Abstract

Abstract

The influence of Cu, Mn or Ti ion substitution on the microwave absorbance properties of Barium M-Hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) has been investigated. The sample preparation was held by mixing the raw material of Copper oxide (CuO), Manganese oxide (MnO) or Titanium dioxide (TiO2) with a different composition into BaFe12O19 powder through ball milling process, then sintered at 1100oC for 2 h. The substitution composition for each metal ion (Cu, Mn or Ti) into BaFe12O19 powder was 0.1 and 0.5 % mol. The Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) measurement was used to determine the reflection loss and absorption properties of BaFe12O19 samples within frequency ranging from 410 GHz. The minimum reflection loss 20.3 dB at 4 GHz was achieved, which is related to the 0.1% mol of Ti substitution on BaFe12O19 sample. The reflection loss values could be modified by controlling the metal ions composition which consequently improves the microwave absorption properties. The complex permittivity and permeability were calculated using Nicholson-Ross Weir (NRW) method. The peak of real and imaginary parts of permittivity was consistently appeared at 5.05, 5.92, 6.76, and 7.75 GHz for all metal ions (Cu, Mn and Ti). Furthermore, the complex permeability was found to be independent from frequency and the ion substitution did not significantly influence hexagonal structure and particle size distribution of Barium hexaferrite.

Abstract

Barium Hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) magnet has been made by adding Al2O3 using metallurgical powder method.Al2O3 with different composition such as 0, 40, 50 and 60 (% weight) was added to Barium Hexaferrite (BaFe12O19),and then sintered at temperatures of 900, 950, 1,000, 1,050, and 1,1000C and each sintering was hold for two hours. From the experiment it is found that some of Al2O3 reacts with BaFe12O19 and results in one new phase of FeAl2O3.Meanwhile, the morphology of the sample is found relatively homogeneous with the rod type particle size whichis less than 1 ?m. The best sample was obtained at 1,1000C sintering temperature, which gives the value of bulkdensity 4.34 g/cm3, porosity 21.98%, and flux density 72.95 Gauss.

Abstract

Magnetic properties of nanocrystalline Fe50Al50 alloys prepared by mechanical alloying technique (using commercial Fe and Al powders as precursors) were studied in detail as a functions of the milling time ranging from 1 to 24 hrs. The structural analyses based on X-ray diffraction (XRD) and extended X-ray absorption fi ne structure spectroscopy (EXAFS) revealed that the alloying process took place after 12 hrs of milling time. Concerning themagnetic behavior, the data that were obtained from a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) showed that both the magnetic saturation (Ms) and the coercivity (Hc) depend strongly on the milling time. From the results that we obtain, we found out that by adjusting the milling time, is a key factor in obtaining an appropriate structural transformation and appropriate magnetization values.

Abstract

Preparation and characterization of soft magnetic BaFe12O19?SiO2 has been successfully carried out by mixing BaFe12O19 powder with SiO2 powder. The ratios of Ba Fe12O19/SiO2 used were 100:0, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, and 50:50 by percent weight. Mixing process was carried out with a dry milling method using planetary ball mill (PBM) for 48 hours. The mixed powder then was pressed at 35 kgf/cm2 on anisotrophy condition to produce pellets with a diameter of 12 mm and 3?5 mm thicknesses. The pellets then were sintered at temperatures of 600, 650, 700, 750, and 800C, each of which was held for 2 hours. The XRD measurement showed that there were three phases appearing, i.e. BaFe12O19 as the majority, and SiO2 and Fe3O4 as minorities. Meanwhile, the result from SEM measurement showed that the grain size was less than 1 ?m. The best magnetic properties were obtained for the composition of 80 wt% BaFe12O19 and 20 wt% SiO2 with sintering temperature at 800C, where the coercivity value (Hc), remanence (Br) and maximum energy product (BHmax) were 1.656 kOe, 0.81 kG, and 0.414 MGOe, respectively.

Abstract

Axial flux generator that consists of two rotors and one stator has been engineered. The rotor consists of eightimported NdFeB permanent magnets with 6 x 4 x 0.7 cm dimension and remanant (Br) 1.1 Tesla. The stator with 300 mm diameter consists of a spoils with 80 mm diameter with 400 coils, and the diameter of copper wire is 0.5mm, while the number of the spoil is varied. In this paper, the design and analysis for generator model has been done using 3DS MAX 2014 and Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express software, so that the right number of spoils in producing the optimal out put voltage (Erms) is obtained. From the experiment and simulation of axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator, it has been obtained that there is correlation between the rotational speed (Vr in rpm) and the frequency and the voltage (Erms), which are given by equations i.e. frequency = 0.0667 Vr - 0.0001 and Erms = 0.4027 Vr + 3.2619, repectively. Meanwhile, the relation of the rotational speed and the number of spoils (Ns) to the outout voltage (Erms) is given by Erms = 0.0695 Ns Vr.

Abstract

Local structural and magnetic characterization of (Ni0.5Al0.5)100-xCx (x = 0, 10, 30, and 50 at. %) nanocrystalline alloys which were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) technique at 12 hrs milling time, have been carried out in detail. The nanocrystalline size and shape were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of carbon on structural properties has been investigated using x-ray diffractometer (XRD) and extended x-ray absorption fi ne structure spectroscopy (EXAFS), whereas magnetic properties was examined by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). All the samples revealed nanocrystalline alloys. The maximum magnetic saturation (Ms) at about 0.7 emu/g and the minimum coercivity (Hc) at about 135 Oe would be found for 10% carbon content.
