Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop an integrated thematic learning model based on Islamic values in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah practically and effectively. The type of this research is development research that refers to the model of 4D. The distribution of this model is implemented in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah of Padang city in 2016. The types of data are qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data are derived from observation and interview. Furthermore, quantitative data are obtained from questionnaire. The products of integrated thematic learning model based on Islamic values which have been developed are model guidebook, educator guidebook, and student guidebook. The achievement of the research results indicate that the three products have meet the criteria of validality, practicality and effectiveness. The book model can be used by educators/ teachers and students of elementry school level in helping the students become active and having a good character.

Abstract

Good teaching material can be defined as a material that is based on the results of needs analysis, so that it is not only about the significant effect on improving students' ability to write scientific articles but also the increasement of students? knowledge and understanding on writing research articles. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of students? needs related to teaching material about how to write research articles based on the criteria of reputable journals. The research design used was survey research. Data was collected using a questionnaire related to the students? needs toward teaching materials. The questionnaires were distributed to 120 students of English Language Teaching study programs who had learned article writing course. The results showed that the level of student needs regarding abstract and conclusion section are in the High category. Besides, the introduction, literature review, and methodological section are in the Very High category. From these findings, it can be concluded that the students' needs for teaching material related to English writing research articles based on the criteria of reputable journals is very high. Thus, teaching material writing research articles in English based on the criteria of reputable journals really needs to be developed.

Abstract

Teaching strategy is one of some important aspects in teaching reading process. Therefore, teacher needs some appropriate strategies to achieve the teaching reading’s goal. Tea Party is good to teach reading comprehension. This strategy helps students to comprehend the text through interactive way and discussing about limited information that they get from the text. The aim of this quasi experimental study was to investigate whether Tea Party strategy is effective than Small-Group Discussion strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The population of this study was students of the grade X of senior high school 12 Pekanbaru in 2016/2017 academic year which consist of four classes. Two classes were randomly selected as the sample of this study, namely X 2 as the experimental class and X 4 as the control class.  In collecting the data, the researcher uses reading comprehension test that consisted of 40 items. The data were analyzed by using t- test. The result shows that Tea Party strategy gives better result than Small- Group Discussionin teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to analyze the strategies used by the English teachers in giving corrective oral feedback on students’ speaking performanceand the reasons of the English teachers tend to use particular strategies in giving oral corrective feedback on students’ speaking performance at SMAN 1 Koto Salak and SMAN 2 Koto Baru. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through video recorder and interview. The sources of data were 6 English teachers at SMAN 1 Koto Salak and SMAN 2 Koto Baru Dharmasraya. The finding of this research indicated that oral corrective feedback strategies used by the teachers were explicit correction, recast, clarification request, metalinguistic clue, elicitation, repetition, body language and combined strategies. The strategies that mostly used by the English teachers were recast and explicit correction. The teacher tend to used particular strategies because they know the level of the students’ understanding, motivation, condition, and the ability in understanding and receiving what the teacher gave

Abstract

Based on preliminary observation and research finding in MAN in Tanah Datar, it was found that madrasah which have a good accreditation still have problems concerning with aspects of school management. The purposes of this research were to analyze teachers’ perception toward managerial competence of the madrasah principals in the aspects of the madrasah activities planning, organizing, leadership, actuating, and controlling. The methodology used in this research was mixed method by using the concurrent embedded model. Quantitative data was gotten from teachers of MAN in Tanah Datar while for the qualitative data was gotten from the school principals, vice school principals as well as teachers. Based on the research finding, it was found that in the madrasah activities planning was 82.11%; activities organizing was 79.50%; activities leading was 79.92%; activities actuating was 78.53%; and activities controlling was 81 %. In general, the competence of the madrasah principals of MAN in Tanah Datar was good in all aspect.

Abstract

This research and development result in a learning model that could be used to improve oral communication that was divided into five different learning phase, which is, orientation phase, ordering command phase, role exchange phase, structured practice phase, and guided practice phase. It could also improve one’s understanding of arabic grammar/qawaid (nahwu wa sharfi) which consists of elements in Arabic language that consist of Letters (harf), Words (kalimatu), Sentences (jumlatu), sibhuljumlah and articles (uslub) and fit into Arabic grammar. The result of this study implies that development result study model emphasize in college students’ activities in their learning process. The learning process done by the lecturers using Arabic language as the language of instruction started by the pronunciation of the vocabularies and it’s demonstration without translating it into Bahasa Indonesia. After they were capable of demonstrating the acquired vocabularies, college students trained in reproducing the language orally using question and answer activities, whether structurally, or guided. The study results showed that the quality of this multimedia teaching of Arabic language fall into the ‘fine’ category, acquiring average score of 43.92 and ideal percentage of 87.85%.

Abstract

This research mainly aims at conducting an extensive evaluation of the two English textbooks for senior high school grade tenth revised edition based on Kurikulum 2013 yang disempurnakan (curriculum 2013 revised edition). This study employed a descriptive qualitative study. The English textbooks for the tenth grade published by Erlangga and Ministry of Education and Culture were selected as the sources of data. The evaluation focuses on how far the textbooks provide learning to promote cognitive skill. Basic competencies in cognitive domain of curriculum 2013 were adapted as an instrument to evaluate the textbooks. Findings found that the textbooks’ authors of the two textbooks have tried to present opportunities for students to achieve core competencies in cognitive domain of curriculum 2013 in several units. Nevertheless, there are certain units that need additional instructions to provide more opportunities for students in acquiring low and high-order thinking skills. On the basis of the findings, the textbooks may revise or improve the textbooks’ content by adding more experiences for students to achieve the levels of taxonomy bloom expected in the core and basic competencies of curriculum 2013. The findings are also useful for teachers to add or modify the instructions that suit the purposes of curriculum 2013 specifically in cognitive domain.

Abstract

Abstract—Learning a foreign language by using social media at the University level is very important because social media has great potential to support student-centered learning as they are flexible, interactive, and resource–rich in nature. One of its drawbacks is the quality of online instruction that lead to unfavorable perception and perspective of the students. The objectives of this research are to analyze the students’ perceptions and perspectives in using Social Media as a tool in English Language learning. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from the students of the English Study Program, Faculty of Education, the Islamic University of Riau. Research finding revealed that social media is very practical and useful for getting general information, knowledge and to increase their language competency.
