Abstract

This study is designed in the form of experiment with the design of control group and posttest only aimed at investigating the role of learning that teaches metaphorical thinking in improving senior high school teachers’ mathematical questioning ability. The population of this study was senior high school teachers of mathematics in West Java province and the samples were 124 senior high school teachers of mathematics set purposively and randomly to be included into the experimental class and control class. Based on the results and discussion, it is concluded that: (1) mathematical questioning ability of the teachers who received metaphorical thinking learning is better than those who received conventional learning; (2) learning factors and KAM (Kemampuan Awal Matematis = Prior Mathematical Ability) affect the achievement of teachers’ mathematical questioning ability. In addition, there is an interaction effect between the learning and KAM in developing teachers’ mathematical questioning ability; (3) teachers’ mathematical questioning ability has not been achieved optimally on the indicators submitting problems in the form of non-routine questions and open-ended questions.

Abstract

Salah satu fungsi pendidikan adalah sebagai proses pembentukan pribadi. Dengan demikian pendidikan harus mampu berperan dalam menyiapkan peserta didik membangun kepribadian, dan menumbuhkan nation and character building, diantaranya adalah memiliki visi, komitmen, konsisten dan tanggung jawab. Pembelajaran matematika humanis yang dilaksanakan oleh guru bersama siswa di kelas memegang peranan penting pada pembentukan karakter. Pembelajaran ini akan membentuk nilai-nilai kemanusiaan dalam diri siswa. Selain memahami dan menguasai konsep matematika, siswa akan terlatih bekerja mandiri maupun bekerjasama dalam kelompok, bersikap kritis, kreatif, konsisten, berpikir logis, sistematis, menghargai pendapat, jujur, percaya diri, dan bertanggung jawab. Kemudahan dalam mempelajari matematika dapat membuat siswa menghargai dan mencintai matematika. Dengan adanya ketertarikan dalam belajar matematika membuat siswa percaya diri bahwa pelajaran sesulit apapun dapat dipelajarinya.Kata kunci : matematika humanis, pembangunan karakter, kepercayaan diri

Abstract

The problem raised in this research is that students' ability in making mathematical connections is still relatively low. This is because some of the theories in the learning of teachers still enjoy this way of learning, meaning that the students are only recipient of information without inspiration to active. Therefore, the authors are interested to conduct research by applying an NHT cooperative model setting to improve mathematical connection ability of junior high school students. This study aims to determine whether the knowledge of mathematical connections of junior high school students using learning methodology is better than junior high school students using ordinary learning. This research was conducted in SMP Krida Utama Padalarang Class VII, with research method the research used is quasi-experimental method. The sample of this research is taken two classes namely class VII A as experiment class and class VII B as control class. The research instrument is a set of mathematical connection test questions consisting of 5 test questions, and then tested by using a statistical test of differential. Based on the results of research and data processing, the authors conclude that the ability of mathematical connections of junior high school students whose learning using open-ended approach with learning model setting NHT type cooperative learning is better than the mathematical connection ability of junior high school students whose learning using ordinary learning.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menelaah peranan strategi PQ4R terhadap kemampuan komunikasi dan kemandirian belajar  siswa SMP,  serta asosiasi antara keduanya. Penelitian ini adalah bagian dari tesis magister dan bagian dari Penelitian Hibah Pascasarjana DIKTI pada tahun 2015. Studi ini adalah suatu quasi eksperimen dengan disain pretest-postes kelompok kontrol yang melibatkan 66 siswa kelas 8 dari satu  SMP di Karawang yang ditetapkan secara acak. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes uraian kemampuan komunikasi matematik, dan skala kemandirian belajar, dan skala persepsi siswa terhadap strategi PQ4R. Studi menemukan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang mendapat strategi PQ4R lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional, dan kemampuan komunikasi itu tergolong sedang. Siswa mash mengalami kesulitan dalam membuat model matematik dan menyelesaikannya berkenaan sistim persamaan linier dua dan tiga variabel. Namun, tidak terdapat perbedaan kemandirian belajar siswa pada kedua pembelajaran tersebut.  Selain itu ditemukan pula tidak terdapat asosiasi antara kemampuan komunikasi  matematik dan kemandirian belajar. Kata Kunci    :   komunikasi matematik, kemandirian belajar, strategi PQ4R  ABSTRACT This study was intended to analyze the role of PQ4R strategy toward students’ mathematical communication ability and self regulated learning (SRL). This study was a part of a master thesis and a sub-study of a Postgraduate Research Grant from DGHE in 2015. This study was a pretest-postest quasi-experimental control group design involving  80 tenth-grade students of  a yunior high school in Karawang which were chosen randomly.The instruments of this study are an essay test on mathematical communication ability, and a mathematical self regulation learning (SRL) scale. The study revealed that students getting treatment on PQ4R attained better grades on mathematical communication ability than students taught by conventional teaching, though the grades were at medium level. Students realized difficulties in compiling mathematical model and solving it of linier equation system of two and three variables. However, there was no difference in grades of self regulated learning between students in the two groups and the grades were fairly good. Also, there was  association between mathematical communication  ability and self regulated learning. Keywords:            mathematical communication, self regulated learning, PQ4R

Abstract

This studyis a post test experimental control group design conducted in 2013by using Problem Based Learning (PBL)to investigate students’ mathematical communication,mathematicalcritical thinking abilityand disposition. The study involves 76 students of grade-11 from a senior high school in Cimahi. The study employs three kinds of instrument namely mathematical communication and mathematical critical thinking tests and mathematical critical thinking scale. The study found that the grade of mathematical communication ability of students taught by PBL was classified as fairly good and it was better than the grade of students taught by conventional teaching that classified as medium. However, there was no different grades of mathematical critical thinking ability and of disposition of students in the both classes. The grades of mathematical critical thinking of students were classified as medium, and the grades of mathematical critical thinking disposition of students were classified as fairly good.  The other findings there were not association among mathematical communication,critical thinking abilities and mathematicalcritical thinkingdisposition.

Abstract

This control-group posttest-only experimental design study aims to investigate the role of learning that teaches metaphorical thinking in mathematical questioning ability of junior high school teachers. The population of this study was mathematics junior high school teachers in West Java province. The samples were 82 mathematics junior high school teachers selected using random purposive sampling for experimental class and control class. It was concluded that: 1) the teacher‘s mathematical questioning ability who received metaphorical thinking learning is better than those who received conventional learning; 2) learning factors and KAM (Kemampuan Awal Matematis = Prior Mathematical Ability) affect the achievement of teachers’ mathematical questioning ability; there is an interaction effect between learning and KAM in developing teachers’ mathematical questioning ability; 4) teachers’ mathematical questioning ability does not reach optimal for submitting non-routine and open-ended questions indicator.Keywords: KAM, Mathematical Questioning Ability, Metaphorical Thinking DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.8.1.3614.55-64

Abstract

This research aims to develop learning tools of mathematics junior high school with a contextual approach as a tool for learning mathematics. The subjects are 34 students in the eighth grade of junior high school. The research method used is development research by referring to ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The instruments are validation sheets of student worksheet, questionnaires, and test results. Results of this research are: (1) the validation result of student worksheet is in very good category; (2) the result of a questionnaire of student response is in very good category; and (3) the result of the students learning test is in a good category. So that, student worksheet is feasible from the aspect of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

The aim of the research  to know the level of student  problem solving skill of  Senior high school students on their  mathematical problem and activity concentration. The object of the research was conducted  at one of Senior high school of Cimahi. the Subject  of the research  is all  twelve grades of Senior high School Students of Science Program in Cimahi. The research used descriptive qualitative research to describe the student analysis error on doing the question of problem solving ability. The data of the research was found using diagnostic of series and rows and also student questionnaire. Data collecting technique used Miles and Huberman concept  that are reduction data, reporting data and draw the conclusion. The result of the research are: (1) the level of the ability to solve the problem is still low (2) the common student error did not understand the questions and have no ability to communicate in mathematical form. (3) the student’s activity is rated strong. Some solutions can be given to increase student problem solving ability through practice or question drill structured  and gived the variety questions as material practice.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pencapaian dan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa SMA. Siswa SMA masih merasakan kesulitan dalam belajar matematika terlebih mempelajari materi trigonometri. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan contextual teaching and learning agar siswa dapat lebih mudah memahami materi yang dianggap sulit tersebut. Melalui habits of mind siswa dapat terbiasa dalam berpikir kreatif dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan trigonometri dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan isntrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan skala habits of mind yang diberikan kepada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas X di SMAN 15 Bandung. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diketahui bahwa pencapaian kemampuan berpikir kreatif yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan contextual teaching and learning lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif yang menggunakan pendekatan contextual teaching and learning lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Dan habits of mind siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan contextual teaching and learning lebih baik dibandingkan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat sejauh mana kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa SMP yang meliputi memahami masalah, merencanakan strategi, menyelesaikan masalah dan memeriksa kembali.Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-I SMP 1 Pasundan Cimahi.Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes.Sedangkan teknis yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data menggunakan rata-rata dan persentase.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa masih rendah, dilihat dari persentase menyatakan bahwa siswa belum bisa memahami masalah dan memeriksa kembali permasalahan yang diberikan oleh guru.Secara keseluruhan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa khususnya pada mata pelajaran matematik berada pada kualifikasi rendah. Kata Kunci:Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah  Matematik     The objectives of this research is to mathematical problem solving skills of students in junior high school, including understanding problems, planning strategies, solving problems and re-examining. The subject of this research is the students of class VIII-I SMP 1 Pasundan Cimahi. Technique of collecting data using test technique. While the technical used to analyze the data using the average and percentage. The results showed that students mathematical problem solving ability is still low, seen from the percentage stated that the students can not understand the problem and re-examine the problems given by the teacher.
