Abstract

Studi terhadap pertumbuhan kerang simping Placopecten magellanicus, yang dibudidayakan dengan metode ?suspended culture? telah dilakukan selama tujuh bulan di lokasi budidaya di Graves Shoal, Mahone Bay,Nova Scotia, Kanada. Benih scallop muda dipelihara dalam pearl nets dengan kepadatan 30-35 ekor dan ditempatkan pada empat lokasi yang mewakili perairan permukaan (7 m), dasar perairan (14 m), di luar lokasibudidaya (outer edge), di tengah-tengah lokasi budidaya (centre). Pertumbuhan jaringan lunak (whole tissue weight) diamati setiap bulan sekali. Monitoring terhadap suhu dan ketersediaan pakan pada permukaan dan dasar perairan juga dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pertumbuhan pada jaringan lunak lebih besar di permukaan perairan dibandingkan dengan di dasar perairan, tetapi tidak ada perbedaan nyata antara antara pertumbuhan di luar lokasi budidaya dengan di lokasi budidaya. Pertumbuhan jaringan lunak sendiri tidak ada korelasinya dengan suhu dan ketersediaan pakan di perairan.Kata kunci: suhu, ketersediaan pakan, berat total jaringan lunak, kerang simpingA study of the growth of the sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus, under suspended culture conditions was carried out over a seven month period at a culture site in Graves Shoal, Mahone Bay,Nova Scotia ? Canada.Scallop spat were cultivated in pearl nets at a density of 30-35 per net set at four locations corresponding to the surface (7 m) and bottom (14 m) at the outer edge and the center of the site. Whole tissue weight wasmeasured at monthly intervals. Environmental conditions represented as temperature and food availability at the surface and bottom over the same period were also monitored. The result showed that the mean values of whole tissue weight at the surface sites were greater than that at the bottom sites, but there were not significantly different between the outside sites and the inside sites. Growth in whole tissue weight was notto correlate to temperature - food availability.Key words: temperature, food availability, whole tissue weight, sea scallop

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the phisycal and mechanical properties of binderless particleboard using bamboo as raw materials. Andong bamboo (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinaceae) used in this study was taken from Bogor area. Bamboo was converted using hammer mill and air dried subsequently. The particle zise was passed of the 20 mesh screener. Three types pretreatment were used to prepare the particle, namely : 1) water boiling for 30 and 60 minutes, 2) oxydation using hydrogen peroxyde, and 3) combination of water boiling for 30 minutes and oxydation using hydrogen proxide. As a control, conventional particleboards using 10 % melamine formaldehyde (MF) resin based on dry particle weight was produced. The particle which has pretreated then utilized to produce binderless particleboard with board density of 0.75 g/cm3. The pressing conditions were 180 oC in temperature, 25 kgf/cm2 in pressure for 20 minutes. The board characteristics were tested according to JIS A 5908 2003. The results indicated that particleboard made from  particle with oxydation pretreatment performed superior characteristics compared to those of particleboard made from particle only with water boiling pretreatment. Dimensional stability and modulus of elasticity of board with oxydation pretreatment were excellent. Its was superior compared to that of conventional particleboard using melamine formaldehyde as adhesive.   Keywords : Bamboo, Binderless Particleboard, Oxydation, Hydrogen Peroxyde

Abstract

Solar energy produced by concentrated solar heat collector panels requires tracking mechanisms for a more optimal direction. This paper presents the design and construction of a low energy solar tracking control system with telecontrol facilities. To accelerate the movement of the panel in always adjusting itself to the direction of the sun, a combination of the timer and light sensor was used. In this control system, the reference signal is taken from two pieces of light sensors while the feedback is taken from the position and temperature sensors. The program has been developed using C language and was implemented on the microcontroller ATMega8535 as the brain of the system. Telecontrol facilities for monitoring the data to a computer uses transceiver modules via RS-232 connection. A DC motor having power capacity of 0.74 watts was used and was clutched with 1:7,300 gearbox ratio. Experiments on light sensor characteristics and simulated movement of the panel were carried out. From the light sensor experiment it can be concluded that the sensor produces 0-4 volt output signal when bright 3.3-3.9 volts, when cloudy and 1.5-3.3 volts when sunny. From the simulation of panel movement, it is known that the solar tracking control system moves the panel and tracks the direction of the sun movement.

Abstract

The aboraratory scale experiment with split plot randomized design was perfomed to find out the effect bioaugmention on ammonia reduction in the sediment of semi intensive tambak. The msin treatment was bioaugmentaion with probiotic epicin concentration of 0; 0.5 ; 1.0 and 1.5 ppm; as sub-treatment was the salinity (20; 25 and 30 ppt), and as a group was day (0; 2; 4 and 6). The result indicated that bioaugmentation was able to reduce ammonia concentration in the sediment of semi intensive tambak. The treatments, especially dose and days had a significant affect on the reduction ammonia in the sediment (p<0.01) with exception to salinity (p>0.05). the capability of epicin as a bioaugmentation started on the day of 2. The most effective epicin dose to reduce ammonia in the sedimentof semi intensive tambak for culture of Tiger shrimp (Penaeus. Monodon F.) was 1.5 ppm.

Abstract

One of natural pigments besides Chlorophyll is carotenoid that has two classes, namely Xanthophyll and Carotene that have important roles for human helath like provitamin A, antioxidant, anticancer, and to improve the better immune responses. Carotenoids are yellow pigments, orange to red pigments that can be found in human, animals, high level plants, fruits, algae, fungi and bacteria. Bacterial symbionts produce pigments that are similar with their host. Pure cultures from marine microbial community can be isolated and cultivated in big scale in relatively short time. The purpose of this study was to as well as isolate and to identify pigments carotenoid from bacterial symbionts from seaweed Caulerpa cupressoides to identify bacterial symbionts that produce carotenoid pigments. Pigment analysis was performed by UVVis spectrophotometer and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Bacterial identification was performed based on biochemical tests. These results showed that from 13 bacterial symbionts isolated from Teluk Awur Waters, there was 2 isolates that positively synthesize carotenoids pigments, CJ.K and CJ.OR bacteria respectively, CJ.K bacterium contained of Violaxanthin and Neoxanthin pigments. While CJ.OR bacterium contained of Xanthophyll, Diadinoxanthin, γ-carotene, and β-carotene pigments. Bacterial identification showed that CJ.K bacterium was Brevibacterium maris and CJ.OR bacterium was Paracoccus alcaliphilus. This result showed that found some carotenoid pigments from bacterial symbiont of seaweed Caulerpa cupressoides.

Abstract

Salt is one of the national strategic commodities in the field of marine. Effort to increase the quantity and quality of salt production has not been a priority for farmers in Juwana. It examined regarding evaluated the suitability of the physical land of salt embankment in Pati Juwana to approach some of the factors are soil permeability, climatology, soil type and topography of the form. The purpose of this research is to know and study the suitability of the salt level land embankment in district Juwana, Pati. This research using several physical analysis of the permeability of soil, land forms and types, climatic conditions and scoring physical suitable of salt embankment. The results of this study indicate that the suitability of physical salt embankment in Juwana, Pati has a physical suitability class is very suitable (S1) to produce a national salt.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study sediment cells to analyze the influence of sediment transport along the coast towards shoreline change, and know the area with erosion and accretion occur along the coast of Kaliwungu Subdistrict and Brangsong Subdistrict, Kendal Regency. The method used to determine the cell sediment is a remote sensing image interpretation and field survey by identifying sources of sediment, the sediment movement and sediment movement limits. The area that experiencing erosion and accretion is obtained from Landsat satellite image overlay. Satellite imagery used in this study is Landsat satellite image recording in 1991, 2001 and 2011. Barangsong Subdistrict and Kaliwungu Subdistrict in year 1991 until 2011 experienced eroded by 8,15 ha and 9,33 ha of accretion. The phenomenon of erosion and accretion in the subdistrict Barangsong and subdistrict Kaliwungu influenced by the source of sediment from the Blorong river, Waridin river, and Sapen river that serve as fixed limits in the concept of sediment cells. Coastline changes that occur in the study area is also due to reclamation that juts into the sea like jeti development and KLI (Kayu Lapis Indonesia).

Abstract

Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh photoperiod dan temperatur terhadap pematangan gonad kepiting bakau. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Hatchery Marine Center IImu Kelautan Jepara, dari bulan September 1999 sampai dengan bulan Desember 1999. Metoda penelitan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) faktorial faktor pertama adalah perlakuan photoperiod dengan 2 taraf pelakuan. yaitu short?day dan long-day. Sedangkan faktor kedua adalah perlakuan temperatur yang juga mempunyai 2 taraf perlakuan yaitu 29 oC dan 31 oC. Hasil penelitian menunjukksn bahwa perlakuan dengan kombinasi photoperiod dan temperatur berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan gonad kepiting bakau. Urutan besarnya nilai lndek kematangan gonad (IKG) adalah 25,41 (A 1B I); 22,06 (A 1B2):20,77 (A2B I) dan 19,88 (A2B2). Hasil analisis regresi nilai simpangan (b) dari persamaan garis menunjukkan nilai IKG terbaik dicapai pada perlakuan short-day dan temperatur 29oC (A 1B1). Sedangkan terendah pada perlakuan long-day dan temperatur 31?C (A2B2).Kata kunci: reproduksi, photoperiod, temperatur; indek kematangan gonad??The research is to investigate the effect of photoperiod and temperature on the gonad development (GSI) of the mud crab. This research was conducted at the marine centre hatchery Jepara from September to December 1999. The method used was completely factorial randomized design. The first factor was photoperiod i.e. short-day and long-day. The second factor was i.e temperetur 29 oC and 31 oC. The result showed that photoperiod and temperatur in combination influenced gonad development of the mud crab. The degree of the gonado somatic index (GSI) was 25,41 (A 1B1); 22,06 (A 1B2); 20,77 (A2B1) and 19.88 (A2B2). The result of regression analysis showed that the highest and the lowest gonado somatic indices occured on the combination between short-day and 29 oC and long-day temperatur 3 1oC respectively. Abstract

Copper metal (Cu) is one of the heavy metals that can contaminate the environment, especially water. Cu is a heavy metal which is harmful to human health, but Cu is also needed in our life as trace elements. This study aimed to determine the effect of Cu contaminants with different concentrations on the root structure of the mangrove seedlings Rhizophora mucronata for 30 days of observation. Rhizophora mucronata is taken from Tapak village, Tugu, Semarang, Central Java. The research was carried out from June to August 2012 at the Marine Science Campus of Diponegoro University Semarang. A laboratory experiment research was conducted on the effect of different Cu concentrationt (20, 100 and 500 ppm) and different exposure material (10, 20 and 30 days) on the root structure of mangrove Rhizophora mucronata. Root structure using microscopy observations performed at the Laboratory of Plant Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University. The result demonstrated that the root of epidermis, cortex, endodermis, xylem and phloem had no effect on their structure after exposure to concentration of Cu of 20, 100 and 500 ppm since there were not change on their shape compared to the control.

Abstract

Mangrove is a coastal plant which is vurneable to heavy metal pollution , whether from land or from the sea . More industrial development resulted in high levels of waste pollution .Various industrial waste into coastal waters will threat coastal vegetation like as mangrove. Rhizophora mucronata is one kind of mangrove with the highest population and is most often found around the coastal areas. Many industrial activities dischange lead (Pb), where Pb is one of the heavy metals that can not be degraded, can be accumulated in organism. This study aimed to know the accumulation of plumbum in mangrove the influence of difference concentration of Pb and exposure duration on chlorophyll content of R. mucronata mangrove leaves. The research was conducted in July-August 2012 at the Marine Science Campus , Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science , Diponegoro University , Semarang. Mangrove saplings used was R. mucronata ± 8 months old . Mangrove test was placed on the test media with concentrations of 20 , 100 , and 500 ppm . Each treatment was triplicates and analysis for chlorophyll content was done every 10 days. The results of study can be concluded that the greater Pb concentration the longer the exposure time could decrease of chlorophyll content. But despite the amount of chlorophyll decreased, based on the calculation of the value of phytoremediation (FTD) R. mucronata still be potencial to reduce pollutant movement of Pb in soil/sediment/
