Abstract

The increasing contribution of air conditioning (AC) to energy consumption has received considerable attention in the past and will continue to do so in the coming years, from Indonesian government, state electricity company and consumers. Managing demand on the electricity system in peak sessions is the most direct way to address the AC peak demand issue. The aim of this research is to developed a consumer demand side response (DSR) model to assist both electricity consumers/aggregator and electricity provider to minimise energy cost if peak price occured in the peak season. The proposed model allows consumers to independently and proactively manage air conditioning load through an aggregator. This research examines how the control system applies DSR model if a price spike may occur at 18.00 during one hour. The results indicate, consumer and aggregator could gain collective benefits when the consumer controls the air conditioning under the DSR program. The model was tested in Makassar City South Sulawesi considering to the caharacteristic of the room and air conditioning in a residential house.

Abstract

Steam reforming of ethanol to H2 using ZnO catalyst with promotor metal, i.e. copper or metal group VIII (Pd, Pt and Ni) has been investigated. Catalyst’s performances are tested further at micro reactor operating at atmosphere pressure. Ethanol solution 20% is injected to reactor at rate of 2 ml/jam and is mixed with nitrogen flow at 25 ml/menit. XRD analysis shows active phases existence of each promotor for produced catalyst. Reaction product includes H2, CO2, and a nonidentified component. Selectivity of H2 fromation depends on chosen promotor metal types, where the selectifity decreases as follows: Pt > Pd > Cu ≈ Ni. Reaction temperature and promotor concentration also influence selectifity H2. For catalyst 1% Pd/ZnO and 1% Pt/ZnO, selectivity H2 was optimum at temperature reaction 450oC. Whereas Pd promotor concentration’s increasing from 1% to 5% improves H2 selectivity.Keywords: ethanol, hidrogen, steam reforming, ZnO

Abstract

Water quality assessment in the tsunami-affected areas conducted in Meuraxa and Kutaradja sub-districts in the area of Banda Aceh City. Water samples were collected in October 2006 from dug wells of tsunami-affected areas. These were characterized for various physical and chemical parameters. Water quality in the selected areas has shown that the surface water was contaminated due to the tsunami. Total Dissolved Solid, Total Suspended Solid, Acidity, and salinity were high in the affected areas indicating saline water intrusion into surface water tables. Dug wells in the highly affected locations showed higher values of heavy metal ions like Mn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn, and Cu compared to the reference points. No ion Hg was found in all samples. Abstract

Perubahan produksi dan pangsa pasar gas alam domestik maupun global mempengaruhi suplai terhadap pabrik pupuk-amoniak baik dari sisi jumlah, komposisi maupun harga. Kondisi ini memungkinkan pabrik amoniak menerima jenis gas alam berat kaya dengan CO2 (raw gas) maupun gas alam  ringan minim CO2 (treated gas). Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan analisa pengaruh perubahan  komposisi gas alam terutama kandungan CO2 dengan variasi 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 dan 50% vol terhadap operasional reforming dan shift converter sistem pabrik amoniak-2 PT. PI Mexisting dengan metodelogi simulasi mengggunakan Aspen HYSYS V8.0. Untuk memproduksi amoniak dengan jumlah yang sama, hasil studi menunjukkan penambahan CO2 dalam gas umpan akan meningkatkan pressure drop sistem, laju pembentukan komponen hidrogen turun sementara konsumsi energi bertambah di reforming, beban katalis shift converter dan beban feed gas compressor meningkat. Kandungan CO2 sebesar 7% vol masih mungkin diaplikasikan, mengingat ada batasan beban peralatan.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke is the main risk factor of chronic  obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Several studies about COPD has focused on the oxidative stress in lung. Oxidative stress was related to inactivation of antiprotease enzymes, airway epithelial destruction and proinflammatory genes expression. Antioxidant may useful for treatment of COPD. Black seed (Nigela sativa) studies have showed that black seedhas antioxidant activity. The aim of this research  was to prove that black seed crude extract can protect wistar rat lung from oxidative stress which was caused by chroniccigarette smoke exposure. This experimental research used randomizedcomplete design with control group. Thirty wistar strain of Rattus novergicus, 2.5 to 3 months old, 150 – 250 grams ofweight were divided into five groups. First group  was used as negative control group (without any treatment), second group as positive control group (only cigarettesmoke exposure treatment), third group as cigarette smoke exposureand black seed crude extract dose 0.6 gr/kilogram  of body weight/day (group A), cigarette smoke exposure and  black seed crude extract dose 1.2 gr/kilogram of body weight/day (group B) and cigarette smoke exposure and black seed crude extract dose 2.4 gr/kilogram of body weight/day (group C). After 3 months five parameters were measured in this research.

Abstract

In this paper we derived a modification of the model of waves evolution in two-directional spatial coordinates. Using KP equation as the basic model, we improved dispersive property in spatial x coordinate and named it as improved KP (iKP) equation. iKP has an exact dispersion relation in spatial x coordinate. Using this model, we derived second order regular waves and  analyzed the expression of Maximum Temporal Amplitude.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate effect of soil plasticity index (PI) to shear strength parameters, e.i. the angle of shearing (φ) and cohesion value (c). Parameters of φ and c obtained from Direct Shear Test in soil mechanics laboratory. The soil samples used for the research were taken from Neuheun Village, Mesjid Raya Subdistrict, and Aceh Besar District. Based on AASHTO soil classification, the soil sample is a Group A-7-6, whereas based on USCS soil classification, the soil is sandy clay of CL symbol. Soil specimen for Undisturbed Sample (UDS) and Disturbed Sample (DS) were 20 samples respectively, each sample was made to be three sub samples. The result of research shows that there is a linier correlation of shearing angle to PI, i.e., φ = -0,700 IP + 47,474, R2 = 0.882 for Undisturbed Samples (UDS) and φ = -1,757 IP + 59,313, R2 = 0.891 for Disturbed Samples (DS). The result of research also shows there is a linier correlation of cohesion value to PI, i.e., c = -0,053 IP + 1,569, R2 = 0.887 for UDS and c = -0,076 IP + 1,882, R2 = 0.783 for DS. It can be concluded that shear strength parameters for all tested samples in this research influenced by soil plasticity index. The higher soil plasticity index resulted the lower Shear Strength Parameters.

Abstract

Tanah yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berasal dari Desa Neuheun Kecamatan Mesjid Raya Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Lokasi tersebut merupakan lereng gunung yang rawan terjadinya longsor. Kawasan ini telah digunakan sebagai sarana transportasi untuk menuju quarry yang terletak di ujung kawasan beberapa kompleks perumahan penduduk yang belum diketahui kekuatan daya dukung tanah dasarnya. Menurut klasifikasi AASHTO tanah Desa Neuheun tergolong jenis tanah lempung dengan simbol kelompok A-7-6, sedangkan menurut klasifikasi USCS tanah tersebut termasuk golongan tanah lempung berpasir dan diberi simbol CL. Pengujian kuat geser dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat uji Triaksial. Jumlah benda uji pada masing-masing tanah tidak terganggu (Undisturbed Sample, UDS) dan tanah terganggu (Disturbed Sample, DS) 20 sampel, tiap sampel dibuat menjadi tiga sub sampel. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa hubungan nilai sudut geser dengan PI sampel tanah menunjukkan adanya hubungan linier dengan persamaan φ = -1,3783 PI + 34,345; R2 = 0,6939 untuk tanah UDS dan φ = -1,7089 PI + 51,963; R2 = 0,7488 untuk DS. Hubungan nilai kohesi dengan indeks plastisitas sampel tanah juga menunjukkan hubungan linier dengan persamaan c = -0,0952 PI + 2,5246; R2 = 0,7489 pada sampel tanah tidak terganggu dan c = -0,142 PI + 4,3785; R2 = 0,8741 pada sampel tanah terganggu. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa berdasarkan persamaan yang didapat dari hasil hubungan linier, nilai parameter kuat geser pada setiap lokasi pengambilan sampel tanah dipengaruhi oleh nilai indeks plastisitas tanah. Semakin tinggi nilai indeks plastisitas tanah maka nilai parameter kuat geser φ dan c semakin rendah.Kata kunci : parameter kuat geser, indeks plastisitas, tanah tidak terganggu dan terganggu.

Abstract

Gravity method was carried out at Seulawah Agam Area to delineate the existence of geothermal source, which is specifically existed in both the geothermal filed of Heutsz’s Crater and Cempaga’s Crater. The Seulawah Agam is located in Aceh Besar district. Geologically, the area is dominated by volcanic mudflow and Lam Teuba’s rocks having age from Tersier to Resen Period. The equipment used includes Gravimeter CG-5 Autograv, Portable GPS (Global Positioning System), Navigation type (map of the survey area), computer and the other technical supports, such as handy talky, umbrella, watch, pens and observed data notes. This research was conducted by doing two stages. Firstly, establishing the base station which is a reference point for all gravity data measurements at each point. Secondly, measuring gravity data at each point by repeating three times following looping pattern as pathway of measurement either in Heutsz’s crater whose nine points recording or in Cempaga’s crater whose seventeen points. The data was simply processed using Microsoft Excel that can just plot the Bouguer anomaly and interpreted qualitatively due to preliminary research. The resultof this research has shown that both areas have two kinds of Bougeur anomalies which slightly attract attention who’s high and low anomaly. At Heutsz’s Crater has high and low density existed at F125 FR and B6 point. The Point whose high density means that it was formed mineralization by hydrothermal process through fracture materials, meanwhile the point whose low density indicates that there is existed the fault which is quite related to Seulimum’s Fault based on Aceh map. This result is also same as obtained at Cempaga’s Crater which means also same interpretation. In addition, it can be sum up that fault zones are essentially important in geothermal system that plays vital role in term of fluid circulation. Employing the gravity method in this research effectively can be said helpful proved by the Seulawah Agam has a good prospect become an alternative source of energy in the future.

Abstract

Magnetic met hod had been empl oyed at Seul awah Agam area interm of unveiling the potentially geothermal source. This method was carried out locally in both the geothermal filed of Heutsz’s Craterand Cempaga’s Crater where the locations are in Seulawah Agam slope which is included in Aceh Besar District. Geologically, the area is mainly controlled by volcanic mudflow and Lam Teuba’s rocks consisting of breccia, pumice and tuff and their age are from Tersier to Resen Period. The deployed equipment consisted of Magnetometer GSM-19T, Proton Sensors, Aluminum Stick, Connection Cable, GPS Antenna, Compass, and Watch. Portable GPS (Global Positioning System), Navigation type (map of the survey area), and complemented by the other technical equipment, such as handy talky, umbrella, pens and notes of observed data. This study was done by following two steps. At first, the base station was established as a reference point for all magnetic data of measurements. Furthermore, recording magnetic data at each point by repeating three times until the last point by following the looping pattern as pathway of measurement both in Heutsz’s crater whose nine point recordings and in Cempaga’s crater whose seventeen points was consecutively done. The data were simply processed by using Microsoft excel that can just plot the magnetic anomaly and interpreted qualitatively being preliminary research. The result showed that at the north pathway had high magnetic anomaly of rocks located at B6 point and it was assumed as the area having the economically mineral in fracture zones. The rocks with low a anomaly value were obtained at –F125 BR is suggested as the thermal sources while at the South pathway from observing station till the Cempaga’s crater was obtained the geological structure as the Sumatran Fault of Aceh’s segment at CK4 point and this finding showed similar correlation with the result of gravity survey at same pathway published in another paper. In conclusion, this method effectively showed that the Seulawah Agam has potency as thermal source.
