Abstract

The aim of this research to know the effect of seaweed liquid fertilizer (Sargassum polycystum) made ​​from waste materials on the growth and production of  mustard  (Brassica juncea L.) on ultisol. This research was held in gauze house, Chemistry/Soil Fertility Laboratory and Research Laboratory,  Agricultural Faculty, University of North Sumatra, Medan in June-September 2012. The sample of soil to used is ultisol. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Non Factorial with nine treatments and three replications that are twenty-seven experimental units. Treatment consists of P0 (Control), Pa2 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 2 days), Pa3 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 3 days), Pa4 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 4 days), Pa5 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 5 days), Pb2 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 2 days), Pb3 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 3 days), Pb4 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 4 days), Pb5 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 5 days). The result of experiments showed that seaweed liquid fertilizer different is not real to pH of soil, C-organic of soil, N soil, K-exchange, C/N of soil. But, real different to the P-available of soil, fresh weight of plants, fresh weight of root, dry weight of plant and dry weight of root. Abstract

This study aims to find out the use of seaweed ( Sargassum polycystum ) as a liquidfertilizer and its effect on N , P , K , Ca , Mg Ultisol and mustard (Brassica juncea L. )growth organically. The study was carried out in the Screen House and Laboratory ofChemical and Soil Fertility , and Central Laboratory , Faculty of Agriculture ,University of North Sumatra , Medan since January until March 2012. This researchused Randomized Block Design( RBD ) non factorial of nine treatments with tworeplication so there are two eighteen experimental unit . The treatment consists of P0(control) , P1 (application of liquid seaweed fertilizer A-type every two days) , P2(application of liquid seaweed fertilizer A-type every three days ), P3(application ofliquid seaweed fertilizer A-type every four days), P4 (application of liquid seaweedfertilizer A- type every five days), P5 (application of liquid seaweed fertilizer B-typeevery two days), P6 (aplication of liquid seaweed fertilizer B-type every three days ), P7( application of liquid seaweed fertilizer B-type every four days ) , P8 (application ofliquid seaweed fertilizer B-type every five days ). A-type of fertilizer use EM-4 20 ccand B-type use EM-4 40 cc. The results showed that application of liquid seaweedfertilizer did not differ significantly affected soil total P, available P, soil total K , Kexchangeable,Ca-exchangeable, Mg- exchangeable and plant dry weight. Butsignificantly different on the soil N, plant height, leaf area, number of Leaf, chlorophyllcontent, plant mass weight, plant fresh weight for market. The highest weight of plantmasss achieve on the treatment P4 that is weighing 149.1 g.Keywords: polyscystum sargassum, seaweed fertilizer, mustard (Brassica juncea L)

Abstract

The objective of this research would be to examine the micorrhyze inoculum quality of severaltypes of hosts using ultisol as growing medium on maize and soybean growth. The research hasbeen conducted in greenhouse and laboratory of Biotechnology of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture,North Sumatera University. To achieve this objective, a non-factorial group random sampling hasbeen used through some treatments: J J (maize was applied with mycorrhyze inoculum of maize), DJ (maize was apolied with mycorrhyze inoculum of soybeans), S J (maize was applied withmycorrhyze inoculum of setaria grass), T J (maize was appolied with mycorrhyze inoculum ofgroundnuts), J D (soybean was applied with mycorrhyze inoculum of maize), D D (soybean wasapplied with mycorrhyze inoculum of soybeans), S D (soybean was applied with mycorrhyzeinoculum of setaria grass), T D (soybean was applied with myzoerhyze inoculum of groundnuts).The result of research indicated that application of myzorrhyze inoculum of maize, soybean,groundnut and setaria grass to maize and soybean plants has not significant effect of increassing theheight of plants, wet weight of shoot, dry weight of shoot, wet weight of root, degree of rootinfection, uptakes of N and P in plants of maize and soybean plants.Keywords: host, mycorrhyze inocolum, maize, soybean, groundnut, and setaria grass

Abstract

This reseach aimed to determines differences ability between two types of the brown algaecompost increase fertility of Ultisol and mustard production. This research was conducted inCompos Centre, Gauze House, Laboratory of Chemistry And Soil Fertility ,Laboratory of Researchand Technology Agriculture Faculty, University of North Sumatera, Medan in March-October2013. The method used non-factorial randomized block design consisting of 11 treatments with 3replications. R0 (control), R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 with application of 50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200 g, and250 g brown algae compost respectively, R6, R7, R8, R9, dan R10 with application of 50 g, 100 g,150 g, 200 g, and 250 g brown algae add chicken dirt compost respectively.The results showed thatapplication of two types compost able to increase the pH, C-organic, N-total, K-exchange in thesoil as well as increase the plant height, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight and root dry weight. Atparameters of soil pH, the K-exchange soil, application of brown algae compost significantlydifferent with brown algae added chicke dirt compost. The best dosage of brown algae add chickendirt compost 150 g /polybag for the K-exchange soil and soil pH.Keywords : The brown algae compost, chicken dirt, mustard.

Abstract

The Analysis of Soil Texture and C-Organic Influence for Cassava Production(Manihot esculenta Crantz.) at Sub District Pegajahan, Serdang regency. The research purpose is todetermine the effect of soil texture and C-organic influence of cassava production at Sub DistricPegajahan. The research was conducted on June-July 2013. Sample was taken have a lot of 50farmers by using simple random sampling methode. The parameters was being analiysed were soiltexture and C-organic. Then appraisal data processed with regression method. Final research resultsshown that C-organic effect toward cassava production, sand, silt and clay has no significant effecttoward cassava production. The optimal C-organic for cassava production is 0,203 %, while themean C-organic more than from the optimal C-organic at Sub Distric Pegajahan.Keywords : Soil Texture, C-Organic, Cassava Production

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of brown algae compost (Sargassum polycystum)enriched with various of dosage N, P and K fertilizer against inceptisol chemical properties andmaize. This research was conducted in June – October 2013 using non-factorial randomized blockdesign, with 7 treatment and 4 replication. That is P0 (not enriched brown algae compost), P1, P2,P3, P4, P5, and P6 (compost enriched urea 2g and 4g dosage level, SP36 2g and 4g dosage level,KCl 0,5g and 1g dosage level). Applied before the vegetative period (when beginning to cultivatethe land) and before the generative period. Parameters measured d canopy, and cob with cornhuskweight. The results showed that brown algae enriched compost significantly affect the pH (H2O),K-exchange soil, plant height and cob with cornhusk. The best dosage is P5 (brown algae compostenriched with urea 4g, SP36 2g, and KCl 0,5g application on early vegetatif and urea 2g, SP36 2g,dan KCl 1g application at the end of vegetative period) against cornhusk cob weight and dry weightof maize plant canopy.Keywords : Brown Algae Compost, N, P dan K Fertilizer, Inceptisol, Maize

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of volcanic sand, sea water and zeolite to nutrient status,growth and yield of dendang rice variety. This research was conducted in highlands peat inHutabagasan, Dolok Sanggul Sub-District Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatera. Thisstudy used non factorial randomized block design with four treatments are G0 (control), G1(Volcanic sand 5 kg). G2 (Volcanic sand 5 kg + Sea water 2.5 L), G3 (Volcanic sand 5 kg + Seawater 2.5 L + Zeolite 1 kg) and 3 replicants. The treatments G2 and G3 can increase soil electricalconductivity. G3 treatment may act as soil pH buffer. Abstract

Erosion strongly influenced by vegetation, slope and erodibility. USLE method used to predictactual erosion. Vegetation factor, slope and erodibility used to examine the relationship of the actualerosion and analyzed with multivariate. Soil sampling in the upstream Sub DAS Padang at Rayadistrict, Simalungun based on vegetation, slope and erodibility with a sample size of the 33 samplepoints. The results showed that the highest erosion at 7.177,84 tons.ha-1.year-1 on the non-vegetationwith criteria levels classified as very severe erosion hazard and lowest erosion of 24,30 tons.ha-1.year-1 on the forest vegetation protected by the criteria of erosion potential as very mild.Keywords : Soil erosion, USLE method, DAS Padang

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak ganggang cokelat dan Bradyrhizobium japonicum serta interaksinya dalam meningkatkan hara nitrogen dan produksi tanaman kedelai. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Rumah Kasa dan Laboratorium Biologi Tanah Fakultas Pertanian USU pada Juni-Oktober 2014, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial, dengan 2 faktor dan 3 blok. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasi ekstrak ganggang cokelat yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan (0, 10, 20 dan 30 % / polybag) dan faktor kedua adalah Bradyrhizobium japonicum yang terdiri dari 2 perlakuan (tanpa dan dengan Bradyrhizobium japonicum). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak ganggang cokelat berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan jumlah dan bobot bintil akar, berat kering tajuk, bobot biji, dan serapan N tanaman, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan N total tanah. Pemberian Bradyrhizobium japonicum berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan jumlah dan bobot bintil akar dan berat kering tajuk, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata meningkatkan N total tanah, serapan N tanaman dan berat biji. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada kombinasi konsentrasi ekstrak ganggang cokelat 20%.Kata kunci : ekstrak ganggang cokelat, Bradyrhizobium japonicum, nitrogen, kedelai

Abstract

The aim of the research was to determinate type of Allophane minerals by means of Thermogram and to know type of Allophane minerals with Allophane–Organic Matter relations. The research was done in Dolat Rakyat villages, District of Tiga Panah Karo Regency, In Soil Fertility Laboratory University of North Sumatera, and College of Chemical Industry (PTKI), Medan in June - October 2014. Soil type is Andisol. The result of the research in Dolat Rakyat Village Tiga Panah District, Regency of Karo Thermogram interpretation showed that type of Allophane minerals Andisol that is Allophane B. Allophane-Organic Matter relations showed that type of Allophane minerals is Allophane B with positive relations between Allophane-Humic Acid; negative relations between Allophane-Fulvic Acid, and Allophane-Humic Acid+Fulvic Acid.Key Word : Allophane, Andisol, Organic Matter
