Abstract

Cirebonis is one of the major of economic distribution network in the archipelago. This city has created a network of its own culture, so many social transformations and their cultural phenomena often appear in different forms with centers of cultural mainstream, both culture (and language) Sundanese or Javanese. The research question is how hybrid’s culture formed according to the city growth?. How cultural hybridity practice is a process of cross-cultural as genealogical heritage of community? Studies using ethnographic approach through in-depth interviews and direct observation was about to explain how Cirebon community articulate their views on the city and the mapping of the ethnic relationship, which is between the Sundanese as owner of the mainstream culture with Wong Java (Java Koek) as the holder of marginal culture. This study found that the cross-cultural process have resulted in cultural hybridityis never clearly demarcated. It could even give birth to new cultural patterns that are more inclined to the mainstream culture, oral so the marginal culture, as seen in the case of cross-cultural marriage that gave to the language selection, the Sunda Koek or Jawa Koek, different with each cultural center

Abstract

Hutan, sebagai bagian terpenting biodiversitas dikenal memiliki nilai manfaat langsung, nilai manfaat tidak langsung, dan nilai lain yang tidak sekedar diartikan secara komersial. Nilai terakhir ini mencakup nilaiwarisan peradaban, budaya dan eksistensi lingkungan dan masyarakatnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap nilai dan pandangan hidup yang melekat pada sistem sosial dan budaya yang melahirkan tradisi pelestarian lingkungan masyarakat adat Tau Taa Vana, Kabupaten Tojo Una-Una, Sulawesi Tengah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelestarian hutan berkait erat dengan pandangan masyarakat terhadap sakit, penyakit beserta praktik penyembuhannya. Eksistensi hutan tidak hanya diorientasikan sebagai pemenuh kebutuhan hidup, tetapi juga merupakan ekspresi keseimbangan. Tuhanalam dan manusia. Termasuk di dalamnya praktik pengobatan bakum valia dan mobolong yang memanfaatkan tanaman obat dari hutan. Selain dipersepsikan sebagai sumber penyakit, hutan juga sebagai pusat penyembuh sakit dan penyakit.

Abstract

Humaniora, suatu disiplin ilmu yang dianggap sama tua­nya dengan peradaban manusia. Dalam khazanah pemikiran Islam, disiplin ilmu ini tidak hanya dikembangkan oleh ahli ilmu adab (sosial kemanusiaan), tetapi juga oleh para teolog skolastik yang sebenarnya sangat berhati-hati dalam mengembangkan analisis dan interpretasi konteks terhadap teks-teks keagamaan. Perbedaan sudut pandang di antara keduanya pun melahirkan metode dan paham keilmuan yang ikut menyumbang tradisi perkembangan ilmu humaniora Barat. Sumbang an pemikiran Islam itu kemudian diakui Barat, sebagai buah imaginative geography dari perspektif orientalisme yang meng anggap Timur sebagai liyan (al-ãkhar). Usaha menjadikan kembali Timur sebagai diri (al-anã), oksidentalisme, pun begitu tampak dalam gerakan kontemporer disiplin ilmu humaniora. Disiplin ilmu ini kemudian me­wujud sebagai alat analisis konteks terhadap sendi-sendi kehidupan masyarakat, yang tidak lagi semata tertuju pada kajian sastra dan ke­bahasaan. Perkembangan mutakhirnya tidak lepas dari jasa pemikir an rasional para ahli ilmu kalam (teolog) yang ditandai dengan menguat nya tafsir atas teks (tura>th). Secara fungsional, pemikiran Islam dalam jejak kajian humaniora telah ikut membuka kritisisme baru pengembang an masyarakat dan ilmu penge tahuan.

Abstract

Hundreds of Islamic higher education has been developing in Indonesia. Despite its existence, the struggle may not yet be considered significant compared to public universities. On the other hand, Indonesia has a high level of multiculturalism and major religious communities which can trigger a better product of Islamic higher education. This fact shows that prominent problems still rise both in the structure and paradigm of the distinct teaching, also in the level of how scholar responses in contemporary issues. The blame can be taken to the reality that the learning paradigm and structure are still providing limitation in specific religious knowledge. In order to establish an Islamic higher education to be called the center of learning and research as an agent of civilization development, the religious and integral social culture education must be capable in determining the cultural context and geo-history of the people which affects both the internality of a religion and the daily practices. Puluhan bahkan ratusan pendidikan tinggi agama Islam telah ada di Indonesia. Bila dibandingkan dengan pendidikan tinggi umum, kiprahnya pun masih belum terlihat banyak. Padahal, di tengah tingkat keberagamaan dan jumlah pemeluk agama yang besar, tentu keberadaan dan perannya bisa lebih dari apa yang terlihat sekarang. Artinya, ada masalah krusial, baik dalam struktur dan paradigma keilmuan yang diajarkan, maupun tingkat pemahaman para sivitas dalam menjawab isu-isu kontemporer. Ujung pangkalnya tetap satu, yaitu struktur dan paradigma keilmuan yang masih sebatas pengkajian spesifik ilmu-ilmu agama saja. Pendidikan integral ilmu agama dan keilmuan sosial kebudayaan yang bisa membaca dan mengangkat konteks kultur dan geo-historis masyarakat, yang berpengaruh dalam internalisasi keagamaannya ataupun praktik kehidupan pelaku, sangat penting untuk dirumuskan dan ditetapkan sebagai bagian tidak terpisah mencipta pendidikan tinggi agama Islam yang menjadi center of learning and research, sekaligus agen perubahan di masyarakat.

Abstract

Kemiskinan masyarakat nelayan secara faktual terjadi di mana-mana. Ia tidak hanya disebabkan oleh faktor internal dalam mekanisme produksinya, tetapi juga oleh keadaan eksternal yang tercipta di lingkungannya. Tradisi dan kelembagaan tradisi tidak selalu dianggap baik dan mampu menjaga eksistensikehidupan orang miskin. Bahkan, keduanya bisa menjerumuskan atau semakin membenamkan orang miskin pada kemiskinan absolut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode etnografi. Penelitian etnografi masyarakat nelayan ini berupaya memberikan tawaran jalan keluar berdasarkan potensi dankarakter kebudayaan masyarakat dalam menghadapi kemiskinannya. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil kajian adalah sebagai berikut. Buwoh dan bank titil di Kaliori Rembang Jawa Tengah telah menjadi bukti otentik bagaimana tradisi yang dikemas oleh para pencari rente lebih kejam dari jeratan utang bakul yang selama ini dituduh sebagai penyebab utama kemiskinan nelayan. Meskipun kondisi faktual kemiskinan itu tidak serta merta mendorong nelayan menjadi penganut konstruksi instrumental, peran pemerintah dalam menstimulasi tradisi dan kelembagaan tradisi yang mereduksi kemiskinan harus dipacu dalam bentuk kebijakan dan program. Title: The Fisher’s Poverty: Case Study of External Causes and Tradition Revitalization effort to Poverty Allevation in the Kaliori of Rembang, Central JavaPoverty in fishing communities occurs factually in everywhere. It is caused not only by internal factors in the mechanism of production, but also by external circumstances that are created in its environment. Tradition and traditional intitutions are not always considered good and able to maintain the existenceof poor’s life. In fact, they can plunge the poor people into absolute poverty. The research is conducted by using ethnographic method. This ethnograhic research of fishing communities attempted was to offer solution based on potention and character of public culture against their poverty. Data were analysed using qualitatove description method. Results of the study were as follows. Buwoh and Bank Titil in the Kaliori of Rembang, Central Java have become the authentic evidence of how traditions created by rente seekers are crueller than debt of bakul bondage that has been accused as the main cause of fisher’s poverty. Although the factual condition of poverty does not necessarily encourage fishers to be adherents of the instrumental construction, the role of government in stimulating the tradition and tradition institutions that reduce poverty must be driven in the form of policies and programs.

Abstract

The making image of cultural pradices of santri in the City of Kudus is very unique; it is a mixture of the modern consumtive culture and traditional productive culture. The accommodative form of both cultures has influenced the. symbols of traditional city, considered as the saint city, which has many religious meanings. Mall Kudus means not only as the centre of consumptive economy, but also as the cultural centre that tries to meet traditional and modern elements in their covers. Santri, then, becotnes a groupf of people who enjoy best this condition. This article tries to answer the main question about the position of Mall Kudus in the process of the formation of comsumtive culutre of Santri. After collecting data by using interoiews, observation, and documentation, and analyzing by using qualitative explanatory method, this research shows the relationship between the maagement of urban space and the formation of cousumtive culture of santri. This conclusion is based on the aspect of the management of urban spaces, especially the building of Mall, which exspressively creates the consumtive culture of the santri; even the traditional santri. Abstract

The relationship between Islam and Christianity in various regions is often confronted with situations caused by external factors. They no longer debate the theological aspect, but are based on the political economy and social culture aspects. In the Dieng village, the economic resources are mostly dominated by Christians as early Christianized product as the process of Kiai Sadrach's chronicle. Economic mastery was not originally as the main trigger of the conflict. However, as the political map post 1965, in which many Muslims affiliated to the Indonesian Communist Party convert to Christianity, the relationship between Islam and Christianity is heating up. The question of the dominance of political economic resources of Christians is questionable. This research to explore the socio cultural and religious impact of the conversion of PKI to Christian in rural Dieng and Slamet Pekalongan and Banjarnegara. This qualitative research data was extracted by in-depth interviews, observations and supported by data from Dutch archives, National Archives and Christian Synod of Salatiga. Research has found the conversion of the PKI to Christianity has sparked hostility and deepened the social relations of Muslims and Christians in Kasimpar, Petungkriono and Karangkobar. The culprit widened by involving the network of Wonopringgo Islamic Boarding. It is often seen that existing conflicts are no longer latent, but lead to a form of manifest conflict that decomposes in the practice of social life.
