Abstract

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) HSN1 virus is a known pathogen in birds. Recently, the virus has been reported to cause sporadic fatal disease in tigers, leopards, and other exotic felids as well as domestic cats in Thailand. The present study was carried out to investigate the presence of AI HSN1 virus infection in stray catsroaming around residential, traditional and chicken farms in Bogor, West Java. Ninety serum samples were tested using HI test to screened for the presence of antibody to AI HSN1. Virus isolation was done in SPF embrionated chicken eggs and identify using HI, AGP and RT -PCR.

Abstract

Avian Influenza (AI) or bird flu caused by virus H5N1 is still present in Indonesia. The Department ofAgriculture of Indonesia has banned poultry distribution from endemic to non endemic area, except fordistribution of day old chick (DOC). The aim of this research was to detect AI virus infection in DOCdistributed from AI endemic to AI non endemic areas. Two hundred and forty DOCs from farms in WestJava and Banten were collected from Soekarno Hatta airport. Their antibody titers were examined againstAI virus by Haemaglutination Inhibition (HI) test. The AI virus detected in tissues (trachea, lung, heart,kidney, liver, and intestine) by immunohistochemistry technique. Detection of AI virus using anti AI H5N1monoclonal antibody was conducted AEC as chromogen. The result showed that 66,2% of DOC were positiveAI and 33,8% were negative AI. The 66,2% of positive samples, 43,3% showing the presence of AI antigenin trachea, lung and intestine, and 22,9% were presence in liver and kidney. DOCs were infected AI viruswith subclinical symptoms and they were potential as the source of rapid AI spread in Indonesia. It istherefore important to take a very cautious measure to prevent the spread of AI via DOC from AI endemicto free area.

Abstract

The hepatoprotector activity of pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack.) roots was evaluated in carbontetrachloride (CCl4)-induced rats. Each rat was administered 500 mg/kg body weight of metanol extractand its derivates (n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol-water) for 7 consecutive days. Thepositive control group received 25 mg silymarin/kg body weight daily for 7 consecutive days. Hepatoprotectoractivity was assessed by measuring serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase(AST). Futhermore, hepatic tissues were subjected to histopathological studies. The results and AST(272.33±85.63 U/L) compared to methanol extract (380.61±324.88 U/L and 475.27±412.31 U/L), n-hexanefraction (279.80±304.92 U/L and 488.53±426.81 U/L), chloroform fraction (418.30±294.80 U/L and427.70±273.08 U/L), and ethyl acetate fraction (312.80±443.30 U/L and 418.40±370.52 U/L), but thisresult was not as good as silymarin (ALT 105.09±21.62 U/L and AST 310.25±2.45 U/L). Moreover, thehistopathological studies of methanol-water fraction was also not as good as silymarin . It was concludedthat methanol-water fraction of pasak bumi roots has a hepatoprotector potensial.

Abstract

Vaccination is one of control strategies implemented in endemic countries such as Egypt and Indonesia [1,2]. Most commercial AI vaccines available in Indonesia are adjuvanted inactivated AI vaccines applied through intramuscular routes. Vaccine application by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection can cause pain and stress in poultry, the route of vaccine through the nasal drip (intranasal) is a more convenient and painless.                However, respiratory applied inactivated influenza is poorly immunogenic. Therefore prior to developing inactivated intranasal vaccine, it is necessary to study  antibody response to inactivated AI virus which exposed through intranasal route. The aim of our research was to determined antibody response of ducks and chickens against avian influenza virus (AIV) subtype H5N1 after intranasally immunization.

Abstract

Enam puluh ekor itik yang berumur lima minggu dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini. ltik dibagi secara acak menjadi dua kelompok yaitu kelompok infeksi dan kontrol.Kelompok pertama diinfeksi dengan Pasteurelhz multocida (Isolat lapangan) secara intramuskular. Itik diambil darahnya dan dinekropsi 1, 2, 4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi untuk pemeriksaan diferensial lekosit dan perubahan makroskopik.Itik yang diinfeksi mulai menunjukkan lesio empat jam setelah infeksi. Itik yang diinfeksi dan mati menunjukkan gejala septikemi dengan hiperemi umum. Pemeriksaan gambaran lekosit menunjukkan peningkatan jumlah heterofil dan penurunan jumlah limfosit dan monosit 2,4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi.

Abstract

Pengamatan terhadap 43 kasus Gumboro di Laboratorium Patologi Unggas FKH IPB pada tahun 1991 menunjukkan bahwa penyakit Gumboro dapat terjadi pada ayam pedaging maupun ayam petelur dengan kisaran umur 7-60 hari. Kehadiran Gumboro daapt menyebabkan penurunan fungsi tanggap kebal sehingga ayam lebih peka terhadap infeksi penyakit lain. Hasil kajian yang diperoleh adalah: Gumboro dapat berdiri sendiri (30.23%) atau disertai penyakit lain; seperti  ND (30.23%), CRD (9.30%), Coccidiosis (6.98%), Colibacillosis (4.67%), ND dan CRD (13.95%), ND dan Coccidiosis (2.32%), CRD dan Coccidiosis (2.32%).

Abstract

Infeksi E. coli pada anak ayam pedaging secara mandiri dapat menimbulkan penurunan jumlah sel limfosit (24.657%). radang interstisial (15.330%), hiperemi (24.811%). serta penurunan berat relatif bursa Fabricius (0.152 gram persen). Vaksinasi ND La Sota (tetes mata). dilanjutkan dengan infeksi E. coli menyebabkan penurunan jumlah sel limfosit (7.314%), edema radang (3.826%). hiperemi (9.569%) dan penurunan berat relatif bursa (0.150 gram persen). Pemberian vaksin ND La Sota (tetes mata) menyebabkan perubahan yang minimal pada bursa Fabricius berupa penurunan jumlah sel limfosit (2.03 1 %), edema (2.348%). hiperemi (2.03 1 %).

Abstract

Diagnosis terhadap suatu penyakit tertentu sudah merupakan kegiatan rutin yang dilakukan di dalam dunia kedokteran. Hal tersebut tidaklah mudah, karena banyak dari gejala-gejala penyakit yang ada merujuk pada beberapa penyakit tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan diagnosis tahap awal pada anjing yang dilakukan oleh dokter dengan diagnosis yang dihasilkan dari klasifikasi menggunakan voting feature intervals, dan untuk mengetahui tingkat akurasi yang dicapai oleh algoritma klasifikasi voting feature intervals (VFI5). Terdapat 2 proses dalam penelitian yaitu proses pelatihan dan pengujian algoritma. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat gejala-gejala yang konsisten menjadi ciri khas kelas parvo saja atau kelas distemper saja pada setiap iterasi. Untuk kelas parvo terdapat 14 gejala yang menjadi ciri khas, sedangkan untuk kelas distemper terdapat 11 gejala yang menjadi ciri khas. Hasil pengujian juga menunjukkan terdapat 3 instance yang kelas prediksinya berdasarkan hasil klasifikasi menggunakan algoritma VFI5 tidak sesuai dengan kelas sebenarnya pada data. Hal tersebut terjadi karena ketiga instance memiliki ciri khas gejala kelas prediksi.

Abstract

The Ito cell (fat-storing cell) is a cell lying in perisinusoidal space of liver. The function of Ito cell is expanding from a site of fat-storing site to a center of extracellular matrix metabolism and mediator production in the liver. This study was performed in order to evaluate the Ito cells in cholestatic condition. The artificial cholestatic was conducted by ligation of extrahepatic bile ducts (bile duct ligation = BDL) in broilers. The results showed that BDL induced bile congestion, fibrosis, proliferation of Ito cells and intrahepatic bile ductules. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated that Ito cells were scattered throughout the fibrotic areas, and larger in size with more extensive immunoreactivity than those in normal livers. Ultrastructural study demonstrated that Ito cells were closely associated with the production of extracellular collagen fibers. Ito cells actively react against hepatocytic injuries, especially in fibrogenesis of cholestatic livers.   Key words: Bile duct, ito cell, broiler

Abstract

Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, a species of bacteria that is distributed globally. Ruminant especially sheep and goats may play an important role in the transmission of the disease to human. The research of seroprevalence of Q fever in sheep and goats was carried out from August 2006 to March 2007 in West Java area. A total of 138 sera were collected; 69 sera from sheep and 69 sera from goats. The indirect immunoflourescent antibody test was used to determine the seroprevalence of Q fever. The seropositive based on the dilution of serum starting from 1 : 16. Seropositive were observed in 22 samples (31.88%) of sheep and 14 samples (20.28%) of goats. The highest titer of 1 : 128 was observed in 3 pregnant sheep. The results of the present study suggested that Q fever was endemic in West Java area.
