Isolation of Molds for Reducing the Color of Vinase

Abstract

Vinase or ethanol slop is blackish brown liquid, which is not friendly to the environment. Therefore, it is necessary the possibility to reduce the color biologically. The study was started by isolating molds from the vinase of Jatiroto Alcohol factory and the isolated molds was tested to study the capability of their color reduction. The results showed that there were 4 kinds of molds in the vinase i.e. : Rhizopus sp., Penicillium A, Penicillium B, and Aspergillus. Amongst these molds, Penicillium A and Penicillium B had the best potency in reducing the slop color. Around 54 % of its absorbency value at 420 nm could be reduced by the molds.

Abstract

There is a tendency to concentrate housing area in southern part of Jember territory. This demographic condition caused traffic congestion during the rush hour. The objectives of this research are for estimating the priority weights of mode election, estimating the form of modal election models, and analyzing the sensitivity of factors in election of mode. Based on AHP, the result showed that the safety factor is become the main priority (46%), then the second is cost (41%), the third is time (8%) and the last is comfortable (5%).  Based on the various factors that give effect to mode election, it’s known that lyn is the lowest priority (7%), motor cycle is 48% and car is 45%. The sensitivity analysis result, it’s known that decreasing and increasing of priority for each criterion do not give any significant changing in the election of lyn as working trips alternative transportation mode.

Abstract

A study on the treatment of Sugar Factory wasted water by using biological aerobic process was carried out at a laboratory sacle. Cow dung and chicken dung were used as inoculum to raduce the organic compounds is waste water. The levels of inoculum concentration used were 5; 10; 15; 20; and 25 per cent. The experiment was conducted bt a one way completely randomize design. The treatment process was followed by observing the changes in the BOD and COD parameters. The results showed that the chicken dung inculum reduce COD content up to 73-76 per cent and BOD content up to 81-86 per cent. The cow dung inculum reduced COD and BOD contents up to 97-92 percent and up to 65-95 per cent respectively.
