Abstract

Tingginya tingkat keterulangan kasus urolitiasis baik pada hewan maupun manusia, menuntut penelitian dalam mencari solusi menurukan angka keterulangan. Penelitian urolitiasis membutuhkan hewan model urolitiasis yang sesuai dengan kondisi sebenarnya. Salah satu metode yang digunakan adalah menciptakan kondisi hiperoksaluria. Penggunaan induksi etilen glikol menjadi metode yang paling umum digunakan. Induksi ini menghasilkan kristal kalsium oksalat monohidrat.

Abstract

Based on WHO’s data, about 80% peoples in the word use plant’s extract as herbal medicine. Avocadoleaves has used as herbal medicine which is works as diuretikum, reduce stone in renal, and cure sprue.The purpose of this research is to study activities of ethanol extract of avocado leaves to ethylene glycolinduction on rat’s kidney by histopatologically. This experiment was continuing Adha’s research (2009)with research design as follows: twenty male rats were divided into 4 groups, negative control group (KN),positive control group (KP), treated group I by ethanol extract of avocado leaves 100 mg/kg BW (E100), andtreated group 2 by 300 mg/kg BW (E300). Sampling kidney were fixed in BNF 10% for histopathologicalslide and stained by Hematoxylin-Eosin. The kidney histopathological changes were edema of glomerulus,and protein deposit in the lumen, hyalin droplet and necrotic tubules. The results showed that ethanolextract of avocado leaves can’t significantly to reduce glomerulus edema with percentage cases 31.9% and33.5% for E100 and E300 and tend not to reduce the occurrence of protein deposits in the lumen of thetubule. Ethanol extract of avocado leaves tend to reduce the incidence of tubular necrosis and it wassignificantly different from the KP group (p <0.05). It is caused by flavonoid in etanol extract of avocadoleaves works as diuretikum and antioxidant.

Abstract

Urine crystal is a crystal nucleus which tend to form urine stone. The case of urine stone seems to beincreased every year. Crystallization could induce acute tubular necrosis which impact on renal dysfunction.The signs of this condition are high level of urea, creatinine and decrease glomerulus filtration rate. Theobjective of this research was to evaluate the effects of infusum Persea americana Mill as an inhibitorcrystallization which induced by ethylene glycol on white male rats. 20 male rats were divided into 4groups; K1 as negative group received only distilled water ad libitum, K2 as positive group receiveddistilled water containing ethylene glycol, K3 (dose 5%) and K4 (dose 10%) as treatment groups receivedwater containing ethylene glycol and avocado leaves infusion. Phytochemsitry screening of infusion avocadoleaves consisted of flavonoid, saponin, tanine and quinone. Result of analysis showed that the level ofureum and creatinine on K2 was higher than K3 and K4 group. The increased level could be inhibited byinfusion avocado leaves. The measurement of glomerular filtration rate in treatment groups wassignificantly different (p<0.05). Descriptive histopathology observation showed that renal lesio in grouptreatment (K3 and K4) were declined. Large crystal calcium oxalate on K2 group was observed by usingpolarized microscope, whereas small crystal calcium oxalate were seen in the infusion of avocado leavesgroups. These result showed the ability of infusion of avocado leaves as an inhibitor on the growth ofcrystallization calcium oxalate

Abstract

INTRODUCTIONTumor  is  a  degenerative disease  as  the second agent cause of death in human. This disease is caused by disturbances of cell’s growth that show alteration and uncontrolled of cells proliferation. The uncontrolled of cells proliferation is also accompanied by penetration of that cells into others tissue and develop on it. Removed of tumor is usually done by operation or chemotherapy. Alternative treatment that can be used is herbal treatment. Typhonium flagelliforme known as “Keladi Tikus” in Indonesia; is known has a chemopreventive effect (2). Other researchers also show flavonoid glucoside of T. flagelliforme (1) can induce the activity of apoptosis in colon cancer cells (5). The aim of this study is to examine the in vitro anti-proliferation activity of Typhonium flagelliforme leaves ethanol extract on MCA- B1and MCM-B2 cell line.

Abstract

Recently, from many kinds of diseases one could be counted is a tumor disease. Tumor is a degenerative disease that involved many biological pathways within the host. A tumor or neoplasm can be defined as a disturbance of growth characterized by excessive, abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of transformed or altered cell(s) at  one or more primary points within the host, and frequently at  one or more metastatic sites (Priosoeryanto, 1994).The treatment of tumor is mostly by medical surgery which usually combined with chemotherapeutic agent(s), unfortunately the using of chemotherapeutic agent can develop a seriously side effect to the treated-patients. Biological substances like interferon (IFN) known as anti-virus agent is also one of promising candidate for treating or preventing of tumor disorders.Feline and canine squamous cell carcinoma is one of tumor type that often found in cat and dog, and mostly develop to a very aggressive disorder. The using of in vitro cell culture is a way to avoid the use of live animals on the study of tumors especially the study of antitumor agent due to can mimic the in vivo condition.  The aim of the present study is to examine the growth inhibition activity of natural and recombinant canine interferon in order to find the suitable biological substances for combating tumor disorder especially in the field of veterinary medicine and also as an information for the development of tumor treatment in the human medical side.

Abstract

This aim of this study was to examine the effect of Kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol) to the mice hepatocytes. Thirty male mice of 4 week aged were divided into three groups; control group was treated by aquadest, Dose 1x group was treated by 2.6 mg/g BW/day kepel powder (0.5 ml kepel suspension/day), and Dose 5x group was treated by 13 mg/g BW/day kepel powder (1.0 ml kepel suspension/day). The treatment was intragastrically for 14 days. The mice were euthanized and necropsy followed by the liver collection for histopathology assay. The histopathological examination of liver showed hydropic degeneration, cell death and extramedullary hematopoietic observed on mice hepatocytes. The ANOVA analysis showed that kepel caused increase significantly (p<0.05) of hydropic degeneration and decrease significantly (p<0.05) of cell death of mice hepatocytes.Key words: Stelechocarpus burahol, hydropic degeneration, cell death, extramedullary hematopoietic

Abstract

Studi epidemiologi penggunaan suplemen minyak ikan dan pengaruhnya terhadap kanker&nbsp; kolon masih kontroversial. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh minyak ikan dalam&nbsp; menghambat preneoplasia kolon mencit yang diinduksi azoksimetan (AOM) dan dextran sodium sulfate&nbsp; (DSS). Digunakan mencit Balb/C yang diinduksi dengan AOM 10 mg/kg BB yang dilanjutkan dengan&nbsp; pemberian minum DSS 1% selama seminggu. Pemberian minyak ikan dilakukan per oral dengan dosis&nbsp; 1,5, 3, dan 6 mg per mencit per hari. Pemeriksaan histopatologi terhadap jaringan kolon yang diwarnai&nbsp; hematoksilin-eosin dilakukan dengan menghitung jumlah fokus radang, hiperplasia, jumlah sel mitosis,&nbsp; dan skor displasia pada 10 lapang pandang. Penurunan jumlah fokus radang terjadi sejak bulan ke-2&nbsp; dimana kelompok kontrol dan dosis rendah berbeda dengan dosis sedang dan tinggi (p&lt;0,05). Sedangkan&nbsp; pada bulan ketiga dan keempat, penurunan jumlah fokus radang terjadi sejak dosis rendah, sedang dan&nbsp; tinggi (p&lt;0,01). Jumlah sel epitel kripta kolon mitosis mengalami penurunan mulai bulan kedua hingga&nbsp; keempat. Jumlah fokus sel epitel mukosa hiperplasia juga mengalami perbedaan pada bulan kedua.&nbsp; Pemberian minyak ikan juga menghambat terjadinya displasia yang terjadi sejak bulan keempat pada&nbsp; semua kelompok perlakuan, dan pada bulan ketiga pada kontrol

Abstract

This study aims to describe the estrous cycle and follicles development in female rats given infusion of fennel fruit that known to have phytoestrogen compound. Twenty five of female rats were used in this research and were divided into 5 groups. Group I was negative control group (NC), given 1 mL/100g bw of distilled water, group II was positive control group (PC), given 0.0045 mg/100g bw of ethinyl estradiol, groups III, IV and V were treatment groups (TI, T2 and T3), given fennel infusion at 36.5; 73 and 146 mg/100g bw respectively. All treatments were conducted every morning for 20 days by oral route. Changes of vaginal epithelium were observed through vaginal swabs previously stained with Giemsa stain. Histopathological examination of ovarian swere examined to reveal follicles development. Results showed that fennel fruit infusion extended the duration of estrous and metestrous phases, while shortened the proestrous and diestrous phases. Eventhough the longest estrous phase was found in T3 group, there was no significant effect on the lengthening of estrous cycle. Moreover, infusion of fennel fruit had no effect on the development of ovarian follicles, except tended to increase the number of corpus luteum.

Abstract

Kombinasi kalsium fosfat dengan alginat sebagai material implan tulang sudah mulai dikembangkan untuk penerapan klinis pada manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari biokompatibilitas bifasik kalsium fosfat dengan kombinasi alginat, dengan mengevaluasi gambaran darah dan kalsium. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga ekor domba lokal (Ovis aries) jantan, umur 1,5 tahun, dengan berat badan rata-rata 20 kg. Bahan implan ditanam pada tibia kanan domba. Sebagai kontrol, tibia kiri domba dibuat defek namun tidak ditanam implan. Evaluasi darah dan kalsium dilakukan pada hari ke-0, 7, 30, 60 dan 90 pasca implantasi. Data yang diperoleh diolah menggunakan SPSS 16 dengan uji t paired sample. Berdasarkan nilai hematologi lengkap, tidak ada parameter darah yang signifikan. Berdasarkan nilai kalsium, diperoleh nilai signifikan pada hari ke-30 dan ke-90. Konsentrasi kalsium darah dari hari ke-0 hingga ke-90 menunjukkan penurunan
