Abstract

Solar energy produced by concentrated solar heat collector panels requires tracking mechanisms for a more optimal direction. This paper presents the design and construction of a low energy solar tracking control system with telecontrol facilities. To accelerate the movement of the panel in always adjusting itself to the direction of the sun, a combination of the timer and light sensor was used. In this control system, the reference signal is taken from two pieces of light sensors while the feedback is taken from the position and temperature sensors. The program has been developed using C language and was implemented on the microcontroller ATMega8535 as the brain of the system. Telecontrol facilities for monitoring the data to a computer uses transceiver modules via RS-232 connection. A DC motor having power capacity of 0.74 watts was used and was clutched with 1:7,300 gearbox ratio. Experiments on light sensor characteristics and simulated movement of the panel were carried out. From the light sensor experiment it can be concluded that the sensor produces 0-4 volt output signal when bright 3.3-3.9 volts, when cloudy and 1.5-3.3 volts when sunny. From the simulation of panel movement, it is known that the solar tracking control system moves the panel and tracks the direction of the sun movement.

Abstract

This paper discusses the design of control system for brushless DC motor using microcontroller ATMega 16 that will be applied to an independent 4-wheel drive Mobile Robot LIPI version 2 (REV-11). The control system consists of two parts which are brushless DC motor control module and supervisory control module that coordinates the desired command to the motor control module. To control the REV-11 platform, supervisory control transmit the reference data of speed and direction of motor to control the speed and direction of each actuator on the platform REV-11. From the test results it is concluded that the designed control system work properly to coordinate and control the speed and direction of motion of the actuator motor REV-11 platform.

Abstract

Ocean Current Energy Conversion System (OCECS) is a promising green energy resource in this globe. The Thermohaline circulation data indicates that the Wallacea region has the potential of ocean current energy resources. This paper is aimed to propose research and development of OCECSs to be implemented in the Wallacea region. Firstly, four types of green energy conversion systems extracted from ocean are reviewed. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Secondly, the potential of OCECS in the Wallacea region is described. Third, many types of turbines used for OCECS are reviewed and the turbine type for OCECS is selected to be implemented in the Wallacea region. Fourth, control strategy is proposed.From the work reported in this paper it is concluded that it is appropriate to implement OCECSs using axial flow water turbines in the Wallacea region, and that to maximize energy conversion variable speed control approach is selected together with control of mechanism to move the turbine vertically as well as to rotate the turbine in yaw direction.

Abstract

This paper presents a design of vibration absorber using spring and rubber for 5.56 mm caliber rifle armored vehicle. Such a rifle is used in a Remote-Controlled Weapon System (RCWS) or a turret where it is fixed using a two degree of freedom pan-tilt mechanism. A half car lumped mass dynamic model of armored vehicles was derived. Numerical simulation was conducted using fourth order Runge Kutta method. Various types of vibration absorbers using spring and rubber with different configurations are installed in the elevation element. Vibration effects on horizontal direction, vertical direction and angular deviation of the elevation element was investigated. Three modes of fire were applied i.e. single fire, semi-automatic fire and automatic fire. From simulation results, it was concluded that the parallel configuration of damping rubber type 3, which has stiffness of 980,356.04 (N/m2) and damping coefficient of 107.37 (N.s/m), and Carbon steel spring whose stiffness coefficient is 5.547 x 106 (N/m2) provides the best vibration absorption.

Abstract

Vibration in a generator is an important factor in detail of design. To know the behavior of the vibration, a test is performed using vibratiometer. The aim in writing this paper is to obtain reference classification of vibration that can be viewed on a standard IEC 34-14 and DIN EN 60034-14. In this paper the results of testing, the value of velocity and acceleration, will be measured analytically so asto create value that can be used to compare the value of the test results with the value from 34-14 IEC and DIN EN 60034-14 standards.

Abstract

Abstract

Magneto rheological (MR) fluid has been used in various electro mechanical devices since it has advantages of being able to be controlled by external magnetic force. However, application of the MR fluid for linear brakes is still scarce. This article proposes a new design of linear MR brake. It has multiple magnetic poles, and its core can be connected in series inside the piston. Equations which express relationships between mechanical force and magnetic force as well as magnetic force and electric current have been derived. As a result, a polynomial function was obtained which expressed mechanical force of the brake as a function of electric current. Parameter values of geometric dimension and magnetic permeabilities of components were substituted into the equation, and a control law is proposed to control the brake force by manipulating current using the inverse of a linear function. When electric current of 1 A was supplied into the coil, brake force of 111.4 Newton was obtained. Various values of brake force can easily be realized by controlling electric current based on the derived linear function control law.

Abstract

The logistics packages sent consist of various types of sizes and weights, so shipping costs are determined by the weight and size or dimensions of the goods. Almost all logistics companies in Indonesia still use conventional and separate methods in determining the volume and weight of logistics packages that play a role in determining prices, namely by measuring the dimensions of logistics packages using meters to obtain volume and then measuring the weight using the scales. To overcome the above, the idea was to create an Automatic Bulk Measurement and Dimension Machine that can process volume and weight measurements automatically at the same time making it more efficient. In relation to mass measurement, researchers will design devices related to mass or commonly called digital scales that use load cells with a capacity of 50 kg. Other supporting components are the Arduino Uno and HX711 modules as input signal amplifiers, where the analog data obtained will be received by the ADC which will be converted into digital data. Digital data will be processed again by the Arduino programming language to display the results on the LCD in units of gram (gr). Based on testing, with the same variation in load placement, the best position of the load is obtained when measuring mass, which is in the middle of the base with a percentage level (%). And the measurement results by varying the nominal load at the same interval where the load is placed in the middle of the base, then the percentage level (%) is obtained with an error of 0.032% and the percentage success rate of tool measurement is 99.968%. Abstract

Disc brake pada sistem pembangkit listrik tenaga angin merupakan salah satu sub sistem pengaman dari sistem turbin angin untuk keperluan maintenance. Studi kasus turbin angin 100 kW yang terletak di Kabupaten Sukabumi dipilih untuk dilakukan kajian teknis untuk mengetahui fenomena disc brake selama operasi.Tiga variasi kecepatan yaitu 1350 , 2310, dan 3540 rpm telah dilakukan untuk mengetahui fungsi karakteristik kerja dari disc brake yang dipasang pada PLTB. Simulasi metode elemen hingga menggunakan software ANSYS dipilih untuk melakukan simulasi rotor dinamik dan fenomena termal pada disc brake. Berdasar diagram Campbell, diketahui bahwa putaran turbin tidak mengalami putaran kritis yang bisa menyebabkan simpangan besar. Gesekan antara pad dan disc brake selama proses operasi turbin memunculkan fenomena termal yang menunjukkan bahwa kenaikan temperatur dari disc brake masih menghasilkan tegangan yang aman dari batas tegangan yield material disc brake, yaitu menghasilkan 0,0018 MPa.  Disc brake on wind turbine system is one of many safety sub-systems at wind turbine for maintenance process. Case study of 100 kW wind turbine at Sukabumi regency was selected for technical study to find disc brake phenomenon during operations. Three variations of turbine speed, 1350, 2310, and 3540 rpm is used to get model characteristic from disc brake. Finite element analysis using ANSYS software is selected to get rotor dynamic and thermal phenomenon at disc brake. According to Campbell curve, the turbine speed during operation hasn't critical speed which allows large amplitude. Friction from the pad and disc brake during wind turbine operation shown the raised temperature at disc brake still acceptable, because disc stress still below yield stress, which is 0.0018 MPa.
