Abstract

The Camelia-mulberry tea has a big potential to becomes a healthy beverage according to its bioactive components, and added by red ginger powder and tamarind. Those ingredients may increase immunity againts various diseases. The aims of this study was to develop formula of a healthy beverage contained of two varieties of leaves (camelia and mulberry), with Ginger (Zingiber officinale) and Tamarind (Tamarindus indica, L.)   This main research  used mice strain Spraque Dawley, 1.5-2 month old with  weight 75–105 gram. The instruments used in this study were tea maker, organoleptic test and ELISA test. The experimental design used factorial complete random design with 5 groups, where on each group consists of 5 mouse, with two selected variables of the best camelia-mulberry tea, i.e., multikaulis enzymatic oxidation + Gambung 7 enzimatic non-oxidation; bulk tea (Tea A) with difference time observation ( 0, 2 and 4 weeks).  The given dosage was 1 ml/100 gram mice weight, with different concentration of camelia-mulberry tea i.e. 3, 6, 9, and 12 gram/ml. Abstract

ABSTRACT. It was reported that the Camellia tea contained of poliphenol 25-35 percent and other compounds which is goodfor health. Whereas bioactive compound i.e. Catechin and its derivatives ofgreen tea have been reported to have a beneficial effects on human health for example as anti cancer to prevent stroke and heart disease. The objectives ofthis research were to study the effect ofvariety and processing ofcamelliamulberry tea on bioactive compounds i. e. catechin and its derivatives; and to conduct organoleptic test. The Clone Gambung 7 and 9 of Camellia sinensis var. assamica; Kanva and Morus multicaulis of varieties of mulberry were used as main ingredients. Mulberry leaves were processed by enzymatic oxidative and non enzymatic oxydative, while Camellia leaves processed with non- enzymatic oxidative reaction. Thereafter, Camellia and mulberry was mixed in to ratio I: 1 (w/w, db). The chemical analysis for the content of theaflavin, tannin, cafein, catechin and its derivatives and organoleptic test were successfully conducted. The study showed the theaflavin, tannin and cafein content for fresh mulberry are 0,0690 and 0,0555 percent (db); 0,229 and 0,451 percent(db); 0,683 and 0.465 percent (db), correspoldingly. Theaflavin and tannin compounds of mulberry tea were found least content than Camellia-mulberry tea. There are three good formulas of Camellia-mulberry tea: start with a high rank M multicaulis-nonoxidizedGambung 7; Kanva-nonoxidized-Gambung 9 and M multicaulis-nonoxidized-Gambung 7, where mean value oftheaflavin mid tannin are 2.7968 percent db; 2.7/73 percent db; and 2.6575 percent db, correspondingly. A highest value of catechin was found in M multicaulis-oxidized-Gambung 7 (2.85%). The highest value of total catechin Kanvanonoxidized- Gambung 9 (3.91%), andfollowed by M multicaulis-nonoxidized-Gambung 7 (2.57%); and was M multicaulis-oxidized-Gambung 7 (2.33%). Abstract

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the most frequent head and neck malignancy in Indonesia. Misdiagnosis of NPC is common because of unspecific symptoms as unilateral ear complaint. This case reminds doctors of the early symptoms of NPC and of other factors which lead to misdiagnosis and addresses also patients and their families. Reported is a 44 years old man with unilateral ear disorder that had been treated by otorhinolaryngologists, an ophthalmologist, a neurologist, and dentist first, but diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma stage IVA (T4N1M0) one year later. NPC has unspecific early symptoms such as unilateral ear disorder. Primarily doctors, but also patients and their families should be aware of unilateral ear complaint.Keywords: misdiagnosis, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, unilateral ear disorders

Abstract

Evaluation of the inhibitory effect of green tea effervescent tablet (TETH) on linoleic acid oxidation was carried out. TETH had the highest inhibitory effect on linoleic acid as compared with BHA, BHT, α-tocopherol and TETH-C. On tenth days incubation, TETH inhibited of linoleic acid oxidation is 50.64% followed by TETH-C, α-tocopherol, BHT and BHA as 33.83%; 33.40%; 29.51% and 26.39% respectivelly. TETH had a inhibitory effect is 1.5 times more than TETH-C and α-tocopherol or 1.7 and 1.9 times more than BHT and BHA respectivelly.Key words: inhibitory effect, green tea effervescent tablet, linoleic acid oxidation

Abstract

Ability of free radical scavengers of various tea extracts (black tea, fermented tea; green tea , unfermented tea; oolong dan pouchong tea semifermented tea) was studied. The scavenging effects on active oxygen decreased in order semifemented tea > unferfmnted tea > fennented lea. Antioxidant activity on tea often might related wthi catechin presence. Catechin activity as antioxidant estabilished. Several epidemilogical and phartnacokgical research shown that catechin had a strongly antioxidan activity. (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) are the major catechin of ~ tea This compounds had a strongly scavenging activity on free radical such as superoxide, hydrogen superoxide, DPPH and peroxynitdte. Abstract

Untuk mengurangi penggunaan pestisida di perkebunan teh, maka salah satu upaya pengendalian hama yang dapat dilakukan adalah mengkombinasikan aplikasi pestisida dengan jamur entomopatogenik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kompatibilitas antara jamur P. fumosoroseus  dengan beberapa bahan aktif pestisida di laboratorium. Perlakuan dirancang dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) terdiri dari 5 jenis bahan aktif yaitu metomil, bifentrin, imidakloprid, tembaga oksida dan metidation pada taraf konsentrasi sesuai rekomendasi lapang (RL), 0,5x RL dan 2x RL. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa diantara kelima jenis bahan aktif pestisida yang diuji, metidation memiliki tingkat toksisitas yang paling tinggi. Persentase produksi spora tertinggi sebesar 13,77% ditunjukkan oleh perlakuan bifentrin 2x RL. Combining application of pesticides and entomopathogenic fungi is an alternative way for controlling pest in order to reduce pesticides application in the tea field. This research was aimed toexamine the compatibility of Paecilomyces fumosoroseus tosome active agents of pesticide in laboratory. Completely Randomized Block Designed (CRBD) with 5 active agents: methomyl, bifenthrin, imidacloprid, copper oxide and metidation in three different concentration was employed in this study, which was based on the existing field recommendation (FR): 0,5x FR and 2x FR. The results showed that among the five tested pesticides, metidation appeared to be the most toxic agentto P. fumosoroseus. Meanwhile, the highest percentage of spore production was counted in bifenthrin 2x RL (13,77%.)

Abstract

This study aims to examine the antihyperglycemic effect of white tea (Camellia sinensis) and Moringa oleifera when administered as a single component and as mixture in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The study design was experimental. The first step was to analyze epigallocathecingallat (EGCG) content as standard with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method. The second step was intervention in Sprague dawley rats induced by streptozotocin 40 mg/kgBW. Intervention held for 21 days with given white tea (WT), M. oleifera (MO), mixture of white tea and M. oleifera (WT+MO) and green tea (GT) as positive control with reference dose 100 mg/kgBW EGCG. Rats blood glucose and body weight were measured. The results are WT having the highest content of EGCG (4.46%). MO and WT+MO only have 2.42% and 2.46% of EGCG while GT as control is the lowest (1.29%). Measurements of blood glucose and body weight in group that given WT or MO as single component showed no significant difference with control negative group (p>0.05). Blood glucose decreased significantly in group WT+MO (p<0.05). Administration of WT+MO was able to maintain a stable body weight during the intervention period (p>0.05). The combination of white tea and M. oleifera has better ability as an antihiperglycemic agent compared to single component.

Abstract

Research of free radical scavenging activity of some ready to drink tea (RTD-Tea) was carried out. Generally, the result showed that tea beverages have a good of scavenging activity against DPPH free radical. T-AR was RTD-tea which has the stronger sca­venging activity against DPPH free radical. This RTD-tea has a low of EC50 value i.e. 63,55ml/ml. The scavenging activity followed were T-ES (63,95ml/ml), T-UP (65,75ml/ml), T-RO (86,85ml/ml), T-LI (91,15ml/ml), T-TA (107,53ml/ml), T-NG (125,36ml/ml) and T-AK (756,14ml/ml) respectively.

Abstract

Tea is used in the food, cosmetic, and herbal drug industries. White tea is a kind of tea containing a relatively high polyphenol content compared to other kind of tea, and thus has the potential of being used as a natural antibacterial. The objective of this research was to study the antibacterial activity of of  white tea extract in several variation of  13 % (w/v) concentration of solvents to the activity of gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus) and Gram-negative bacteria (Shigella dysenteriae). Laboratorium experimental method was used in this descriptive study. The antibacterial activity study was comprised of estimating inhibition area and total of bacterial growth. The results revealed that white tea extract inhibited bacterial growth, indicating that white tea extract from the n-hexane, ethyl acetate and 96% ethanol solvents could be developed as an antibacterial material. The diameter of the inhibition area to Bacillus cereus bacteria for n - hexane , ethyl acetate, and  ethanol 13 % (w/ v)  solvents were 0.6 mm, 10.5 mm and 1.75 mm, respectively; while for Shigella dysenteriae bacteria were 0,5 mm, 9,86 mm  and 10,6 mm, respectively. The total growth of Bacillus cereus bacteria for n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol 13 % (w/v) solvent were 1.3 x 107, 6.0 x 106, and  1.1 x 104 CFU / ml , and of Shigella dysenteriae bacteria were  1.0 x 107,  6.5 x 106 and 4.6 x 106 CFU / ml, respectively.

Abstract

Tea has a high content of polyphenols with potent antioxidant activity and beneficial for health. Availability of polyphenols extract is still very limited. The aim of this study to optimation and characterization of green tea polyphenol extract base on some solvents. Parameters analyzed were polyphenol content and yield of some extraction process conditions. This result showed that extraction by the ratio of tea and solvent was 1 : 15 b/v, extracted by acetone 70% solution in temperature 600C for 15 minutes obtain polyphenol content of 53,30% b/b and total yield of 40,17% b/b.
