Abstract

The development of negative construction in the language of an Indonesian child is examined. The data were the male childs utterances recorded for one year, from age 1;6 to 2;6, in a naturalistic parental participant observation. The results of data analysis seem to lead to a confirmation that the linguistic behaviors of language-acquiring children at the same time reflect species-specific, language-specific, and individual-specific processes of language acquisition.

Abstract

Children are believed to employ universal processes in simplifying adult language words to match their developing phonology. The present paper is intended to describe the phonological processes used by three Indonesian children aged between 1;8 and 2;6. There is an indication that the utilization of the processes might be not only quantitatively but also qualitatively age-related, and that the processes might actually be of three types: universal (species-specific), local (language-specific), and idiosyncratic (individual-specific).

Abstract

The objectives of the research are: a)  to design a speaking English learning in form of appropriate Lesson Plan using 4/3/2 technique at SMA N 1 Gedongtataan pesawaran lampung; b) to describe the implementation of appropriate speaking English learning using4/3/2 technique at SMA N 1 Gedongtataan; c) to arrange an appropriate evaluation system of speaking English learning using 4/3/2 technique. The subjects of the research were 32 students of special class of X b. The results showed that by the implementation of 4/3/2 technique, there were improvements not only in  students’ speaking ability but also in the improvements of students’ learning activities. The improvement of the speaking abilities can be seen from various aspects: comprehension, fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary. This means that at the initial position the students score of speaking was 59.37 percent at cycle I, then it increased to 81.25 percent at the second sycle, and finally increased to 93.62 percent at the third cycle.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: a) mendesain pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk RPP yang  tepat dengan menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2 di SMA Negeri I Gedongtataan Pesawaran Lampung, b) mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan tepat menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2 di SMA Negeri 1 Gedongtataan, c) menyusun sistem evaluasi pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris yang tepat dengan menggunakan Teknik 4/3/2. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas unggulan X b yang berjumlah 32 orang. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan dengan penggunaan teknik 4/3/2 adanya peningkatan baik dalam hal kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris, maupun dalam aktivitas belajar siswa. Peningkatan kemampuan berbicara terlihat dari berbagai aspek baik dalam hal comprehension, fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary , yakni yang semula hanya 59,37 persen pda siklus I meningkat menjadi 81,25 persen pada siklus II, dan 93,62 persen  pada siklus III. Abstract

The method of this research is a qualitative one, through exploratory study and describing the research focus. This research conducted in the Institute of Education and Training of Lampung Province along 2011. The data of the research are achieved from a natural setting in the Institute. The data achievements were supported by managers of the Institute such as; an Institute Leader, a Secretary, division leaders of ;inter institutes relationship, employee up grading, technical skill training. The data are also achieved from the up grade manager level 3, and 4 training alumni, each 3 persons.The purposes of this research are; (a) to describe the method of organizational learning of the education and training institute of Lampung Province (b) to describe main reason why the learning method was chosen. (c) to describe process of organizational learning of the Institute. This research finds that; (a) method of organizational learning implemented in the research focus is adaptive learning one. In this matter, all members always effort to fulfill all of related regulations. They change to adapt with their environment. (b) The reconstructive learning for the organization is unable to implement. This kind of learning demands members to review goals determined. The method of Process learning/deutro learning as the highest learning level where all of the members always find new learning ways of organizational learning is not also implemented. These disabilities are caused by regulations of the organization and individuals’ disabilities. (c) The process of adaptive learning method can be implemented without design, if members of organization initiate to learn individually and always effort to obey to all of related regulations.Key words : organizational learning, education, training.

CORRELATION BETWEEN GRAMMAR MASTERY AND DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ABILITY

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu apakah ada hubungan antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa terhadap kemampuan menulis deskripsi. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes penguasaan tata bahasa dan tes menulis deskripsi. Hasil dari analisis menunjukan bahwa ada korelasi antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa dan  kemampuan menulis deskripsi mereka  sebesar 0.868 pada level signifikan dari 0.05 dengan nilai r tabel 0.361 dan nilai p nya 0.000. Hubungan antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa dan kemampuan mereka dalam menulis deskripsi dikatakan signifikan karena korelasi koefisien lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan  nilai r tabel (0.868> 0.61) dengan p (probability) 0.000 yang lebih kecil daripada 0.05. Semakin baik penguasaan tata bahasa seseorang maka semakin baik pula kemampuan menulis nya. Jadi, seseorang yang ingin memperbaiki kemampuan menulisnya harus mempelajari tata bahasa.The objective of this research is to find out whether there is correlation between the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing ability. The instruments to collect the data were grammar mastery test and descriptive writing test. The result of the analysis shows that there is a correlation of the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing to 0.868 at the significant level of 0.05 with the critical value of r table 0.361 and p was 0.000. The correlation of the students’ grammar mastery and their descriptive writing ability is significant since the coefficient correlation is higher than the critical value of r table (0.868 > 0.361) with p 0.000 which is less than 0.05. The better one’s grammar mastery the better his or her writing ability. Therefore, those who want to improve their writing ability should learn grammar.Keywords: correlation, descriptive writing ability, grammar mastery

Abstract

Abstract:The objective of this research is to find out whether peer correction canincrease students’ accuracy in writing descriptive text. The population and sampleof this research were the second year students of SMPN 22 Bandar Lampung thatis class VIII.H which consists of 30 students. This research was a quantitativeresearch. The data were collected by using two writing tests: pre-test and post-test.The hypothesis was tested using Paired Sample T-Test.The result of the test shows that there is a significant increase from the pre test topost test after being taught by using a peer correction. The application of thetechnique also increases three aspects in their accuracy in writing: grammar 43.67up to 67.33, vocabulary 47.33 up to 64.67, and spelling 47.33 up to 66.67.Based on the finding above, it can be concluded that peer correction can increasestudents’ accuracy in writing descriptive text. Peer correction is effective toincrease the students’ accuracy. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan materi pembelajaran kosakata tambahan untuk siswa sekolah dasar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 4 SD yang terdiri dari 25 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain modifikasi R & D (Research and Development cycle proposed by Borg & Gall) yang memiliki beberapa tahapan yakni uji kebutuhan, studi referens, pengembangan materi, uji validitas ahli, uji coba, dan produk. Data Penelitian dijaring menggunakan observasi, tes kosakata, lembar validasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa tidak bisa mempelajari kosakata lebih karena terbatas materi pembelajaran kosakata, weather, job, clothes, dan sport menjadi topik pengembangan materi kosakata tambahan dan uji validitas dari ahli I 81,53%, II 78,46%, III 84,61%, dan IV 78,46 % menunjukan bahwa produk yang dikategorikan baik. Dari hasil temuan dan proses dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk supplementary vocabulary ini dapat memfasilitasi siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata.The objective of this research was to develop supplementary vocabulary material for EFL young learners. The subject of this research was the fourth grade students of SD Alkautsar consisting of 25 students. This study used R & D cycle modified from R & D proposed by Ball and Gall. The data were collected using observation, vocabulary test, validation sheet, and interview. The result showed that the students couldn’t learn more vocabulary and they concerned to the grammatical focus because the activities and tasks were limited, weather, job, clothes and sports are the topics developed, and expert validation from expert I 81,53%, II 78,46%, III 84,61%, and IV 78,46 % showed that the product was categorized as good criteria. The findings and the process indicate that the product of the study which is in the form workbook can facilitate students learning vocabulary through supplementary vocabulary material.Keywords: material development, research and development, supplementary vocabulary.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILLS

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out how was the implementation of contextual teaching and learning in teaching speaking. The population of this research was the second grade of SMA Negeri 5 Bandar Lampung that consists of ten classes and one class was chosen as the sample where the research would be conducted. In collecting the data, the researcher observed the implementation of seven components of CTL during teaching learning process, observed of each student‟s involvement and distributed questionnaires to the students related to learning situation. The result of observation shows that almost all of the components of CTL were implemented good enough in both first and second meeting. It can be concluded that Contextual Teaching Learning is applicable to be used as teaching method in teaching speaking Keywords:CTL, speaking ability, speaking through CTL.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RECIPROCAL TECHNIQUE IN NARRATIVE TEXT TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) mengetahui apakah penerapan RTT di teks narasi dapat meningkatkan peningkatan pemahaman membaca siswa, dan 2) mengetahui masalah-maslah yang dihadapi siswa selama pengajaran membaca melalui RTT. Data diperoleh dari pre-test dan post-test dan juga dari observasi dan wawancara. Obyek penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPS. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 45.67 dan nilai rata-rata post-test mereka adalah 64.64, dimana peningkatan nilai mereka adalah 18.96. Berdasarkan observasi dan wawancara selama perlakuan, ada masalah-masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca melalui RTT. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa RTT dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dan siswa mempunyai masalah-masalah dalam penerapan empat strategi dari RTT.This research is aimed to: 1) find out whether implementing RTT in narrative text can increase the students’ reading comprehension achievement, and 2) find out the problems faced by the students in learning reading comprehension through RTT. The data were obtained from the pre-test and post-test and also from the observation and interview. The sample of this research was XI IPS 3 class. The result shows that the students’ mean score of the pre-test is 45.67 and their mean score of the post-test is 64.64, in which their gain score is 18.96. Based on the obsevation and interview during the treatments, there were problems faced by the students in learning reading comprehension through RTT. It can be concluded that RTT can increase the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text  and the students have problems in applying the four main strategies of RTT. Keywords: increase, reading comprehension, reciprocal Technique

Improving Students Speaking Ability Through Drill Technique

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk meneliti apakah ada perubahan signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa sebelum dan setelah menemukan pengajaran melalui teknik drill; (2) aspek berbicara manakah yang paling mengalami peningkatan sebelum dan setelah pengajaran melalui teknik drill. Penelitian ini menggunakan one group time series design. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1) Terdapat perubahan signifikan antara kemampuan berbicara siswa sebelum dan setelah pengajaran melalui teknik drill; (2) kelancaran adalah aspek berbicara yang mengalami peningkatan paling tinggi pada kemampuan berbicara siswa. Nilai signifikan (2-tailed) adalah (p=0.000, p<0.05), menunjukkan bahwa hipotesa diterima. Oleh karena itu, drill dapat diaplikasikan sebagai materi untuk meningkatkan bahasa Inggris siswa dalam kelas lisan. The objectives of the research are (1) to investigate whether there is any significant difference between students’ speaking ability before and after being taught through drill technique; (2) to find out which aspect of speaking ability is the most improved. This research applied one group time series design. The results show that: (1) there is a significant difference between the students’ speaking ability before and after being taught through drill technique; (2) Fluency is the most improved aspect in the students’ speaking ability. The significant (2-tailed) value was (p=0.000, p<0.05), it showed that the hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, drill can be applied as a technique to improve the students’ speaking ability.  Keywords: drill technique, speaking ability, teaching speaking
