Abstract

Extension of jatropha planting on coastal sandy soil is an effort to look for an alternatif area to other soil types, this experiment is one of a series experiment aiming to classify jatropha based on their drought resistance, and to determine watering interval causing drought stress. The experiment was arranged using Split Plot Design with watering interval (once in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 day (s)) as main plot, and jatropha genotypes (IP-1A, IP-1M, IP-1P, IP-2A, IP-2M, IP-2P, Unggul Lokal (NTB), Gundul and Daun Kuning) as sub plot. The seeds of genotypes were planted in black polybag with coastal sandy soil media. The parameters observed were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaf, leaf width and plant dry weight, and the data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance, DMRT, Regrression and Cluster Analysis. The result showed that IP-1A, IP-2M, Gundul and IP-1M are the resistant genotypes, whereas Unggul Lokal, Daun Kuning, IP-2A and IP-2P are the susceptible genotypes. Once in one and three day (s) are optimum watering intervals, and once in nine days is a watering interval causing drought stress. Keywords : jatropha, drought, watering, coastal sandy soil

Abstract

ABSTRACTDevelopment of Jatropha, an important tropical biofuel crop, to coastal sandy soil is an urgent situation due to more limited of fossil fuel in one side, and high potency of coastal sandy land that has not been utilized yet. Tolerant and sensitive genotypes of Jatropha were treated with drought stress using watering interval, and their responds on the vegetative growth and yield were studied in this reasearch. Drought stress significantly decreased all vegetative growth parameters observed, except the number of branch. Different jatropha genotypes had different number of branch, number of leaf, root surface area, total of root length, root diameter, plant dry weight, shoot root ratio and light absorption. IP-1A genotype had the highest yield, i.e 33.54 g of dry seed plant-1 (equal to 0.15 ton ha-1), in the first year.Keywords: biofuel, sand, watering

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the growth of seedling drum stick (Moringa oleifera Lam.). originatedfrom seed at different phases of transplanting. Has been done on aplir – juli 2017 at Dasanagung, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara.  This study used a complete randomized design (CRD) of one factor, namely: direct seed planting, fishing phase, needle phase, bud phase, and the first leaf phase blooms perfect. The results of this study showed that phase of transplanting has no significant effect on growth of seedling moringa plant. Both of fhising phase and needle phase are better of five transplanting’s phase.

Abstract

Lettuce and Moringa are recently popular vegetable crops because their demand improves significantly, and their development lead to dry land because its potencial in Indonesia is still high.  The use of dry land should be followed by applying inter cropping technique in order to make plant micro climate becomes more favourable. In addition, low soil fertility and intensive ussage of inorganic fertilizers makes the application of organic fertilizers imperative. The objective of the research is to investigate the type of organic fertilizer giving high yield of lettuce and moringa cultivated using inter cropping technique in dry land. The results showed that the organic fertilizers applied improved the plant growth and yield, and also improved the land equivalent ratio (LER).  The highest LER was showed by apllication of Organox, followed by  Bio Extrim and Biota Plus, and the lowest one showed by without organic fertilizer application.

Abstract

The experimental research is aimed to find out the kind of nursery organic media for better growth of drumstick seedling. It was implemented in January-April 2017 in the nursery field in Dasan Agung, Mataram. The treatments studied were kinds of nursery media including soil media, mixture of soil-sawdust, mixture of soil-cocopeat, mixture of soil-crushed corncobs, mixture of soil-bamboo leaf litter. The experiment design was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with 5 replications and each content of 5 serial experiment units. The result shows that the kind of seedling media significantly affected the growth to Moringa seedling growth. The soil-cocopeat mixture medium, soil-crushed corn cobs, and soil-bamboo leaf litter were the best medium and more suitable for drumstick seedling compared to soil media and soil-sawdust mixture media

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the selection response indirectly on the corn yield in dry land, and the yield improvements of yield due to seven cycles. The selection method used were mass selection with and without pollination controll. The method used to minimize environmental effect during selection was subdivided block that (subselection block divided into small plots). In each plot, there was 40 plants, and the number plants selected were 5 %. Randomized Completely Block Design was used to study the selection result. The data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance, and the difference between populations were tested using Least Significant Difference in 5 % significant level. The average of selection response per cycle every technique used was gained from polynomial regression coefficient among the characters observed with selection cycle The percentage of the corn yield improvement was gained from the difference between the seventh cycle and the base population, and then, substracted by the base population. The result showed that the response indirectly of mass selection with and without pollination controll were significantly linear, and the values were 47.88 and 72.80 g per plot, respectively. The yield improvements were 43.46 % and 79.21 %, respectively
