Abstract

This research aimed to determine the best ratio and reaction time of synthesis of the carboxymethyl cellulose from sweet corn cobs to obtained the best subtitution degree. Treatment of ratio variation amount of sodium monocloroacetic consists of 6 levels i.e 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 grams, while treatment of synthesis reaction time consiste of 6 levels i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 hours. Optimum conditions of synthesis reaction of carboxymethyl cellulose from sweet corn cobs obtained at the addition of 7 grams sodium monocloroacetic and use 4 hours of reaction time. Carboxymethyl cellulose has subtitution degree 1,197 to yield 73,45% and water content 7,47%.

Abstract

The background of this research is that the students’ mathematical concept apprehensions are low, that can be seen from the points of 2nd-final-semester examination of VIII-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang of the year 2012/2013. The purposes of this research is to know whether the students’ mathematical concept apprehensions by applying the trading-places-type active learning strategy is better than that using the conventional learning for the IX-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang. This is experimental research with Random to Subject design. The population in this research is the IX-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang of the year 2013/2014, consisting of six classes from IX2 to IX7 classes, except for IX1 class that is excellent students. The technique of sampling is total sampling. The sample classes were determined randomly so that the IX4 was selected as an experimental class and the IX6 as a control. The instrument used in this research is test for the mathematical concept apprehension in the form of essay with the test reliability of r11 = 0.89. The technique of data analysis applied is t test of one party with assistance of software MINITAB. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that both sample classes distribute normally and homogenously on the level of α = 0.05 and the hypothesis tes is P value = 0.021, meaning smaller than α = 0.05. So that the hypothesis is accepted, that means that the students’ mathematical concept apprehension using the trading-places-type active learning strategy is better than that using the conventional learning for the IX-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang with the trust level of 95%..

Abstract

Based on background knowledge of this research was understanding of concept mathematics at VIII grade of SMP N16 Padang. It is caused by the materials that students have been lost from their mind. This research is to determine whether students’ understanding of concept mathematics by using Sepak Bola Verbal strategy better than students’ understanding of concept mathematics by using conventional strategy andto know how the students motivation ini learning by using sepak bola verbal strategy at VIII SMP N 16 Padang.Type of this research was experiment. Population of this research was students at VIII SMP N 16 Padang, and sample of this research was students class VIII.8as experimental class and VIII.6 as control class. Post-Test was as instrumentation in this research, with reliability 0.84.From the data analysis get mean score from students’ achievement in experimental class was 68.89 that high rather than in control class that was 57.04.Data analysis was done by using minitab program.P-value= 0.026so hypothesis use acceptable. So, we can conclude that students’ understanding of concept mathematics that used Sepak Bola Verbal strategy better than conventional strategy at VIII Grade of SMP N 16 Padang.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of interest of the students to read the lessons that will be studied and the students comprehention of mathematical concepts are still low , causing the outcomes of mathematics are also low. This research aims to: 1 ) Knowing how to implement student learning activities with elaboration strategies methods includes Preview, Question,  Read, Reflect, Recite and Review ( PQ4R ) on mathematics class VIII SMP 2 Payakumbuh. 2) Determining whether the student with an comprehention of mathematical concepts with implementation strategies elaboration of the method include Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite and Review ( PQ4R ) more understand than conventional learning students in class VIII SMP 2 Payakumbuh. The type of this research is experimental research, the entire study population class VIII SMP 2 Payakumbuh. The sampling is randomly, selected VIII-D class as the experimental class and the control class is VIII-E class. Hypothesis test that used was T test. Form of the test used essay test with a reliability test is  = 0.72 , the meaning that test has high reliability. Based on the analysis of both,  have average that student’s understanding of mathematical concepts on the experimental class = 69.68, and average student’s understanding of mathematical concepts on control = 59.06. The hypothesis , derived P – value = 0.018 < ( 0.05 ) so the hypothesis is accepted. It concluded that students understanding of mathematical concepts by applying methods PQ4R better than students comprehention of mathematical concepts with conventional learning with 95% confidence level .

Abstract

Background of the research is the comprehension of mathematical concepts and low student activities. This research therefore aims to determine how students’ learning activities with the implementation of active learning strategies The  Power Of Two types and to determine whether students’ comprehension of mathematical concepts by applying active learning strategy types The Power Of Two is better than the students’ comprehension of mathematical concepts with the application of learning conventional class XII science student of SMAN 1 Lengayang school year 2013/2014. This type of research is experimental research. Population in this research is class XII science student of SMAN 1 Lengayang consisting of four classes. The  sampling technique is done randomly, which was selected as the sample classes are class XII science 1 as the experiments class and class XII science 2 as the control class. The instrument used in this study was the observation sheet and final test with indicator of comprehension of concept. Form of test used is  a form of essay with a reliability test = 0,8322. Hypothesis testing use a t-test with the help of the software MINITAB. Based on the analysis of the data found P-value=0,033 is less than = 0,05, then this hypothesis is accepted. Thus concluded that the students’ comprehension of mathematical concepts with application of active learning strategies types The Power Of Two is better than the students’ comprehension of mathematical concepts with coventional learning in class XII science SMAN 1 Lengayang kabupaten Pesisir Sealatan.

Abstract

                                      ABSTRACT This research was conducted as the students were unable to explain the way a problem solved and they got low understanding on mathematics concept. This research was aimed at revealing whether the conceptual understanding of the students taught by using Thinking Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) assisted with quis was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning in class VIII of SMPN 10 Padang. This was an experimental research which applied random sampling technique. The instrument of the research were a quiz and a post-test which contained conceptual understanding indicators. The result of quis analysis indicated that the students’conseptual understanding improved from meeting I to meeting III and decreased in meeting IV. The result of hypothesis test by using t-test showed that  in which  indicating that was accepted. Based on this result, it was concluded that the the conceptual understanding of the students taught by using Thinking Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) assisted with quis was better than that of students taught by using conventional leraning in class VIII of SMPN 10 Padang.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was motivated by an understanding of mathematical concepts class VII students of SMP Negeri 11 Padang is still low , and the learning of mathematics is difficult and tedious . This study aims to determine whether students understanding of mathematical concepts using learning techniques wheel of chance better than student’s understanding of mathematical concepts by applying  conventional learning in the classroom SMP Negeri 11 Padang. This research is an experimental study with randomized research design of the subject. The instrument used was the final test. From of the best used is the essay with reliability = 0,8988. The result obtained from testing the hypothesis t = 2,32 and t table = 1,699, t count > t table then hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the students understanding of mathematical concepts  by applying using techniques that wheel of fortune better than the mathematical ability of students understanding of concepts with conventional learning in the classroom SMP Negeri 11 Padang.

This is experimental research with Random to Subject design. The population in this research is the VIII-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang of the year 2013/2014, except for VIII1 class. The technique of sample classes were determined randomly. The instrument used in this research is the observation sheet activities and test for the mathematical concept apprehension.Based on the observation, an increase in  the activity of student learning. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that both sample classes distribute normally and homogenously. So that the hypothesis is accepted, that means that the students’ mathematical concept apprehension using the talking stick learning methods is better than that using the conventional learning for the VIII-grade students of SMPN 16 Padang.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research was motivated by the lack of mathematical concepts understanding in class VIII SMP 18 Sijunjung. Students were less active in following the learning process of mathematics. This study aims to determine how the activity of learning and students understanding of mathematical concepts using Learning Cycle accompanied Handout. This research was an experimental study. Design of research is random subject. The instrument used in this study was the observation sheet activity and the final test of learning outcomes in the form of essays.  Based on the analysis of data observation sheet, this was known that the activity of learning activities of students had increased. The average learning outcomes of experimental class at the end of the test was = 86,81 and the average grade control = 75,38. Through t-test, the results of testing the hypothesis were t-test = 3,8 and t-table = 1,6785. Here t-test > t-table. In conclusion, the students understanding of mathematical concepts using Learning Cycle with Handout is better than the understanding of students mathematical concepts using the conventional teaching.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was intended to reveal what the students’ learning motivation by applying Everyone is A Teacher Here (ETH) active learning strategy accompanied with Icebreaker was and whether the mathematics conceptual understanding of the students taught by using ETH active learning strategy accompanied with Icebreaker was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning. This was an experimental research. The population of the research was the students in class VII of SMPN 2 Pariaman. The instruments of the research were questionnaire and posttest. The data gotten then was analyzed by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis it was found that the two sample classes were normally distributed and homogenous. Furthermore, the result of t-test showed that the value of tcalculated was higher than ttable. Thus it was concluded that the use of Everyone is A Teacher Here (ETH) active learning strategy could motivate the students to learn.
