Abstract

The increasing therapy problem including multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) has made it important to discover a new anti-TB drug candidate. The aim of this study was to acknowledge the activity of ethyl acetate extracts of kenikir (Cosmos caudatus H.B.K) and sendok (Plantago major L.) leaves against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) H37Rv. This research used Middlebrook (MB) 7H9 media and observed the growth of M. tuberculosis using Lowenstein Jensen (LJ) media. The concentration of extracts were 0.25 mg/ml, 0.50 mg/ml, and 1.00 mg/ml. The result of this study showed that ethyl acetate extracts exhibited anti-TB activity in 1000 µg/ml of both extracts. The active compound group was detected by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and the separation of compounds was shown by retardation factor (Rf) and the color of the spots. Based on TLC chromatograms, it is known that there are types of compounds, such as ortho-dihydroxy compounds, phenolic compounds, and compound leads to terpenoids for both extracts.

Abstract

Propolis is believed to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunostimulating activities. The objective of this study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract propolis (EEP) of Trigona spp. from Bukittinggi West Sumatera against Campylobacter spp. Antibacterial activity of the EEP was measured by disc diffusion method. The compound groups of the propolis were also analyzed on the existence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saphonins, tannins, steroids, and terpenoids. This study revealed that the EEP of Trigona spp. shows an antibacterial activity on Campylobacter spp. The compound groups detected in the EEP were flavonoids and tannins, suggesting that the antibacterial activity of propolis of Trigona spp. may be due to these compounds. Abstract

Persimmon, kesemek, buah kaki atau manggih hutan dalam bahasa minang adalah berbagai sebutan untuk buah yang dihasilkan oleh tanaman pohon  Diospyros kaki Thunb.  Buah kesemek mengandung berbagai nutrisi penting, anti toksik dan bahkan anti kanker. Kesemek merupakan tanaman sub tropika sehingga di Indonesia kesemek hanya beradaptasi pada ketinggian ± 1400 mdpl, seperti Alahan Panjang. Petani biasanya menggunakan anakan untuk perbanyakan, namun akibatnya tanaman membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk berbuah, lebih dari 8 tahun. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mentransfer teknologi sambung pucuk menggunakan anakan (root-sucker) sebagai batang bawah (root-stock) sebagai upaya untuk mendapatkan perbanyakan kesemek secara cepat dan tanaman cepat berbuah. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah kelompok tani Harapan Baru yang berada di Batu Bagiriek Alahan Panjang Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat dari bulan Oktober hingga Desember 2016. Metode kegiatan meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi dan pelatihan grafting. Hasil kegiatan adalah petani meningkat pengetahuannya tentang manfaat buah kesemek, teknik budidaya dan pasca panen serta mampu melakukan grafting atau penyambungan pada kesemek menggunakan root-sucker (anakan) sebagai batang bawah. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistika menggunakan analisis Likert, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan memiliki nilai indeks 92, menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan bermanfaat atau berhasil mentransfer pengetahuan dan juga keterampilan kepada petani.

Abstract

Carbon dioxide is an acid gas that can be harmful impurity especially in the chemical industry. Various processes have been developed to reduce the CO2 from the gas stream. Chemical absorption is the most economical method for CO2 separation. One of the processes that is widely used in industries is Benfield process with K2CO3 (potassium carbonate) as a solvent and amine as a promotor. In this study, MDEA (Methyldiethanolamine) is used as a promotor. As a reference for designing CO2 absorption/stripping packed column in industries, gas-liquid equilibrium data were required. The objective of this study is to predict the gas-liquid equilibria of CO2-K2CO3-MDEA-H2O system at 30oC and atmospheric pressure with 30% K2CO3 and variation of weight percent of MDEA 2, 5, 8, and 10%. The model used in this study is an electrolyte UNIQUAC. The simulation was conducted using Matlab programming. The deviation of predicted CO2 partial pressure with the experimental data is 14.85%. The energy interaction parameters of electrolyte UNIQUAC model were obtained from fitting with the experimental data by Least Square method. The results of this study represented that with increasing CO2 partial pressure, CO2 loading increased, and also at the same partial pressure of CO2, CO2 loading increased with the increase of weight percent of MDEA

Abstract

Watermelon is one type of fruit that much preferred by the public both in this country and abroad, because of the sweet taste and fresh. Indonesian Tropical Fruit Research Institute (ITFRI) has conducted a series of watermelon breeding to produce new varieties. The proposal is intended to register and to get signed list of varieties of watermelon Serif Saga Agrihorti from government through the Horticulture Variety Registration Assessment Team (TP2VH) and the Indonesian Center for Plant Variety Protection and Licensing Agriculture (PPVTPP). The plant material used in this experiment was the candidate selected watermelon accession namely Serif Saga Agrihorti, BT-4, BT-4 p, BT-5, BT-6 and Torino as checking varieties. Serif Saga Agrihorti is a new superior variety (VUB) candidate to be tested, while BT-4, BT-4 p, BT-5, BT-6 are  watermelon genotypes from ITFRI collection. Torino variety was already registered with No. 76/PVHP/2010 has a resemblance to the VUB candidate Serif Saga Agrihorti which has a spherical shape, green striped rind, red flesh color and has a seed. Serif Saga Agrihorti Watermelon (BT1) was resulted from self  fertilizing. The selection methods which used in this variety assembly are a positive mass selection combined with a negative mass selection. Superiority traits of the new varieties candidate of Serif Saga Agrihorti watermelon which has sweeter taste with total soluble solid from 10.3 to 11.7 ° Brix, dark red flesh color, granular flesh texture, light striped green fruit skin color. These candidate varieties can adapt well in Solok with an altitude between 50-500 meters above sea level. The releasing of this  candidate variety as a new variety of watermelon was expected to increase the farmers income.

Abstract

Keragaan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tanaman merupakan hasil interaksi antara potensi genetik tanaman dengan lingkungan tempat tumbuhnya. Untuk mengetahui tanggapan genotipe terhadap lingkungan perlu dilakukan evaluasi dengan menanam berbagai varietas tanaman di wilayah pengembangan. Tanaman yang mempunyai penampilan fenotipe unggul dan adaptif di wilayah pengembangan akan dipilih menjadi kandidat varietas unggul. Tujuan penelitian adalah mendapatkan pepaya hibrida yang mempunyai penampilan fenotipik terbaik. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Dramaga, Bogor (Jawa Barat) pada bulan Januari sampai Desember 2012. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan sembilan perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Setiap unit perlakuan terdiri atas lima tanaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hibrida P 24 mempunyai karakter unggul paling banyak (lima karakter), yaitu tinggi tanaman paling rendah, diameter batang lebih besar, jumlah buah lebih banyak, ukuran buah kecil, dan padatan total terlarut cukup tinggi. Hibrida P 21 dan P 31 mempunyai keunggulan jumlah buah cukup banyak, ukuran buah sedang, daging buah agak tebal dan keras. Beberapa dari hibrida F terpilih terbukti memiliki keunggulan karakter morfologi sehingga potensial dikembangkan sebagai komoditas unggul di tanah air.

Abstract

Rambutan merupakan tanaman menyerbuk silang sehingga secara alami memiliki keragaman tinggi. Penelitian bertujuan mempelajari kemiripan genetik dan pengelompokan aksesi plasma nutfah rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) dan kapulasan (Nephelium ramboutan-ake) di Indonesia berdasarkan karakteristik morfologi. Penelitian dilakukan di (1) Kebun Percobaan (KP) Aripan Balai Penelitian Tanaman Buah Tropika, (2) KP Subang Balai Penelitian Tanaman Buah Tropika, (3) KP Cipaku Balai Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian Jawa Barat, dan (4) Kabupaten Limapuluh Kota (Sumatera Barat), pada bulan Juni 2013 sampai Februari 2014. Karakterisasi sifat morfologi dilakukan terhadap 29 aksesi rambutan dan empat aksesi kapulasan mengacu pada descriptor for rambutan yang diterbitkan IPGRI. Perhitungan koefisien ketidakmiripan antaraksesi dilakukan dengan metode Gower. Analisis nominal logistic biplot dilakukan untuk melihat sifat penciri dari suatu kumpulan aksesi. Analisis keragaman genetik dapat membedakan kelompok rambutan dan kapulasan dengan koefisien ketidakmiripan rerata sekitar 55%. Berdasarkan kerapatan tandan, rambutan dapat dikelompokkan menjadi lima kelompok, yaitu aksesi yang memiliki tandan sangat jarang, jarang, sedang, rapat, dan sangat rapat. Aksesi dengan tandan rapat sampai sangat rapat antara lain aksesi Gendut Kair, Tangkue, dan Aceh Gendut, sedangkan semua aksesi kapulasan memiliki tandan yang sangat jarang. Berdasarkan ketebalan kulit buah, semua aksesi rambutan memiliki ketebalan kulit sedang sampai tebal, sedangkan aksesi Sibabat diketahui memiliki kulit yang sangat tebal.

Abstract

Kandungan flavonoid dalam buah talok (Muntingia calabura L.) terbukti memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Perlakuan hidrolisis mampu meningkatkan aktivitas antioksidan melalui pembebasan aglikon flavonoid dari bentuk glikosidanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh hidrolisis asam dan basa serta waktu hidrolisis terhadap aktivitas antioksidan fraksi air ekstrak etanolik buah talok. Ekstrak kental etanolik buah talok difraksinasi menggunakan n-heksan, fraksi yang tak larut heksan diuapkan dan ditambah akuades kemudian dipartisi dengan etil asetat. Fase yang larut air diuapkan sehingga didapatkan fraksi air. Fraksi air ekstrak etanolik kemudian dihidrolisis menggunakan HCl dan NaOH 2N selama 1 jam dan 3 jam. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan fraksi air dan fraksi air terhidrolisis menggunakan metode penangkapan radikal DPPH. Hasil ini selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan uji paired-samples t-test pada SPSS for Windows 17.0. Untuk mengidentifikasi flavonoid yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan, dilakukan analisis kualitatif kromatografi lapis tipis (KLT). Penampakan bercak dilakukan menggunakan uap amonia, pereaksi semprot anisaldehid asam sulfat, AlCl3, FeCl3 dan DPPH. Aktivitas antioksidan fraksi air terhidrolisis asam 1 jam dan 3 jam berturut-turut 9,5 dan 1,5 kali lebih poten dari fraksi air, sedangkan pada basa 1 jam dan 3 jam sebesar 2,5 dan 6,5 kali. Aglikon flavonoid terbebaskan pada hidrolisis asam dan basa memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang berbeda. Nilai IC50 fraksi air terhidrolisis asam 1 jam dan 3 jam sebesar 20,55 dan 97,88 μg/mL, sedangkan pada basa 1 jam dan 3 jam sebesar 66,64 dan 25,53 μg/mL. Hidrolisis asam 1 jam memiliki aktivitas antioksidan lebih besar daripada yang dihidrolisis 3 jam sedangkan pada basa aktivitas antioksidan terbesar ditunjukkan pada 3 jam.

Abstract

In this work, vapor pressure of binary systems for isooctane + ethanol, isooctane + n-butanol and ethanol + n-butanol and ternary system for isooctane + ethanol + n-butanol were measured in the temperature range from 313.15 to 318.15 K using the inclined ebulliometer. The experimental results showed that the existence of n-butanol in isooctane decreases the vapor pressure of mixture, while increasing n-butanol fraction in ternary isooctane-ethanol-n-butanol mixture decreased vapor pressure of mixture. Experimental data for binary systems studied were correlated with Wilson, NRTL and UNIQUAC models with average relative deviation (ARD) of 3.5%. The optimized binary parameter pairs obtained in this work were used to estimate the ternary system. The Wilson model gave the best performance for estimation of ternary system with ARD of 5.4%. All systems studied showed non-ideal solution with positive deviation from Raoult’s law.
