Carbon Sequestration Potential in Aboveground Biomass of Hybrid Eucalyptus Plantation Forest

Abstract

Forests are a significant part of the global carbon cycle. Forests sequester carbon by conducting photosynthesis, which is the process of converting light energy to chemical energy and storing it in the chemical bonds of sugar. Carbon sequestration through forestry has the potential to play a significant role in ameliorating global environmental problems such as atmospheric accumulation of GHG´s and climate change.  The present investigation was carried out to determine carbon sequestration potential of hybrid Eucalyptus. This study was conducted primarily to develop a prediction model of carbon storage capacity for plantation forest of hybrid Eucalyptus in Aek Nauli, Simalungun District, North Sumatera. Models were tested and assessed for statistical validity and accuracy in predicting biomass and carbon, based on determination coefficient (R) and correlation coefficient (r), aggregative deviation percentage (AgD), and the average deviation percentage (AvD). The best general model to estimate the biomass of hybrid Eucalyptus was Y = 1351,09x^0,876. e^(0,094).  Results showed that hybrid Eucalyptus had an average above-ground biomass in year 0 (the land without the eucalyptus trees) up to year 3 as large as 1.36, 11.56, 43.18, and 63.84 t ha. The carbon content of hybrid Eucalyptus were 0.61, 5.2, 19.43 t^(-1), and 28,73  t^(-1) C ha while the carbon sequestration potential were 2.23, 19.08, 71.31, and 105.43 t^(-1) CO  ha^(-1) respectively.Keywords: biomass, carbon stock, model, hybrid Eucalyptus, plantation forest

Abstract

Estabilishment of plantation forest (HTI) is one of the land rehabilitation program in Indonesia. The goal of HTI program is to reclaim land for this purpuse. This research aims to characterize  physical and chemical change in soil after the reclamation  with Acacia mangium Wild. This research employed the survey method, and soil sampling was done purposively. Data were analyzed using a complete random design (RAL). Result  show that there were changes in soil physical and chemical properties in area planted with Acacia mangium Wild. C-organic, N-total, K, pH, and porosity of soil increased after the HTI program. Also, soil texture getting improved. P decreased during early planting was decreased, possibly because it  used  in large amounts for plant growth. After the 6th year after planting the P content started to increase. This is possibly because Acacia mangium Wild partly died-off and dead plant part decomposed and released P to the soil. Abstract

HUBUNGAN ANTARA STATUS SOSIAL EKONOMI ORANG TUA DAN INFORMASI DUNIA KERJA DENGAN PRESTASI BELAJAR SISWA PROGRAM STUDI AKUNTANSI Oleh: Siti Latifah, Pardiman, Sukanti Alumni dan staf Pengajar Jurusan Pendidikan Akuntansi FIS UNY   ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua dan Informasi Dunia Kerja dengan Prestasi belajar siswa kelas III program studi Akuntansi SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Moyudan Sleman tahun ajaran 2003/2004. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas III program studi Akuntansi di SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Moyudan Sleman tahun ajaran 2003/2004 sebanyak 76 siswa. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian populasi. Objek penelitian ini berupa  Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua , Informasi Dunia Kerja dan Prestasi belajar siswa selama satu semester. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2003 sampai Januari 2004. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan angket dan dokumentasi. Uji Validitas instrumen dengan menggunakan rumus korelasi Product Moment kemudian dikoreksi dengan rumus Part Whole Correlation, sedangkan untuk uji Reliabilitas dengan menggunakan rumus koefisien Alpha. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis kuantitatif. Setelah diadakan uji Linieritas dan Uji Multikolinieritas kemudian data diolah dengan teknik korelasi Product Moment dan Regresi Ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1). Terdapat hubungan yang positif   antara Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua dengan Prestasi Belajar siswa, dimana r hitung lebih besar dari r tabel pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan n=76 (0,382>0,227). 2). Terdapat hubungan yang positif antara Informasi Dunia Kerja dan Prestasi Belajar siswa, dengan r hitung lebih besar dari r tabel  pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan n=76 (0,495>0,227). 3). Terdapat hubungan yang positif antara Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua dan Informasi Dunia Kerja secara bersama-sama dengan Prestasi Belajar siswa, dimana R= 0,568. F hitung lebih besar dari F tabel pada taraf signifikansi 5% (17,348>5,591). Dari analisis regresi ditemukan pula koefisien determinan (R) sebesar 0,322, yang artinya bahwa Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua dan Informasi Dunia Kerja secara bersama-sama dapat memprediksikan Prestasi Belajar siswa sebesar 32,217%. Sumbangan efektif dari variabel Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua sebesar 10,891% dan variabel Informasi Dunia Kerja sebesar 21,326%. Sumbangan relatif dari variabel Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua sebesar 33,805% dan variabel Informasi Dunia Kerja sebesar 66,195%.   Keywords : status sosial ortu, informasi dunia kerja, prestasi belajar akuntansi

Abstract

Bamboo (Bambusa sp) is a forest plant that has many benefits but is not yet used by forest communities widely. This study aims to determine patterns of distribution, economic value and contribution of Bamboo.  This research was using purposive sampling technique. Based on research conducted bamboo evenly to the patterns of distribution and the dominant grows at an altitude of  700-1100 mdpl, while the highest economic value of bamboo is Rp. 9.450.000/year and the lowest economic value is Rp. 810.000/year, while the highest contribution of Bamboo to people’s income is 33,40% and the lowest contribution of Bamboo is 4,84%   Keywords: Bamboo, Distribution Pattern, economic value, contribution, income

Abstract

Daun Sang is an plant endemic of Sumatera. This plant only found in two places in Indonesia in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park and Gunung Leuser National Park. This research is important to rescue Daun Sang. Based on spatial analysis can provide important and accurate information about the habitat linkages of Daun Sang. Daun Sang of the components of a particular habitat, areas that may be used as habitat for Daun Sang, or they can be for the predict Daun Sang population in an area and view information about the condition of habitat at any given time. This study aims to map the distribution of Daun Sang and predict the level of habitat suitability based on altitude. Belt Transect used  for this research and overlap (overlay) to create a map of the distribution of Daun Sang. The results showed that Daun Sang were found scattered near each other between one individual with another individual on sloping land and grow in the shade of the trees. Daun Sang habitat suitability for altitude in the resort level Sei Betung is ≥ 60 masl and high suitability for level terrain is "very steep" (≥ 45%). Abstract

Forest act as a habitat which is one of the main elemen in orangutan lives. Increasing rate of forest degradation in recent years considerable influence on the orangutan population growth, its looks from the orangutan population decline significantly in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to the preservation of orangutans through habitat management, and ecological and quantitative aspect of orangutan become interest of this study. The methodology which used in this research are the direct observation of daily activities orangutan’s and vegetation analysis in the forest spots that have been passed by the orangutan. The result of this research shows that orangutan average active starting at 07.33 WIB and start to make a nest for sleep approximately at 18.15 WIB with an average length of daily activity orangutan approximately 10 hours 42 minutes. Daily activity averange of orangutan for proportion duration are 15,03% for feeding, 36,59% for moving, 44,82 % for resting, and 3,56% for nesting and for frequencies are 24,09% for feeding, 32,95% for moving, 37,76% for resting, and 5,2%% for nesting. The composition of forest vegetation consists of 24 species of trees, 15 species of poles, and 20 species of saplings which identified overall approximately 88,53% of food plants. PPOS forest area has an index of species diversity (Sannon Wiener index) 2.717 species of trees, 2,235 species of poles, and 2,554 species of saplings. Abstract

This research aimed to examine the potential of ecotourism and public perception of ecotourism development in the village of Huta Ginjang, District Sianjur Early, Samosir Regency. To assess the potential of ecotourism is done by observation. While the public perception through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that the village of Huta Ginjang has natural and cultural potency that can be developed as ecotourism appeal. It is also supported by the public perception that states that peoples agree on the development of ecotourism in the village of Huta Ginjang. Abstract

This research try to find out the ecotourism potential of Sosor Dolok Village toward the ecotourism development in Sosor Dolok Village. This research involves stakeholders such as residents of Sosor Dolok Village, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Forest, and the Department of Tourism. The ecotourism potential identified by using the method of observation, discussion and interviews with stakeholders, and analyzed according to the scoring criteria in the analysis orientation of objects operating area and nature tourism attraction, Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation 2003. The results of research showed that the natures potential are rice fields, coffee plantations, Sampuran Efrata Waterfall, mountain forests, and the Tower of Tele View. Abstract

Information on the potential of forest stands is necessary to know the state and the amount of natural resources contained therein. Potential stands a forest area estimates can be obtained by various methods. This study aims to estimate and compare the potential stands between sample units and determine the most efficient unit instance performed in forest crop production. This study uses systematic random sampling with a sample on circular plots and tree sampling. Circular plots used area of ​​0,05 ha (12,62 m diameter) and tree sampling using 6, 8 and 10 trees in the sample. The results showed the best efficiency levels obtained 6 trees sampling, and accuracy approaching sample of circular plots. Circular plots had the lowest sampling error. Sampling error is less than 5%, so the circular plots had the highest accuracy compared to other sample units. Thus, the circular plots is a sample of the recommended applied to the public plant forest. Keywords: Potential stands, Samples, sampling error, efficiency

Abstract

Land use and land cover is an important component in understanding the interaction of human activities with the environment. Forest management include the planning and supervision in the Karo regency forest becomes very important to do in order to prevent degradation of the forest more severe. The purpose of this study was to quantify changes in land use from 1997 to 2012 and makes predictions extensive land use in 2018 and 2024. This research methods  to utilize remote sensing technology and geographic information systems (GIS) and then compare the 5 maps of land use interpretation of Landsat ETM + (1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 ). Classification results show that the Karo Regency has 11 land cover classes. The equation obtained from the linear regressions used to predict land cover area.The results showed that widespread changes in land cover occurred in dryland farming into rice paddies. Therefore, it is necessary that proper spatial planning in Karo Regency. Key word : land use change, land cover, landsat ETM+ image
