Abstract

The hepatoprotector activity of pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack.) roots was evaluated in carbontetrachloride (CCl4)-induced rats. Each rat was administered 500 mg/kg body weight of metanol extractand its derivates (n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol-water) for 7 consecutive days. Thepositive control group received 25 mg silymarin/kg body weight daily for 7 consecutive days. Hepatoprotectoractivity was assessed by measuring serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase(AST). Futhermore, hepatic tissues were subjected to histopathological studies. The results and AST(272.33±85.63 U/L) compared to methanol extract (380.61±324.88 U/L and 475.27±412.31 U/L), n-hexanefraction (279.80±304.92 U/L and 488.53±426.81 U/L), chloroform fraction (418.30±294.80 U/L and427.70±273.08 U/L), and ethyl acetate fraction (312.80±443.30 U/L and 418.40±370.52 U/L), but thisresult was not as good as silymarin (ALT 105.09±21.62 U/L and AST 310.25±2.45 U/L). Moreover, thehistopathological studies of methanol-water fraction was also not as good as silymarin . It was concludedthat methanol-water fraction of pasak bumi roots has a hepatoprotector potensial.

Abstract

The quail’s egg have value of nutrient which similar to the chicken’s egg and the duck’s egg. Various of the programme of the light to improve repair of the quantity and the quality of the quail egg. The objectives of this research were to applied monochromatic light to repair the quality and quantity of the quail egg. Two hundred and seventy female quails (DOQ) were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication, the treatments were without light, controls with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of 15 and 25 lux. Control treatment used incandescent bulb. The red, green, and blue lights were provided by light emitting diodes (LED). All lights treatment were given for 14 h daily, started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters measured were amount of the egg weekly, henday egg production, and quality of the egg consist of the weights of the egg, protein and fat of the egg. The result showed that quails exposed to blue light had higher of the amount of the egg, henday production, and the weights of the egg, while the quality of the egg, such as protein and fat in the egg were not change (P>0,05). Blue light could be used to improve repairing quantities of the quail egg.

Abstract

Deposited calsium makes of the eggshell is influnce of the light. The objective of the study was evaluate exposed of monochromatic light to obtain basic information of the physiology aspect of calcium satus in the quail which direct relation with quality of the eggshell. Two hundred and seventy quails were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication. The treatments were without light, controls with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of 15 and 25 lux. Control treatment used incandescent bulb. The red, green, and blue lights were provided by light emitting diodes (LED). All lights treatment were given for 14 h daily, started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters measured were serum calcium concentrations, calcium contents in bone and the eggshell, weights and thichness of the eggshell. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the differences between treatments groups were subjected for Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). All of the data analyzed were done GLM (general linear model) procedure in the SAS program. Quails exposed to monochromatic light had higher serum calcium concentrations and calcium contents in bone (P<0,05). Blue light could be used to increase quality of the eggshell.

Abstract

Light plays an important role in the avian life. The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of monochromatic light on serum estrogen concentrations and profile the oviduct, that were the length and weight of the oviduct in the quail. Two hundred and seventy quails were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication. The treatments were without light,  controls  with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of  15 and 25 lux. Control  treatment used incandescent bulb.  The red,  green,  and  blue lights  were  provided  by   light emitting   diodes  (LED). All lights   treatment   were   given   for   14 h  daily,   started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters   measured  were  serum estrogen  concentrations, and  weights  and  lengths  of   the  oviduct  on  weeks 5,  7,  and  9.  Quails   exposed  to  monochromatic   light had  higher  serum  estrogen  concentrations (P<0,05). Quails  exposed to monochromatic light had  better  weights  and  lenghts of  the  oviduct  development. Blue light could be used to increase serum estrogen concentrations and stimulate shell gland development.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mempelajari performan domba  yang diberi  ransum  mengandung Zn-fitat dan Pb-asetat pada domba. Dua puluh ekor domba yang sedang tumbuh dengan bobot 14-21 kg dipelihara selama 42  hari dan dialokasikan ke dalam 5 perlakuan ransum percobaan. Seng-fitat dan Pb-asetat dibubuhkan ke dalam ransum percobaan sebagai berikut : 1) ransum basal, 2) ransum  basal + ZnCl2, 3) ransum basal + Pb-asetat, 4) ransum basal + Zn-fitat, 5) ransum basal + Zn-fitat + Pb-asetat.  Hasil menunjukan bahwa suplementasi Zn-fitat nyata tidak berpengaruh terhadap pertambahan bobot badan harian dan  konversi ransum (P>0,05), namun kehadiran Pb-asetat menurunkan konsumsi bahan kering (P<0,05).  Kesimpulan suplementasi Zn-fitat tidak efektif dalam meningkatkan performans domba dan Pb-asetat menurunkan konsumsi ransum. Abstract

Forty sis ewes were used to study the effects of number of ovulating follicle on the conception rate during the first estrous cycle after PGF& injection. The experimental ewes were injected twice with PGF& to synchronize estrous cycle and to remove previously existed corpus luteum. The number of ovulating follicle was determined by counting the number of corpus luteum by laparoscopy, 5 days after the estrous cycle. The distribution of ewes having 1. 2. 3, and >3 ovulating follicle was 12, 19, 12, 3, respectively. Conception rate in each group during the first estrous cycle after the last PGF& injection was determined by counting the parturition date. The results of the experiment showed that the hgher the number ofovulating follicle the greater the percentage of ewes being pregnant (33,33, 63,12, 58,33, and 10%, for ewes having 1, 2, 3, and >3, ovulating follicle, respectively). It was suggested that an increasing number of ovulating follicle could be used to improve conception rate in ewes.

Abstract

The study was designed to isolate and identify serum IgG of native and imported chickens, after being immunized with Newcastle Disease Vaccine. The isolation method used was the DEAE-Cellulose ion exchange chromatography using 0.01 M Tris-HCl buffer, at pH 8.0, with linear gradient NaCl from 0.01 M to 0.30 M after salting out with anhydrous Na2SO4. Identification of IgG characteristics carried out using the Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion, immuno-electrophoresis and SDS-PAGE 8% methods. Serum fractionation of native and imported chickens using the DEAE-Cellulose chromatography, after salting out with anhydrous Na2So4 of 18,14 and 14% resulted in four peaks of protein fractions.

Abstract

Katuk (Sauropus androgynus L Merr) is known to contain carotenoids, vitamin E, vitamin C, protein and phytosterol compound. This study was aimed to determine the ability of phytosterols in Sauropus androgynus (SA) leaf to obtain poultry product that has low cholesterol content. One hundred fifty female quails were raised from 2-27 weeks old, divided into three treatment diets, five replicates with 10 quails in each replicate. The treatment diets were: 1) Control group: diet without katuk leaf meal; 2) Diet with 9% SA ethanol 70% extract (SAE); 3) Diet containing 9% SA meal (SAM). Kolesterols were determined with CHOD-PAP-Method by Human, there is enzymatic Colorimetric Test for Cholesterol with Lipid Clearing Factor. The result showed that total cholesterol in the egg yolk, carcass and liver of SAE and SAM treated quails were lower (P&lt;0.05) than that of the control-treated quails, except the cholesterol content in the serum. These findings indicated that the cholesterol concentration of female quails was decreased due to phytosterol content in katuk leaf. Key Words: Phytosterol, Katuk Leaf, Kolesterol, Quails
