Abstract

Introduction: Lung Carcinoma is the number one cause of death from cancer. Non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) consists of three subtypes, namely squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinoma. Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is a transmembrane receptor that plays an important role in the process of cell growth. EGFR overexpression in NSCLC is often different in each NSCLC subtypes. Overexpression of EGFR protein and EGFR gene amplification can be used as predictor, of success from tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy to improve prognosis. EGFR protein expression assessment of cytology specimens is rarely, especially in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences between EGFR in each subtype of NSCLC from cytological specimen. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study consists of 80 cytology cases of NSCLC. In each case, the slide was reviewed and transfer cell was done in clusters of tumor to different new slides. Then the immunocytochemical staining was performed to investigate the expression of EGFR. Results: We found 56 in 80 cases (70%) with positive results, consisting of 24 cases of SCC, 14 cases of adenocarcinoma, and 16 cases NSCLC-NOS (Non Otherwise Specified). Negative EGFR expression obtained in 24 from 80 cases (30%).Conclusion: EGFR expression can be assesed from cytology specimens and there was a statistically significant different of EGFR expression in each subtype of non-small cell lung carcinoma, especially in squamous cell carcinoma of the lung in comparison to the other subtypes. Abstract

Introduction: To study the expression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) protein inRenal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) and its relationship with prognostic predictor factors evaluatedhistopathologically (subtype, histopathological staging, Fuhrman nuclear grading). Methods: A cross-sectional study on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue of patients withRCC who underwent nephrectomy from 2000 to 2009 and examined in the Anatomical Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia/Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (FMUI/CMH) Jakarta. Forty one cases had well-preserved paraffin block. The blocks that contains tumor area more than 70% were selected and cut 3 micron in thickness. The tissue is stained using immunohistochemical method against EGFR protein.Result: Membranous EGFR expression was found in 46% of all RCC cases (N=41) and in 54.8% of clear cell subtype of RCC (ccRCC; N=31). Cytoplasmic EGFR expression was found in 49% of all RCC cases (N=41) and 41.9% of ccRCC (N=31).Conclusion: A further study on the association EGFR expression and survival, and its comparison to other prognostic factors is necessary. The significance of EGFR expresion in the cytoplasm requires special attention and further scientific evidence. Abstract

Introduction: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays important roles in carcinogenesisand becomes target therapy nowadays. However, its roles in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) pathogenesis is still unclear. This study aimed to evaluate EGFR expression in RCC and its association with histopathological factors and patients’ survival rates. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining and histopathologic analysis were performed to RCCtissues in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, during 2004-2011. Factors we determinedwere subtype, Fuhrman nuclear grading, and pathological tumor staging (pT). Follow up to thepatients were also performed to get the survival data. The analysis used association test, and also Kaplan Meier and log rank survival analysis. Results: From 26 cases included (clear cell subtype=19), we obtained that RCC subtype has no association with survival rates (p log rank=0.475). However, histopatologic staging and nuclear grading has an association with lower survival rates (p log rank=0.004). Membranous EGFR expression was associated with higher survival rates (p log rank=0.001), but cytoplasmic EGFR expression was associated with lower survival rates (p log rank=0.048).Conclusion: EGFR expression has a prognostic value to RCC patients survival rates, and has no association with staging and nuclear anaplasia grading. Abstract

Introduction. Cervical carcinoma is still the highest prevalent malignancy in Indonesia. Therefore, early identification of the high risk lesion is needed. Antibody p16INK4Ais frequently found in high grade lesion and invasive carcinoma. The aims of study was to compare p16INK4A expression in young and old age, due to increased efficacy of prevention and early identification of invasive lesion.Methods. This cross-sectional study was performed on 30 formalin-fixed parafin embeded specimen of squamous cell carcinoma orginated from patient with young age (<30 years) and old age (45-55 years) respectively. The immunohistochemical staining was conducted againts p16INK4A protein to compare both of group. Results: P16INK4A expression in both group showed a strong result, both in nucleus or cytoplasm. However, there was no statistical difference between the expression of p16INK4A in young age groups and old age (p=0,951).Conclusion: There is no association between p16INK4A expression in young and old age. Abstract

Background: Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is an effective and safe procedure for analyzing salivary gland lesions. Various morphological and overlapping cytomorphology features can bring difficulty in diagnosis of the salivary gland lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology of salivary glands lesions. Methods: There were 107 cases of cytology and 39 cases of histopathology of salivary gland lesions collected and reviewed from the archives of Anatomical Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia / Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from 2005-2009. Seven cases of cytology were excluded, due to unsatisfactory specimens. Diagnostic test was applied to analyze the 39 pairs of cytology-histopathology cases. Results: There were 100 cases of salivary gland lesions cytology obtained, consisted of 27 negatives, eight cases inconclusive and 65 cases of neoplastic lesions. Of the 39 pair cases, fourteen cases showed result discrepancies between cytology and histopathology, with 3 false-negative cases and 1 false-positive case. The sensitivity and specificity of cytology analysis in differentiating malignant from non-malignant lesions were 82.35%, and 95.45% respectively, NPV 87.5% and PPV 93.34%.Conclusion: This study showed diagnostic accuracy of FNA cytology salivary gland lesions was varied, with 82.35% sensitivity and 95.45% specificity in differentiating malignant from non-malignant hence this information can still be used for case management. Abstract

This reserach aimed to determine the effectiveness of the training of career planning to improves the self efficacy in career decision making. As the design of study, the research used randomized pre test – post test with control group design. This study used 30 students as the subjects, which divided into two groups: 15 subjects as the experimental group and 15 subjects as the control group. Scale of the self efficacy incareer decision making was used to collecting the data, which was prepared by researcher. The results of the analysis using the Independent Sample t-Test showed that, t= 4.412 and p=0,000 (p<0,05). The results of the analysis using thePaired Sample t-Test showed that, t=-6.400 and p=0,001 (p<0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the training of the career planning could be increased the self efficacy in career decision making.
