Abstract

Electronic nose (E-nose) is a device detecting odors which is designed to resemble the ability of the human nose. E-nose can identifying chemical elements that contained in the odors. E-nose is made of arrays of gas sensor, each of it could detect certain chemical element. When detects gases, each sensor will generate a specific pattern for each gas. These patterns could be classified using neural network algorithm. Neural network is a computational method based on mathematical models which has the structure and operation of neural networks which imitate the human brain. Neural network consists of a group of neurons conected to each other with a connection named weight. The weights will determine wether neural networks could compute given inputs to produce a specified output. To generate the appropriate weight, the neural network needs to be trained using a number of gasoline and alcohol samples.The training process to generate appropriate weights is done by using back propagation algorithm on a personal computer. The appropriate weight then transferred to omni-directional robot equipped with e-nose. The result shows that the robot could identify the trained gas.

Abstract

The objectives of this research is to analyze the impacts of rice policy on the food security and on producer and consumer surplus. The research used time series data. The data was a monthly time series from March 2005-September 2009. Rice policy model specification uses the simultaneous equations consisting of 15 structural equations and 11 identity equations which was estimated using Two Stages Least Squares (2SLS) method. The results show that: (1) the increase of the government purchases price of dried harvest paddy by 15 percent improve food security whereas retail rice price decrease makes producer and consumer surplus increase, and (2) the increase of the ceiling retail price of NPK fertilizer by 15 percent gave a negative impact on food security whereas retail rice price increase makes a negative effect to consumer surplus. Food security would be achieved if the government purchase on dried harvest paddy is implemented accordingly.

Abstract

The ultimate impact of economic changes, government policies and programs on consumption are determined by responses of households.  The predicted reaction of households to intervention should be a crucial factor in assessing the merits of various policy alternatives.  The results of the present work hopefully enrich our understanding of farm household rice demand behavior.  Rice consumption needs special mention, since the commodity is strategic and is highly preferred in basic diet. The study used AIDS (Almost Ideal Demand System) model to evaluate the rice demand behavior of rice farm households.  In this system approach, econometrics and judgment are employed in obtaining parameter estimates that meet the restriction which, in part, are of a theoretical nature.  Data used in this study was data at household level that has been collected through Patanas (National Farmers Panel).  The estimated results clearly showed that rice demand was price inelastic.  The estimated income elasticity gave significant results statistically.  Income elasticity for rice was also less than unity.  In general, estimated elasticities were quite plausible

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate whether rice farming in Indonesia has been efficient in utilizing production inputs. This study also analyzes whether the farmers are responsive to the changing on output and inputs prices. The rice farming is taken as a case study because up to present rice is still an important and strategic commodity in Indonesia. Rice is also a commodity that poses lots of government intervention.Data used in this study were data at household level that have been collected through Patanas (National Farmers Panel) project. Based on data analysis, it showed that efficiency of rice farming in Indonesia needs to be improved more. Farmers applied too much labor for their rice farming, especially women labor. Farmers showed a significant responsiveness to the changing of output and inputs prices. As a result, this study suggests the needs to increase the non-agriculture job opportunities in rural area, such as rural industrialization programs, in order to absorb the surplus labor forces.

Abstract

The increasing income has demanded more various and better quality of agricultural products in the market. The society with better living standard also demanded a more comfortable shopping environment. This paper aims to investigate if the food price is influenced by the product characteristics and shopping environment. The hedonic price function model was used to analyze the influence of product characteristics and shopping ennvirontment to the price.    As the sample case, rice, mungbean and peanuts have been selected. The data were collected from the retailers in Jakarta. The result showed that the product characteristics and shopping environment influenced the prices of rice, mungbean and peanuts. The implication of this study is the consumers are willing to pay higher price in order to get better quality and more comfortable shopping environment.

Abstract

Tax incentives are demanded by both tax payers and government to facilitate the business climate in the right way.  From the government point of view, tax incentives are government’s sacrifice to promote investments in the certain industry or locations; on the other hand, from taxpayer’s point of view, it is an opportunity to develop their business as more funds are available from less tax liabilities. Government should be careful to give tax incentives since target tax revenue has become larger and larger.  On the other hand, taxpayers are skeptic with the tax incentives whether there are any benefits for their business.      The answer to the skepticism depends on taxpayer’s satisfaction on the tax incentives received.  Based on the result of this research to the agribusiness foreign investor’s samples, the degree of satisfaction from the tax incentives is varied.   It depends on the type of tax incentive, business characteristic of tax payer and the countries of investors. In micro economics theory, satisfaction to a firm’s product usually leads to the loyalty to the product itself and furthermore leads to sales increasing.  In line with the economic theory, tax payer’s satisfaction to a tax incentive will lead to the tax compliance and in a democratic country, the voluntary tax complience is the best foundation to increase tax collectibility..  This research noted that there are correlation between tax satisfaction to a tax incentive and taxpayer’s compliance. Keywords: Tax incentives, investment,  tax satisfaction,  voluntary tax complience

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify internal and external factors that influence CDP business development, formulate business development strategies, and design CDP strategic architecture. Cikarang Dry Port (CDP) is a land port designed to support export and import activities and supply chains in the Jabodetabek and Cikarang regions. The precise business development strategy to optimize resources and opportunities for the CDP business environment is important to develop. The method of this research is descriptive analysis and purposive sampling. The analytical tools used include internal and external analysis and SWOT. The results show that the IFE and EFE values obtained are 3.03 and 3.07. Its main strength is the availability of land port’s capacity with a score of 0.56. The external factors that provide significance relative to the success of dry port development are internet usage and applications on smartphones that scored 0.32. The regulation on expansion and business development of the Kalibaru Port (Newport Priok Container Terminal) is the biggest threat of 0.06 and 0.04.

Abstract

Many robots have been made by experts mimic the shape of the anatomy of living creatures. One of the many popular robots are legged robots. Utilization of legged robots in industry is able to pass through the places that are not possible using a wheeled robot, for example excess legged robot is up and down the stairs. To support the development and use of more advanced control systems, the authors proposed the creation Robot Quadropod Obstacle Detector Using Fuzzy Logic. Fuzzy logic is used to regulate the movement of four-foot robot with the help of two servo motors in each leg as well as data input in the form of obstacle distance detected by the ultrasound sensor. With the movement of the foot 2 DOF (Degree Of Freedom) system, the robot can run well and be able to control the speed of the robot foot steps in accordance with the detected obstacle distance from the use of fuzzy logic while using only one ultrasound sensor.

Abstract

During this time, used of accelerometer sensor is very helpful in human life, generally in automotive needed.Use of this sensor as a detector for airbag in car is worthy to be removed or not in cars accident event. The other used of this sensor is to see the movement of aircraft from its starting point. The conclution of the used of accelerometer sensor in automotive field wal limited to making a decision and see the movement of object. In mobile phone technology, this sensor is able to used as an interaction between user and applications. Generally for game application. There are several games that used this sensor to perform some actions. It can also be seen that the utilization in mobile phone technology was limited to the interaction of an application. From both limitation, the authors attempt to use the sensor in other field with other uses. This time, the sensor is used to control a mobile robot from the axis change that are detected by sensor on mobile phone. Users are expected to get more experience in utilization of this sensor, the user can control the mobile robot as playing games in mobile phone. This application are meneged to control the mobile robot based on the axis change that occur in mobile phone. Beside that, this application also managed to show images that captured from mobile robot so the user can control the mobile robot although the robot can´t be seen. There is a problem that the mobile phone has a long respon to show an image on the display and it disturb the user.
