Abstract

Forty eight gilts with average body weight of 107.83 + 5.08 kg were used in experiments to study the use of pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) as superovulation agent in gilts to increase piglet production. Four groups of twelve gilts were injected with PMSG dan hCG dose levels of 0, 600, 1200, and 1800 IU/gilt. Injections were conducted three days before estrus. During gestation, gilts were placed in colony pigpens. On days 15, 35, and 70 of gestation, gilts were slaughtered in order to measure the number of corpus luteum, growth and development of the uterus and placenta. Blood samples were collected to determine progesterone and estradiol concentrations. The resuts showed that superovulation dose levels of 600 to 1200 IU/gilt increased progesterone and estradiol secretions, growth and development of the uterus and placenta in gestation ages of 15, 35, and 70 days. It is concluded that superovulation with dose of 600 to 1200 IU can improve the gilts reproduction. Key words: gilts, superovulation, gestation, progesterone, estradiol, corpus luteum

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is degeneratif disease with high prevalence that happens in many countries. Several studies had been done to control diabetes by using green tea, mullberry leaf  tea, and their mixture. The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of the administration green tea, mullbery leaf tea, and their mixtures to blood glucose level of diabetic rats both during 120 minutes after administration. This research had four phases, first to determine the best mullberry leaf tea, second to fourth phases respectively, determine turnover of blood glucose level on normal rats; attempt during 120 minutes on diabetic rats.  The result of research during 120 minutes have showed that blood glucose level on diabetic rats which were administered by green tea, mullberry leaf tea and their mixture is significantly difference with diabetic rats which were administered by water. Blood glucose level at baseline increased at 30th minutes and showed the difference significantly and then until 60th and 120th minutes and relatively stable. During 120 minutes after feed consumption, inhibition of blood glucose level occured increasingly on diabetic rats which were administered by green tea, mullberry leaf tea, and their mixture compared to diabetic rats which were administered by water. Abstract

Empat puluh lima (45) ekor anak tikus jantan umur 1 hari digunakan pada penelitian ini. Anak tikus dibagi menjadi satu kelompok kontrol dan dua kelompok perlakuan yaitu; 1) Kelompok perlakuan gelap (D) dan kelompok ini dibagi lagi menjadi 4 sub kelompok perlakuan berdasarkan jumlah hari gelap yaitu; a) 6 hari (D6), b) 12 hari (D12), c) 18 hari (D18) dan d) 24 hari (D24), dan 2) kelompok perlakuan cahaya (L) juga dibagi menjadi 4 sub kelompok yaitu; a) 6 hari (L6), b) 12 hari (L12), c) 18 hari (L18) dan d) 24 hari (L24). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa lama pemberian cahaya memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap pertumbuhan dan perkembangan Nukleus Suprachiasmatik (NSC). Pertumbuhan anak tikus pada pemaparan cahaya yang berbeda selama periode menyusui menyebabkan rataan pertambahan berat badan baik pada kelompok perlakuan gelap maupun cahaya sangat lambat dengan meningkatnya lama perlakuan. Aktivitas anak tikus berupa (jarak tempuh, awal pergerakan, gerakan di tempat maupun total pergerakan di tempat, dan lama waktu istirahat semakin pendek), cenderung meningkat sebanding dengan lama cahaya. Sedangkan pada perlakuan gelap terjadi sebaliknya yaitu cenderung menurun. Tidak ada perbedaan pengaruh pemaparan cahaya dan gelap terhadap perubahan kadar hormon T3 dalam plasma darah tikus.

Abstract

The quail’s egg have value of nutrient which similar to the chicken’s egg and the duck’s egg. Various of the programme of the light to improve repair of the quantity and the quality of the quail egg. The objectives of this research were to applied monochromatic light to repair the quality and quantity of the quail egg. Two hundred and seventy female quails (DOQ) were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication, the treatments were without light, controls with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of 15 and 25 lux. Control treatment used incandescent bulb. The red, green, and blue lights were provided by light emitting diodes (LED). All lights treatment were given for 14 h daily, started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters measured were amount of the egg weekly, henday egg production, and quality of the egg consist of the weights of the egg, protein and fat of the egg. The result showed that quails exposed to blue light had higher of the amount of the egg, henday production, and the weights of the egg, while the quality of the egg, such as protein and fat in the egg were not change (P>0,05). Blue light could be used to improve repairing quantities of the quail egg.

Abstract

Deposited calsium makes of the eggshell is influnce of the light. The objective of the study was evaluate exposed of monochromatic light to obtain basic information of the physiology aspect of calcium satus in the quail which direct relation with quality of the eggshell. Two hundred and seventy quails were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication. The treatments were without light, controls with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of 15 and 25 lux. Control treatment used incandescent bulb. The red, green, and blue lights were provided by light emitting diodes (LED). All lights treatment were given for 14 h daily, started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters measured were serum calcium concentrations, calcium contents in bone and the eggshell, weights and thichness of the eggshell. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the differences between treatments groups were subjected for Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). All of the data analyzed were done GLM (general linear model) procedure in the SAS program. Quails exposed to monochromatic light had higher serum calcium concentrations and calcium contents in bone (P<0,05). Blue light could be used to increase quality of the eggshell.

Abstract

Light plays an important role in the avian life. The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of monochromatic light on serum estrogen concentrations and profile the oviduct, that were the length and weight of the oviduct in the quail. Two hundred and seventy quails were divided into nine treatments of light, with ten replications and three quails in each replication. The treatments were without light,  controls  with 15 and 25 W, red, green, and blue lights with intensities of  15 and 25 lux. Control  treatment used incandescent bulb.  The red,  green,  and  blue lights  were  provided  by   light emitting   diodes  (LED). All lights   treatment   were   given   for   14 h  daily,   started from 17.00 to 07.00. Parameters   measured  were  serum estrogen  concentrations, and  weights  and  lengths  of   the  oviduct  on  weeks 5,  7,  and  9.  Quails   exposed  to  monochromatic   light had  higher  serum  estrogen  concentrations (P<0,05). Quails  exposed to monochromatic light had  better  weights  and  lenghts of  the  oviduct  development. Blue light could be used to increase serum estrogen concentrations and stimulate shell gland development.

Abstract

ABSTRACTStress and glucocorticoids are two interrelated aspects and both have a strong influence on brain function,the system of the hupothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and a number of target tissues in the central andperipheral nervous system. Low and high levels of glucocorticoid is affected by stress. The higher levels ofstress glucocorticoid production will be higher, and vice versa. Stres and glucocorticoids can causeinterference neuropathology that induces the emergence of signs of aging or accelerated aging.Neuropathology disorders caused by stress and glucocorticoids can be a disruption in learning and memoryneurons, the process of neurogenesis, synaptic plasticity between neurons, atrophy and death of neurons.Aging caused by stress and glucocorticoids can be observed on behavioral aspects, the electrophysiologic,histologist, and anatomic (Sains Medika, 2(2):207-220).Key words: Stress, glucocorticoids, neuropathology, aging, learning and memory neurons, synaptic plasticity,neurogenesis, atrophy, death of neuronsABSTRAKStres dan glukokortikoid merupakan dua aspek yang saling berkaitan dan keduanya mempunyai pengaruhyang sangat kuat terhadap fungsi otak, sistem aksis hipotalamus-pituitari-adrenal dan sejumlah jaringantarget pada sistem saraf pusat dan perifer. Rendah dan tingginya produksi glukokortikoid sangatdipengaruhi oleh tingkat stres. Semakin tinggi tingkat stres, produksi glukokortikoid akan semakin tinggi,demikian pula sebaliknya. Stres dan glukokortikoid dapat menyebabkan gangguan neuropatologis yangmenginduksi munculnya tanda-tanda penuaan atau mempercepat penuaan. Gangguan neuropatologiyang disebabkan oleh stres dan glukokortikoid dapat berupa gangguan pada neuron learning and memory,proses neurogenesis, plastisitas sinaptik antar neuron, atropi, dan kematian neuron. Abstract

Tempeh extract is a natural substance that contains phytoestrogens, having similar estrogen activity. This study was designed to determine the potential of tempeh extract in improving the quality bone in premenopausal conditions, and to compare the natural product of tempeh extract with commerciallyavailable hormones (genistein, ethinylestradiol, and somatotropin). Experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisted of 7 experimental groups, each consisted of 3 rats i.e.,1) K= premenopausal rats as a negative control, 2) P = premenopausal rats given distilled water orally as a placebo, 3) TEM = premenopausal rats given tempeh extract 300 mg/day/200g body weight, 4) GEN =premenopausal rats given genistein 0.25 mg/day/kg body weight, 5) EST = premenopausal rats givenethinylestradiol 9x10-3 mg/day/200g body weight, 6) SO = premenopausal rats injected with sesame oil/day/kg body weight, 7) BST = premenopausal rats injected somatotropin 9 mg/day/kg body weight. The parameters observed were the bone and serum calcium and phosphorus concentrations, bone ashconcentrations, bone collagen concentrations, bone water concentrations, bone RNA concentrations, bone length, bone weight, bone density, and bone strength. Supplementations of tempeh extract for two months in premenopausal rats could improve the quality of bone, which was characterized by the increased bone calcium concentrations, ratio of Ca/P on tibia bone, bone ash levels, bone density, and bone strength

Abstract

Background: Physiological aging or aging due to oxidative stress causes to disruption of glutathione homeostasis of the hippocampus. Disruption of glutathione homeostasis characterized by a decrease in hippocampus glutathione levels below the normal threshold. Decreased levels of glutathione in the hippocampus was demonstrated decreased hippocampus function. One way to increase glutathione levels in the hippocampus and the function of hippocampus is to increase the concentrations of glutathione precursor. One of the glutathione precursors is alanine-glutamine dipeptide. This research was designed to obtain the most effective level of alanine-glutamine dipeptide supplementation to improve glutathione synthesis in the hippocampus of aged and oxidative-stressed rats. The highest glutathione concentrations in the hippocampus showed the best improvement on the hippocampus function in physiological aging or oxidative-stress aging rats.Design and Methods: The experimental rats were assigned into a completely randomized design with 2x2x4 factorial arrangement. The first factor was the age of the experimental rats, consisted of two levels i.e., 12 and 24 months. The second factor was oxidative stress consisted of two levels, i.e., without or with oxidative stress. The third factor was the level of alanine-glutamine dipeptide administration consisted of 4 concentrations, i.e. 0%, 3%, 5%, and 7%.Results: The results showed that administration of 7% alanine-glutamine dipeptide has resulted the highest levels of glutathione hippocampus in younger (0.0154 mg/mg tissue) or aged (0.0140 mg/mg tissue) rats or in normal (0.0150 mg/mg tissue) and in oxidative-stressed (0.0144 mg/mg tissue) rats. The increased hippocampus glutathione levels were associated to the improved functions of the hippocampus. Conclusion: alanine-glutamine dipeptide administration of 7% consentrations gave the best results on repair function of the hippocampus and has the potential to slow aging, both physiological aging or oxidative-stress aging rats (Sains Medika, 4(1):1-12).
