Abstract

Accident and occupational diseases in traditional divers of Seram Regency, Maluku increase every year. Steps to socialize the prevention, also the know-how of diving technique must be taken by government institutions as well as non-governmental organizations. The purpose of this research is to learn the accidents and health disturbances experienced by divers and the correlation with diving activities of traditional divers in West Seram County of Maluku Province. This is an observational study carried out from July until December 2010 using cross sectional method. The population is traditional divers in Piru District, West Seram Regency of Maluku Province. Samples are taken from a selected population as many as 38 respondents. Variables observed are respondent’s characteristics, experienced accidents, health disturbances and diving activities. Data is collected through observation and direct interviews using questionnaires and interview guidelines. The collected data is analyzed descriptively in frequency table, graphic and cross tabulation forms. The research result showed that respondents’ age was 16-55 years old, work tenure was 2 months to 20 years, 81.6% was married, education ranged from no schooling to high school graduates. Experienced accidents consisted of scratched by corals, bitten by fish and corals, poisonous sea animals, compressor pipe was trapped, and drowned. Health disturbances experienced by divers were bleeding, headache, pain in joints and backbone, blurred vision, deaf, excessive fatigue, itchiness, tremor, unconscious/faint, difficulty in urinating, and vertigo. Respondents dived from 5-120 minutes, dived in 5-25 meters underwater, diving activity was done everyday (76.3%) and 68.4% used compressor. Factors of diving gear, work tenure, length and depth of diving, and diving frequency had a tendency to affect diver’s accident; while factors of diving gear, work tenure, length and depth of diving, and diving frequency had a tendency to affect diver’s health disturbances. To protect divers, it is suggested to implement the SAFE (slowly ascend for every dive) principle for every diver, to do “safety stop” while ascending, and enough interval before next diving.Keywords: accident, health disturbances, traditional divers

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main contaminant of cotton dust is generated during the spinning process in PT. Lotus Indah Textile, Surabaya so that the workforce has the risk of occupational diseases, especially respiratory diseases. To prevent or reduce the incidence of cotton dust in the workplace, it is necessary prevention and control efforts.The purpose of this study was to analyze factors associated with respiratory complaints in the spinning labor in PT. Lotus Indah Textile, Surabaya.This study uses observational methods are analyzed analytically. Objectives of this study consisted of 54 people working on the mixing process of spinning cotton dust. Variables of the study include. Independent variables of individual characteristics include age, gender, employment, smoking habit, the habit of wearing PPE, including respiratory complaints dependent variable, and control measures against cotton dust. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires to respondents using the questionnaire format, and direct observation to the job site. From the survey results revealed that 38.2% male sex. As much as 96.3% had high school education or equivalent level. A total of 54.5% have a service life> 10 years. All male respondents smoked. The measured total dust levels were 1.73 mg / m³. A total of 55.6% sometimes wear PPE / mask while working. Some 29.1% had cough, 26.8% had nasal congestion, throat pain 21.7%, 20.7% had shortness of breath, and 1.7% had tightness and cough. Control efforts undertaken include mechanical or engineering control with dust collector, with the administrative control of training, maintenance, housekeeping, sanitary facilities health and safety, job rotation and controlling the use of PPE (masks).It is recommended to do the procurement of personal protective equipment. Cleanup should be cleaned by wetting. Education and training should be done about the dangers of cotton dust on a continuous worker. And needs to be done by monitoring the workplace environment and the maintenance company.Key words: respiratory complaints, cotton dust, and control efforts

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk management of two pointsuspendedpowerscaffoldworkeronthethirdpackageofPPBIBKSO Adhi-Wika.Thisstudywasconductedwith crosssectionalapproachandobservationalanalyticledesigncausedthisstudyperformedtheactualfactinthefieldofKSO Adhi-Wikanumbericallyusingsemiquantitativetableandnarrative.Observationalandinterviewmethodsusedtocollect primarydata.Subjectinthisstudywasatwopointsuspendedpowerscaffoldworker.Variablesinthisstudywerehazard identification,riskassessment,riskcontroleffectiveness,andresidualrisk.Theresultofthisstudyshowed53potential hazards with 30 lower risks, 6 moderate risks, and 23 high risks. Risk control effectiveness was resulted by risk control procedureimplementationassessment thatbasedoninspectionsoutputofoperator,equipment,andenvironmentsince assemblies until operational of two point suspended power scaffold which ranged from 0% until 80%. Risk management analysisresultedresidual risksconsist of 25lower risks,11moderate risks,and5high risks.Thesuggestion can be given ofthisstudyisEHSofKSOAdhi-Wikashoulddevelopmorespesificregulationofworkingwithtwopointsuspendedpower scaffold and evaluate their implementation of risk control to minimize residual risk of this activities because it contains high risk of falling from the height. Keywords: hazard identification,residual risk, risk management, and two point suspended power scaffold

Abstract

Oil and gas industry have high hazard potential. Some of major hazard in the oil and gas industry are fire hazard, gas explosion, and gas poisoning. PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field have Safe Work Permit System (SIKA) to prevent potential hazard in workplace. This research aims to study the SIKA procedure and its implementation in PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field. This research is a qualitative study and conducted with cross sectional approach. Data used in the research are primary data and secondary data.  The result obtained from this research is PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field have multiple type of SIKA such as SIKA for hot operation, cold operation, digging, and confined space. SIKA form contained about the job description, location, amount of workers,inherent dangers, job requrements  such as Job Safety Analysis, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, ventilation, etc) and parties that responsible in the SIKA implementation. Implementation that have been observed compared and analyzed with current regulation  applied in PT. Pertamina EP Asset 2. Based on the result, implementation of SIKA has gone well.  SIKA have not well distributed across the field. Advice that can be given is the SIKA Document distributed in accordance with the relevant parties.Keywords : work permit,analysis, implementation

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was conducted to analyze the relation between body position with musculoskeletal complaints in welding unit of PT. X Bekasi. Welding is an important part of a steel fabrication company. Workers in the welding influenced by the position of work, the posture of their body of work and performance at work. Jobs that forced the labor to not an ergonomic posture when working cause workers had faster experience fatigue and indirectly provide additional workload. Health effects that arised as a result of an unergonomic worked postures are musculoskeletal disorders .This research is an observational research with cross sectional approach design. 32 workers were chosen as sample by using simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained by measuring, observing used Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and filling out questionnaire Nordic Body Map (NBM). Spearman rho correlation test was used to analyse the relation between variables. As many as 68.6% workers had a weak risk of having musculoskeletal disorder (REBA score of 4-7) and 62.5% workers had a weak level of musculoskeletal complaint. Based on the results of this study concluded that body position were significantly related to musculoskeletal complaints. There was a weak significant relationship between body position and musculoskeletal complaints (pvalue= 0.005). It is suggested to companies that provide training on ergonomic working position when welding perform. Keywords: Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), Nordic Body Map (NBM), body position and musculoskeletal complaints

Abstract

Kalijompo Plantation is one of rubber plantations in Jember. One of rubber production is rubber tapping that is done not only by male but also female workers. One of the factors that can affect productivity is nutrition status. Nutrition status is influenced by the adequancy of nutrients, especially carbohydrates, fats, and proteins as energy producers. The purpose of this research was to study the correlation between carbohydrates, fats, and proteins intake with nutrition status in female tap rubber workers of Kalijompo Plantation in Jember. This research was analytical observational research and had a cross sectional design. The population of this research were all female tap rubber workers of Kalijompo Plantation in Jember with the sample consisted of 33 respondents. The variables of this research carbohydrates intake, fats intake, proteins intake, and nutrition status. Data collection included measurement of weight body, measurement of height body, and food recall 1x24 hours.The results showed that there was no correlation between carbohydrates intake with nutrition status (p=0.968), there was no correlation between fats intake with nutrition status (p=0.646), and there was no correlation between proteins intake with nutrition status (p=0.679). The conclusion of this research was the intake of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are not factors that can affect good or bad nutrition status in female rubber tapping workers of Kalijompo Plantation in Jember.

Abstract

The hospital have a high risk of occupational diseases and accidents at work. Medical waste can transmission of the disease on the medical waste management officers. Therefore, it was necessary to minimize accidents and disease transmission. The purpose of this research to identify hazards, risk analysis, risk evaluation, and the control efforts on the management of medical waste in Lamongan Muhammadiyah Hospital.  This was a cross sectional study with descriptive analysis. Interviews and observations conducted at 6 medical waste management officers. The research variables are potential hazards, level of risk and control efforts on the hospitals medical waste management. Potential hazards found in this research that the noise hazard, high temperature, moisture, puncture wounds, contact with medical waste, contamination, disease transmission, injury, and muscle fatigue. Based on the risk analysis found that exposure levels were categorized with high frequency. Found the risk of risk evaluation in this study is that containing a very high risk, risk priority 1, big risk, risk priority 3, and acceptable risk. Control measures undertaken by the hospital to the risk that controls with engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment (PPE).  The efforts should be by the medical waste management officers to reduce the risk with used the personal protective equipment (PPE) that have been provided by the hospital at work.Keywords: hazard identification, risk assessment, medical waste

Abstract

Working at night can causes some impacts on shift worker’s life, such as their health, safety and also social life. Sleep disturbance is one of the impacts from working at night, and it will influenced their health and safety, as well as the social life of shift workers. This condition will increased the risk of work accident on night shift. The purpose of this research is to study the relationship between sleep disturbance and work accident at cargo handling terminal. This research is categorized as case-control research, and using primary data that retrieved by giving questionnaires to the shift workers. The result of statistical test which using Chi-Square test shows that there is a relationship between sleep disturbance in shift workers and the work accident at cargo handling terminal (0.0015 <0.005). The relationship value between this two variable is 0.322. The effort that can be done to lower the sleep disturbance is doing a good combination of adequate hours of sleep and proper consumption of caffeine. Keywords:  accident, loading and dismantling container port, night work, shift worker, sleep disturbance.

Abstract

PT. X is a company in steel structure construction and fabricator pole field. In the company’s Workshop, there are bending, shearing, and cutting processes. The basic causation of work accident are unsafe behavior and unsafe condition. This research aims to analyze the safe behavior of construction workers with Behavior-Based Safety approach in the stage of define and observe of The DO IT Process, with the ABC (Activator, Behavior, and Consequence) model. This is an observational descriptive research with the cross-sectional design. The respondents of this research are 30 construction workers in Workshop of PT. X. The results of this research showed that all workers have good awareness; 93,3% of construction workers have good knowledge; 93,1% have good perception; 92,7% have good motivation; 93,3% stated that the safety needs had been fulfilled; 93,3% of construction workers stated that the existing safety rules of the company had been implemented; 90% of construction workers ever got positive reinforcement; 85,7% of construction workers ever got punishment; the construction workers stated that safety training and management role of the company had been implemented. The result also showed the construction workers largely did safety behavior at work. In order to improve safe behavior, the company needs to give training to all construction workers, implement SOP consistently, evaluate and monitor the worker’s behavior, and implement the Behavior-Based Safety program (The DO IT Process).Keywords: safe behavior, behavior-based safety, construction company
