Abstract

National and provincial road networks have a major role to provide high accessibility and mobility to all community. Their services both functional and structural, therefore, need to improve continuously. Current figures show that from 2002 to 2003 the length of the road networks increased 8.07%. During these years, it was found that the road investment increased 28.61% and AADT increased 8.80%.  However, it was not followed by the road networks performance, such as the IRI increased 39.5%, the road networks with SDI>50 increased 84.01%, and the road network in bad condition increased 64.92%.  The purpose of this paper is to highlight and review technical aspects of the road networks performance particularly their quality standard achievement. Finally this paper discusses reasons of decreased quality performance of the road networks whilst increased investment and maintenance cost occurred. Abstract

Nowadays, the government plan to develop toll road intercity network, which connect Jakarta and Surabaya city, Either Roadway or toll road that connecting one town to another represent supporting tools towards economic activity. Lacking in road connetion services, can cause high expense economics which finally encumber society as a whole.  In the last decade, government find difficulties to increase road connection service, either from capacities or also from its qualiaty side. Recent years, the maintenance cost allocation seems to short to fulfill the requirement standard of maintenance. Therefore the toll road constructed by private sector should be mobilize as one of the society participation form in the infrastructure development, besides reduce the monetary burden to government. It is need to learn furthermore, whether the toll road construction oppose against the principle of environment conservation. Principles of sustainable development also consider to the economics aspect. Both aspects, economic and environment have to be considered and in line together. In evaluating a big project, there are some method which could direct or indirectly calculate its cost benefit. Its should be recognized whether the toll road construction comply with the financial, economics and social aspects. In the view of economics, toll road construction investment could mobilized a big amount of money and offering many vacancies. While in economics critism which produce a high unemployment, it should stimulate the growth of economics in a broad way. Abstract

ABSTRACK The structure of the city including the variables that affect the city's transportation system. In this case, the structure of the city associated with transport and fuel consumption, which consists of vast areas of administration and woke up, population, population density (net and gross), and GDP (constant and valid). The purpose of this study was to analyze the variable structure of the city, urban transportation systems, and fuel consumption as well as analyzing the relationship between urban transport systems on fuel consumption metropolitan cities, major cities, and towns are in Java. Biplot analysis is descriptive statistical technique multiple dimensions (multivariate) that can be presented visually to present simultaneous observations of n objects and p variables in the space plane (dimension 2), so that the characteristics of variables and object of observation and the relative position between object observations with variables can be analyzed. Biplot analysis results showed that each metropolitan and large cities have different characteristics of urban structure, while the city was relatively similar characteristics. The existence of a positive linear relationship and a very strong connection between population and consumption of premium, that is, the consumption of premium will increase if the population is also increasing. Keywords : City structure, fuel consumption, biplot analysis ABSTRAK Struktur kota termasuk dalam variabel yang mempengaruhi sistem transportasi kota. Dalam hal ini, Struktur kota yang terkait dengan transportasi dan konsumsi bahan bakar, yang terdiri dari luas administrasi daerah dan terbangun, penduduk, kepadatan penduduk (netto dan brutto), dan PDRB (konstan dan berlaku). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis variabel Struktur kota, sistem transportasi perkotaan, dan konsumsi bahan bakar serta menganalisis hubungan antara sistem transportasi perkotaan terhadap konsumsi bahan bakar kota metropolitan, kota besar, dan kota sedang di Jawa. Analisis Biplot adalah teknik statistika deskriptif dimensi ganda (multivariate) yang dapat disajikan secara visual guna menyajikan secara simultan n obyek pengamatan dan p variabel dalam ruang bidang datar (dimensi 2), sehingga ciri-ciri variabel dan obyek pengamatan serta posisi relatif antar obyek pengamatan dengan variabel dapat dianalisis. Hasil analisa biplot menunjukkan bahwa setiap kota metropolitan dan kota besar memiliki karakteristik Struktur perkotaan yang berbeda, sedangkan kota sedang memiliki karakteristik yang relatif sama. Adanya hubungan linear positif dan sangat kuat antara penduduk dan konsumsi premium, artinya, konsumsi premium akan meningkat jika populasi juga meningkat. Abstract

The objectives of this research were to learn the process of edible film formation from surimi waste water and characterization of edible film. Research was conducted in two steps, comprise recovery of protein from surimi waste water and processing of edible film. Recovery of protein was conducted in order to obtain the protein concentrate as a raw material of edible film. Processing of edible film was achieved in two step, first, to determine the pH solution creating the best edible film.The second step (as main reseach) is processing of edible film using determined pH generated from the first step combined with varies concentration of surimi waste-water concentrate.Afterward the edible film was physically and mekanically characterized.The results showed that the escalating concentration of protein concentrate causes in rising of thickness and elongation, but in the same time it reduces the tensile strength and water vapor transmission rate of edible film. By using concentration of protein concentrate as 3-4 % generated edible films which have to characteristics as follows: the viscocity of solutions 1.57-4.35 cP; the thickness of edible film were 35.2-96.47 μm; tensile strength 600.3293-336.6180 kgf/cm2; elongation were 9.11-17.07 %; and water vapor transmission rate of edible film were 22.84-4.13 g/m 2/24 hours. Nevertheless oxygen transmission rate of edible film can not be determined since the edible film was still too porous. Statistics Analysis showed that the rising of protein concentration were significantly influenced the viscocity solution, thickness, elongation, tensile strength and water vapor transmission rate of edible film.Key word: characteristics, edible film, protein, surimi waste-water

Abstract

Sediment microbial fuel cell (SMFC) is one form of the microbial fuel cell (MFC) that can convert organic complex material in the sediment to generate electrons. This research was conducted to determine the characteristicsof marine sediments from the Bay of Jakarta, to know the amount of electric current can be generated through SMFC, and to identify bacteria at the anode SMFC. This research was conducted in several stages which include the characterization of marine sediment samples, making SMFC circuit, electric current measurement, characterization SMFC substrate, and the isolation, characterization, and identi cation of bacteria. The study shows that marine sediments of Jakarta Bay have characteristics which include silty clay loam texture, organic carbon 2.19%, total nitrogen 0.19%, and phosphorus 128 ppm. The electric current generated by the SMFC using  xed value resistors 820 Ω ± 5% reach peak production of electric currents on day 21, that is 139.51 mA/m2 with SMFC substrate having organic carbon 1.88%, total nitrogen 0.15%, and phosphorus 88 ppm. Isolation of bacteria at the anode was found three types of isolates, that suspected are Aeromonas hydrophila, Acinetobacter sp., and Bacillus marinus.Keywords: electrical energy, Jakarta bay, marine sediment, sediment microbial fuel cell

Abstract

Tuna viscera is highly potential as a source of protease enzyme. A wide enzyme applications requires an economical and efficient enzyme purification techniques and therefore can be applied in a large scale. The ultrafiltration (UF) process is one of the potential technology but has disadvantage due to fouling and concentration polarization. The studies on the operating trans-membrane pressure (TMP), the operating temperature, materials of the membrane and the molecular weight cut off (MWCO) of the membrane to reduce fouling and concentration polarization should be carried out. Reverse osmosis (RO) process at the next step was used to increase the concentration of the protease enzyme. This study was divided into several stages of preparation of protease enzyme, crude extract, pre-filtration, UF process, RO process and SDS-PAGE analysis. The tests included measurements of protein levels and activity of the protease enzyme. Optimum conditions for the purification of the UF polyacrylonitrile with MWCO 100 kDa was obtain on TMP 55 kPa and a temperature of 40 °C. Flux in both membrane was influenced by the TMP, temperature, the membrane material and MWCO. Rejection of protein and enzyme activity in both membrane is more influenced by the membrane material and MWCO of the membrane. Estimation of protein molecular weight after the RO from UF polyacrylonitrile with MWCO 100 kDa were 37.53; 27.77; 22.72 and 19.88 kDa while the specific activity of the protease was 1.38 unit/ mg.Keywords: protease, tuna viscera, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis.

Abstract

Batteries are practical and inexpensive source of energy. Avariety of new battery material technology continue to be developed, along with the demands of green technology. Chitosan is a biopolymer, non-toxic, and the nitrogen atom in the amine and hydroxyl group has free electron, so that can be used as an electrolyte polymer which has good ionic conductivity and can be fabricated as batteries. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of polymer electrolyte chitosan-PVA batteries with addition of ammonium nitrate. The best material formulation obtained of polymer electrolyte made from 40 wt% chitosan, 60 wt% PVA, and 6% glutaraldehida. SEM showed that the polymer electrolyte formed was very homogeneous. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed an amorphous structure. The ion conductivity tends to increased along with the increasing of added ammonium nitrate. The conductivity value obtained was 2.2 x 10 -5  S cm  for the sample by addition ammonium nitrate 35 wt%. Chitosan-PVA based battery has voltage 0.95 V, electric current 0.7 mA, and can show a color fading along with decreasing battery power. With this character it can be developed as smart battery. Abstract

Budidaya udang di Indonesia berkembang dengan cukup pesat karena udang merupakan salah satusumber devisa bagi negara. Akan tetapi perkembangan ini menghadapi permasalahan seperti adanyapenyakit bakterial. Salah satu bakteri patogen pada budidaya udang adalah Vibrio sp. Upaya untukmengatasi hal ini dapat dilakukan antara lain dengan menggunakan bahan antibakteria S. costatum. Padapenelitian ini, kulitivasi diatum S. costatum dilakukan dalam botol schott yang berisi f medium yangdilengkapi dengan aerator dan cahaya dengan intensitas 2000 luks. Kulivitasi dilakukan pada suhu 25oC.Kurva pertumbuhan S. costatum ditentukan dengan menghitung jumlah sel setiap harinya. Untuk ekstraksiantibakteri, kultur dipanen pada hari ke-6, selanjutnya dilakukan ekstraksi terhadap biomasanya denganmenggunakan metanol untuk mendapatkan ekstrak antibakteri. Ekstrak antibakteri ini diujikan pada bakteriVibrio sp dengan metode difusi agar. Hasil pengujian terhadap aktivitas penghambatan bakteri tersebutmenunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kasar (crude) intraseluler S. costatum mampu menghambat pertumbuhanbakteri Vibrio sp dengan potensi hambatan (inhibitor potention) 75,47% (pada konstertasi ekstrak 2000ppm), 52,08% (pada 1000 ppm), 30,43% (pada 500 ppm), 23,81% (pada 250 ppm) dan 15,79% (pada 100ppm) dibandingkan dengan kloramfenikol.Key word: antibakteri, Skeletonema costatum, Vibrio

Abstract

Smart packaging that can detect the level of quality deterioration of fish is a new inspiration in providing the sense of practicality, quality assurance and food safety of fishery products in the future. Analysis of optical characteristics and dynamic nature of the response to the smart packaging with 48 mL chitosan-acetic 1% (w/v), 48 mL polyvinyl alcohol 1% (w/v) and 4 mL bromthmol blue indicator 0.2% based shows the real trend in detecting spoilage rate of tilapia fillet. Smart packaging visually can provide patterns of color changes from yellow to dark yellow next turn into green and the last become turquise during the process of fish spoilage. The spoilage rates observed of tilapia fillet with a parameter test value TVBN and TBC, showed the same tendency in detecting spoilage rate tilapia fillet, where the TVBN rate increased from 8.40+_0.40 mg N/100 g at the 0 hour to 52.36+_1.98 mg N/100 g at 15 hours and TBC rates from log 4.35+_0.07 (2.3x10 pangkat 4) CFU/g at the 0 hour to log 9.11+_0.05 (1.3x10 pangkat 9) CFU/g log at 15 hours.Keywords: fish spoilage, smart packaging, tilapia fillet.

Abstract

The development of modern rapid detection techniques of fish freshness requires a new perspective of the importance of physical chemical characteristics during deterioration process of quality fishery products. Positive correlation between the changes of fish body and the electrical properties is a basic information for support the development of the detection modern techniques of fish freshness. Studies of the electrical properties become more relevant along with the increasing demand of fish fast food consumption and fish product from freshwater aquaculture, which have been less done until now. The objective of this study was to detect freshness of tilapia fillets using bioelectrical properties. The result showed that level of freshness of tilapia fillet can be detected by using bioelectrical which has correlation with TVB, TPC and pH. The level of freshness of tilapia fillet during 16 hours observation showed that impedance tend to decrease with the range of 44.34-6.30 Ω, while dielectric constant and the electrical conductivity tend to increase with range of 178,208 to 2,812,764 and 0.065 to 0.487 S/m.Key words: bioelectrical, fish freshness, tilapia fillet, quality deterioration
