BLOOD SMEAR EVALUATION OF BALI DUCKS SAMPLED FROM TRADITIONAL FARMING SYSTEMS IN BALI

Abstract

Research to confirm the abnormalities of blood corpuscles in Bali ducks based on blood smear examination has been conducted. The research samples consisted of 105 ducks from various regencies in Bali. The blood smear examination was conducted by the method described in this literature and the data was collected and tabulated by means of the descriptive method. Erythrocyte abnormalities were: polychromasia (61.9%), anisocytosis (17.1%), poikilocytosis (21.0%). Abnormalities associated with leukocyte composition were: Lymphopenic (46.7%); Heterophylic (44.8%); Heteropenic (3.8%), also Thrombocyto penia (2.9%) was present in 105 ducks. In conclusion 61,9% ducks examined deal with regenerative anaemia. They also have some blood abnormalities such as basophylia, eosinophylia, heterophylia, heteropenia, lymphopenia, and monocytosis.

Abstract

Hemagglutination activities and phenotypic expressions of fifty-five S. agalactiae isolates consisted of 19 standard and 36 field isolates from subclinical mastitis cattle were observed. Five (eighteen); 3 (4); 2 (7); 1 (2); and 5 (11) isolates (numbers in brackets indicated field isolates) were able to hemagglutinate cattle, horse, sheep, chicken, and human erythrocytes, respectively. The distribution of hemagglutination pattern was discissed in this paper.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak pegagan terhadap total eritrosit, kadar hemoglobin, dan packed cell volume pada tikus putih jantan. Penelitian ini menggunakan 15 ekor tikus putih jantan dengan berat badan ± 300 gram dan umur 12 minggu. Tikus ini kemudian dibagi dalam 5 perlakuan yaitu kelompok OA, OB, OC, OD, dan KT.  Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus. Kelompok  OA: 100 mg/ekor (0,2 ml); OB: 200 mg/ekor (0,4 ml); OC: 300mg/ekor (0,6 ml); OD: 400mg/ekor (0,8 ml) dan KT sebagai kontrol diberikan aquades 0,2 ml. Pemberian ekstrak pegagan diberikan secara oral setiap hari selama 7 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak pegagan dari dosis 100 mg/ekor, 200 mg/ekor, 300 mg/ekor, dan 400 mg/ekor berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap gambaran peningkatan total eritrosit, PCV, tetapi tidak mempengaruhi kadar hemoglobin jika dibandingkan dengan control yaitu masih dalam batas normal.

Abstract

For the evaluation of clinical tests in veterinary laboratories a reference basis of normal values ofclinically healthy farm animals is essential. It is well known that variables such as breed, age and sex havean influence on many blood parameters. The reference value of blood chemistry of bali cattle is scanty. Theaim of the current study was to evaluate blood chemistry of bali cattle includes alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), urea, creatinine and glucose, measured by an auto analyzer.These data were used to establish reference intervals in bali cattle of different ages and sex. Blood wascollected from 195 (21 young males, 54 adult males, 60 young females, and 60 adult females) clinicallyhealthy bali cattle by means of jugular venipuncture. Values from different age and sex were comparedstatistically. The results of the study was obtained that ALT and blood glucose significantly higher inmales Bali cattle (P <0.05) then in females. ALT, AST and urea were significantly higher in adults Balicattle (P<0.05) then in young Bali cattle. However, glucose of young Bali cattle was higher when comparedwith the adult. There was no significant difference in the creatinine levels between adults and the youngones. The results of the current study provide reference intervals for clinical chemistry of Bali cattle

Hitung Diferensial dan Kelainan-Kelainan Sel Darah Sapi Bali (DIFFERENTIAL COUNT AND ABNORNALITIES OF BALI CATTLE BLOOD CELLS)

Abstract

Research on blood smear and various disorder in Bali cattle have been conducted at 124 oxen and 76cows. Blood specimens taken from cattle slaughtered cattle in Slaughterhouse Mambal Badung Regency,Bali and blood smear were performed   by a method described elsewhere.Results showed the mean of differential count of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophilsand bands in female Bali cattle bands respectively (average + standard deviation): (47.76 ± 12.13)%, (9.84± 5, 32)%, (39.09 ± 12.55)%, (2.25 ± 2.40)%, (0.33 ± 1.18)%, (0.21 ± 1.01)%. In bali cattle males, thoseresults were : (46.48 ± 8.18)%, (9.84 ± 4.35)%, (40.51 ± 8.29)%, (1.48 ± 1.69)%; (0.45 ± 0.84)%, (0.57 ±0.99)%. Abnormalities that were found are: eosinophenia, monocytosis, Neutrophilia, lymphopenia andlymphocytosis, anisocytosis, poikilocytosis (the presence of akhantocytes, dacrocyt), and hypochromasia.In summary Bali cattle are observed to have abnormalities in the blood cells.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the toxicity of red betel  (Piper crocatum) extract in diabeticwhite rat based on ALT and AST activities. This research used 20 male white rats, which randomlydivided into five groups, P1: given only aqua; P2: given alloxan 120mg/kg bw; P3: given alloxan 120 mg/kgbw and red betel leaf extract 50 mg/kg bw; P4: given alloxan 120 mg/kg bw and red betel leaf extract 100mg/kg bw; P5: given alloxan 120 mg/kg bw and glibenclamide suspension 1 mg/kg bw. ALT and ASTactivities were measured by using reflovet plus Machine. The collected data were analyzed by usinganalysis of covariance. The result showed no significant  effect (P>0.05) was observed on giving red betelleaf extract in diabetic white rat for ALT and AST activities.  It can be concluded that red betel leaf extractis potential for diabetic treatment in white rat  and it is not toxic for the rat’s ALT and AST activities.

Kadar Glukosa Darah Anjing Kintamani

Abstract

Penentuan kadar glukosa darah anjing kintamani menggunakan Accu-check Active dilakukan di laboratorium Patologi Klinik Veteriner, Fakultas Kedoktern Hewan Universitas Udayana. Sampel darah diambil dari 50 ekor anjing kintamani untuk menentukan kadar glukosa acak dan 10 ekor untuk mengetahui kadar glukosa darah puasa dan dua jam setelah makan. Sampel darah diambil dari vena chepalica. Anjing yang dipilih sebagai sampel adalah anjing kintamani milik penduduk di daerah Denpasar dan Kintamani. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan rerataan kadar glukosa normal darah anjing kintamani secara acak sebesar 86,62 mg/dl  19,09, jantan adalah 84,10 mg/dl  19,11  dan betina 89,81 mg/dl  19,01..  Pada keadaan puasa kadar glukosa darah anjing kintamani adalah 73,4 mg/dl  5,98,   jantan 74 mg/dl  2,82 betina 73 mg/dl  7,69. Kadar glukosa darah anjing kintamani dua jam setelah makan sebesar 75,6 mg/dl  6,13, jantan 76,25 mg/dl  2,36 dan  betina 75,76 mg/dl 7,98. Hasil ini masih berada dalam kisaran normal berdasarkan standar acuan Graham. Dengan demikian Accu-check Active dapat dipakai untuk menentukan kadar glukosa darah anjing kintamani.

Abstract

Pencegahan terhadap penyakit Newcastle Disease (ND) dan Avian Influenza(AI)  pada ayam petelur dilakukan dengan cara vaksinasi. Keberhasilan vaksinasi dapat dideteksi dengan pemeriksaan titer antibodi yang mencerminkan respon imun ayam  pasca divaksinasi. Titer antibodi dipengaruhi oleh kerja sel-sel dari organ limfoid primer maupun sekunder. Sistim imun melibatkan sel-sel leukosit terutama sel-sel limfosit. Respon imun yang diperankan oleh leukosit sifatnya spesifik dan non spesifik Respon imun nonspesifik diperankan oleh monosit atau makrofah, eosinofil, basofil, dan heterofil, sedangkan respon imun spesifik diperankan oleh limfosit.  Leukosit terdiri dari neutrofil (pada unggas dinamakan heterofil), eosinofil, basofil, limfosit dan monosit.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui total dan diferensial leukosit ayam petelur pascavaksinasi ND-AI. Penelitian dilakukan pada peternakan ayam petelur komersial di Desa Denbatas, Kecamatan Tabanan, Bali. Sebanyak 30 ekor ayam petelur digunakan untuk sampel penelitian. Vaksinasi dilakukan dengan vaksin kombinasi ND-AI yang merupakan gabungan vaksin ND strain Lasota dengan vaksin AI subtipe H5N1. Ayam divaksinasi pada umur 18 minggu menjelang  masa bertelur. Pengambilan sampel darah ayam dilakukan sebanyak dua periode yaitu dua minggu dan tiga minggu pascavaksinasi. Pemeriksaan total leukosit dilakukan dengan kamar hitung, sedangkan diferential leukosit diperiksa dari preparat hapusan darah dengan  pengecatan Giemsa. Data hasil pemeriksaan total dan diferensial leukosit dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa ayam mengalami leukopenia dan heteropenia yang kemungkinan disebabkan karena  faktor hormon dan stres akibat pengambilan darah.
