Abstract

This study is conducted to identify species of trematode and its pathological features in pigeons’kidney. Twenty five of Yogyakarta pigeons were examined for trematode infection in kidneys. One ofkidneys was mashed in mortar with a little water, the other was examined for histopathological featuresstained with hematoxyline-eosin.Trematodes found were stained with Schmison ´s Carmine. Seven pigeons(28%) were infected by trematode with non significant clinical features. Identification trematodescharacterized by oral sucker, pharynx, testes are slighty diagonal in position, irregular in shape and intracaecal. Ovary pretesticular and vitellaria widespread from anterior ovarium to the posterior body.Histopathological examination showed segment of trematode in the medullary collecting ducts lumen,dilatation, flattening and emptyness of ducts epithelial cells, emptyness, giant cells and dominationmononuclear cell in interstitial tissue, characterizing a granulomatous nephritis. Trematodes foundidentified as Paratanaisia bragai. The trematodes were found in very dilated medullary collecting ductsand caused inflammation in adjacent tissues. Further studies are needed to find out vector of trematodein pigeons .

Abstract

A research has been conducted to evaluate storage length effect on the pathogeniclty of E. tenella oocysts in broiler chickens.Two groups consist eight day old chickens, four chickens in group I and four chichkens in group II were used in this research. At the age of seventeen days, all the chickens in both groups were infected with 20,000 E. tenella oocysts. Group I was infected with Eimeria tenella oocyst that had been stored for 107 days at 4°C in the refrigerator and group II was infected with E. tenella oocysts that had been stored for two days at room temperature.The data collected were the caeca lesion score and the histopathology of the caeca. Of all chichkens in both groups that were killed on the fifth days after infection.The data of the caeca lesion score was analysed using the Rank test (Ferguson and Takane, 1989) while the data of caeca histopathology was analyzed descriptively.The result of the research on the caeca lesion score showed that there was a significant difference between group I and group II (P < 0,01). In group I the caeca lesion score was relative light (0) - (+1) if compared with group two (+4). The result of the research on the caeca histopathology showed that in group I the histopathological changes were relative light if compared with group II. In group II there was a great inflamation reaction and the coccidia stadia varied greatly.The conclusion of the research was when oocysts storage for 107 days will be influence the pathogenicity of the E. tenel1 a oocyst s.

Abstract

A research has been conducted to evaluate the effect of certain desinfectants on the speculation of the Eimerla tenclla oocysts.In this research in vitro methode has been used. This research used oocysts Eimeria tenella which have not yet Sporulated. 6 kinds of disinfectants and water as control. These desinfectants were used in the research namely : Lysol, Creolin. Kalium Jodida (KJ). Formalin, Bromoquod and Ca (OH)2.The oocysts which have not yet sporulation were imerted in these desinfectants. The duration of liners ion at each treatment was succescively 10 minutes. 20 minutes and 30 minutes. The desinfectants concentration used is of three degree of strength, in the following proportion = 1:2:4.The data colected was the percentage of oocystys which have sporulated 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours, after treatment. The data was analyzed with the Split Plot method (Gill. 1978).The result of research showed that each desinfectant had a different effect on the percentage of the oocyst sporulation (P < 0,01) . Bromoquod was found to be the best desinfectant, and the others were in this following order = Creolin. KJ, Water, Lysol. CafQHJn and formalin. The Concen­tration was also found significantly effective (P < 0,6) in suppressing the sporulation of the oocysts. Creolin concen­tration of the 4tri strength was found to be the best desin­fectant and the others were in this following order : water. KJ. Bromoquod, Lysol, Ca(OH)£ and formalin. Abstract

The prepatent periods of T. evansi, death times and reduction of foody weights of experimental rats (Rattus norvegicus) infected with T. evansi were studied.Twelve rats were divided into four groups (group 1-!V), each group contains of three rats. The rate of the group II, group III and group IV, were infected intraperitonealy with 300, 600 and 2400 T. evansi per rat, respectively. The group I was used as a control group. After infection, their body weight were measured, followed by blood examination and detection of death time everyday.The data were collected then analysed descriptively using regression-correlation between total number of T. evansi wbich were infected, prepatent period, death time and body weight changes.The results of the experiment indicated that the higher dose of T. evansi infected, caused shorter prepatent period and death time, but there were a negative correlation between total number of T. evansi infected and percentage of body weight reduction. The evidence also showed even thought the prepatent period was shorter, all experimental rats died within 5-6 days after T. evansi detected in the peripheral blood.

Abstract
