Abstract

The research discusses about the energy saving techniques in the design of data logger devices based on AVR microcontroller for monitoring parameters of the air temperature and sunlight intensity in the visible light spectrum. These energy reduction techniques include hardware aspects such as the use of the minimum system, peripherals power supply control and software such as sleep-mode. When the intensity of the sun light increase, the interrupt pin will activate the system, otherwise if the light intensity decreases the system is in a state of sleep-mode. The electrical energy consumption of the data logger continuously recorded on an external memory (SD card) in real-time so that the energy for 24 hours can be known and the long-term-use energy can be predicted. Based on the results of measurements and calculations it is known that it takes energy of 8.23 Wh to turn the data logger for 24 hours. With this reduction technique, the data logger energy consumption can be reduced by 68.5%.Keywords: data logger, energy saving, sun, sleep mode, interrupt

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract. One of the goals of learning mathematics in school is to improve the ability of problem solving, the student was required to have a higher thinking skills such as critical thinking skills. Use of appropriate critical thinking skills will greatly assist students in improving problem-solving abilities. In addition to critical thinking, another very important aspect to be improved in mathematics learning is positive views of students towards mathematics or known as mathematical disposition. Problem posing approach that requires students to ask questions and make the settlement is expected to be able to develop students thinking skills, especially critical thinking skills and mathematical change students views of mathematics became more positive.  This study aims to assess the improvement of critical thinking skills and dispositions that are taught to students mathematical problem posing approach and students are taught with conventional teaching. This study is a design experiment using pre-test post-test control group design. The population in this study is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Banda Aceh in the school year 2012-2013. Samples were taken two classes VII3 class as the experimental class and the class as a class VII4 control through random sampling technique. The instrument used to obtain research data is test critical thinking skills questionnaire sheet-scale mathematical and mathematical disposition. The statistical test used to analyze the data increase critical thinking skills and dispositions are mathematically ANOVA test two paths. The results showed that an increase in critical thinking skills and dispositions that are taught to students mathematical problem posing approach better than students taught with conventional teaching. Keywords: Problem Posing Approach, Critical Thinking Mathematically, Mathematical Disposition.

Abstract

Abstract. The low ability of students mathematical understanding and communication as well as the importance of both the enhanced capabilities require a learning model that provides the opportunity for students to construct their own knowledge, one of models is generative learning model. For this reason, researchers interested in conducting research on the application of generative learning model in mathematics learning activities. This study was an experimental study with quantitative approach aimed to obtain the increase in the ability of students mathematical understanding and communication in mathematical learning using generative learning model reviewed based on the overall student and the student level. This study used a pretest-posttest design with control group. Data collecting by using a test to determine the gain of ability students mathematical understanding and communication. Based on analysis of the data concluded that (1) the increase of students mathematical understanding abilities which learning obtain by generative models better than the increase of students mathematical understanding abilities taught by conventional learning reviewed by overall student or student level, (2) the increase of students mathematical communication abilities taught by learning generative models better than the increase of students mathematical communication abilities which taught conventional learning reviewed based on the overall student and the student level,    (3) there is no interaction between the factors of the learning approach with the level of mathematical ability and the increase of students mathematical understanding, and (4) there is no interaction between factors learning aproach and the level of students to the improvement of students mathematical communication abilites.Keywords: mathematical understanding abilities, mathematical communication abilities, generative learning model, conventional learning.

Abstract

Mathematical proof is one aspect that must be considered in learning mathematics in school. One of the obstacles that students experience on geometry is the difficulty of constructing proof. The specific learning materials are not available yet. To achieve that goal required a  learning materials for teaching mathematical proof using Guided Inquiry model. This research is a developmental research using ADDIE model consisting of five stages, namely Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stage. The experimental subjects in this study were one class of students at year 12 at one of senior high school at Banda Aceh. Based on the results obtained that the learning materials consisting of lesson plan, students’ worksheet, handout, and test are categorized as valid, practical, and effective. The recommandation of this study is learning materials can be implemented for teaching mathematical proof in senior high school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between the improvement of mathematical creativity and self-confidence of students after PMR-based humanistic learning based on student level (high, medium, and low), and interaction between the learning levels of students after application of humanistic learning with PMR based on mathematical creativity of students. This study used a purely experimental research with research design shaped in "pre test - post test". The samples of this study were randomly choosen, and two classes were taken, namely class X-MIA4 as the experimental class (PMR-based humanistic learning), while class X-MIA7 as the control class (conventional learning). The instrument used was a mathematical creativity tests and questionnaires of self-confidence. The statistical test (the t-test of independent sample t-test) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there were differences increase between mathematics creativity and self-confidence of students after the applied learning humanistic-based PMR and students who received conventional learning, both overall and by subgroups, and there was an interaction between the learning strategies and subgroups of students (high, medium and low) to creativity math students.

Abstract

Abstract. Geometry is one of the subjects studied at the high school level. Learning geometry includes the position, distance, and angle of the elements of a space. This study was a qualitative study aimed to look at the students mastery of geometry. Subjects in this study were students in high schools in Banda Aceh were categorized in high school, medium, and low. Categories of student mastery of the geometry were analyzed based on mistakes made by students in answering the questions. Based on the data analysis it can be concluded that (i) high school students in Banda Aceh had not mastered geometry, (ii) there were mistakes made by students in answering the question of geometry. Mistakes made by students include misconceptions, operation, and analysis, (iii) the student mistakes caused by (1) not mastered the concepts, (2) inability to perform the operation, and (3) not able to perform the analysis in accordance with the expected completion problem. Important information obtained through this study was that the mistakes made by students in solving geometry had a close connection with the students mastery of geometry.Keywords: Mastery students, geometry, misconception, mistake perform arithmetic operations, mistake analysis

Abstract

Abstract: The ability of mathematical problem solving and communication of high school students is still low, it is one of the main problems in mathematics education. Hence the need for the application of learning that can improve the ability of problem solving and mathematical communication students learning, one application of learning that can improve this ability is the application of learning in jigsaw Cooperative. This study aims to determine the increase in the problem solving and mathematical communication students as a whole or in groups. Another goal that you want to see in this study is to determine whether there is interaction between the application of learning and grouping students to increased problem solving skills and mathematical communication students; and the attitude of students towards learning Jigsaw cooperative. Popolation in this study were all students of class XI of SMAN 1 Bukit Bener Meriah by taking samples of the two classes (class experiment acquire contextual approach to learning and conventional learning gain control class) through purposive sampling of five parallel classes are available. This research is experimental and instrument used is the type of the test (about problem solving and communication) and non-test (student attitude scale). Collecting data using test instruments such as problem solving and communication abilities as well as the mathematical scale questionnaire students attitudes toward the implementation of cooperative learning jigsaw. To see the differences between the students increased ability experimental group with the control group used the t-test with a significance level of 0.05 after testing prerequisites are met. The results showed that an increase in problem-solving and communication abilities of students receiving mathematical cooperative learning jigsaw better than students who received conventional learning. There is no interaction between the application of learning and ability grouping of students to an increase in mathematical problem solving and communication students. Based on the analysis of student attitude scale showed a positive attitude towards learning with contextual approach. Keywords: Student Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Mathematical Ability Student Connection, Jigsaw Cooperative Learning mode.

Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that can train students in developing critical thinking, logical, creative, effective and systematic as well as assist in the development of personality and reasoning power of a person. Hopefully, with these capabilities that students can face all kinds of challenges in todays modern era. This study aims to determine the increase in critical thinking skills students acquire mathematical learning with problem based learning model in terms of: (a) the whole student, and (b) the level (high, medium, and low) ability of students. This study uses a quantitative approach with the experimental method. The population in this study are all class XI student of SMK Negeri 5 Banda Aceh and a sample of the research is class XI RPL-1 as an experimental class and class XI RPL-2 as the control class. The data were analyzed with the average gain is normalized between the two classes. The results showed that an increase in the ability of critical thinking mathematical students acquire learning with problem based learning model is singnifikansi better than on the ability of critical thinking mathematical students who received conventional learning when viewed from the overall and by level (high, medium, and low) ability of students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine enhancement the ability of understanding and communication mathematically by applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) in the learning activity. The population in this study were students of SMAN 3 Banda Aceh with a sample of two classes. Type of research is experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group was treated with a model of learning in the form of PBL and the control group with conventional learning. Data were collected using achievement test and observation sheets during the learning takes place. The results of data analysis showed that     1)there are significant differences in increased ability mathematical understanding of students who received PBL learning compared to conventional learning are reviewed as a whole and based on the level of students, 2) there is an interaction between the factors of student learning at low levels and moderate to increased understanding of mathematical abilities, but no interaction at a high level because the student already has a good ability of mathematical understanding, 3) there are significant differences in enhancement communication skills students acquire mathematical learning by PBL compared to students who received conventional learning is reviewed based on the whole student, but there is no difference if the review is based on the level of the student, 4) there is interaction between the factors of student learning at low levels and moderate to increased mathematical communication but no interaction at a high level because students already have a good mathematical communication skills.
