Abstract

The Surabaya River plays an important role as water supply of the Surabaya PDAM, irrigation, industry, transportation, and means of recreation. However, domestic, industrial, and agricultural waste that were discharged into the river stream polluted the Surabaya River and decreased the carrying capacity and assimilative capacity. Therefore, effort to monitor and control the Surabaya River water pollution need to be well organized and implemented. The aim of the research is to develop a model of water pollution control on Surabaya River region. The research was carried out based on field survey, in situ and laboratory sample examination, questionnaire, and expert judgment. Pollution control model developed in this study was built into three sub-models, namely: (1) ecology sub-model, (2) social sub-model, and (3) economy sub-model using powersim constructor 2.5 version. Pollution control scenarios were developed using prospective analysis. The results of water pollution parameters such as TSS, DO, BOD, COD, N-NO2, and the level of mercury (Hg) were higher than the allowable class 1 standard. The sources of Surabaya River pollution mainly are domestic and industrial waste with total load of BOD, COD, and TSS are 55.49, 132.58, and 210.13 ton/day, respectively. According to water quality status, the Surabaya River is categorized as heavy polluted and the loading pollution need to be decreased. By using prospective analysis, there were five important factors that affect the future of the Surabaya River water pollution control, i.e.: (1) population growth and community awareness, (2) community perception, (3) implementation of regulations, (4) commitment/local government support, and (5) system and institutional capacity. There are three development scenarios, that are pessimistic, moderate and optimistic. The moderate and optimistic scenario are the realistic scenarios that occur in the future for Surabaya River water pollution control in considering of ecology, social and economy aspects.

Abstract

Seagrasses, one of the important ecosystems in Indonesian coastal waters, have declined mostly due to a variety of multi-sector (i.e. ecology, socio-economy, technology and institution) anthropogenic disturbances. The decline and loss of seagrass meadows will have an effect not only on biodiversity and fisheries productivity within the ecosystems but also on the adjacent ecosystems (coral reef and mangrove forest), and even the effect will spread out far to the outside of the areas where seagrass grow.  Seagrass ecosystems management in Indonesia is urgently required as part of fisheries management. However, this concept has not been understood by most of Indonesian people, including some government officials. Consequently, the seagrass ecosystems are still marginalized in the coastal resource management practices in Indonesia. In order to sustain fisheries productivity, knowledge of impact scales of each seagrass-related multi-sector human activities are very important as one of basic requirements in designing an effective seagrass management.

Abstract

Rupat Strait is one of small strait in Malacca Strait which located in among coastal of TownDumai area with the Rupat Island in Riau Province. Position of Rupat Strait semi-closed withthe condition of semi-diurnal tide has potency to cause the happening of oil accumulation interritorial water which can generate the damage of ecosystem territorial waters. Strait Rupatown the variety of various type mangrove representing habitat of various fish type and protectthe coast from wave and aberration. Various transportation activity, processing and oildistribution in coastal area of Dumai cause the territorial water of Strait of Rupat gristle to oilcontamination. Lubuk Gaung is a very sensitive regional to oil contamination. Pulau Ketam is asensitive criteria, but region Pelintung is inclusive of middle criteria untill is not sensitivity.

Abstract

Perairan Teluk Jakarta, Banten, dan Lada telah mengalami pencemaran, terutama tercemar oleh logam berat seperti Pb, Cd, Cr dan Hg. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan logam tersebut dalam gonad kerang hijau (Perna viridis) dan pengaruh akumulasi logam tersebut pada spermatogenesis kerang hijau. Parameter yang diamati adalah jumlah spermatogenium, spermatosit primer, spermatosit sekunder, spermatozoa, total se-sel kelamin, diameter, luas dan volume lumen folikel gonad kerang hijau, pada tingkat IV spermatogenesis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa gonad kerang hijau yang berasal dari Teluk Jakarta telah terakumulasi logam berat Pb = 359.75±272.41 ppb; Cd = 36.559±21.90 ppb; Cr = 504.21±448.64 ppb dan Hg = 0.0092± 0.0085 ppb. Logam Cd (13.13 ppb) dan Pb (0.077 ppm) ditemukan dalam gonad kerang hijau yang berasal dari Teluk Banten, tetapi tidak terdeteksi logam Cr dan Hg. Namun tidak ditemukan logam berat tersebut dalam gonad kerang hijau berasal dari Teluk Lada. Di Teluk Jakarta ditemukan korelasi antara kandungan logam Cd terhadap perkembangan jumlah sel spermatozoa (r = 0.64), total sel kelamin (r = 0.60, diameter (r = 0.57), luas (r = 0.71) and volume (r = 0.71) lumen folikel gonad. Logam Hg berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan spermatogenium (r = 0.68) dan spermatosit sekunder (r = 0.61), sedangkan logam Cr mempunyai pengaruh terhadap luas (r = 0.75) dan volume (r = 0.75) lumen folikel gonad.Kata kunci: akumulasi, logam berat, spermatogenesis dan kerang hijau.

Abstract

Udang windu merupakan hewan air yang bersifat nokturnal, sehingga pertumbuhannya di ruangan yang gelap akan lebih baik dibangidngkan di ruangan yang terang benderang. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh intensitas cahaya terhadap pertumbuhan, derajat kelangsungan hidupnya serta pengaruhnya terhadap kualitas larva.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebiasaan makan tiram mutiara Pintada maxima. Penelitian dilaksanakan dari bulan Juni 2003 sampai Februari 2004 di perairan Teluk Sekotong Propinsi Lombok. Pengambilan contoh fitoplankton di perairan dilakukan setiap 3 jam sekali selama 24 jam antara pukul 06.00 - 03.00 WIB. Pada setiap pemgamatan diambil sebanyak 8 ekor tiram mutiara untuk sekali pengamatan. Untukmemperoleh gambaran kebiasaan makan tiram mutiara dilakukan analisis indeks pilihan. Pintada maxima memakan semua fitoplankton yang ada di lingkungannya. Tiram mutiara tidak melakukan seleksi terhadap jenis makanannya yang terdapat di alam, tetapi menyeleksi makanannya berdasarkan ukuran makanannya. Tiram mutiara menyukai makanan yang memiliki ukuran lebih kecil. Persentase jenis-jenis fitoplanktonyang disukai tiram mutiara berturut-turut adalah kelas Bacillariophyceae, Dinophyceae, Ciliata, Chrisophyta, Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae dan moluska.Kata kunci: kebiasaan makan, Pintada maxima, Teluk Sekotong

Abstract

Belut (Monopterus albus) bersifat hermaprodit protogini, yang mengalami perubahan jenis kelamin dari betina menjadi jantan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan perubahan jenis kelamin dengan ukuran tubuh ikan belut. Penelitian berlangsung di Desa Kahuripan, Kecamatan Tawang, Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat dari Juni sampai Juli 2002. Pengambilan contoh dilakukan secara acak sebanyak 11 kali, tiga hari sekali pada pukul 20.00 – 04.00 WIB, di tiga stasiun. Dari hasil penangkapan didapat 162 ekor belut, di stasiun I 67 ekor, stasiun II 65 ekor dan stasiun III 30 ekor. Hasil tangkapan paling banyak berukuran 22.8 - 26.7 cm. Hasil tangkapan stasiun I dan II relatif sama sedangkan pada stasiun III berbeda. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa panjang belut yang berukuran kurang dari atau sama dengan 29 cm berjenis kelamin betina namun yang lebih dari 29 cm berjenis kelamin jantan. Belut yang matang gonad pada stasiun I berukuran 24.9 - 28.8 cm, pada stasiun II, 19.0 - 23.1 cm dan 23.2 - 27.3 cm. Sedangkan di stasiun III tidak ditemukan yang matang gonad. Berdasarkan IKG belut yang diperoleh di ketiga stasiun, IKG terbanyak ada pada selang kelas IKG 0.0124 - 0.0873. Fekunditas 35 - 250 butir dengan ukuran telur 0.0265 - 1.2624 mm, dengan pola pemijahan sebagian (partial spawner).Kata kunci: belut, hermaprodit protogini, jenis kelamin, ukuran, IKG, fekunditas. The research was aimed to study body size and sexual changes relationship in a protoginy hermaphrodite species the eel, monopterus albus. This research were conducted in Kahuripan village, district of Tawang, Tasikmalaya, West Java during June to July 2002. Sampling were done at three stations for eleven time, with 3 days interval between 20.00 pm until 04.00 am. The number of eel collected were consisting of 162, ie 67; 65 and 30 from the first, second and third station respectively. The length of the eel were ranged between 22.8 - 26.7 cm. The results showed that the eel less than or equal to 29 cm in length were female, more than 29 cm were male. The mature eel were found in the first and second stations with body size of 24.9 - 28.8 cm, 19.0 - 23.1 cm, respectively. IKG values were varied between 0.0124 - 0.0873, fecundity between 35 - 250 egg, and egg diameter between 0.0265 - 1.2624 mm. Based on egg diameter, eel is considered as partial spawner.Key words: eel, protoginy hermaphrodite, sexuality, body size, IKG and fecundity.

Abstract

This research was designed to evaluate the biological reproduction aspect of Binuangeun broodstock and also the larval biological aspects and larval qualities. The broodstock were brought to the hatchery of BADP - Labuan Pandeglang. A total of 40 broodstock, 10 female and 10 male from Binuangeun and then 10 female and 10 male from Aceh. Fecundity average from this research from Binuangeunand Aceh was 451.657 and 565.916. The average hatching rate of Binuangeun broodstock was 66,8%, with the average larval survival rate (SR) of nauplii-zoea 63.7%; zoea-mysis 59,8%; mysis-PL1 78,0%; PLI - PL17 80,0% and nauplii - PLI7 23,19%. The average hatching rate (HR) of Aceh broodstock 73,30%; with the average SR of nauplii - zoea 61,7%, zoea - mysis 46,2%, mysis - PLI 77,00/0; PLI - PL17 73,4% and nauplii - PLI7 15,92%. In this research fecundity on the first higher than the second. In this reseach the fecundity rises cause hatching rate decrease, but the hatching rate rises cause the larval survival rate rises too. The quality of broodstock and the larvae of tiger prawn from Binuangen the same as the quality of broodstock and larvae of tiger prawn from Aceh.

Abstract

Selected bacterial isolates from a Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp culture system and gut environment were assessed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing method to identify their identity and to construct their phylogenetic relationship. In a preliminary study, a total of 19 isolates were selected as probiotics. These isolates were prepared using freeze and heat-shock method to obtain the DNA template. PCR amplification of 16S ribosomal RNA gene of isolates was carried out using bacterial universal primers 9F and 1510R and was sequenced using an automated DNA sequencer. These gene sequences were compared with other gene sequences in the GenBank database (NCBI) using a BLAST search to find closely related sequences. Alignment of these sequences with sequences available from GenBank database was carried out to construct a phylogenetic tree for these bacteria. Most of the isolates obtained, i.e. 17 out of the 19 isolates, belonged to different species of Bacillus, sharing 95 to 99% 16S ribosomal RNA identity with the respective type-strain, whereas the remaining 2 isolates belonged to Micrococcus sp. and Micrococcus luteus with 97 to 99% 16S rRNA homology, consecutively.

Abstract

Cirata lake is often used to throw garbage and wasted water (domestic, industrial andagricultural waste). It is causing pollution. One of the pollution subtances is heavy metallike mercury (Hg), plumbum (Pb), Cromium (Cr) and cadmium (Cd). Heavy metalpollution will create negative effect on living organism. Heavy metals may becomecarcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic agent. The aim of this research is to evaluateheavy metals in fish that were cultured in pan culture in Cirata Lake. The research wereconducted in three steps, i.e. to determine water quality (physical and chemicalparameters), to determine heavy metals pollution and to determine heavy metalscontamination in fishes were cultured in pan cultured, especially in gill, liver, lymph andmeat. The result of the research revealed that water quality in Cirata Lake was goodenough category, but that lake was polluted by heavy metals (Pb, Cd and Hg). Thecultured fishes in pan cultured (Cyprinus carpio and Oreochromis niliticus) were highcontaminated by heavy metals, especially in gill, liver and lymph; but heavy metalscontamination on meat is lower than gill, liver and lymph. The meat of cultured fishes inpan cultured in Cirata Lake is relatively being safe for consumption.
