Abstract

Background:Knowledge and attitude are factors influence smoking behavior among teenagers. Previous studies show that cigarette advertisements do not consistently affect on teenagers’ smoking behavior. This studyaimed to determine the association between cigarette advertisement exposure, knowledge, attitude, and smoking behavior among teenagers. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted during March 2012 among 98 students in SMP Negeri 01 Colomadu, Karanganyar. The sampling technique was a multistage cluster sampling. Cigarette advertisement exposure, knowledge, attitude, and smoking behavior data were collected using questionnaires, which were tested for its validity and reliability before. The data analyses used Spearman correlation and Chi-Square tests. Results:The study found a significant relationship between cigarette advertisement exposure and knowledge (r=-0.267; p=0.009). There was no significant relationship between cigarette advertisement exposure and teenagers’ attitude (r=-0.129; p=0.206). There were no significant relationships between cigarette advertisement exposure 1-10 times per week and past smoking(p=1,000; OR=0,917; CI95% 0,258-3,262),and with current smoking among teenagers (p=1,000; OR=0,971; CI95% 0,931-1,012). Cigarette advertisement exposure more than 11 per week increased a risk for past smoking 2.406 times (p=0,500; Cl95% 0,521-11,104), but not significantly. Conclusions:Cigarette advertisement exposure more than 11 per week associated with teenagers’ knowledge about cigarette and teenagers attitude to cigarette and smoking. There is no significant relationship between cigarette advertisement exposure and smoking behavior among teenagers. Keywords:cigarette advertisement, knowledge, attitude, behavior, and smoking.

Abstract

Background: Smoking behavior is one of the most widely spread health problem. One’s smoking behavior is very much determined by one’s knowledge of smoking behavior, where as such knowledge is also very much affected by one’s level of education. This research aims to determine the correlation between educational level and knowledge of smoking behavior to the severity of smoking habit. Methods: This research  is an observational analysis using cross-sectional. The study was conducted in Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University. The sample  was taken using Stratified Random Sampling and Quota Sampling. Approach with male smokers administration staffs, temporary employees, lecturers, and Faculty of Medicine of Sebelas Maret University class 2011, qualifying and disqualifying with inclusion criteria. Data retrieval is done by looking at the patient’s questionnaires. Data were analyzed using correlative non-parametric Spearman analysis method, with SPSS 17.00 for Windows. Results: There is a positive correlation between one’s educational level and the severity of one’s smoking habit, with correlation coefficient value as much as 0.165 and significance value (2-tailed) as much as 0.208. This findings show that there is a weak and insignificant relation between both variables. Moreover, there is a weak negative correlation between one’s educational level and one’s knowledge on smoking habit, with significance value (2-tailed) as much as 0.522 and correlation coefficient value as much as 0.078. there is also a negative correlation between one’s knowledge of smoking habit and the severity of one’s smoking habit, with significance value(2-tailed) as much as 0.589 and correlation coefficient value as much as 0.071. Conclusions: There is not any significant relation between one’s educational level and knowledge on smoking behavior to the severity of one’s smoking habit. Abstract

Background: Treatment adherence is a important factor for the recovery of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Many factors affect treatment adherence of pulmonary TB patients, one of which is a side effect of anti tuberculosis drugs. This study aims to analyze the influence of the side effects of anti tuberculosis drugs to the tuberculosis treatment adherence in BBKPM Surakarta. Method: This study was observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in June – July 2012 in BBKPM Surakarta. A total of 48 subjects were selected by purposive sampling method and pulmonary TB patients who have been selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data retrieval is done by looking at the patient’s medical records and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square analysis method, with SPSS 17.00 for Windows. Result: Data were analyzed with Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0,05 and freedom degrees of 1. Obtained p value of 0.044, which means there is influence of the side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs to the tuberculosis treatment adherence in BBKPM         Surakarta. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is influence of the side effects of anti tuberculosis drugs to the tuberculosis treatment adherence in Surakarta BBKPM. Abstract

Background: Online games addiction experienced by vulnerable adolescents, especially in early adolescence. In the early teens, they tend to follow what was done by their peers to get an admission in a group. Addiction online games have negative consequences such as lack of sleep, anxiety, apathy correlated to decreased academic achievement. This study aimed to determine the relationship between addiction online games with the level of learning achievement in early adolescence. Methods: this study was a descriptive analytic cross-sectional study approach (cross-sectional) are held from May to July 2012 in the Junior High School 20 Surakarta. Total of 60 subjects sampled by simple random sampling method. Junior High School 20 students Surakarta eighth grade were asked to fill Youngs Diagnostic Questionnaire (YDQ) Lie Scale and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-L). Data were analyzed using independent t test and χ2 test. Results: Based on the results obtained from the 31 students who have addiction online games, 26 students have poor academic achievement and 5 students have a good learning achievement. Statistical analysis demonstrated an association between internet addiction with learning achievement levels in the Junior High School 20 Surakarta (p = 0.000). Conclusions: There is a relationship between addiction online games with the level of student achievement in the Junior High School 20 Surakarta. Abstract

Background:Recently the role of mothers in child parenting replace by caregivers because many mothers also act as workforces. The role of parenting especially during meal is very important in determining the nutritional status of children. This studyaim is to determine whetherlevel ofknowledgehas strong relationshipwithfeeding patternandnutritional status of children. Methods:This studyis anobservationalstudywith crosssectionalanalytic. The researchwas conducted inApril-June2013 in theworking area ofSangkrahHealth Center, Surakarta. Sample of121caregiversandtheir childrenwereselectedby multistage areasampling .Examined variables includingcaregiver’slevelof knowledgeas independent variable, and feeding patternandnutritional status of childrenas dependent variable. ThisresearchusesCaregiver’sFeedingStyleQuestionnairetodeterminefeeding patternandQuestionnaire of Knowledge Leveltomeasure thelevel ofcaregiver’sknowledge. Bothquestionnaireshave beentestedfor validity and reliability. Nutritional status ismeasuredbystandard anthropometry method. Data wereanalyzedby SPSS 17 for Windows usingKendalls Taumodels. Results:This studyshows there is no significant correlation between the degree ofcaregiver’s knowledge andfeeding pattern(correlation coefficient  = 0.132; degree of significance = 0.110) besides there is also no significant correlation between the degree ofcaregiver’s knowledgeand children’snutritional status(correlation coefficient = 0.030; degree of significance = 0.716). Conclusions:There is nostatistically significantrelationshipbetween thedegree ofcaregiver’sknowledgewithfeeding patternandthe nutritional status ofchildren. Abstract

Introduction: Rabies is a disease of animals (usually vertebrate) which is zoonotic (transmissible to humans). Rabies occurs in 24 out of the 34 provinces of Indonesia. Rabies is caused by a virus in the Family: Rhabdivoridae, Genus: Lyssavirus. Control the dog population and dog vaccination is effective and economical method to prevent the incidences of rabies in humans. This study aims to investigate the relationship between level of knowledge and attitude to the practice in prevention rabies infection in residents lived in area covered by Puskesmas Kuta II.Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study and carried out by simple random sampling of 96 residents in the area of Puskesmas Kuta II. In this study, the independent variables are knowledge of and attitudes towards rabies disease while the dependent variable is the practice to prevent rabies infection in human. Data were collected by a questionnaire-based interview. Analyses were then carried out using the chi-square (x2) followed by multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regressions.Results: This study showed that knowledge has a significant relationship with practice for rabies disease prevention (p = 0.013; OR 4.240; 95% CI 1.352 up to 13.296). Attitude has a significant positive relationship with the value of practice for rabies disease prevention (p = 0.015; OR 3.073; 95% CI 1.233 up to 7.627). The combined effect of knowledge and attitudes to practice for rabies prevention were approximately 20.90% (Negerkerke R square = 0.209).Conclusions: There was a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes with the practice for rabies disease prevention in residents in the area of Puskesmas Kuta II, the higher level of knowledge and improved attitudes will improve practice for rabies disease prevention amongst residents in the area of Puskesmas Kuta II. Key words: Rabies;  Rabies;  Preventio; Knowledge; Attitude;  Practice
