Interlanguage In Error Analysis Study

Abstract

Interlanguage theory is naturally a constantly evolving theory, having changed considerably since its initial formulation. It is, therefore, not an easy task to produce an accurate account of the theory. The aim of this article is basically to provide a brief and composite account of the interlanguage theory. In so doing, some crucial issues are accordingly viewed: (1) error analysis, (2) stages of interlanguage development, (3) Interlanguage transfer, (4) fossilization, (5) input hypothesis, (6) and pidginization fossilization, I ginization as well. There is in fact considerable disagreement about how best to characterize the nature of an interlanguage system. Nevertheless, this principle is able to account for insights provided byform-function analysis.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT IN GUESSING AND MAKING INFERENCES TECHNIQUES

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) meneliti apakah ada perbedaan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa antara mereka yang diajarkan melalui teknik menebak dan melalui teknik menyimpulkan dan (2) menentukan salah satu dari dua teknik tersebut yang lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa. Peneliti menggunakan desain pretest posttest kelompok independen dalam menganalisa data. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI IPA 4 dan XI IPA 5. Hasil penelitian mengindikasi bahwa teknik menebak lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan teknik menyimpulkan dalam meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa. Nilai rata-rata posttest pada kelas eksperimen adalah 73.62 sedangkan pada kelas kontrol adalah 67.80. Nilai dari dua ekor signifikan adalah 0.000 yang berarti bahwa  ditolak dan diterima dimana 0.000 < 0.05.The objectives of the research are (1) to investigate whether there is any significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between those taught through guessing and through making inferences techniques and (2) to determine which one is more effective of the two techniques. The researcher applied independent group t-test in analysing the data. The sample of the research was Natural Science 4 and Natural Science 5 students. The finding indicated that guessing technique was more effective than making inferences technique in improving students’ reading comprehension achievement. The mean score of posttest in experimental class was 73.62 while in control class was 67.80. The value of two tailed significant was 0.000 which meant that  was rejected and  was accepted since 0.000 < 0.05.Keywords: guessing technique, improving, making inferences technique, reading

THE USE OF PICTURE SERIES TO INCREASE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan picture series untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam procedure text di kelas tiga SMPN 1 Gadingrejo dan aspek yang paling meningkat. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas IX.5 dengan jumlah siswa 30 orang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan desain one group pretest-posttest. Kemampuan berbicara siswa akan diberi nilai berdasarkan aspek micro skill yaitu pronunciation, vocabulary, dan grammar kemudian dianalisa dan dihitung dengan menggunakan SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari pretest dan posttest meningkat dengan signifikan dari 47,47 ke 62,93 dan level signifikansi 0,00 (<0,05). Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa vocabulary adalah aspek yang paling meningkat dengan peningkatan sebesar 7,10. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa picture series dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran berbicara, khususnya procedure text.. Untuk penelitian mendatang disarankan untuk fokus ke aspek macro skill. This research was aimed at investigating the use of picture series to increase students’ speaking ability in procedure text at the third grade of SMPN 1 Gadingrejo and what the most increasing aspect is. The subject of this research was class IX.5 with 30 students. This was quantitative research with one group pretest-posttest design. Students’ speaking were given score based on micro skill aspects they are pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar then analyzed and computed by using SPSS. The result showed that the mean score from pretest and posttest increased significantly from 47.47 to 62.93 and the significant 2-tailed was 0.00 (<0.05). The result also showed that vocabulary is the most increasing aspect with the increase about 7/10. It could be concluded that picture series is able to be used as a learning media for speaking, especially for procedure text. For the further research is suggested to focus on speaking macro skill aspects.Keywords: picture series, procedure text, speaking ability.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TASK-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) apakah implementasi TBL di dalam teks recount dapat meningkatkan nilai membaca komprehensif siswa, 2) opini siswa tentang penggunaan TBL dalam mengajar membaca komprehensif, 3) masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam pembelajaran membaca komprehensif dengan menggunakan TBL. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes membaca, wawancara, kuesioner, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari pre-test adalah 46,8 dan nilai rata-rata dari post-test adalah 65,60, dengan nilai penambahan 18,8. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukan bahwa hipotesis diterima (p=0.000, p<0.005), t-value 7,714. TBL telah meningkatkan kemampuan membaca komprehensif siswa dalam semua aspek. Opini-opini siswa tentang implementasi TBL dalam membaca komprehensif bagus. Para siswa memiliki masalah dengan batas waktu dan jumlah gambar.This study is aimed at finding out: 1) whether there is any significance increase of students’ reading comprehension achievement after the application of TBL for teaching reading comprehension, 2) the students’ opinions about the use of TBL, and 3) the problems faced by the students in learning reading comprehension through TBL. The data were obtained from the reading tests, interview, questionnaire, and observation. The results show that the students’ mean score of the pre-test is 46.8 and their mean score of the post-test is 65.60, in which their gain score is 18.8. The result of the hypothesis test showed that the hypothesis of this research was accepted (p<0.05,p=0.000), t-value was 7.714. TBL increased the students reading comprehension ability in all of its aspects. The students’ opinions about the implementation of TBL in reading comprehension were good. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SCANNING TECHNIQUE IN INCREASING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract

 Abstract: The major objective of this research was to find out whether or not scanning technique could be used to develop students’ reading comprehension achievement significantly. The students were given four treatments. As the instrument of the research, reading test comprising of multiple choice test that were administered in both pretest and posttest.The data was computed using SPSS version 15.0 at the level significant .05. According to the calculation of t-test, the result shows that there is significant increase on students’ reading comprehension after being taught through scanning technique (p<.05, p=.000) which can be seen from the mean score of pretest 46.27 and that of post test 66.67 with the increase 20.40. It indicates that scanning technique is effective to increase the students’ reading comprehension achievement. In conclusion, the students’ reading skill especially in identifying the specific information increases through scanning technique as the technique in teaching reading comprehension. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan perbedaan signifikan pada prestasi menulis siswa setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik mind mapping dan apakah mind mapping dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan aspek menulis pada istilah organisasi, kosa kata, dan tata bahasa. Penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif berdasarkan desain eksperimental. Sampel dipilih secara acak dengan menggunakan lotere yaitu kelas XI IPA1. Data diperoleh dengan mengadakan pretest, posttest dan treatment. Peneliti menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test dalam menganalisa data yang dikumpulkan. Level signifikan adalah 0,05 dan hipotesa dibuktikan jika tanda <p. Hal itu dapat dilihat dari hasil t-test yang menunjukkan sig. (2-tailed)  adalah ,000. Ini dapat diperkirakan bahwa H1 diterima dan H0 ditolak karena 0,000 < 0,05. Jadi kita dapat menyimpulkan bahwa ada peningkatan signifikan dari prestasi siswa setelah mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik mind mapping.The aims of this study are to find out significant difference in students’ writing achievement after being taught by using mind mapping technique and whether or not mind mapping can be used to increase students’ writing aspect in terms of organization, vocabulary, and grammar. This research was quantitative based on the experimental design. The sample was chosen randomly by using lottery that was XI IPA1. The data were gained by administering pretest. posttest and treatments. The researcher used Repeated Measure t-test in analyzing the data collected. The significance level is in 0.05 and the hypothesis is approved if sign <p. It can be seen that t-test result showed sig. (2-tailed) is .000. It can be inferred that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected since 0.000 < 0.05. IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH WORD WALL

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: untuk menyelidiki apakah Word Wall dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest-posttest. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas empat B SDIT Wahdatul Ummah Metro. Hasil tes menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari pretest dan posttest yang mencapai 27.07. Nilai rata-rata pretest 54.00 sedangkan posttest 81.07. Analisa yang dilakukan menggunakan t-test menunjukkan t-ratio -12.500 dan t-table -2.060. Dengan membandingkan t-ratio dan t-table dimana t-ratio lebih rendah dari t-table yang menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kosa kata yang signifikan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Word Wall dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata siswa.  Sehingga Word Wall dapat direkomendasikan sebagai teknik pengajaran alternatif dalam pengajaran kosa kata. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is a significant improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught through word wall. This research was conducted using one group pretest-posttest design in which analyzed by using t-test. The subject of there research were students of IVB of SDIT Wahdatul Ummah. The result of the test showed that there is an increase of 21.07 calculated from pretest and posttest. The mean of pretest is 54.00 while posttest is 81.07. The result of t-test showed that t-ratio -12.500 and t-table 2.060. By comparing t-ratio and t-table, it was found that t-ratio is higher than t-table. It can be concluded that Word Wall may give positive effect in improving students’ vocabulary mastery so that Word Wall can be recommended as an alternative on in teaching vocabulary. Keywords: content word, noun, verb, vocabulary, word wall

Abstract

This research was conducted at the first year of students at SMAN 3 Kotabumi. The study investigated the use of scanning technique in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement especially in identifying specific information. The major objective of this research was to find out whether or not scanning technique could be used to develop students’ reading comprehension achievement significantly. This researh applied one group pretest posttest design. Students were given four treatments.The hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 15.0 at the level significant .05. TEACHING WRITING THROUGH KWL (KNOW, WANT, AND LEARN) TECHNIQUE

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to investigate how KWL Technique can improve students writing hortatory exposition text in class XI IPS 4 of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung and to find out whether KWL Technique is effective to teach writing hortatory exposition text under which writing elements applied. The research was conducted at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. The population of this research was the students of class XI IPS 4 at that school. This research used one group time series design. It took six meetings with test on each meeting. This applied three topics i.e. computer, internet, and facebook. The indicator of the research dealt with the increase of students‟ mean and students‟ number who passed KKM. Besides, the instrument used in collecting the data was writing tests. The result of the tests indicated that KWL Technique is effective to teach writing hortatory exposition text under which writing elements applied. It could be seen that the increases of mean of topic I, II, and III were 15.42, 14.91, and 16.48. Meanwhile, the increase percentages of students‟ number who passed KKM were 61.97%, 43.90%, and 53.66%. It showed that the increase of students‟ ability in writing hortatory exposition text was good. In addition, KWL Technique improves students‟ writing of hortatory exposition text by three elements of writing namely content, vocabulary and language use.  Keywords: hortatory exposition text, KWL technique,writing

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menemukan perbedaan yang signifikan pada nilai membaca siswa setelah diajarkan melalui strategi get-the-gist, (2) menemukan  peningkatan  nilai membaca siswa setelah diajarkan melalui strategi get-the-gist ,dan (3) mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang siswa hadapi dalam pembelajaran keterampilan membaca makro. Data didapat dari soal-soal membaca dan kuesioner dan diolah menggunakan SPSS 16.0. Hasil menunjukan bahwa t-ration lebih besar daripada t-table (8.103> 2.056). Itu berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai pre-test dan  post-test pada nilai pemahaman membaca siswa. Peningkatan antara pre-test dan post-test adalah 14.04. Itu berarti bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan pada nilai membaca siswa. Data dari kuesioner menunjukan bahwa siswa merasa bosan untuk membaca. Ini dikarenakan keterampilan membaca dalam bahasa Inggris itu sulit dan tidak menarik. Siswa masih merasa kesulitan menjawab soal-soal khususnya pertanyaan dalam aspek membaca.The objectives of the research were: (1) to find out whether there is a significant difference on students’ reading achievement after being taught through get- the- gist strategy, (2) to find out whether there is an improvement on students’ reading  achievement after being taught through get- the- gist strategy, and (3) to find out the problems the students face in learning macro skills of reading comprehension. The data were collected by means of reading tests and questionnaire, and the data were computed using SPSS 16.0. The results showed that  t-ratio was higher than t-table (8.103>2.056). It means that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The increase between pre-test and post-test was 14.04. It means there was a significant improvement of the students’ reading achievement.The questionnaire-based data showed that students felt bored to read. It was due to reading in English was difficult and not interesting. They still faced difficulties answering the questions especially in reading aspects.Keywords: get-the-gist, reading, reading achievement.
