Abstract

Appearance of extractives matter as oil-form on wood surface has been causing problems in wood working, especially for laminated wood products and finishing. The problem of extractives on the oily keruing was observed to get the way how to overcome it so the wood utilization able to be increased by laminated wood manufacturing. The effect of the treatments on the oily keruing as laminated wood material has been done by boiling in the water, boiling in diesel fuel and cooking oil mixture, and press-vacuum with paraffin addition. Comparison was done for inter-treatment and also to non oily keruing. The materials used were oily (Dipterocarpus gracilis), non oily (Dipterocarpus grandifloris) keruing and tannin-base glue. The observed parameters consist of visual appearance, moisture content, density, bonding strength and delaminating. Results indicated that moisture content of all treatment were not more than 15%, density range of 0.71-0.91 g/cm3 and average 0.79 g/cm3. The bonding strength of laminated wood ranges varied from 17.80 kg/cm2 to 37.73 kg/cm2 nd average 26.44 kg/cm2 (dry testing) and 1.81 kg/cm2-13.97 kg/cm2 and average 9.15 kg/cm2 (wet testing), while the delaminating ranges of 41.19% to 52.85% and average 45.52%. Generally, the treatment of boiling in mixture of diesel fuel and cooking oil with 6 : 1 in proportion, resulted increasing properties for laminated wood made of oily keruing.   Keywords : Extractives, oily keruing, tannin, laminated wood

Abstract

Industri pengolahan kayu dan mebel (IPKM) Jawa Tengah saat ini menghadapi permasalahan kekurangan bahan baku kayu. Hal ini memunculkan ide untuk membangun terminal kayu terpadu (TKT). Oleh karena investasi pembangunan TKT membutuhkan biaya yang sangat besar, sementara permasalahan inti industri kayu Jawa Tengah belum diketahui, maka diperlukan kajian untuk mengetahui dibutuhkan atau tidaknya terminal kayu terpadu sebagai fasilitas penunjang industri kayu di Jawa Tengah. Tulisan ini mengemukakan hasil kajian terhadap kebijakan pembangunan terminal kayu terpadu tersebut. Kajian difokuskan pada permasalahan yang dihadapi IPKM, solusi yang dikemukakan dan tingkat pasokan dan kebutuhan bahan baku kayu. Kajian dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif dan eksploratif yang menganalisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif, baik sekunder maupun primer yang diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap responden dengan kriteria tertentu yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat permasalahan utama IPKM Jawa Tengah, berturut-turut menurut prioritasnya adalah: (i)Kesenjangan antara pasokan dengan kebutuhan bahan baku kayu; (ii) Iklim usaha kurang kondusif; (iii) Kebijakan/peraturan dari pemerintah dirasa memberatkan dan tidak konsisten, dan (iv) Kompetensi sumber daya manusia, teknologi serta kelembagaan dan sarana/prasarana yang kurang. Sementara itu, pembangunan TKT bukan satu-satunya solusi yang harus dilakukan, melainkan harus simultan dengan alternatif solusi lainnya. Berdasarkan analisis diketahui bahwa apabila TKT dibangun saat ini maka akan kesulitan untuk mendapatkan pasokan kayu, baik dari luar Jawa mupun impor. Hal ini diebabkan oleh defisit bahan baku juga terjadi di wilayah utama (luar Pulau Jawa) penghasil kayu mencapai sekitar 50 juta m3 /tahun dan secara global mencapai lebih dari 740 juta m3 /tahun.

Abstract

In the situation of wood material shortage, it is important to furniture manufacturers to efficiently utilize the wood. Increasing efficiency for improving value added of small medium enterprises of wood furniture industries in Jepara should be carried out from the first stage in wood processing: sawing that will convert logs into sawn timber. A study has been carried out on improving sawing recovery of sawntimber by live-sawing pattern to make loseware lumber for furniture material in Jepara region. This study was done by investigating the current sawing recovery data as determined during one full days processing at each of the four bandsaw mill facilities and one chainsaw/carving facility. The results indicate that the current recovery rate of sawmilling services companies in Jepara reached 70 - 80 %. These recoveries are relatively high due to the live sawing pattern used and the fact that sawn boards were not edged or resawn into square pieces at the mill. Compared to existing rules and the Government standard for calculating the recovery rate, sawmilling service companies in Jepara have practiced efficient processing in sawing.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan kayu keruing berminyak untuk produk laminasi masih belum optimal karena masalah zat ekstraktif yang muncul ke permukaan dan mengganggu proses perekatan. Oleh karena itu penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh pelarutan zat ekstraktif terhadap beberapa sifat kayu lamina perlu dilakukan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membuat kayu lamina dari kayu keruing berminyak jenis Dipterocarpus hasseltii setelah zat ekstraktifnya dilarutkan dengan cara memanaskan (merebus) kayu tersebut dalam larutan etanol 35% (v/v). Pengujian kayu lamina menggunakan standar JAS-2003. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan perebusan dalam larutan etanol 35% dapat meningkatkan sifat keterbasahan secara nyata sebesar 54%, meningkatkan nilai keteguhan rekat kayu lamina dari 11,41 kg/cm2 menjadi 77,90 kg/cm2 (583%) pada uji kering dan dari 2,66 kg/cm2 menjadi 8,41 kg/cm2 (216%) pada uji basah serta menurunkan tingkat delaminasi dari 107% menjadi 36%. Kayu lamina dari kayu keruing berminyak yang sudah diekstrak memenuhi persyaratan standar untuk digunakan sebagai komponen produk dalam ruangan.

Abstract

This research was aimed to identify the factors of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in companys position for marketing strategy application, also to create the marketing strategy that applied in Global Tropical Seafood Co. (Ltd), Karawang.  The analysis that use to evaluate the companys system are identified the internal factors combination (strengths and weaknesses), also external factors (opportunities and threats). All of the instruments in internal and external factors that identified, should be tested the validity and reliability. And to know the companys position for this time, SWOT analysis was used.   Based on validity and reliability analysiss result, its explain that all of instruments in internal and external factors are valid and reliable to determine the export marketing strategy for fish handling crop of Global Tropical Seafood Co. (Ltd) on confident level at 95 %. SWOTs analysis result explain that for this time that the company is in first level (I quadrant), which is this position very beneficial to apply the strategy which support the growth oriented strategy. Based on the formula of SWOTs analysis strategy, so the SOs (Strengths and Opportunities) strategy that support the growth oriented strategy which is applied in Global Tropical Seafood Co. (Ltd) are raising biotechnology to increase production, developing and raising the marketing mix strategy, increasing the strength of sales team who is doing the markets expansion, increasing the relationship to cooperate with potential distributor in the export target countries, markets stimulate on fishery market which is very potential, also developing and expansion market area. Abstract

This research is aimed to assess the characteristics of 3-ply laminated wood assembly incorporating wood waste belonged to three species i.e. bengkal (Nauclea sp.), pisang-pisang (Alponsea teysmanii Boerl), and jambu-jambu (Eugenia spp.).  The waste was procured from logged natural forests. The used adhesive was tannin-resorcinol formaldehyde.  The lamination experiment was replicated three times. The assessed characteristics were moisture content, density, formaldehyde emission, bonding strength, wood defect, and static bending strength.The resulting 3-ply laminated wood assembly (beam) has a moisture content at 4.00 - 13.90%, density 0.30 - 0.68 gram per cm3, and formaldehyde emission 0.323 - 3.199 mg per liter that tended to increase with the decrease in density of the laminated wood.  The bonding strength of the laminated wood ranges varied from 47.14 to 107.52 kg per cm2  (dry testing) and 40.76 - 79.57 kg per cm2  (wet testing).  Likewise, wood defect was about 80 - 100% (dry test) and 20 - 80% (wet test).  Static bending strength varied from 455.62 - 843.36 kg per cm2 (for MOE) and from 35,985.49 to 104,332.63 kg per cm2 (for MOR). Based on these data, the three wood waste species afforded good bending strength and they were suitable for reconstituting material for exterior-type laminated wood beam.
