Abstract

The effect of depth and weight differences on early stage of seaweed growth Kappaphycus alvarezi was studied. This Research was conducted for over 42 days, from April to May 2013 in Talengen Waters, Regency Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi. Experiment designed used was 4 x 3 factorial experiment in a completely randomized design, so there were two factors namely depth and weight. The depth factor (D) consisted of four levels and initial weight (W) consisted of three levels, thus there were 12 treatment combination: D1W1 (25 cm, 75 g), D1W2 (25 cm, 100 g), D1W3 (25 cm, 125 g), D2W1 (75 cm, 75 g), D2W2 (75 cm, 100 g), D2W3 (75 cm, 125 g), D3W1 (125 cm, 75 g), D3W2 (125 cm, 100 g), D3W3 ( 125 cm, 125 g), D4W1 (175 cm, 75 g), D4W2 (175 cm, 100 g), and D4W3 (175 cm, 125 g). Data collected were analyzed statistically using the statistical program JMP (SAS Institute). Statistical analysis showed there was a significant differences in relative growth of seaweed K. alvarezii (P> F.0003 <.01).The best relative growth of seaweed K. alvarezzi was achieved in treatment combination D1W1 (25 cm, 75 gr) as much as 302.89%. Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the suitability of several environment factors and water quality parameters for development of seaweed culture in Kampung Sakabu.  The research was conducted through observation at three stations while protection factor and bottom substrate of waters were observed visually. Water quality parameters including pH, salinity, current rate, temperature were measured in situ and the compared to Standard Water Quality Citeria by Bakosurtanal 1996.  Research results were divided into three suitability categories namely 1) very suitable, 2) suitable, and 3) less suitable.  In general, environmental condition and water quatily in Kampung Sakabu were categorized as suitable to very suitable. This results indicated that         waters of Kampung Sakabu was very potential for development of seaweed culture. Keywords:  Kampung Sakabu, seaweeds, area suitability, water quality

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the growth of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii cultured using different type of rope ris with different conditions. The study was conducted over 64 days, starting on September 1 to November 3, 2014 Village Jaya Karsa, North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. The experiment was designed according to 2x3 factorial experiment in a completely randomized design (CRD). Two factors were tested, namely rope ris type and conditions. Factors ris types strap consisted of two type: Monofilament nylon and Multifilament PE. Factor conditions of ris rope consisted of three levels, namely: new, used cleaned, and the former was not cleaned, so there were 6 treatments. Experiment container was floating longlines. One unit consisted of 3 longline trial. Length per longline 28.80 m, 18 pieces of string length of rope ris 1.6 m each strap was 7 point planting, planting the overall number of points 378 points planting. K. alvarezii seaweed seedlings obtained from Jaya Karsa farmers. Weighing was done 4 times, weighing early, 1 week, 2 weeks, and at the end of week 3, using a digital scale with a precision of 1 g. Accretion weight was calculated to be the absolute growth rate (g) and daily growth rate (%). The results showed that the absolute growth and the daily growth of seaweed K. alvarezii not significantly influenced by different type and condition of the rope ris. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parameters of physics, chemistry and metal content of mercury and determine the condition of water quality around the Bay of Manado. The tools used in this study consisted of a sample bottle, thermometer, pH meter, pen and camera. Research materials include water samples, aqua, ice cubes, tissue. The Sampling technique using sampling methods “purposive random” with 4 point sampling locations. Namely the location of the sampling site 1 (Manado Harbor), location 2 (region MTC), location 3 (region Prof. Dr. Kandouw Hospital) and location 4 (Malalayang coastal areas). Samples were analyzed in the Laboratory of Industrial Research Standardization Manado (BARISTAND). The results of the analysis of mercury in waters around Manado Bay using Atomic Absorption Spectrofotometer (AAS) obtained results undetectable (nil). The value of the analysis the temperature at the point I – IV range from 28 0C– 300C and pH values ranging from 7 – 9. The condition of water at four point research is still below threshold quality Standards Minister of Environment No. 51 2004 (0,001 mg/l). Abstract

The purppuse of research was to study the feasibility of fish culture technically and economically.  Primary data was gathered by interview to fish farmer and secondary data was obtained from related references.  Data analyzed were break even point and foof conversion ratio.  Water source of pond was spring water and the pond depth was 0.50 – 1.75 m.  Juveniles were obtained fron Tatelu Freshwater Aquaculture Board  and other palces.  Fish was fedr pellet for 3-4 months. Pond conctruction did not match the criteria . Fish farmer did not used capital from bank and farmers did not use book account in running the business. Food conversion ratio was 2.5 – 3.5. The price of pellet was Rp. 8.500/kg ang fish price was Rp. 25.000/kg.  Fish farmer dit not receive enough profit in running fish culture   Keywords:  feasibility study, pond construction, fish culture, Matungkas Village
