Unit (HU) value did not differ significantly from negative controls. The best treatment was shown by treatment P3 which gave an effect on the heavier egg weight than other treatments, eggshell quality grade A, Egg White Index and Egg Yolk Index showed good quality and bright golden egg yolks.?

Abstract

Background and Objective: Iguana breeders usually used red spinach as a feed for iguanas. However, several studies have indicated that red spinach contains oxalate and purine which are harmful if consumed at a certain level because they can interfere with kidney function. This study aimed to investigate the change of anatomy and histology of green iguana (Iguana iguana) kidney after feeding with red spinach. Materials and methods: Twelve iguanas were used in this study and were divided into four groups in accordance to the dose level of red spinach (100%, 75%, 50% and 25%, namely group I to IV, respectively). The red spinach was given for 30 days through the nasogastric intubation. The effect of red spinach administration was observed through the anatomy and histological changes. The results were statistically analyzed with One Way ANOVA with p<0.05 was considered significant, and Post Hoc Test. The histopathology change of the kidney was analyzed descriptively. Results: The administration of red spinach in iguanas caused some anatomy changes of the kidney; such as the enlargement of iguana?s kidney. The histological findings included the enlargement of the glomerulus, capsular space constriction, hydropic degeneration, tubular dilation, necrosis, and formation of connective tissue (fibrosis), uric acid crystal sediment (gout), oxalate crystal, and lymphocyte infiltration. Among four different dose levels of red spinach, 100% of red spinach caused the highest damage to the iguana?s kidney. The significant change grew as the increasing dose of red spinach that was given to the green iguanas? bodies. Conclusion:? Red spinach caused changes in anatomy structure as well as kidney histology of green iguanas. Severe damages occurred in the treatment group III, moderate damage occurredin the treatment group II, and light damage occurred in the treatment group I.?Keywords: Green iguana, Red spinach, Kidney, Anatomy Change, Histology Change

Abstract

Contraception is a way to prevent the fusion of mature egg cell and sperm during the intercourse, so the fertilization will not occur. Some contraceptive methods in small animals have been evolved. This research aimed to determine the effects of kapok seed (Ceiba pentandra Gaertn) extract as contraception agent to the quality of spermatozoain domestic cats. The animals were divided into four group with each group consisted of six male cats. Group I, II, III was designated as the treatment groups and IV as the control group. The cats were given the emulsion of kapok seeds extract orally with concentration of 0,1%? b/v, 0,71 mg/kg BB, 0,36 mg/kg BB and 0,21 mg/kg BB doses. This study used Randomized Complete Random Design (RAL) design from sperm quality data and used ANOVA statistic test. The result showed that the concentration of sperm decreased in the treatment groups compared with the control group. Statistically, the sperm concentration decreased significantly (P < 0,05) between the control group and treatment groups. The average motility in low and medium doses was above 40% while it was below than 40% in the high doses group. Based on the results, the granting of kapok seed extract inhibited the viability of spermatozoa of cats with significant results (P < 0,05). Sperm abnormalities in this study was obtained from the control group with percentage average of 1 % , while it was significantly increased in the treatment groups marked by abnormalities in the shape of the head and tail of the spermatozoa. These results suggested that kapok seed extract can be used as one of the contraceptive agents in domestic cat (Felis domestica) because it can decrease the sperm quality significantly.

Abstract

Broiler chickens or broilers are the cheapest source of animal protein that can be obtained apart from eggs. The high demand for broiler chicken meat is fulfilled because modern broilers grow rapidly and are maintained massively and intensively. Massive maintenance systems make the spread of disease easier. Treatment of bacterial diseases using inappropriate antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance. This study aims to look at the antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria from broiler chickens. E coli bacteria were isolated from 34 samples of broiler chicken cecum taken from several large traders in the city of Makassar. The E. coli isolates were then tested using Kirby-Bauer's diffuse disc method on 5 types of antibiotics from 5 classes of antibiotics namely: Ampicillin (?-lactam); Tetracycline (Tetracycline); Gentamicin (Aminoglycosides); Enrofloxacin (Flouroquinolone); Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethroprim (Sulfonamide). The inhibition zone formed was interpreted using the CLSI 2018 standard. The results of this study were 79.4% of the samples resistant to Ampisillin, 85.3% resistant to Tetracycline, 61.8% resistant to Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethroprim, 76.5% resistant to Enrofloxacin and 52.9% were resistant to Gentamicin. With 91.18% of the sample being resistant to at least 2 types of antibiotics.
