Abstract

Background: Depression in adolescents due to increased life that full of stress (pressure) and demands are not fulfilled when solving problems. It can be caused by various factors, such as self-pressure, outside pressure, problems with friends, and also economic of family issues. Socioeconomic status relate to physical and mental health of adolescents. This study aims to determine the relationship of the economic status of parents with depression in adolescents at SMA N 8 Surakarta.   Methods: This study is a correlational study with cross sectional approach held from October to November 2013 in the SMAN 8 Surakarta. A total of 94 studens were taken by simple random sampling method. Subject was asked to fill out the form identity, informed consent and questionnaires. Then the results of the questionnaire were tested by Contingency coefficient through SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Results: The samples used were 94 students. A total of 64 students (68.1%) have parents with high economic status. The rest as many as 30 students (31.9%) have parents with low economic status. Distribution of depression showed 39.4% of students have mild depression, 31.9% of students have middle depression, the remaining 28.7% of students have severe depression. The cross distribution of these two variables showed that students with a low economic status were more severely depressed, while students with high economic status were less severely depressed. Contingency coefficient (C) statistical test of 0.248 indicates that the degree of closeness of the relationship between the two variables is weak. Conclusions: There is a relationship of economic status with the incidence of depression in adolescents at SMAN 8 Surakarta with the level of relationship between the two variables is weak. Abstract

Background: Anxiety disorder have been reported to be associate with increased rates of smoking, increased consumption of cigarettes per smoker, and lower rates of smoking cessation than non-anxiety disordered control groups. In addition, increased anxiety symptoms appear to be correlated with increased rates of smoking. This study aimed to analyze the differences of anxiety level between smoking student and non-smoking student of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. The study sample totaled 100 students, between 50 smoking students and 50 non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University class of 2008-2013 which were randomly drawn by purposive sampling technique and continued with simple random sampling. Each respondent was given one standard questionnaire of TMAS (Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale), L-MMPI (Lie-scale Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), and standard questionnaire of smokers. The TMAS questionnaire consisting of 50 “yes” or “no” option questions, L-MMPI questionnaire consisting of 10 “yes” or “no” option questions, and smokers questionnaire consisting of 3 multiple choice questions. The research data were tested with the Chi Square test, and would be continued with the Regression Linier test (α=0,1). Result: There were 13 smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 25 smoker students had moderate anxiety disorder, and 2 smoker students had high anxiety disorder. While 31 non-smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 non-smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 9 non-smoker students who had moderate anxiety disorder, there were not found non-smoker student had high anxiety disorder. From the Chi Square test resulted p<0.1 (p=0.001) and would be continued with Regression Linier. From the test result showed correlation coefficients (r) in the amount of 0.411. Conclusion: There was a differences anxiety level between smoking students and non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Art Sebelas Maret University. Tobacco consumption had a moderate relationship with anxiety level. Heavier smoking on smoker student proved to be increasing anxiety level. Abstract

ABSTRAKMasa remaja, khususnya pada usia remaja awal, berada pada tahap perkembangan emosi yang tinggi, menunjukkan sifat yang sensitif dan reaktif terhadap peristiwa atau situasi sosial, dan temperamental. Oleh karena itu remaja perlu memiliki kemampuan mengendalikan perasaan dan mengungkapkan reaksi emosi dengan tepat sehingga interaksi dengan orang lain dapat terjalin dengan baik, yang disebut dengan kecerdasan emosi. Remaja yang diasuh dengan pola asuh demokratis dan memiliki religiusitas dapat mengembangkan kecerdasan emosinya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: (1) Hubungan antara pola asuh demokratis dan religiusitas dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP, (2) Hubungan antara pola asuh demokratis dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP, (3) Hubungan religiusitas dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP.Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 26 Surakarta. Jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini ditentukan menggunakan cluster random sampling, yaitu 2 kelas sebagai uji coba dan 4 kelas sebagai sampel penelitian. Jumlah sampel yang dianalisis sebanyak 115 siswa. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan skala kecerdasan emosi koefisien Pearson 0,269 hingga 0,617 dan koefisien Alpha Cronbach 0,773, skala pola asuh demokratis koefisien Pearson 0,282 hingga 0,715 dan koefisien Alpha Cronbach 0,980, dan skala religiusitas koefisien Pearson 0,269 hingga 0,671 dan koefisien Alpha Cronbach 0,908. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis pertama adalah analisis regresi linier berganda dan untuk menguji hipotesis kedua dan ketiga adalah korelasi parsial.Hasil analisis regresi linier berganda diperoleh nilai koefisien korelasi (R) sebesar 0,678, p<0,05, dan F-hitung 47,732 > F tabel 3,09. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara pola asuh demokratis dan religiusitas dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP. Hasil analisis korelasi parsial menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara pola asuh demokratis dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP dengan koefisien korelasi parsial sebesar 0,205, p<0,05, serta ada hubungan antara religiusitas dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa kelas VIII SMP dengan koefisien korelasi parsial sebesar 0,466, p<0,05. Persentase sumbangan variabel pola asuh demokratis dan religiusitas terhadap variabel kecerdasan emosi sebesar 46%, artinya bahwa pola asuh demokratis dan religiusitas secara bersama-sama dapat memberi pengaruh untuk mengembangkan kecerdasan emosi.
