Abstract

Katuk (Sauropus androgynus L Merr) is known to contain carotenoids, vitamin E, vitamin C, protein and phytosterol compound. This study was aimed to determine the ability of phytosterols in Sauropus androgynus (SA) leaf to obtain poultry product that has low cholesterol content. One hundred fifty female quails were raised from 2-27 weeks old, divided into three treatment diets, five replicates with 10 quails in each replicate. The treatment diets were: 1) Control group: diet without katuk leaf meal; 2) Diet with 9% SA ethanol 70% extract (SAE); 3) Diet containing 9% SA meal (SAM). Kolesterols were determined with CHOD-PAP-Method by Human, there is enzymatic Colorimetric Test for Cholesterol with Lipid Clearing Factor. The result showed that total cholesterol in the egg yolk, carcass and liver of SAE and SAM treated quails were lower (P<0.05) than that of the control-treated quails, except the cholesterol content in the serum. These findings indicated that the cholesterol concentration of female quails was decreased due to phytosterol content in katuk leaf. Key Words: Phytosterol, Katuk Leaf, Kolesterol, Quails

Abstract

Zoonosis can be transmitted through a number of routes including food of animal products . Foodborne disease is a disease transmitted through food, while zoonosis is defined as a disease that can be transmitted from animal to man or vice versa . Then, if agent in foodborne disease is a zoonotic, it could be defined as foodborne zoonosis . The outbreaks of Bovine Spongioform Encephalopathy (BSE) followed by Avian influenza (AI) have caused increasing concern in the food safety of animal products, especially after men were confirmed die from Al infection . Consumers are wondering whether the disease could be transmitted through the animal products from the infected animals . The safety of animal originated food is affected by the practices along the food chain, from farm to consumer plate . Human health hazard could enter the food at any points of the food chain . At the food preparation, some of the foodborne zoonosis can be prevented by the program of five keys for safer food, i .e. keep food clean, separate raw from cooked food, cook food thoroughly, store food at safe temperatures and use water and raw materials that are safe .   Key words : Zoonosis, foodborne disease, food safety

Abstract

&nbsp;Dalam pengembangan metoda analisis residu antibiotik pada produk pangan hewani secara immunokimia telah dilakukan sintesis imunogen kloramfenikol (CAP) dengan protein Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) dan Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) dengan metoda konjugasi mixed anhidrad. Hasil sintesis digunakan untuk produksi antibodi.Antigen dan antibodi yang dihasilkan dijadikan prangkat analisis residu antibiotik dengan Competitive Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA kompetitif). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metoda konjugasi mixed anhidrad pada preparasi imunogen dengan jumlah CAP yang terkonjugasi ke grup amino bebas dari molekul protein BSA (CAP-BSA) adalah 18 unit dan ke protein KLH (CAP-KLH) adalah 782 unit. Antibodi poliklonal CAP-BSA dan CAP-KLH yang diproduksi dengan rata-rata kandungan IgG CAP-BSA 2,07 mg/ml dan IgG CAP-KLH 2,21 mg/ml.
