Abstract

Study of germination methods conduct to get information about seed viability based on germination rate, percentage of germination and vigority. Germination methods was studied to get the efficiency and effectivity of germination, easy to handle, low costs with high vigority. Sand and gunny sack methods  for germination, need extensive place  and 3-4 days germination period after planting. This research will study the alternative of germination method with soaking. This method can be accelerating  germination rate and effectively place usage without decreasing the quality of cacao seedling.The research was done at Kaliwining Experimental Station, Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institue. This research consist of two experiment was arranged based on factorial completely random design. First experiment will observed to compared germination rate and the second experiment will observed seedling quality between soaking and wet gunny sack germination method.The results showed that length of radicel on soaking method longer than wet gunny sack method. Growth of radicel started from 2 hours after soaking, moreover length of radicel at 4 hours after soaking have significant different value with gunny sack method. On 24 hours after soaking have 3,69 mm and 0,681 mm on wet gunny sack treatment. Except lengt of hipocotyl, there is not different condition between seedling that out came  from soaking and wet gunny sack method. Length of hipocotyl on 36 hours after soaking have 9,15 cm and significant different between wet gunny sack germination method that have 5,40 cm. Keywords : seed germination, soaking method, Theobroma cacao L., cocoa seedlings

Abstract

Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic tumor occurring mostly in mandible. Objective: the purpose of the study was to find out the distribution and frequency of the most common histopathological type and pattern of ameloblastoma, the percentage of ameloblastoma according to gender and histopathological types of ameloblas-toma related to gender. Methods: This research was a quantitative analysiswith descriptive retrospective de-sign. This study used secondary data taken from medical records at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital Jakarta in the period of January 2002–July 2008. The relationship be-tween age or gender and histopathological types of ameloblastoma was statistically assessed. Results: From data of ameloblastoma patients that have been collected as many as 66 cases; it was found that 31–50 years old age group had the highest percentages of occurrence among other age groups that was 53% from all cases. There are slight differences between women and men in ameloblastoma cases. The incidence was higher in women (37 cases, 56.1%) than in men (29 cases, 43.9%) and the histopathological type found most often was plexiform type as many as 31.8% from all cases. Conclusion: Ameloblastoma presented in adult period, more frequent in women than men, and were predominantly plexiform.DOI: 10.14693/jdi.v18i2.60

Abstract

The removal of impacted mandibular molar by surgery (odontectomi) is a common procedure done by the dentist in daily practice. A well and proper operation technique is required to avoid unexpected complication after odontectomy. A 48 years oldwomen is reported with pathological sinistra mandible angle fracture after odontectomy of mandibular third molar done by Yordania Oral Surgeon two month ago. Patient was refered to Departemen of Oral Surgery RSCM. Reposition and fragmen fixation using plate-srew and arch bar. In this paper, writer try to discuss about the posible cause of complication. Hopefully, dentists will be more careful in doing odontectomy procedure, to avoid unexpected complications.DOI:10.14693/jdi.v15i3.25

Abstract

  It is well known that almost all of dental treatment in dentistry especially in oral surgery associated with pain. It is make uncomfortable feeling and fear for the patient. It’s responsibility for the dentist to know the patofisiology of pain and how to relief it. Recently, beyond knowledge and technology in dentistry and pharmacology, there are many drugs to relief of pain, especially from derived NSAID. For selecting analgesic drugs, accurately or effective and minimal side effect, perhaps we must know the biotransformation of NSAID. Generally, NSAID drugs it choose who works specific in COX-2 inhibitor and work minimized in COX-1.

Abstract

One of the alternative technologies that could be used for domestic waste water treatment is the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR). MBBR in principle is activated sludge that is increased by adding media in to the reactor, so there are two treatments process happened inside, suspended growth and attached growth. This research is using bioball as a media which has surface area of ±210 m2/m3 by 20% volume of reactor volume. Wastewater treatment by MBBR uses variations of Hydraulic Retention time (HRT) 12, 8, 6, and 4 hours, then the parameters measured were BOD, COD, TSS, temperature, and pH. Result of the study shows that within HRT for 12 hours in aeration tank, removal efficiency of COD is 81,37%, BOD is 82,4%, and TSS is 90,05%. HRT for 8 hours, COD removal efficiency is 88,72%, BOD is 89,7%, and TSS is 92,06%. HRT for 6 hours, COD removal efficiency is 85,48%, BOD is 80,15%, and TSS is 94,85%. HRT for 4 hours, COD removal efficiency is 81,07%, BOD is 87,88%, and TSS is 94,86%. With a retention time of 4 hours, the effluent results domestic wastewater treatment using MBBR has met quality standards in accordance with KEPMEN LH no. 112 of 2003 on Domestic Wastewater Quality Standard and Jakarta Governor Regulation no. 122 of 2005 on Domestic Wastewater Management in Special Province of Jakarta. Keywords: Domestic wastewater, MBBR, bioball.
